1381  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: April 18, 2021, 12:25:10 PM
It’s efficient for transferring large values but not at all suitable for small transactions, which is why it isn’t suitable as a currency. Cross border transactions are are good use for speed and cost, but that doesn’t make it a good currency.

Have to agree. A few days back, when the transaction fee was low I made a series of transactions with fee of 11-21 Sat/Byte. As per the current exchange rates, it cost me less than $1. I don't think that you can go much lower than this. If you keep your fee below 10 Sat/Byte, then there is a good chance that the transaction may never get confirmed. So the minimum you need to spend is $0.50-$1.00. That makes Bitcoin unsuitable for smaller transactions (i.e <$20).
1382  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: April 18, 2021, 12:13:42 PM
Even worse, vaccine manufacturers like Pfizer and Moderna are already planning a third dose. At this pace, COVID-19 will take a lot longer to disappear from the face of the Earth. For the economy to recover full speed ahead, we need to reach herd immunity as soon as possible. Otherwise, things will never be normal again. Governments and companies should stop thinking about the economy and focus on doing what's best to put an end to the pandemic once and for all. As long as greed prevails, don't expect this to be over anytime soon. Who knows how the world's economy will look like post-pandemic?

Nonetheless, every pandemic brings revolution to our society. One would imagine that physical interaction will be a thing of the past in a post-COVID world. People will work, take classes, and even manage their finances all within the comfort of their home. The new economy will be completely digital, as fear of getting re-infected will dominate people's minds. It's something that was never previously imagined, but it's now being realized as the pandemic takes the world by storm. Let's hope all goes well in the long run with cooperative efforts from both governments and citizens alike. Just my opinion Smiley

Herd immunity is possible. It is possible to manufacture up to 15 billion doses of the vaccine per year, but the issue lies with all the regulations and the slow approval process. The EMA in European Union has refused to approve the Sputnik V vaccine, because it is manufactured and patented in Russia. This is what happens when the governments dictate everything and refuses their population to have a proper choice. The EU is facing a surge in new cases and deaths, and yet they have refused to approve non-Western vaccines.

I think BCCI-ICC should smoke pot together and then allow Mumbai Indian franchise to participate in the T-20 WC.  Wonder if they could beat everyone and become world champion too lol, well there is a good chance.  Cool

Guess Williamson is not match fit atm.

In football they have global franchise-level tournaments such as UEFA champions league, Europa Cup and the AFC champions league. The ICC tried with a similar tournament almost a decade ago, but it was a big failure. Back then, the franchises didn't had that much of fanbase. But such a tournament may become a success now, as the circumstances have changed drastically. International cricket is a joke now, with too many lopsided contests. There is a huge gap between the top 4 teams and the remaining 8 test playing nations.
1384  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: April 16, 2021, 04:54:30 AM
That's the point, lockdown was imposed in order to prepare for the next wave of the pandemic, however, this didn't really happen in Greece. Summer passed without taking and precautions to face the next wave that we'd have to come across during winter. On the meantime, emergency funding was given to the church, TV channels and other corporations such as Aegean Airlines.

LOL.. I can understand emergency funding being given to airlines (the aviation sector is in pretty bad shape right now). I don't think that providing funding to TV channels is necessary, but even that is OK to an extent. But what is the point in providing funding to churches at this point, when a lot of people are out of work? That money could have been used for providing food and essential items to those who need them. Religion was created to help the humans, and not to create additional burden for them.

The only problem with this argument is that Dinesh karthik have a much bigger problem with Murali Vijay who eloped with his wife and i do not know whether he played any role in his career and i do not think Dinesh Karthik will have a much bigger problem with anyone else than Murali Vijay.

The media has constantly targeted Murali Vijay and his wife (Nikita) over this. But from what I heard, the real story is much different. Dinesh Karthik was born in to an orthodox Tamil Brahmin family and he was forced to marry the daughter of his father's friend as soon as he turned 21 (in 2007). It was an arranged marriage and Karthik felt no attraction towards Nikita and they never had any physical relationship. His affair with Dipika Pallikal started in 2011, and around the same time Murali Vijay started having an affair with Nikita. But his parents were against divorcing Nikita, and also issues were created when Dipika's parent's asked Karthik to convert. However when it was revealed that Nikita was pregnant with Vijay's child, they finally allowed to divorce.
1386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CFNP] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: April 15, 2021, 01:34:37 PM
They lost their first 2 games on similar fashion because of batting so they should fix this one, they need stability on middle order. Bowling seems okay so they could compromise with 1 foreign allrounder. Pick 3 pure foreign batsmen (Warner, Bairstow and Williamson) + 1 bowler (Rashid).

And may be pick Sidhart kaul if they think their bowling is weak because of 1 less bowling allrounder and let Shankar sit out for few game, he's failing on both department batting and bowling.

I am OK with the suggested changes, but it looks as if David Warner and the rest of the SRH management don't want to drop Jason Holder. And I can't blame them because he has bowled really well during the depth overs. And although he wasn't much impressive with the bat, he can be quite handy in crucial circumstances. BTW, what about replacing Williamson with Bairstow? I would say that the former is a much more useful batsmen when compared to Bairstow.
1387  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase has started trading in NASDAQ minutes ago on: April 15, 2021, 12:20:50 PM
exactly, warren buffet ain't elon musk of investment. there's far better insightful investors out there why always limit ourselves to warren buffet lol. doesnt make sense.

Warren Buffet had astounding success in stock investment. But that was three decades back. His tactics no longer work under changed circumstances. His hatred towards Bitcoin stems from the fact that it became insanely successful despite him trying to deride it. He just can't come to terms and admit that he made a mistake with cryptocurrency. I don't have a problem with Buffet as such. Everyone is free to have their own opinion about cryptocurrency. But I do have a problem with some of the Bitcoiners, who try to give more importance to Buffet than he deserves.
1388  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 15, 2021, 11:59:52 AM
Bowling is a department that they need to improve, they cannot be compared with the 1992 team in regards to the bowling in any way shape or form but the batting has improved and they have a mix of youth and talent just like the 92 team but they need to drastically improve their bowling department.

Well.. comparison with the team of 1992 may be premature, but I would insist that their pace bowling lineup is very impressive. Pacers such as Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali have the experience and Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah have the raw pace. On helpful surfaces, they can completely destroy the opposition batting lineup. I would still say that it is the spin bowling department which needs immediate improvement.
1389  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: April 15, 2021, 11:28:59 AM
@Royse777 if possible then add "Pool Participants Only" in subject.
Just did. Thanks for this suggestion which never came in my mind LOL

So, two other guys just left me behind, and they are leading the pool. Yesterday the match was moving very fast. When Patel bowled the no ball, SRH were pretty sure that they had the match. But Patel held his nerves. A slow short ball, Rashid is not a specialist batsman, so he swung his bat, but it was too early ball just left him and in the keepers hand. The free hit was a wast and then in the next ball Rashid gone. 8 from 2 balls and no recognize batsman in the pitch.

Another close match, worth watching. It's good for me that I am not gambling in this season.

During the last over, SRH needed a total of 16 runs to win, and at this point Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at strike with Rashid Khan at the other end. Bhuvneshwar took a single to give the strike to Rashid. So the equation was 15 from 5. The next ball went for two runs. The equation again changed to 13 from 4. Now the turning point came. Harshal Patel bowled the no-ball, which was hit for a boundary by Rashid. At this point, SRH needed 8 runs from 4 balls, which I thought was perfectly achievable.
1390  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria will overtake India in P2P on: April 15, 2021, 10:16:27 AM
Nigeria has a very high volume of individuals trading bitcoin and the population keeps growing, the central bank of Nigeria made a very wrong decision banning crypto transactions via bank accounts, but so bad for them thier plan failed because they couldn't even stop the Nigerian citizens from making transactions, instead it turned out to be more Nigerians coming into crypto and using the p2p system, if all Nigerian who hodl or trade bitcoin uses the p2p system surely there will over take India, but the main thing here is not all of them knows about p2p system, I got to find out that the ones who knows about the p2p system are now using it a as a business to buy and sell to their fellow citizens who doesn't know about the p2p system.

At least the Nigerian authorities realized that banning the ownership of cryptocurrency is not possible. Here (in India) some of the bureaucrats wanted to send cryptocurrency users to jail, for up to 10 years. Their proposal caused a lot of confusion here in India and pulled the cryptocurrency sector here backward by at least a decade. Fortunately, saner voices seems to be prevailing now. The finance ministry has so far refused to implement this lunatic proposal.
1391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 15, 2021, 07:34:25 AM
The Pakistan team is much stronger and more stable than the South African team. Strong in both side bowling and batting. They have world class batsmen like Babar Azam and Rizwan. Shaheen Shah AFridi, Nawaz is a good enough bowler. The South African team is slowly heading for further decline. This team will not be able to win even against a small team after a while if the problem within their management is not solved properly.

To tell the truth, I wasn't really expecting the Pakistan team to win abroad, and that too in the SENA region. This is an exceptional performance from them. Reminds me of the Pakistan team that won the world cup in 1992. The only department in which I could find weakness is in spin bowling. Two decades back they had world class spinners such as Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed. The current bunch of spinners are not up to that level.
1392  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase has started trading in NASDAQ minutes ago on: April 15, 2021, 06:52:36 AM
Now that Coinbase has been valued at double digit billions, we have to wait and see what investors like Warren Buffett have to say about it.

LOL.. I don't expect any change in the stance from Warren Buffet. He has become more and more grumpy with his age and he still can't fathom the fact that an innovation that he derided earlier has now reached a market cap of $2 trillion plus. His recent statements also confirm that his stance is unchanged. That said, I need to ask you why you guys are so desperate to get the attention from this guy. IMO, we don't need his certificate or endorsement.
1393  Economy / Economics / Re: Bernard Madoff dies in prison. A 20 year long Ponzi on: April 15, 2021, 06:04:17 AM
The fact is that Madoff died in prison only because he stole money from some of the well known and powerful people. If he had cheated ordinary people, then in all probability he would have been living in luxury in London or some of the offshore tax havens. Take the case of Vijay Mallya of India. He stole around $1 billion from the Indian banks, but the UK government has refused to extradite him to India. London has become a refuge for financial criminals around the world, with dozens of them from countries sucn as India, Greece and Russia residing there. Too bad for Madoff that he couldn't get the same treatment.
1394  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ibrahimovic under FIFA and UEFA investigation on: April 15, 2021, 05:38:17 AM
Huh, so I looked around turns out the same issue was in talks already way back in 2018? Though I think it's a different case this time since the one back then was him taking the ambassadorial role for Bethard, and now this which is ownership(part) of the betting company. This might actually be closer to a ban if this is his 2nd strike of being related to gambling/betting. After all, having issues with almost the same reason with three same companies seems like a warrant for them to properly impose their punishment, lest they be seen as lenient or something.

The 2018 one: https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/03/21/zlatan-ibrahimovic-could-be-sanctioned-fa-after-involvement-new-betting-company

You are right. This is the same issue that surfaced in 2018.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-9470841/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-facing-three-year-ban-investment-betting-company-say-Swedish-reports.html

Quote
The report also details that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of the problem for three years and it is the reason the talismanic forward wasn't called up for the 2018 World Cup, though he did retire from international football in 2016 until returning last month.

Why do they take so much time to reach a decision? But it is not like Ibrahimovic hid his involvement with Bethard. He was quite vocal about his involvement with that company and was even announced as their brand ambassador back in 2018.
1395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CFNP] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: April 15, 2021, 05:19:12 AM
Guess now SRH should give some chance to Kane Williamson as their middle order looking shit so far. 3d dude Vijay Shankar disappointing everyone and Pandey ji not finishing game for his team despite his start.

Pandey is OK, but Vijay Shankar has been wasting his opportunities for some time now. Neither his batting, nor his bowling seems to be of any use for SRH. I would suggest bringing in Kane Williamson in place of Vijay Shankar. But now another question arises. Williamson being an overseas player can't directly replace Shankar. Another overseas player needs to be dropped. So who will be that? For the last game they went with Warner, Rashid, Holder and Bairstow. It is going to be an extremely tough decision.
1396  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CFNP] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: April 14, 2021, 08:05:23 PM
What is the possibility of someone predicting 6 out of 6 results correctly?
Totally possible. I got all the picks correct in one of the ending rounds in the last pool(10/10 or 11/11). It all comes down to luck basically.

LOL.. I was just joking.. anyway congratulations to RapTarX.

Perhaps I can make a comeback during the remaining rounds. The first round was a disaster for me. I don't have much hope for tomorrow's match as well (but the fact that Stokes is out of the IPL should give advantage to the Delhi Capitals). The second round will start from 16th April onward, and I am hopeful that I will be able to reverse the losing trend.
1397  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria will overtake India in P2P on: April 14, 2021, 07:26:24 PM
You don't think it will happen and it already happening my friend. You are comparing population of India to that of Nigeria but we are talking about people that are using and embracing the technology of bitcoin. Nigeria is one of the top countries that are into bitcoin and crypto trading and now that funding of wallet through normal exchange with financial institutions, the next available option is p2p which has increased by 15% since the action of central bank months ago.
Nigeria youths love opportunities and freedom, this is why they love bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Nigerian population is around 200 million, which makes it one of the most populous countries in the world. And at the same time, the cryptocurrency penetration rate is much higher than the case with India. In India, the users are mostly confined to a handful of metro cities and a few tier-2/tier-3 cities in South India. But from what I have heard, in Nigeria the coverage is much more uniform with large number of users even in smaller cities and towns.
1398  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase has started trading in NASDAQ minutes ago on: April 14, 2021, 07:07:33 PM
It's going down quite hard. There seems to be a lot of dumping going on, but I can't tell whether the promoters are involved or not. From what I have heard, the trading opened at $381 per share, and then it climbed to $429.54. At this point Coinbase had a valuation of more than $105 billion. But now it's dropping quite hard. The last time I checked, COIN was trading at $311.60 per share.

Damn.. this IPL is turning out to be a horror fest for me. At the same time, I am not sure how Rapter got 6 out of 6 results correctly. I have serious doubt that he is involved with some fixers.  Grin What is the possibility of someone predicting 6 out of 6 results correctly? First round is about to end, and the last match of this round will be played tomorrow (Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals). I have opted for DC. Let's see how it goes.
1400  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 14, 2021, 04:46:07 PM
SRH middle order was weak all the time so they don't have to lose too many wickets from now on to win this match.

Have to agree with this. After Jonny Bairstow, it is a bunch of players who are not in the best of form (at least with the bat) right now -  Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad and Jason Holder. Out of these three, Samad and Holder may be suitable for short bursts. But if they need to bat before the 15th over, then things will get complicated. Rashid Khan at no.8 can also bat, but I would rather expect Warner and Pandey (and maybe Bairstow) to take SRH near the target.
