1341  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden Administration Wants To Make It Easier To Seize Crypto on: November 03, 2022, 07:48:24 PM
Quote
Due to crypto’s pseudonymous nature, it’s sometimes assumed to be immune from government confiscation. But the reality is quite different. Last year, the U.S. Marshals—the custodians for Justice Department seizures—managed almost 200 cryptocurrency seizures worth $466 million.

This doesn't actually prove that cryptocurrency can be confiscated. Usually people trade their crypto for smaller sentences or simply give it away in hope of getting a smaller sentence, like Ross did and got screwed by the justice system.

We shouldn't put someone in debt, or charged with avoiding taxes in the same basket with gangsters. Normal people can easily hide their bitcoins and never be forced to give them away, but just as it is with gold and other valuables, the weak point is you. There were robberies (one in Russia from what I remember) where the robbers tortured their victim to get cryptocurrencies. The government can do the same and then all anonymity and security that bitcoin provides won't matter.
1342  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you have anyone you trust? on: November 03, 2022, 07:20:15 PM
I am a fan of police tales, especially crimes that happen on the ground. Each time, I became more sure that human psychology is very complex and cannot be classified under any method, and that reality is always much stronger than imagination and fictions.

The examples mentioned by the author of the topic may represent the most extreme cases, but there are much worse cases, especially cases of free killing by serial killers and sociopaths.

The idea may sound terrifying. But we should not really trust anyone completely.

Same here, I love to watch detective movies with suspense and listen to real life stories about murderers who got caught.
It's always shocking when a parent kills a child or a child kills a parent. There bond there should be above everything else. I'd never hurt my child, I'd rather take the hit myself. People who murder their own children must have lost basic instincts that are coded into our DNA.

To answer the OP's question, I trust my wife because we've been together at times when we both had nothing and we've managed to support each other. I hope when my daughter grows up I'll be able to trust her too.
1343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Japanese gambling - tabsai game on: November 03, 2022, 07:06:37 PM
Based on OP's pot this is a dice game we love playing dice so why not, we'll wait for your site to launch Google did not provide information about this tabsai game and neither is Youtube, and this is what makes this interesting we are all curious on this Japanese game if the Japanese people like it why not us, so many things coming from Japan are universal.

It's normal game just with 3 dice. In a real casino it would make a huge difference because instead of you throwing them, it's thrown by the host. In traditional dice you throw 2, but everything is in the player's hands, not the host's. In online dice where the game "rolls" for you, it doesn't really matter if it's 1 number or 3, just a visual difference because I bet the chance of winning is the same as with a single number.

The idea is good if it's going to apply to Japanese gamblers. Last time I checked their government was very strict on gambling. For instance, you cannot cash your winnings in the same place where you play. You have to go to another office in another part of town, because according to the government if there's no money exchange in the building it's not a casino. Roll Eyes
1344  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which has better odds, lottery, online gambling, or sports betting? on: November 02, 2022, 11:19:43 PM
Like others said the chances of taking some money home are the highest in sports betting and the lowest in lotteries, although most casino games, like dice offer variable odds, which can make the game similar to how odds at sports are calculated. The lottery is the only one where you have a very low chance of winning a lot and these odds are so low that some mathematicians have come to a conclusion that the probability of getting hit by lightning is higher than winning the lottery.
1345  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would this Lead to the Mass Adoption of Bitcoin? on: November 02, 2022, 10:59:03 PM
If you haven't seen it, there's a followup:

It looks like Musk agreed to this deal.

IMO it won't be a big thing for the price but it's going to make more people aware of bitcoin. You bitcoiners might not believe it but there's still many people out there who use the Internet but know nothing about it.
1346  Economy / Gambling / Re: I won 1500 dollars on a ufc fight + quit gambling on: November 02, 2022, 10:51:51 PM
I'd congratulate you if you weren't such a weirdo. You were supposed to quit, then didn't and when asked about it you avoid a straight answer and say that "you don't need attention" what does that even mean? You're making threads showing off your gambling wins, you obviously need attention. You get what you wish for, OP.
Take my advice and quit for a while because I can see that you're in too deep.
1347  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bull or bear November? on: November 01, 2022, 04:00:17 PM
Still a bear market, but does it really matter? For most people it really doesn't change anything whether we're at 19k or 25k. We all had a chance to sell at 25 and above multiple times this year. Those who didn't take that chance felt like the price is too low and for these people current struggle below 25k doesn't mean much.

I'm like that. The last price when I sold bitcoin was 47k in April and I won't touch my coins until we get back to those levels. I'm ready to wait another year until this bear market ends, but keep in mind that we've been here already for 12 months. Worst case scenario we have a few months before the trend reverses.
1348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How PoS becomes more centralized? on: November 01, 2022, 09:28:39 AM
PoS is extremely limiting. PoS proponents claimed that not everyone can mine because you need a place to keep your miners at, while staking can be done without as much as a PC. All you need is a phone and doesn't require power. This accessibility and lack of power bills were the main arguments for PoS, but that's not everything. The reality is a bit different.

PoS requires a very large amount of money to start staking, much larger than you'd need to mine a PoW coin, even bitcoin.
A top level bitcoin miner S19XP costs $7k. To stake ETH you need 32x$1600 = $51k That's 7x more!
This makes ETH staking concentrated around 2 big pools Lido and Coinbase that have almost 50% of all staked ETH. Also, nothing stops these pools from striking a deal and merging into one, just as companies get bought, one of them can buy out the other.

As you can see it's much more difficult to start staking ETH than mining it and miners did not stop when ETH switched to PoS, but moved to other coins, while control over the network was given to the whales.
1349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it really possible to quit on these reasons on: October 31, 2022, 06:36:01 PM
I'm not really an obeying type so the last point would have the least influence over my decision but I think that it's possible to quit for all of the given reasons.

I feel like it's the hardest to quit after winning a big sum of money because such events build up your confidence. You start thinking that you're good at the game or lucky and want to keep going especially when you have free money to keep betting. It's much easier to quit when you're broke.
1350  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin - How high can it go? on: October 31, 2022, 03:43:52 PM
It's funny that a few weeks back people were asking how low can we get and now they're asking exactly the opposite. Nobody knows the answer!

There are a few things that work as universal truths in bitcoin and other investments as well:
-the majority is usually wrong. If people keep telling you that it's going down, it's usually going up.
-people who give you specific price targets simply make a bet and hope they'll be the ones with the best prediction. If that happens they'll sell you their trading courses or other useless shit.
-market swings every few years. In a 10 year period you can be sure that if you invest in a company stock, bitcoin, real estate, whatever, you will make money, because as long as an asset exists it will appreciate in fiat price, simply because fiat depreciates over time. This means that even a boring company that doesn't expand will gain value. The worst thing you can do long term is own fiat.

I'm 100% sure of two things:
1. By the end of 2023 Bitcoin will be worth more than it is today.
2. It will break its ATH of 68k by 2025.

Probably only a nuclear war or some kind of global disaster could stop this from happening. You do what you like with this information Wink
1351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are five things you will do if you win huge amount of money?? on: October 31, 2022, 03:14:59 PM
What are the major five things you will do if win huge amount money?. Is it to buy are car or start a business?        Let's discuss about it together.

$10000 is huge to me and from that, I will be able to start a business grocery business it needs a big capital, to build a house, buy a motorcycle and buy more Bitcoin and save what is left so from all these things I need not worry I can go on playing without thinking about the money that I gonna spend and lose, as my needs are covered by the business I'm setting up.

This is the thing, each of us has a different understanding of the term "huge number". I wouldn't call 10k huge. It's a decent money if you want to buy groceries but not enough to buy a decent used car, not to mention a new one. I wouldn't say no to 10k but It wouldn't take my breath away either.

If I had 10k, I'd just waste it on things that I need on daily basis. If I had a huge amount like 100k or more, I'd do some investing and buy more bitcoin.
1352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your thoughts when all Bitcoins are mined? on: October 30, 2022, 11:02:10 PM
Since it's estimated that we'll mine all bitcoins in 2140 I won't be around to have any thoughts on the matter Roll Eyes

Even if they're wrong and somehow it's all mined 50 years earlier, I'll still be dead, so I won't care anymore.
What about 100 years earlier? I'll be either very rich by that time or very poor and depressed, hopefully raising my grandchildren. Bitcoin is either going to be dead or a world reserve currency by the time it's mined out so it's go big or go home.
1353  Other / Politics & Society / Re: AN END TO ELON'S GENEROSITY on: October 28, 2022, 06:41:37 PM
I thought he promised to fund the project till the war ends. Maybe he didn't believe that the war would be a very long one. Or he might not be pleased with Ukraine's response to his proposed peace deal.

Anyway, he has been very generous to the people of Ukraine and should be commended. But capitalism is mainly for profit making and capitalists don't give gifts. They give with the left hand and collect with the right one in hundred folds. Elon Musk is using the way to publicize his satellite project and also using the opportunity to build public acceptance by disguising himself as a philanthropist.

With rich people it's all about PR. He was asked to provide Starlink and he did. I'm sure he discussed it with a few advisors beforehand.
He gave the units for free (PR) but expected the US government to pay the bills.

In a new development, Russians warned that they're planning to start shooting down Musk's satellites and other ones used to spy on Russian troops. The US of course warned them back.
I don't think they'll dare to do it. Much rather think of a way to hack them or damage them indirectly and blame it on accidents.
1354  Economy / Gambling / Re: trustdice - scam, very bad site. on: October 28, 2022, 05:53:25 PM
2 days later no answer from OP? What happened mate? Taking your time gathering counter evidence or what? Cheesy

When I see a scam accusation I'm usually on the side of the client even before all proof is shown. I want to be on the side of the victim and they usually play their roles well, but you've got to be a special kind to be scam a business and when caught accuse them of scamming you.
1355  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's up with ranking on: October 28, 2022, 05:30:32 PM
Perhaps as a loose rule of thumb- folks tend to take advise from higher ranked members more to heart than those of lower ranks.  However, this should be taken with a grain of salt as some accounts have been bought, sold, and traded.

Perhaps as a rule of thumb people wait until there's a large number of answers to their question and sleep on it before deciding Wink

The beauty of a forum is anybody can chop in, a smart guy and an idiot.
How do you know a legendary member isn't an idiot?
He could've bought this account, could've hacked it.
Before the merit system was added you could've written only in off-topic and advanced in ranks.
Don't judge the book by its cover, at least wait for some reviews.
1356  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If you win big in casino, would it be publicized? on: October 28, 2022, 04:52:22 PM
You have the right to privacy, so I don't think that this should be publicized.

Now, let's say they do it, the only thing they can make public is your nickname because your KYC documents are private and should be used only to verify your identity, not revealed to allow random people to connect it with your user name.
A physical casino will also never reveal your name because they usually don't know it. Imagine that you win and they tell you: hold on, first show us your ID or we won't let you out. That would be ridiculous.
1357  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices in Germany - Tell me what you want to know on: October 27, 2022, 10:41:24 PM
Petrol and Diesel prices in Germany as of yesterday:

Is there any product in the German supermarkets you want to know the price of? Or any other thing? Because some people here think that Germany is fucked and there is no way to escape and we are all gonna freeze to death, so the situation isn't like that and quality of life here is still high Smiley

If you live close to the Polish border you can get your gas from your neighbor. They have it much cheaper so it might be worth a trip. They have it for 1.4 EUR and the current average in Germany is 1.9 EUR.

The problem with gas is that the prices were growing fast even before the war and due to virus lockdowns in 2021 that lowered the demand the prices should've went down but they didn't.
The oil market is greatly manipulated. On one hand you have the Saudis that want to make the most money even if it means starving some countries and on the other the green lobby that wants the world to drive their expensive electric cars.
1358  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people withdraw their generosity during crisis? on: October 27, 2022, 09:50:45 PM
I feel like the crisis is not as bad as they want us to think. The media aim at scaring people and making them go into survival mode, afraid to spend money.

Don't expect generosity from people who watch the news every day to hear that their mortgage rates went up, gasoline costs more, Russians are threatening to blow up a nuclear power plant, or a dam to cause ecological disasters, and the winter is coming.
Personally, I've been spending more time at home because all the prices went up so much that I don't feel like eating out or hitting a bar. Generosity depends on your state of mind. Someone who is depressed is less likely to be generous and have enough strength to cheer others up.
1359  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If you win so big on: October 27, 2022, 09:30:45 PM
It's very hard to speculate about something like this. As you can see many people in this thread say they'd stop gambling and be responsible but most of them faced with that kind of money would keep playing, believing in their luck. It's the same state of mind that makes traders stay overstay their welcome in a winning trade because the feeling of winning is so good we want it to last longer.

I don't know what I'd do. Probably try to stop and control my greed but who knows. I'm holding bitcoins that lost 70% from their ATH so I'm not a quitting type.
1360  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear market likely over? on: October 27, 2022, 09:11:04 PM
I don't think that it's over but there's a rule you should all be aware of. The markets work in such a way that the vast majority always loses. Some traders call this a crowded position. When positions are crowded they present an opportunity to be squeezed and a squeeze makes more money in liquidations for those who can afford to make that squeeze and believe me there are people with a lot of money running the market and making those squeezes.

So, if the market keeps proving to be profitable to shorters, more shorters keep taking these positions up to the point when they get squeezed and the market turns around. We've been profitable for bears for a year now and it's not going to last much longer. The bear market is probably not over yet but we're closer to its end than beginning.
