The odds for the Dice are claimed to be 150/300,000,000, which isn't too far off, so let's run with that, and simplify it to there being a 1:2,000,000 chance that you would solve a block and get BTC25, currently worth about BTC25 * £240/ BTC = £6,000 . Rather unlikely, and you're out the £108. Just on the face of it, 1:56.66 / 1:2,000,000 ~= 35,300 times a better deal to play the lotto to win something. On the other hand, that something is much greater for the Bitcoin lottery, and factoring that into the odds by plugging one into the other (£6,000 / £25 = 240), multiplying with the odds (1:2,000,000 * 240 = 1:8,3333), and then dividing (1:56.66 / 1:8,333), you'd find that playing the lotto is 'only' 147 times a better deal than playing the Bitcoin lottery with a Dice to win something. But that's messing with numbers that shouldn't be messed with as it's not a direct comparison. Let's instead compare that to the closest equivalent for the lotto - getting a 5-match four times (for prize money of £6,000); Winning it once: 1:55,491.33 Winning it four times: 1:221,965.32 1:221,965.32 / 1:2,000,000 ~= 9 times better to play the lotto if the goal is to win £6,000. honestly - calling solo bitcoin mining a 'lottery' is a bit silly. If you actually wanted to win, you would solo mine with the larger, more cost-effective hardware. You can have 11x the hashrate for about 7x the cost if you buy an SP20. the solo-mining lottery is really a way to sell overpriced, underpowered hardware to those who dont know better, or want a small collectible piece. -granted, if its your first time mining bitcoin, its probably a decent device for that. cheap and power efficient. however, any new miner who goes solo will surely be dissapointed greatly 6 months later when they have nothing, and realise they should have been on a pool from the start so that they would have at least made a fraction of a bitcoin, maybe enough to pay for the electricity used in that time period (probably $60-80 worth) Buy 2 devices, mine solo with the first, mine against a pool with the second. Thanks Guy, all is well ... SP20 arrived today ... and is hashing away. I expect it to take a couple of days to settle down, but seems happy at 1.67Ths right now. 6 months in the BTC space has seen great improvements (sorry to state the obvious) ... with the SP20 footprint at 1.7Ths being so much smaller than the original June SP10 at 1.4Ths, power consumption has of course also improved. MMkay, here's a question, are the driver documentation for cgminer/bfgminer going to be released to the respected software owners, or are you just going to fork your own spin of the software to work it the way you want it to?
also, 82 Euro / 101.50USD / 120.75AUD, Excluding shipping, for a 150GHs unit that would probably only do 100GHs pool side.. Wheres the Ausie resellers? Buy up 100 of them will ya?
and please tell me that you're not forcing people to use this for only your 1/20,000,000 (i did math right? didn't i?) chance game? i see it as an entry level miner, letting people decide what they do with it...
1/2,000,000 every 10 minutes. It's full miner, you can do solo mining without full node by configuring cgminer to use http://solo.ckpool.org/You need a PC or a wifi TP-Link router with special firmware attached via the USB port. |

Big thanks to Jtoomin for suggesting that I try the 1.5.10 firmware, I've been hashing for 12 hours now in -18 degree weather and the SP10 is running at a rock solid 1.4 thash, this is a slow corner May batch btw and it's never ran better. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will keep me hashing through the winter. Here's to hoping that SP20's hit the $400-$500 soon so I could justify buying a few to use up all my PSU's I have lying around from GPU and S1 mining days Post a picture. |

One marked shipped no tracking.
Received a confirmation Sponds email that a SP20 had shipped today, but unusually it said 'Being shipped via Other' and no shipping docs attached. All previous orders had quoted a DHL waybill number so I could track along with attached shipping docs ... now I can't track anything. (UPS works so much better in the UK).
