1041  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin can be made efficient and less energy consuming? on: April 12, 2023, 01:45:45 AM
deliver a better security/energy consumption equation.

You are going to need to define what "better energy consumption equation" actually means!  is "less" better? I could argue that more is better, economies grow and prosper due to demand and not lack thereof, Bitcoin's need for energy creates demand, creates jobs, and overall strengthens the economy in a lot of ways, so the more energy Bitcoin uses the better for everyone.

can you also tell me how to bid correctly? and what's the difference between limit and speed? because sometimes I see the ehs speed lower than the limit does that mean this miner have some hard or software failures?

It seems like most of your recent questions are related to "how to use Nicehash", it would be great if Willi or someone else who uses the platform very often can write a topic explaining how to use the service, it's pretty simple but the fact that you have to ask all these questions suggests that many people struggle to use it but are afraid to ask.
1043  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Come and mine Bitcoin in Africa. on: April 12, 2023, 12:47:26 AM
However, which of these have high quality high reliability data centres?

As far as the topic at hand is concerned, you don't need a data center to mine Bitcoin, many mining farms do exist in Africa, they face many issues but internet connection is not one of them.

Power infrastructure is the main concern, whatever Statista has to say about how cheap electricity is in Africa is pretty much far from accurate, power is cheap in most African countries because it's subsidized, and even the oil-rich countries don't own enough petroleum refineries, so the cost of electricity is pretty on the high end even for those countries, and since it's subsidized, it's pretty limited, many countries don't produce anything above 5000-10000MW worth of power, Africa as-is is a terrible place for any large mining operation.
1044  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 273 blocks solved! on: April 11, 2023, 04:23:37 AM
to mine through nicehash using this solo pool what level of nicehash kyc needed 2 or 3? do we need the latest tier that contains ( - EasyMining reward claim (Catch the Block)) or this doesn't refer to withdraw this solo mining profits?

this solo pool sends the profits to my own personal wallet or will send it to nicehash if I use nicehash mining power?

You don't need to KYC yourself, I have not tried super large amounts but I guess at some point if you go too big you are going to have to go through a KYC of some sort, other than that, you should be good to go.

This pool will send the payout to whichever BTC address you set in the worker field when entering your pool details on nicehash, nothing goes to your nicehash wallet.

can someone post a filled screenshot of " Add new pool " on nicehash settings
stratum+tcp://solo.ckpool.org

Don't type the whole URL, this is what's giving you the error, Nicehash already has the initial part of "stratum+tcp://", all you need is

Code:
solo.ckpool.org

1045  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Come and mine Bitcoin in Africa. on: April 11, 2023, 04:15:21 AM
Ping times to jo-burg from europe were terrible when I had a node down there.

alas, ping times are directly related to the distance, Johannesburg is in South Africa, it's the furthest point in Africa from Europe,  half of Africa is closer to the EU than the east part of U.S, EU is closer to the majority of African countries than to the western part of the U.S, a random example would be ping from Lagos to London, which averages below 100ms, a much better result than most other locations in respect to London.
1046  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: April 11, 2023, 03:57:31 AM
I don't know what laws the USA has or how they define mothballing there but I've seen it numerous times, they can come back to life pretty fast, so yeah, possible. Unlikely, but doable!

The U.S is leading the green world drama contest, it would be a terrible move to bring back a retired 2500MW coal plant, and not to heat homes or put patients on their ventilators, no, just to mine BTC, ya in times like last year were gas and oil prices were pretty high, many so-called green countries paused their love for planet earth and started burning more coal, but it was all done in the name of the "poor people who were going to freeze and die", they got away with that because it's war plus people's lives were at stake, Bitcoin is a different story, you got the climate folks and many politicians wanting to shut down everything mining related, even the farms which run on clean energy, they accuse Bitcoin miners of raising solar panels prices and whatnot, going that deep into coal burning is not going to happen IMO.

1047  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proof of Space with RAM on: April 11, 2023, 01:01:43 AM
There's an alternative that exists already: ACIS-resistant protocols that require a large amount of RAM to mine. It still needs processing power, but you can't really avoid that if you don't want the content of the RAM to be stored on disk.

You are correct Loyce, the point I was trying to make is that no matter what protocol you use in order to achieve any sort of decentralization is always going to end up in the same way,  ACIS-resistant protocols, a recent example of that is Chia coin and its protocol which is based on both proof of space and time, all you need is a hard drive to store the plots, and a processor to make those plots did not take long for someone to figure out a way of writing that space with RAM in a faster and cheaper way.

The argument people had of how that protocol was more decentralized than BTC's POW is that fact that people had better access to HDDs than to ASICs, it took only a few months for that theory to go out the window, videos of large farms with thousands of HDDs were floating around, in just a few months every average Joe with a few 10TBs HDDs was not able to make any profit.

It doesn't matter what protocol you use, the end result is going to be pretty much the same, people that know how to make money will always find ways to make more money, even when you give the average Joe a chance to make money he will miss it, so thinking that ASIC miners are the problem and by using something else absolute decentralization is going to be achieved is daydreaming.
1048  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: April 10, 2023, 04:24:38 PM

If you check the list of currently working plants you will see that many of them have a retirement date ahead, some should be sitting down in a few months, good luck bringing a 2500mw coal plant back to life in 2023 with all the climate activists in the U.S, let alone, do that for the sole purpose of Bitcoin mining, it's going to be very difficult IMO.

I still think that any considerable hashrate jump will be the result of gear-swapping or using existing excessive power somewhere rather than newly built plants, it will get more and more difficult for hashrate to move the further we go, only a price jump can change that, when it starts making sense to move from S19 to S19 xp hydro or anything that gives 25-35% more hash for the same power, only then we would see those large diff jumps.
1049  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proof of Space with RAM on: April 10, 2023, 04:20:48 AM
if a proof of ram coin enters the market it is only a matter of time for decentralization. we could say the same with bitcoin in 2009 because amazon had big servers.

It would be just a matter of time before someone starts making larger rams that are capable of doing the job better than the average ram, and even if that fails, the large players will end up owning enough RAM that makes everyone else's ram pretty useless, ASIC miners came as a natural result of people's desire to make more money more efficiently, it doesn't matter how you want to start the protocol, RAM, CPUs, GPUs or even light bulbs, the system will evolve and we would still end up with something like ASIC miners.

1051  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how do miner picks transactions for candidate block on: April 10, 2023, 03:17:17 AM
can they pick any valid transactions with significantly low fee?

They sure can, most people think no pool does that, but that's not the case, some pools do, a great example is ViaBTC pool which offers transaction accelerator services, they would include transactions that pay very low fees in return for a good payment directly to their wallet outside of the pool accounting.

Example:

The current fee is 1$, someone (usually by mistake ) pays 1 cent and their transaction is now stuck, they need it confirmed ASAP, they would pay $10 directly to the pool, and the pool will drop a $1 transaction and include the 1 cent transaction instead, the pool loses 4% of 0.9$ (the fees they collect from the miners), but they keep $10 to themselves, the miners, on the other hand, lose 96% of 0.9$.

Quote
i guess if it's an automated process, miner can't pick low fee transaction at all but i read that miners can include any transactions they want for the candidate block.

It is automated, the software does that, you can modify the code however you like, you can have your friend's transactions included regardless of fees, you can simply choose not to include any transaction in the block, and you can even include invalid transactions and lose a whole block, you can do just about anything you want since the code is under your control as a pool operator, but just because you "can" doesn't mean you would, it's all about profit.
1052  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitmain S9 - How to confirm hashboard failure on: April 10, 2023, 02:30:30 AM
I would like to add another important point to go on top of what ZuesBTC mentioned, you should swap everything between J7 and J5/J6, not just the ribbon cable, swap the 6 pin power cable as well, and then fire the miner up, there is also no need to check the voltage or anything like that to arrive to the conclusion you need, just look at the kernel log, find the following part

Code:
Chain[5] has 63 asic
Chain[6] has 63 asic
Chain[7] has 0 asic

Let's say you swapped 7<>6, if the board is good and the issue is either the data cable or power cable, the kernel log will be the same

Code:
Chain[5] has 63 asic
Chain[6] has 63 asic
Chain[7] has 0 asic

This means even the old J6 which is now J7 isn't working in that slot, so you know the previous J7 which is now J6 was good all along, and it's either the PSU or the data cable that needs replacing.

if however, the kernel long changes to

Code:
Chain[5] has 63 asic
Chain[6] has 0 asic
Chain[7] has 65 asic

You would apply the same logic above (inversed) and reach the conclusion that you the hashboard is physically dead and needs further diagnosis, and repair.

While performing the test, it's best to unplug J5's 6-pin power cables.

I understand we can't be added to the list without someone on the forum vouching for us, though we can provide references from past customers upon request if needed.

It's going to take some vouching to be added for sure, but it takes some pictures/videos and any other proof for members actually to trust sending their gear to you, upon checking your website, I found nothing enduring, you seem to be using the same photo (not a real photo of some ASIC miner) floating on all the different pages.

I am not trying to tell you what to do, I am not the boss here, this is just friendly advice if you want to do business in the forum, the default/common belief around here is that "everyone is a scammer until proven otherwise" so please don't take anything I or anyone else say personal.

the strange thing is nicehash sells 0.1 EH/s for 7,000 USD a day while 0.1 EH/s means 40,000 of S19 xp hyd that generates $300,000 a day. Why would they rent it for 1% of its daily profits amount?

1Exa = 1000000 tera

S19xp = 255terahash

0.1Eh = 100,000tera

so

0.1eh = 392 S19 Hyd

3exa, that's just 30 000 S19, it does feel strange with price knowing at 30k levels to have only this small rise when we had a 25Exash rise back in January when things were really bleak.

3exahash is 100mw worth of power assuming the best gears, it not just the number of gears, you need to check the power needed for them to run, 100mw is no freaking joke,  that is a whole turbine or 1/5 of the a whole gas plant according to plants i have seen in my country, it is of course easier to produce in a place like the U.S, but it is certainly not easily doable every 2 weeks when you start wanting 300mw and whatnot.

I think a part of why hashrate kept a high pace is swapping old gears with new, whereby most of the infrastructure was already there, there is almost noway on planet earth one can deploy 25eh from scratch in 2 weeks.

1059  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: بوت لقراءة الرسائل on: April 05, 2023, 02:32:41 AM

1060  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: Paxful نهاية موقع on: April 05, 2023, 01:20:44 AM
