141  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer - Frequency on: March 26, 2024, 12:49:15 AM
After cleaning my S17+ hashboards, I may have put them back in different order or different s17+ machines, does this matter?

the order doesn't matter, but different hashboards from different miners put together does cause a potential issue if you are running the stock firmware, the voltage stored in the EEPROM of the 3 hashboards needs to match, custom firmware like Vnish doesn't care about that and thus it allows mix and match of different hashboards.

Quote
but my other machine now only has two working hashboards, and they are showing different figures 610 and 602

It's okay for frequencies to be different, it doesn't matter, the miner would tune itself and every board would run on its desired frequency.

I can't see anything in the picture!!

142  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: huge fuckup on an order from bitmain on: March 26, 2024, 12:14:29 AM
In this case, Bitmain and DHL are supposed to coordinate and help you out send the right paper work so you can clear with customs. That's the only way out.

Bitmain would tell you the miner is yours the moment DHL picks it up from them, DHL would tell you, we can't do shit unless instructed by the shipper because it was shipped from their account, I had a similar issue happening to me, not the wrong name, but it was the wrong destination, it arrived to some far away country and stopped there, I contacted my local DHL and they said this is what the Air waybill and shipping details point to, despite them acknowledging that the shipment is actually mine.

It took me days of back-and-forth emails with Bitmain, they literally told me there was nothing they could do, I kept getting different responses from different Bitmain employees until one of them ( her name was Jessica) she helped me settle the matter, they contacted DHL and she sent me a new tracking number.

Phill, you need to keep bothering shity Bitmain until they send the correct documents to DHL, I did search my email inbox to find Jessica's email but all emails I received from Bitmain were from support@bitmainhelp.zendesk.com but labeled differently, Jessica, Olivia and etc.
143  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What filters or materials for filters do you use? on: March 26, 2024, 12:00:16 AM
I find this interesting. Is this how most people approach a cold room / hot room setup? I've done 6 now, and I've never used fans for the air in. All my setups are passive on the air inlet, I only use fans to extract as follows:

It's a little bit more complicated than it seems, but in general, you don't need in-fans, in fact, for most designs, in-fans will create more harm than good, there are two important components to perfect cooling, air volume and air velocity, injecting air at the fast speed into the farm would cause air turbulence.

You should also know that the type of intake matters, louvers or not(air coming in through louvers has higher FPM), filtered or not, so it's a lot of things to consider to reach perfect cooling, the most important factor is your static pressure around the fans, the CFM labeled on all fans is usually reference against pressure of 0 PSI, the higher the PSI the less the CFM, enough high static pressure could make your fan spin without moving the slightest bit of air.

I have probably not talked much about airflow for years, and whatever posts I wrote before were basically based on my own personal experience, they do the job, but probably far from perfect, I have learned too much over the years through educating myself more about HVAC, Airflow, Air pressure, and all related subjects, the size of the farms I set up (either for myself or for clients) has also changed, but I can give you one general rule that would be 90% perfect without going into many details.

Do 0.1 square meter intake and 700 cubic m/hr per miner
US folks do: 1 sq ft intake and  400 cfm per miner

For 10 miners you would do 1 square meter (just a window in the wall sized 1m by 1m) and 7000  cubic m/hr exhaust fan
US folks: for 10 miners you would do 10 square feet and 4000CFM

Credit goes to Aviral of altairtech who gave me this simple rule which works perfectly.

144  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Any custom OS for over/under-clocking Ebang ASICS? on: March 25, 2024, 02:53:58 AM
You need Ebang Ebit miner management, unfortunately, Ebang removed all URL extensions to their tools and manuals, I found an archive page on the waybackmachine for the manuals here > https://web.archive.org/web/20210618211550/http://miner.ebang.com.cn/article-19.html

Also someone on this forum uploaded the tool, here is the post

here link to  EMM:
Code:
farstyle.net/soft/EbitMinerMiniV1.0.3.5EN.zip
Also you can use MyFarm x100, it can be downloaded in telegram chanel:
Code:
https://t.me/myfarm_updates

Download it at your own risk!!

Ebang tool will let you change the miner's frequency which is what you need for overclocking/underclocking.

Ebang made the shitiest gears on the planet, hope you can work it out.

I already suspected that sooner or later this would happen. @pytagoraz, you told me that everything would be fine, it was your fault.

I'm so sorry, I'll try to explain to them. I sent you a message, please reply. Sorry because you must be very angry with me

Or maybe wait till you meet him again at the coffee shop?

I suggest you read about Dissociative identity disorder, it's when someone has two or more distinct personalities, the peak of it is when those personalities start to communicate with one another.

My humble advice -- stop trying to defend yourself, even if you (or both of you) were actually innocent, there is nothing you can say or do to undo what has been done, you will probably start a new account or use one of the "unfound" accounts to start climbing a ladder again, might as well just save the efforts and start now.
147  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How important is BTC hodl for a mining company? on: March 24, 2024, 01:34:02 AM
Timing is everything, being on a fixed plan of HODL or SELL won't yield the best result for the mining company, holding BTC is as important as holding cash, when it's time to pay bills or infrastructure expansion -- you need cash, when it's time to buy ASICs -- you need BTC, many people don't know this but the price of ASIC miners is directly related to the value of BTC.

In general, a company that keeps increasing its bags of BTC simply means the company is operating effectively, many investors view selling BTC as a bad thing for a mining company, and it's pretty evident during bear markets where mining companies sell a lot more BTC by being under pressure given that their power bill and operational cost is almost the same throughout the year, it's the percentage of mined BTC they need to sell to cover their expenses that would differ, two companies mining the same exact amount of BTC, one selling 50% of it another is selling 70%, this would give you the impression that the first company is doing a lot better in its overall mining operations.

149  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help connecting to Ebang Miner - need definite way on: March 24, 2024, 12:31:57 AM
I think this has to do with the control board of your Ebang miner, everything you are describing points me to control board and nothing else. You would need to reset the miner or get a spare hashboard. Obviously, there is still a small possibility that the ethernet cable/plug is causing this, so it's worth trying those first, if nothing works, then a hard reset and SDcard flash with the latest firmware is a must, if all fails -- get a new control board.
150  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: START mining the testnet on: March 24, 2024, 12:15:44 AM
It's not SUPPOSED to have value, that is true, but it's still a functioning PoW chain which means you need electricity, hardware and money to mine. If it had NO value then faucets would give away 100 coins for free, but they don't because it costs money to mine, and it's not easy to obtain large amounts when you need a modern ASIC to mine testnet.

I have to disagree, the only reason why faucets are not giving away 100 coins for free is the fact that getting tBTC became difficult and costly, and why is this the case? it's because of greedy people hitting the testnet with ASICs, so pointing people to hammer the testnet with more ASICs isn't going to solve the problem, it will only make it worse.

It should cost less to mine testnet coins than to watch a movie , speaking both bandwidth and electricity, so saying that it needs "electricity, hardware, and money to mine" is technically correct but put in context is just wrong, you may not be intentionally doing it, but comments like that give the illusion that tBTC must have some inherent monetary value to make worth more than it was intended to be.

Also, there is a technical issue with testnet due to PowAllowMinDifficultyBlocks whereby it takes the last block's difficulty and assumes it was the average difficulty for the entire epoch which then sets the entire new epoch to difficulty of 1 if the last block of any given epoch is 1, or if some asshole miner sets the last block timestamp 20 mins into the future.

When ASIC miners are hammering the testnet while its diff is 1, thousands of blocks will be found in a second, this causes blockchain reorg, a very resource-consuming process, you can imagine the resources it takes to reorg millions of blocks and then get hammered again with another blockchain reorg while in the middle of the first one, nearly every node that uses memory for that purpose will freeze and go out of service, this happens with more than 10% of all epochs, all due to the fact the greedy people are using large ASIC gears on testnet.

I understand that some honest and good devs just want a few tBTC to test their shit, but two wrongs don't make a right, it's like saying "If I don't do it - someone else would", it's fine if you want to be another asshole in the Bitcoinverse, but don't use it as an excuse to do the wrong stuff.

Even if you desperately needed those coins, as a dev, you could be aware of the "dirty" ways you can obtain them in secret, it's still a lot less harmful than going public asking miners to rekt testnet so you can test whatever software you are working on.

Furthermore, for the vast majority of tests, you can use regtest or even better, use Signet.

151  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 1166 Hasboard Screw support thread come off, board doesnt work. on: March 22, 2024, 01:33:34 AM
The part circled red is what has came off.
Is this just mechanical strength or for power?

That is your DC power positive terminal, without it, there is no power feeding into the hashboard, how else do you think the hashboard is receiving power from the PSU? you will need to resolder that terminal, and make sure it's done by a professional, these things need to be tight for voltage to be in the required range, if it's loose, you could toast the board, be careful while dealing with it, the fact that it fell suggests that it was overheating, that's common if you didn't tighten the screws, loose terminals = heat.
152  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antproxy -- Bitcoin mining proxy + log/monitoring script on: March 22, 2024, 01:26:22 AM
I came across this a few weeks ago and have been implementing.

Do you know what the Locker Mode is for LTC, or the BPS mode?

It runs BTC fine, but when I use LTC, it starts throwing errors.. (I am trying to just run Scrypt pool, and not actually LTC pool...)

I honestly never tried the proxy on any altcoin mining, in reality, I don't mine any altcoins using ASIC miners anymore, the last coins I mined were LTC and DASH, and that was like 5 years ago or so, I would help you if I had an altcoin miner but the way it's now, it will be impossible for me to offer any help, but what you need to know is that the proxy doesn't work fine with all pools, not all pools are good with handling mining proxies.

You might find some answers in the altcoin mining section referenced in the above comment.
153  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 100kw+ Giant solar project hoping for veteran advise. on: March 20, 2024, 12:26:49 AM
I would wait for the halving before buying anything, then given that you can only run 20kw worth of miners I would try to get as much hashrate as I possibly could to make it worthwhile, otherwise it would be not worth the trouble.

I do think Whatsminer has a better value for money, Whatsminer gears have proven over the years that they are a lot more reliable than Antminers despite being slightly less efficient, i would go for M50 M60, but again, all depending on the prices post halving.
154  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 1166 Hasboard Screw support thread come off, board doesnt work. on: March 20, 2024, 12:18:44 AM
I did not look inside an avalon 1166 but my guess is, there are no screws to attach the hashboards to the chassis, the only two screws are the power terminals (negative and positive) which supply DC power from the PSU to the hashbosrd.

In the old models, power used to be supplied via a 6 pin connector, now it is a busbar connected directly, but it could be something else you are talking about so please post some pictures.
155  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17 pro not hashing on AwesomeMiner on: March 19, 2024, 12:28:43 AM

AwesomeMiner is a brilliant software and it is a must to monitor and control your miners, but you need to understand how to use it, otherwise, if there exist any rule with the wrong conditions -- it would cause more issues.

I can help you check the rules and check the logs to see what triggers the reboot, i'd need a PC with anydesk on it, or, you could just read the documentations of the software and once you are familiar with it you can do yourself.

Also, one way to go about this would be to use mass config on vnish firmware to change the password of all miners, once done, awesomeminer won't be to control your gears, in fact, it is pretty risky to keep the default web and SSH logins, you must change them anyway, disable SSH and change the web password.
156  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: START mining the testnet on: March 18, 2024, 03:02:36 AM
Will pay miners for testnet coins looking to get 10000 atleast.

Most miners nowadays use ASIC miners to mine bitcoin, inviting to mine on testnet would simply rekt it and render it useless for research and development, current testnet diff is about 90M, mainnet is at 85T, that's 85,000,000MH, moving just 1% from mainnet to testnet will destroy it for as long as that large hashrate is sitting there on the testnet, the current hashrate for testnet is roughly

((1) * 97000000 * 2^32 )/600/1000000000000 = 347TH, and diff does drop to 1 very often when blocks aren't found for 20 mins, so it's pretty usable for the average Joe, if you point a few latest-gen gears there, you make it impossible for the rest to use it, so leave it the fuck alone.
157  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: March 17, 2024, 12:03:59 PM
There is a solution, all you have to do is convince those companies to go public,

Funny that you quoted Bitdeer News because that is a publicly listed Bitmain branch, you know who is the CEO? Probably even the founder? Jihan Wu, rings a bill?

As for thier new chip its most likely just BM1368 rebranded.

Current pace is 95%, i say we get a small 1% increase or so.
158  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17 pro not hashing on AwesomeMiner on: March 16, 2024, 01:13:46 AM
I am leaning towards the devpool issue, do you also have AwesomeMiner software running? There could be a random rule causing that.

Reach out to Patrike or post on his thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=676942.0 he would be able to help you better if you provide the API logs to some of the miners you have.

But to save time, change one of the miners' firmware to BO+ or Bitmain stock, if it runs fine then you know it's firmware related issue, also make sure your router firewall isn't blocking the dev pool.
159  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: March 16, 2024, 12:41:17 AM
Is there any information about the total number of ASIC miners that have been produced to date?
And if with these numbers, it is possible to perceive the total hash power that has been manufactured to date?

Nop, some of the large orders are public but you can't tell much just by looking at what a few companies bought, there are three major Asic miner manufacturers, Bitmain, MicroBT and Canaan (in order), none of them reveal the info you looking for.

Furthermore, even if we had all that info at hand, you just can't reach a definite conclusion, the real question is, how much power there is and how much it costs everybody to run certain gears.

For all we know, for a country that has a lot of spare electricity can still mine with older gears, we have no clue how many of the old S9, S17, or M20/M20s still run, all we can do is speculate and use common sense although many things in mining don't make much sense anyway.
160  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: March 15, 2024, 03:17:02 PM
Phill, there are new gears coming online everyday that's for sure, but the numbers are just massive when you translate them to money and electcity.

We are at roughly 600EH, simple math for those new commers, 1EH = 1,000,000TH.

When we get 1% change in either direction we are talking about 6EH, ,6 million tera hash, Antminet S19 or Whatminer M30 do roughly 100th so you need 60,000 miner to make a 1% change, to make a 5% change you need 60,000*5 or 300k miners.

Using S21 or Whatsminer M60, you can divide the number by 2, so ya for a 5% change it is 150k gears.

Power wise = 150,000* 3.6KW = 540MW, that is the average output of a gas power plant, 10 of them are enough to run a whole country with a small population.

You just can't do this every other epoch, it is too much.
