1061  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining Pool distribution monthly reports on: April 04, 2023, 05:19:06 PM
Again I cannot see this happening without BTC price crashing and thus their income crashing.

Indeed, there is no incentives for any pool or large miners to screw with BTC, the rewards will be a lot less than the risk taken but any one of those entities since those have so much at stake, however, there is valid concern in terms of the "law", so mining pools that operate whiting the same country could be "forced"to do some stupid things just to obey the laws and regulation.
1062  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bitcoin Mining Pool distribution monthly reports on: April 03, 2023, 07:16:58 PM

This is maybe worst case of centralization of mining pools since I follow this subject from 2020, and I hope it wont get worse.

It depends on how you actually look at it, this is not the first time where two entities alone have more than 50% of the total hasharate, a few years ago Bitmain as an entity (antpool, btc.com and Viabtc) had 30-35% and along with Binance or f2pool they had more than half the total hashrate, so pretty similar to what is happening now, in fact it was even worse since those pools operated in the same country.

This however does not concern me more than the actual hashrate physical location, it went from China to now the U.S hosting half the hashrate, things like blacklisting certain addresses due to U.S sanctions only started happening when hashrate moved to the U.S, I hate both U.S and Chinese governments (more like I hate every government out there) but the U.S is worse in this regards, I think now if we have no choice but to mine to U.S or China pool, China pool would be better.
1063  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NFTs in the Bitcoin blockchain - Ordinal Theory on: April 03, 2023, 02:35:41 AM
So, even mikeywith's (below-referenced) listing of who needs to be convinced seems to leave out an important fact in regards to those running the nodes

You are correct, I missed a dozen of them in the list, payment gateways, wallets, and whatnot, some people seem to think that a change in bitcoin can and must happen just because they wrote about it, look at all the changes we had in the past couple years, taproot was proposed around 2019 IIRC, took a lot of lobbying, emails, debates, and testing for it to come to existence, now some folks want to go back and do another change which they call a "fix" and they expect to happen tomorrow and all they do is write about it in this topic where 99% of those who have the means to do it don't even know about the existence of this topic.

NFTs don't have to pay better than the highest fee txn in a block, they just need to produce a fee just higher than the txns they displace. But if they aren't displacing txns, then they can effectively be zero fee.

NFTs raise demand on block space, anything that raises demand increases the price of that said service, if everyone is paying 1 sat and blocks are full, someone will pay 2 sat, it's either an NFT transactions or a normal transaction, it doesn't matter, the number/size of the transactions is all that matters.

Block fees are the highest they have ever been since July 2021, it's all because of those useless NFTs, wether that's a good or a bad thing the fact is, as a pool operator and a miner you will extract more "value" with NFTs on the blockchain than without.
1064  Economy / Services / Re: [APRIL FOOL] Re-Launch Sinbad Signature campaign | Reward up-to $350/w on: April 03, 2023, 02:16:08 AM
Ouch this should hurt for many users after raising people's hopes Cry Cry

The chances of being accepted to any high-paying campaign are slim to nothing for most average users, even if this was a real deal, >90% of the applications would not have been accepted, so what hopes would anyone have over a new campaign? if someone plans to take a loan or get married just because they got accepted to a signature campaign then something is seriously wrong with them, so let alone have high hopes even before getting accepted.

The only thing that might affect those who applied (myself included) is that if you were already a part of another campaign -- its manager might see it as "you are not serious about their campaign and might be replaced by someone else", but I am sure most campaign managers don't take those things personally and do understand fair well that this is only 'business'.

I still remember when I got accepted to CM, I was a part of another mixer's campaign run by Hhampuz, and he went out of his way to ask DS if we could finish the week so that he could pay us before changing our signature, he was very professional and showed no signs of being mad at me and the other two guys who moved from his campaign, I am sure the other folks like Royse, yahoo and icopress and the rest would act as professional, so all in all, nobody had lost anything.

One last piece of advice to everyone is to stop taking signature campaigns as a main source of income, there is nothing more stupid than that, we all love the forum and love posting (I posted here for years before even applying to any campaign) but then I figured out if I can get some little extra income while doing something I already do, why not? but you should still treat every week as if it's the last week, make zero plans on what you are going to do with the payment for this week or next week.
1065  Other / Meta / Re: New CAPTCHA now required before posting on: April 01, 2023, 03:26:23 AM
44 let's see who beats this number.  Tongue

How did you do it currently can get only 4 at the moment

The secret is not to be afraid of falling, do not rush to jump, allow the bird to go low and only jump right before reaching the column,  so when it first starts, make a random jump then jump when close to the column, every coin requires 2 jumps, when the next column is tall delay the first jump, when it is short jump as soon as you pass the previous one.

Takes some getting used to but then it gets easy.
1066  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 50% off for antminer s19 XP by bitmain on: April 01, 2023, 03:20:01 AM
Well you chopped the quote short ... but anyway ...

It's advised against quoting full posts according to forum mods, I had no bad intention in doing so since my reply was within the context of the post as a whole.

I guess if someone wanted people to move to scamcoins coz BTC was too slow and to expensive, then this would work for them.

Ok, that's true, but that someone can still arrive at the same goal by sending "normal" transactions, it's easier and takes fewer computer resources to simply look at the unconfirmed transactions and just out paying the average by 1 sat sending spam transactions between different addresses you own.

I am not saying I support these things, I just disagree with calling them a hack or exploit since the effect they have on other transactions is the same as spam transactions, so it's nothing new, someone figured out a way to store some data on the blockchain which many people refer to as "useless data" while many others who are interested in the NFT stuff and spend dozen of money on it elsewhere see it as a great improvement which they would want to use and pay for.

1067  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Creating a Mining Pool on: April 01, 2023, 02:00:05 AM
It's really all good though as this forced me to dive in headfirst which I must say given what is being discovered is greatly to my benefit.

Ya, his previous partnership didn't seem to have ended well, I also remember him saying that he doesn't want to partner with anyone anymore, not too long ago in the Cksolo pool thread.

1069  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Creating a Mining Pool on: March 31, 2023, 05:30:52 PM
I did reach out to CK to help me and offered him a fair compensation to help code up something using his base code but he politely declined. This of course after KitKatz went rogue on me which wasn't as kind...

It's actually a good thing since at this point I'm deep into fully unique pool code which some assumed i wouldn't be able to do or figure out.

There's nothing better than proving someone wrong when they make assumptions about your skill level or determination.

Wink

It's great to hear that you got the pool code sorted out, if everything goes according to plan, you might start doing what CK refused to do, offer a service to those who want to run mining pools.

On a side but related note, the pool I talked about started not too long ago, so not sure why CK would do that pool but not yours, maybe he didn't like your offer?
1070  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 50% off for antminer s19 XP by bitmain on: March 31, 2023, 04:07:16 AM
The excuse that mining must be kept alive at "any" cost, can only come from people who don't care about Bitcoin and only want to make the most money out

Why does it have to be this way? the "You either agree with me or you are my enemy" approach doesn't solve anything, there are many positive points that NFTs/Ordinals supporters have to share, it isn't only the mining/fees reward subject, there is also the aspect of "value" which said things can add to BTC at least in theory.

I'd like to make clear that I think NFTs are rubbish and I wouldn't buy the most expensive NFT for a single satoshi, but those NFTs could attract a good base of users which could result in an overall stronger blockchain.

NFT's are an attack and an expliot.
They dramatically reduce the number of transactions confirmed per block.

But NFTs transferred on the blockchain are "transactions" themselves, they don't cheat the system or kick the "normal transactions" outside of the system by using some magic, they just make transacting on the blockchain more expensive, and the same thing can happen if those transactions were just spam transactions exchanging millions of outputs to keep blocks near full to raise transaction fees, so it doesn't seem like saying "attack an exploit" fits here, I think you could call it "useless data" that shouldn't be on the blockchain.

1072  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Creating a Mining Pool on: March 31, 2023, 02:30:30 AM
I already have the mining infrastructure available so that is not of a concern.

You don't need any mining infrastructure to operate a mining pool, the same way you don't need to operate a pool to run the mining infrastructure.

With that said, there are no plug-and-play pools that can be deployed as a final product, start by looking at open-source projects like Ckpool, I know that someone recently deployed a pool and had to hire Con Kolivas to make the Ckpool operational.
1073  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 10 best recommended Bitcoin miners. on: March 30, 2023, 12:06:52 AM
LOL, this must be a terrible bot posting this shit, ALL prices above are wrong, some gears are 7-8 years old and no where to be found nor are profitable at any power rate, many models are wrongly spelled and/or do not exist, what is the purpose of posting this b.s?
1074  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How effective is biowaste energy in bitcoin mining on: March 29, 2023, 09:30:56 PM
It make zero difference what the biowaste power is used for. Power is power and typically biowaste is used to produce methane that in turn is piped to homes for heat & cooking and of course can also used to power generators.

Regardless of the end use it all boils down to how much methane the system produces and how efficient the generators are.

True, furthermore, what really matters the most is the price of the energy, let us assume I figure out a way of generating power out of thin air at no cost, and I can sell that power for 10 cents per kWh, if I use that power to mine BTC when the average miner pays only 6 cents then technically i am losing potential profit.
1075  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 50% off for antminer s19 XP by bitmain on: March 29, 2023, 03:36:12 AM
Even more fucked is the NFT part.

Promoting putting garbage in blockchains is just ridiculous.

There is an extensive debate on the NFT subject, people have mixed views on the subject, but to Bitmain, the deal is simple, more data on the blockchain = more fees per block, so they make more money by

1- Keeping the block fees on their PPLNS Antpool.
2- Selling their gears for a higher price since now the gears make more BTC.

Ya, that stuff could be bad for Bitcoin in the long term, but as far as the short-term gains are concerned, Bitmain would love to flood the blockchain with all things.
1076  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: March 29, 2023, 01:46:37 AM
Current Pace:   102.8723%  (708 / 688.23 expected, 19.77 ahead)
I guess it is just random variations.

These numbers make more sense, the 10% and above doesn't seem realistic and normal by any means, I mean we are at about 350EH now, 10% is 35EH, that is the equivalent of 350,000 S19j pro or M30/M50, and 1,000,000 KW or 1000MW, that happening in 2 weeks is just not in the cards, 1% is 35,000 gears and 100MW, still some big numbers but doable, 2% is 200MW and 70,000 gears, not impossible, but even 5% doesn't make sense, let alone 10% or 12%.
1077  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: To what extent can Artificial intelligence (AI) Enhance BTC mining. ? on: March 29, 2023, 01:29:09 AM
If the AI is perfectly developed I think it would "Enhance" BTC mining to some extent, but not quite in the way you think, it's more so the other way around, it would help the ignorant lazy people who buy mining gears without understanding a thing or two about the economics of BTC mining, and honestly, mining is rather complicated when looked at from the outside.

Someone would google or find a video on youtube that says, how I earn $1000 every month using ABC asic miner, someone who has no clue and can't or doesn't do the math to fit his power rate and buying price, would jump in and buy the same gears thinking they would be making the same amount of money, and of course, they won't, they would help raise the difficulty and make life harder for other rational miners, and then leave, but they will keep coming.

You might think that there aren't many people like that, but I can tell you with complete certainty that there are many, you can read the stories in this section or on the other various sources, and the amount of clueless people who jump into mine bitcoin without the slightest chance of making any profit is pretty high.

So that's one way AI could affect mining as a business since gathering the relevant info and doing the correct math seems challenging to many people.
1078  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: One board of an old T9 not working on: March 28, 2023, 02:21:21 AM
Chain[J6] has 57 asic
Chain[J7] has 57 asic
Chain[J8] has 0 asic

The Antminer T9 has a total of 171 chips, which means every single hashboard has 57 of them (unlike the S9 which has 63 each), the 3rd board which should be most left when standing in front of the miner (you can check the label on the control board it will be labeled there, either as J8 or something that represents the last number like 1,2,3 it will be 3).

Check if that board is connected, check both the data/ribbon cable and the power cable from the PSU, swap hash boards and see if the kernel log changes, if not, try to flash the control board with a different firmware, if all fails, it means one of the chips is dead and needs fixing, which isn't an easy thing to do.

And by the way, please use the code tag next time to post your kernel log.

So it's either the theory we were discussing is dismissed, or they saw us talk about it so they decided to play mind games with us (conspiracy theories are fun). Cheesy

Anyway, redoing the math over and over again I still don't see how that theory holds up, also one point I failed to mention in my previous calculation is the fact this "game" becomes harder to play the more the network grows, I could see this played on small coins but not with BTC, so the theory of someone shutting down to help keep diff low is kind of dismissed for me at this stage, something like Bitmain, Canaan or MicroBT randomly testing/abusing gears and causing massive hashrate swings seems more reasonable to me, of course, just being random luck variance still holds the strongest possibility of them all, until proven otherwise.
1080  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Looking for a real mining platforms that pays. on: March 26, 2023, 03:25:44 AM

But if you buy mining machines such as Antminer S9, Asic and others, maybe somehow I can say that you can get a profit in this matter, just depends on the mining pool that you will use.

This is not 2017 anymore, nobody makes profit on Antminer S9 anymore, unless you have totally free power, and no, it is not about the mining pool you use,it is all about watt per terahash and how much you pay your power provider, everything else is almost irrelevant to the profitablity of bitcoin mining.
