1541  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 29, 2021, 05:40:24 PM
I think Qatar is a horrible nation even without pandemic ever happening. There were two big scandals about this situation but not talked enough and people are not caring about it enough.

First one was the fact that Qatar bribed their way into being the world cup hosts, and that was a big thing back then, people were fired, there was investigation and it's really a big deal, if it is bribe related and any nation could just pay more that means we are not going to get decent picks from now on, it's just going to be hosted at whoever pays Uefa more and that's not something I would want to see.

Second one was Qatar getting literal slave labor to get their stadiums and things done on time, pandemic pushed it back a bit and world realized what they were doing but that didn't stopped them, who would go to Qatar and say "please do not use slaves"? They already know they are doing something wrong and they do not care about it. These two were problems even before pandemic and with the pandemic it became a bigger deal.

Well... I am going to agree with most of these points. But Qatar is a global economic super-power and therefore I don't think that any of the other countries are going to boycott the tournament. Thousands of workers/laborers died during the construction of the stadiums. But most of them were from third world nations such as India and Nepal. No one in the West really cares about the lives of these people. Most of the human rights organizations receive their funding from GCC nations such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia and they almost never indulge in criticism against these countries.
1542  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Joining OPEN] [IPL 2021] Prediction pool and discussion on: March 29, 2021, 05:28:07 PM
It is surprising to note that last year's champion (SaShiRaJaVu) hasn't joined the pool yet. Also there are a few other familiar names who haven't made their decision. I am surprised with the cold response. The entry fee was kept at a very low level, so I don't think that it was a factor. Hopefully things will change in the next few days and we'll be having a large number of participants before the tournament starts.
1543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Too many coin in circulation on: March 29, 2021, 05:12:44 PM
More the coins are in market makes more competition! I think its good to have too many coins in circulation.

I don't agree with this argument. Having thousands of shitcoins in the market, which doesn't have any real life usage is not beneficial for anyone. On the other hand, they cause a lot of harm when new users unaware of their details invest in them and lose their capital. IMO, the sooner these shitcoins die out and are removed from the exchanges, that much better will be it for the health of cryptocurrency as a whole. Let's not forget that many of these coins are associated with scams and Ponzis.
1544  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will ADA and eth competitors get dumped if/when Ethereum 2.0 comes out? on: March 29, 2021, 05:00:14 PM
I am hearing about this Ethereum 2.0 hype for more than two years. You guys need to stop beating the dead horse. ETH 2.0 to Ethereum is just like what Lightning Network is to Bitcoin. The idea may be good, but it will be very difficult to implement and only a very small number of people will end up using it. In short, it will be having hardly any impact on the ground situation. ADA and other alts will thrive in the next few years and at a point they will be strong enough to replace Ethereum from the #2 spot.
1545  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ African Cup Of Nations Cameron 2021 Qualifiers ⚽ on: March 29, 2021, 04:48:13 PM
I don't want to deviate from the topic, but the fact that South Africa failed to qualify for the main tournament is very disturbing. They used to be one of the strongest sides in Africa (at one time they had a world ranking of 16 as per FIFA). Is this a sign of South Africa losing significance in global sports? Because in cricket also they are going down. They won the 2019 Rugby world cup, so don't want to comment about it.
1546  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 29, 2021, 04:38:48 PM
You would expect Ukraine to beat Finland. Ukraine were 1.7x favorites to win the match but it ended up as a draw. This brings Group D to become contested amongst 3 teams while France being clear favs to win the group. The other teams vying for the final spot for qualification are Ukraine, Finland and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Bosnia and Finland drew a match before and now Finland drew again to Ukraine. The only advantage Ukraine have over the others is that they have played the favorites in France already and drew against them. So, the matches can only get easier from now on where as Bosnia and Finland are yet to play France.

Group D is perhaps one of the toughest in the UEFA qualifiers this time (the other being Group G). Let's not forget the fact that France had a shaky start to their campaign, as they conceded a draw against Ukraine. Their performance during the second match (against Kazakhstan) was also unimpressive, but they managed to get three points from that one. The tournament has just started and it is too early to make assumptions. But it is not going to be easy for France.
1547  Economy / Economics / Re: Did tesla's $1.5 billion bitcoin purchase negatively affect their stock price on: March 29, 2021, 12:35:48 PM
Yesterday, there was a tweet from John Pompliano (@JohnPompliano). It goes like this:

Quote
If you bought a Tesla Model S in 2012, your $77,000 car would be worth approximately $40,000 today.

If you had invested that same $77,000 in Tesla stock, you would have over $7 million today.

Invest your money instead of buying material things.

However, IMO he missed the most important factor. If someone had purchased Bitcoin worth $77,000 in 2012, then he/she would be having BTC worth $800 million right now. So which one is better? Investing in Tesla stock, or directly investing in Bitcoin? Statistics tells us that the latter option is better.
1548  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden planning first tax hike(major) since 1993 on: March 29, 2021, 12:16:05 PM
The difference between USA and in all other nations is that if you do not have a branch of government like IRS trying to catch every single tax evasion and charge insane punishments for it to deter people away from doing that. India may or may not have that, but I know almost all huge European nations do not have that.

On top of it, this is a thing that impacts very wealthy, they will have to pay a lot more taxes now that Biden puts this in charge (when) and that means IRS needs more money because the more money you give to IRS the more money they find and give back to community, so giving money to IRS is not a bad idea

Right now IRS is underfunded and needs more money, they may not find everyone and they may not end up stopping some rich people, but if they could actually get funded, and given more powers, they could stop everyone from tax evasion, from the small grocery store right around the corner to amazon, everyone.

Tax avoidance using various loopholes may be possible in the US, but tax evasion is very unlikely due to the above mentioned facts. In India, the income tax department is now mostly going after the big fish, so they may ignore the small-scale tax evaders even if they have enough data to prosecute them. Tax-related law suits can go on for many decades, due to the slowness of the legal system in India. In most cases, the tax authorities try to reach a compromise with the evaders. Only in 10-15% cases, they actually go ahead with the legal action.
1549  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 29, 2021, 12:05:45 PM
A long time ago, when it was Serbia and Montenegro, or before with Yugoslavia, then they had an impressive squad actually.

Are you talking about the 1998 FIFA World Cup? Back then they had an impressive squad and they performed really well. During the group stage, they managed to held Germany to a draw, with Dragan Stojković scoring one of the goals. And back then, they had a number of star players in addition to Stojković. Dejan Stanković was another player who put up an impressive performance during the world cup. However, Yugoslavia lost to Netherlands in the PQF.
1550  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 29, 2021, 11:54:45 AM
It takes time before we can see the obvious effect of the vaccine through the patients who already get themselves vaccinated. Before, we are waiting for the vaccine and now that we had it I think its safe to say that the virus has finally come to an end soon.

But here in our country it seems there's no improvement at all because the current number of infected each day are still drastically increasing. In fact we are in lockdown again for 1 week. Unity and cooperation of people are really needed to end this problem.

According to the vaccine manufacturers, the immunity from the vaccine will kick in completely only after a specific period from the intake of second dose of the vaccine. That said, it will be wrong to say that there is no impact from a single dose. According to various studies, an increase in the immunity can be noted from 15 days after the application of the first dose (although it won't be complete immunity).
1551  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 29, 2021, 11:38:49 AM
Before the UEFA qualifiers started, everyone thought that Spain is the strongest team from this region. However, their performance till now has been disappointing. First they were held to a draw by Greece and yesterday also Georgia took the lead before the half time, although the Spanish players scored two goals towards the end to get full three points from the match. Sweden is still dominating Group B, and the match between Sweden and Spain (2nd September) is going to be very interesting.
1552  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 28, 2021, 04:56:28 PM
Shit hits the fan (again)!!!

Georgia leading by 1-0 at half time, against Spain!!!!

Can anyone believe this? 20-year old Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a goal from an assist by Otar Kiteishvili. Spanish players don't know what to do. Previously Spain's match against Greece had ended in a draw. If this match also ends in a draw, or a win for Georgia, then the Spaniards will be in deep trouble. Sweden already have 3 points from their first match (they won against Georgia 1-0).

WTF is going on here? For Netherlands, shit hits the fan. Can you believe it? After 22 minutes of play, Turkey is leading Netherlands by 1-0. Burak Yılmaz scored the goal for Turkey, from an assist by Hakan Çalhanoğlu. Netherlands is in deep shit. Group G is never going to be easy, with Norway also competing for the top slot. If Turkey manages to win this match, then Netherlands would be in a lot of trouble.
1553  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 28, 2021, 02:33:09 PM
The match is essentially over by now. Liam Livingstone was England's last hope and he's also gone now. Whatever you say about India, one thing needs to be admitted. They always perform well during the decider matches. It doesn't matter whether it's a bilateral series or an ICC championship. They know how to win the crucial matches. BTW, Dawid Malan is also gone now.
1554  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 28, 2021, 01:50:07 PM
I think today will be an interesting match between Armenia and Iceland... The odds are good for both teams - 3.4/2.2... I bet on the victory of Iceland, they had the strongest opponents and in my opinion they should win today! Although the chances of the teams are about the same but Armenia played with the outsiders... I hope that Icelanders will break their losing streak today! Cheesy

It will be very difficult for either Armenia or Iceland to qualify, because they were placed in a very tough group along with Germany and Romania. BTW, France is leading by 2-0 against Kazakhstan at half-time. They need a win now after the draw against Ukraine. There are a few interesting matches today. Spain takes on Georgia after their draw against Greece. And the most crucial match of Group J is about to begin in a few hours (Romania vs Germany).
1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Investing on: March 28, 2021, 01:31:10 PM
Isn't that 1% too small? It should take about 30% to 50% of the portfolio in order to get a lot of profit. But keep in mind that it's already entering altcoin season, so whatever altcoins it seems to me now is the perfect time to buy and hodl.

Perhaps he is talking about the total investment portfolio, which may include real estate, treasury bonds, bank deposits, mutual funds and bullion. Out of this, cryptocurrency may perhaps comprise only 5% or 10% of the volume. And 1% here would mean almost one-fifth of the cryptocurrency portfolio. Given the volatility of the altcoins, I think this is the right amount. In my case, less than 5% of my cryptocurrency portfolio is comprised of altcoins.
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ethereum going to Die? on: March 28, 2021, 01:21:13 PM
Ethereum won't die but other coins already takeover. Binance smart chain has 45 times more volume than Ethereum network. Other coins also try to take Ethereum's places and Ethereum developers don't do anything about on-going problems.

It's not going to die anytime soon. Look at the market cap. The gap between Ethereum and the third largest cryptocurrency is so huge. But that doesn't mean that there is no meaningful competition to Ethereum right now. Competing chains are now poaching a lot of projects that would have otherwise gone to ERC-20. And the Ethereum developers only have themselves to blame. They are deaf to the issues faced by Ethereum users for the last 2-3 years. They don't really care about the users.
1557  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ African Cup Of Nations Cameron 2021 Qualifiers ⚽ on: March 28, 2021, 01:11:04 PM
Congratulations to Gambia on their first ever AFCON. Although, some argue that they only qualified because the number of participating teams was increased from 18 to 24. What do you think?
This pure unprofessional excuse, 18 teams, 24 teams does not matter, these guys were pure class and deserved qualification. They beat Kenya and Togo, drew with Egypt in the first leg, qualified with a game to spare yet people feel they don't deserve it because the teams were increased to 24 teams.. I don't buy it.

Agreed. They deserved the qualification. Most of the big tournaments are now increasing the number of teams and I believe that it is a step in the right direction. Football needs more diversity and the smaller nations need to be given a chance to compete against the top teams (not just in the qualifying tournaments, but also in the main championship). The number of participating teams have been increased even for the FIFA World Cup. From 2026 onward, there will be a total of 48 teams taking part, with most of the increase coming from AFC and CAF.
1558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Alt Coins to buy with 200$ on: March 28, 2021, 01:01:07 PM
You need to know what target you can want for buying altcoins. I can't predict the market with this situation, if you want to buy some Altcoins you can look at coin low cap on CoinMarketCap that has listed on Binance. Or you can search some project that want to do IDO on Polkastarter or Duck Starter, I'm sure you can get min 10x profits from those.

I don't understand this strategy. What is the need to look for low-market cap coins? If a coin looks promising, then you need to make your investment regardless of the market cap. Most of the altcoins with low market cap are shitcoins and they will vanish from the market in less than 12 months. Ultimately you will lose your capital. I would rather make investment in coins with good future potential such as Cardano or Binance Coin. Polkadot is another promising option out there. But these coins are not cheap.
1559  Economy / Economics / Re: 2021 not Looking good on: March 28, 2021, 12:51:35 PM
That's not the case because in 2020 there was so much lockdown and financial crisis all over the world. Now that the world is moving back to normal to some extent, the stocks, forex and crypto market is recovering. However the best returns will be in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Apart from the crash that lasted for a few weeks in April-May 2020, the stock market was mostly unaffected by the pandemic. Actually the stock market indices are higher now when compared to the pre-pandemic levels. Organized formal economy was not much harmed during the pandemic (apart from tourism, hospitality, restaurants.etc). It was the unorganized and informal sector which got hammered. People were doing most of their shopping and service bookings through online platforms and this destroyed the informal sector. And even when the pandemic is over, I don't think that informal economy will be able to grow back to the previous market share.
1560  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looks like India is perhaps serious about banning cryptocurrency on: March 28, 2021, 12:41:31 PM
I am an Indian resident and many of the users who have commented here also come from India. We are worried since our livelihood is under threat. Almost one-third of my monthly income comes in the form of cryptocurrency and if that is taken away then I will be in a very bad financial state. And there are millions like me in India who earn passive income in the form of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. For us, this is no laughing matter. It is a matter of life and death.
I am not from India but i heard that they were supposed to bring the crypto currency bill in the Indian parliament budget but they did not do so. This means that this matter is delayed for next few months. Is it so ?  If this is true then it is good for the Indians citizens and also for the bitcoin community.

Originally they were planning to introduce the bill during the budget session (8th March-8th April 2021), but now it looks as if they postponed it to the Monsoon session. But the intent is still there. Every now and then, the finance minister is issuing hostile statements against cryptocurrency and the RBI is also not behind in this regard. As of now, it is more like a temporary reprieve. We are hoping for a change of heart from the government, but it may be unrealistic to expect that.
