141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will Bitmain Antminers S9 and T9 be obsolete if Segwit is launced ? on: April 12, 2017, 12:00:24 AM
I wonder if Bitmain's Chinese Patented method of using Merkle Collisions (I do like that name better...) lists your work and that of the ASICBoost Authors as Prior Art? I would hope that the Chinese Patent process would at least require mention of that...
I don't have any information about Bitmain's patent, except rumors that it is copy of ASICBoost.
Found it... Surprised no one else bothered to Google it...
https://www.google.com/patents/WO2015077378A1?cl=en
The fact that it lists Timo Tobias HANKE, Sergio Demian Lerner as the Authors suggests to me that Bitmain bought the rights to it (for in China). Hmm. The Plot thickens. Wink
Filed Nov 19, 2014
What you found is Timo & Sergio original patent. Not Bitmain's patent.
The important date is the priority date: Nov 19, 2013
The date the provisional patent was filed.

To be clear are you saying it's the pools job to signal?
Yes? It's a combination of giving those miners who want to signal the option to do so, and as a way to represent the remainder that have no opinion on the matter. Basically I'm saying a pool should either give miners a choice, or have a position.

Pools are the miners' voice and the miners are the only ones who can reliably activate substantial change. People want to either choose a pool based on what it's signalling or want the pool they're already loyal to to give them the option of signalling what they want. The fact that there are lots of miners that choose pools only due to profit doesn't change the fact that pools are the ones with the actual power to effect change. Pools should be proactive and ahead of what is happening in the bitcoin development space even if the miners are less inclined to be so.

Lack of more concrete messages from the pools is the reason garbage like User Activated Soft Fork and much worse, change of PoW are being bantered around. I understand there is potentially conflict since you're representing bitmain who have a (very unpopular) position of sorts, but you have said you're an independent entity.
What about miners that want to actively abstain from choosing a side in this scaling war?
Those miners can choose this pool as a way to signal their discontent from the scaling war and both sides.

We're excited to announce the launch of ConnectBTC.com
The first pool developed by Bitmain's R&Dcenter in Israel.

ConnectBTC pool is developed and operated by Bitmaintech Israel, Bitmain’s first R&D center outside of China, working to innovate pooled mining services, and deliver advanced capabilities to bitcoin mining operations of all sizes.

Being the newest product out of Bitmaintech Israel’s lab, the ConnectBTC pool puts the latest in pooled mining services directly in the hands of miners. ConnectBTC’s pool provides highly detailed real-time information and analytics to miners, and gives mining operators a better understanding of their performance, without having to develop custom internal monitoring tools.

Signup to enjoy:
  • 106% PPS
  • Real time information
  • Automated creation of workers, no limitation of number of workers
  • Downloadable excel sheets to keep track of historical data

Another exciting project from Israel.
Alon and team, good luck!
You deserve it. Amazing project.
152  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 20, 2017, 01:34:46 PM
I like the idea of a memory-hard (Equihash?) PoW.

Another option would be a PoW that's randomized every retargeting period to make it ASIC-proof. A block hash would be used as the source of randomness.

Not meaning to thread-crap, but Guy offered to help (he remains the most helpful person in the crypto community, btw). Thanks to the whole Spondoolies crew for building the SP30 and SP20. My impression has been that second-hand demand for them is still high, even today.

I run HashPlex, a mining company in WA. We're looking for an M&A partner to get to scale (we're sorta stuck at 1MW with 7+ on tap). Everything we've built was custom-designed and built from the ground up (no retrofit jankery) with top-shelf new equipment (SquareD I-Line, etc.). The evap system consumes 8000 gallons of water in 12 hours and drops intake temps 25F. 100A / phase, 3-phase, switched, fused, current logging PDUs. 650,000 CFM of filtered air per MW. Lots more.

If you're interested in scooping up a datacenter for pennies on the dollar or working out a long-term lease etc. get in touch. We'll probably close a deal in the next couple months.

Some mining pr0n to make things more fun:

Approved.

Bah!

Unmineable POS coin pump and dump.

That was my first impression too, but I believe that the proposed Spectre protocol for Bitcoin is completely different from the new cryptocurrency SPECTRE based on Shadowcash.
Correct. There is no relation between the two
