13981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAX] MaxCoin - Alive and Kickin' on: February 10, 2014, 05:29:57 PM
I'm gettin there!
but my wallet.dat file in (maxcoin qt) opens with vlc media player, can't be right. What do I change it to?

First step would be to remove the options of opening .dat files with vlc or any other player form windows. and you change it to nothing.

13984  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.gox story on: February 10, 2014, 05:19:36 PM
1. Purposely raise the price of BTC, attract traders come to Mt.gox and deposit BTC. Market situation: Sell >> buy;
... and how did they do this, exactly? They could try to buy BTC with their own cash reserves (which I'm not sure they had enough cash to do), or they could adjust everybody's buy/sell orders up a bit, but someone would notice and call attention to it, and I haven't seen *that* happen, either. So, explain to me how they can magically cause BTC sellers to have more cash in their pockets after selling at MtGox.

Keep in mind that what you're describing is the same as when countries try to enforce a certain exchange rate for their currency versus another country's currency. In just about every case, it fails. The central bank just isn't big enough to outweigh the whims of the rest of the market.

4. Mt.gox sold customer's 40,000 BTC, and block withdrawing BTC;
Where's the record of this sale in the blockchain? How do you know it's 40,000 BTC? Where's the evidence that they've sold any depositors' BTC or that 40,000 BTC was what they had to sell?

I'm not sure Karpeles is insane enough to gamble like that with depositors' assets
. Keep in mind that BTC is a preferred currency for those who don't care much for laws (Silk Road, anybody), and, in this age of the internet, it's getting increasing difficult to hide from people who want to track you down. Surely, Karpeles woud know that, if he went down that road (of gambling with other people's money), it would end with him bleeding out in a dark alley somewhere.

Like I said... I can't imagine that he's that crazy.

Your post does make a lot of points , since there is no actual evidence on part of the op.
But , if you're questioning the sanity or should I say the insanity of the guy running the magical tux , well, .....

13986  Bitcoin / Press / Re: MTGox: Addressing Transaction Malleability on: February 10, 2014, 05:13:47 PM
This is bs! I've send and received btc 10 times in and out of exchanges in the past weekend without any issues. If no one can confirm that what they say its true then the only correct theory is that they are trying to crash the price in order to make money for themselves.

They blame it on a bug that was known for two years. They kept operating knowing of it and they didn't say a word until now.
They are trying to get clean out of this after they lost lots of money and coins.

Once we'll have the police looking into this I'm pretty sure more nasty stuff will come out of the magical mountain.
13987  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2014, 05:10:07 PM
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=418

the dev team will not approve mt.gox's proposals, gox is going to have to solve there problem another way. this is gana take weeks....

It's cool, they are most likely insolvent anyway.

I wonder how much money did they make on this crash. I doubt they haven't foreseen it and "helped" it a little.
13988  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-10] Disappointing week for Bitcoin on: February 10, 2014, 05:05:32 PM
Why is no one pointing its finger towards individuals like Max Keiser, which I think abuse the open source nature of software to create their own hype-coins and earn themselves millions on greedy "investors".

This clearly makes a lot of BTC curious potential users turn away from these new currencies. What is worse, a lot of people use VPN services just above ROI or even at loss to mine hoards of alt coins. This is clearly leaking the value out of system. I would not be surprised seeing BTC permanently at ~300-400 $ level in near future.

Because shitcoins can't be blamed for it.

If people mine and issue alt coins is because they are profitable , and if they are profitable it means people are willing to but them , spend btc on them.
You can't fight this kind of trend
13989  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-10] Disappointing week for Bitcoin on: February 10, 2014, 05:03:55 PM
lets face it.. it really has been not the best week for bitcoin.. mtgox is crumbling but i'm hoping they won't disappoint further in their upcoming PR

and what could one say about Apple... let's just say the lost a customer for life!

https://coinreport.net/bitcoin-weekly-february9-2014/

I don't know where you live but here is barely Monday evening , and there is much more from this week to still unfold.
Just like the SR crash , this could easily turn into a bull stampede.

lol, BITCOIN BANNED IN RUSSIA IN 1917

Yeah... and Satoshi was declared as an enemy of the labourers and the proletariat. He was sent to the gulag.

That was Satoshi's child which was sent from 2016 to correct the law but failed.
13992  Economy / Economics / Re: 2013-11-27 Russian lawmaker wants to outlaw U.S. dollar, calls it a Ponzi schem on: February 10, 2014, 04:58:29 PM
To put some things ibn prepective for thoose who get crazy about a bitcoin ban in Russia....!!!
it goes for all non ruble at most , its not about bitcoin or litecoin etc ,,, they just say people SHOULD use rubble!
its old law from the 1917's

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/nov/13/bill-would-outlaw-us-dollar-russia/

There are some people with too much time on their hands. Why didn't he digged deeper ? Maybe there is a law from 1914 in which is stated all the laws from 1917 are to be taken as a prank.
13993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question: Can The Same "Gox Bug" Affect Altcoins? on: February 10, 2014, 04:55:03 PM

Not bad for an answer but I do feel like the bitcoinfoundation needs to step in and really clear the situation for all the people out there. So all the fud spreaders will be silenced and gox finally caught with their lies.
13994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Question: Can The Same "Gox Bug" Affect Altcoins? on: February 10, 2014, 04:50:42 PM
Depends what you mean by flaw.

The flaw that gox is blaming lies in their client not in the bitcoin protocol. That's why other exchangers are now affected.

The so called bug they are referring in the protocol which is harmless unless a idiot is using bitcoin , is in all the alt coins.
So , if the guys at cryptsy are running the same software as gox while being on the same level of idiocy  , a lots of the alts will share the "benefits". .
13995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Milions of dollars drained from Bitcoin wallet over the weekend on: February 10, 2014, 04:46:29 PM
"Ive been watching this bank account on UBS over the weekend and they've taken out all their Euros. Millions of Euros. Anyone know who/why they could be doing that?"

... You care because...?

hahahahahaha  yeah we care.  With bitcoin we see all.  No more little secrets in that UBS bank account my friend.

So what if you can see everything? Do you entertain yourself by watching other people's BTC wallet transactions?

My point exactly.

A new trend is born , Bitcoin watching. At least is less harmful that hidden cams or up skirts fetishes some people have..
13996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What you think about Bitcoin Future ? on: February 10, 2014, 04:42:16 PM
As you can see now the US / Russia / Phili are starting to have law apply on Bitcoin

How far you think bitcoin can go ? Diff are getting harder , Gorverment are giving Pressure .

And Bitcoin can actually bring chaos to the Real world economy if it grown too big .

I don't see anything bad coming from applying the laws. It will pull bitcoin out of the dark , since most people think it's computer money used to buy drugs.

The difficulty has nothing to do with this.

And about the Chaos thing , do you use bitcoin to buy things on SR? If so , stop.
13997  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain the gox transaction malleability issue like you are five on: February 10, 2014, 04:38:39 PM
for those who own btc with gox, it seems like the issue is going to be the extent to which gox "re-issued" bitcoin deliveries to customers bc the recipients lied and said they had not received it.  if there were many double deliveries, then gox may not have the bitcoin to pay remaining owners all the bitcoin to which they are entitled.  a few issues/questions come to mind:

1. why the other exchanges are not having the same problem
2. would mtgox be able to figure out which customers claimed failed delivery but lied, and were then paid twice.
3. it seems like the gox omnibus acct should net out even at the end of the day.  double deliveries would raise red flags (one would think) when all has been netted

Because other exchangers aren't being run by fairies dancing around the magical pot of bitcoins when the owner is drunk dead in the basement ?
13998  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinDesk Removes Mt. Gox from Bitcoin Price Index on: February 10, 2014, 04:34:46 PM

One small step and the first kick in the ass from the many gox deserves.
13999  Other / Off-topic / Re: Karpeles - What will his fate be? on: February 10, 2014, 04:30:53 PM
Death by firing squad. Jokes. I think he should be glued to that exercise ball and dropped from a height of about 5 foot until he starts crying.

But how about the people who still believed in his goxhoax even after all the signals and helped him not disappearing from the crypto scene.
They are equally to blame for the proportions of the disaster.

Baaaaaawwwwwww you were hoping for an investment which is risk-free and you did not get it, cry some moar yank.

Care to join some other get-rich-quick schemes?

How 'bout the person that got some cheap btc on btc-e today. Went down to $102 for a minute. Not sure how big the orderbook on btc-e is (or was) but it must have been a lot of coins!

it will be below 100 usd, very quickly

You missed the train , or the dump.
You won't be seeing under 100$ unless there is another idiot who panic sells without even checking.
