1561  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: June 10, 2015, 02:02:49 AM
@bitmain why did you enclose the S3 with a case and 2 fans and leave the S5 wide open with only one LOUD fan? this is terrible for airflow.....you could probably have used a less noisy fan if u enclosed it with a case like the S3.

You can make (or order) the case by yourself. Without it S5 became lighter, so the shipping is cheaper.

Heat dissipation is developed not so good in case of S5, so it needs a powerful (it inevitable means LOUD) fan. Sure they could sell S5 equiped with two less noisy fans (most of us make such mod), or they could sell S5 without fan at all. But we got what we got.

Recently I placed all S5 to the basement, so I installed a Gembird DC120SF-12AS3 120x120x38 fan as a push fan, and stock fan as a pull (on my new 2 S5s since stock fans on them are appearantly much quieter than it was before, on earlier S5s). It works OK now.  Smiley

BTW, what driver version is recommended for AMD and for NVidia GPUs?

But how to mine properly? No config, no intencity, no thread concurrency....  Undecided And you are lucky if GPU miner at least can start on your PC...

I guess the only way is by tweaking the .cl in the miner dir or using a modified miner. I use this one: http://pastebin.com/6ks9BQAp    280x -> 110 Mh/s

In my case the miner can't start using that .cl: "failed to start kernel: -52" Is there some manual how to tweak that file?

p.s I noticed that GPU utilization is higher (but still not full) when running 2 instances of the miner... Has someone try this?

Awesome, you should see around 100-110 MH+ if mining properly with a 290  Smiley

I have had the problem that the gpu-miner crashes every now and then so I made a short .bat to restart the miner every 20 minutes. Just save as .bat file with notepad and put it in you miner directory.

Code:
:loop
start sia-gpu-miner.exe
timeout /t 1200 >null
taskkill /f /im "sia-gpu-miner.exe" >nul
timeout /t 7 >null
goto loop

Thanx a lot! My miner also crashes after 10 or 20 minutes...
1569  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying S5 from Bitmain Batch on: June 08, 2015, 04:26:10 PM
Do you have an ebay link for these heatsinks / radiators? I would be interested in these. My S5s fans have their ar$es on fire since summer started.

It's a picture of S5 shipped by Bitmain (Sic!). I was expected my S5 will arrive with such radiators too...  Angry

Take dimensions of copper plates where you'll glue the radiators and dig the Internet - e-bay, AliExpress, Dealextreme....

p.s. I'll take care of it some day soon, you may just wait a day or two.  Wink

Got myself AntMiner S5 a month ago. After a month of playing with it and some 3D printing this is what my small rig currently looks like (just ordered the second S5)
You should know that shipping price of each S5 is lower if you order 2 units at once...

Still getting this:

Code:
D:\Distrib\Siacoin\sia-gpu-miner-win64>sia_gpu-miner
failed to get Device IDs: -1

I also can't run it on Windows 10 x64 Insider Preview. "MSVCR120.dll is missing". I have installed Visual C++, MSVCR120.dll is present in system32. When I put it directly to miner's folder it closes with error 0xc000007b.

But I was able to start mining on my home Win7 x64 PC (with one R9 290 by Gigabyte).  Roll Eyes I'm with you at 64 Mh/s.

BTW, it seems that 2 Siacoin wallets in one LAN can't work normally - second can't sync while first is running...

If you have cleanup or fixes, please pull request them. We are trying to fix things but GPU code is outside of our wheelbase.

Win7 x64, latest sia wallet.

Two R9 290s are waiting for the possibility to take part in this sia orgy.  Smiley

The Beta

Sia is currently version 0.3.1. All of the current coins are testnet coins.
Using the current Sia interface, it is possible to upload, download, and share
files. It is also possible to mine blocks and send money to other people. Sia
is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows. Below are some screenshots.

Linux 64bit
Mac 64bit
Windows 64bit

Please modify those links. It offers 0.3.0 (win64), while 0.3.3 is available at siacoin.com.

You could try downloading the blockchain.bin from

http://getmonero.org/downloads/

that way you could test the theory regarding whether your blockchain.bin was corrupted.
Downloading the blockchain does not help.  Undecided
1577  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying S5 from Bitmain Batch on: June 07, 2015, 04:58:29 AM

Looking at geting ths Antminer S3 or S5.

Sure S5 is your choice.

To reduce the noise you can buy 2 less noisy fans. Many of people here prefer Delta fans, but you are not limited here with this vendor; you can compare a characteristics of Delta fans here to start - look for fans like AFB1212HHE-TP02, AFB1212VHEX01 (a little more noisy).

Also do not forget that S5 cooling probably need to be modified. New S5s sometimes content little radiators from "external" side of PCB, where the little copper plates are placed. These are the right place for BM1384 chips to dissipate heat from.

The plates marked with little red circles (the picture is not mine) are without radiators.

With such little radiators the hashing blade became cooler, so the controller reduces fan's speed, which lead to noise reduction. You are free choosing the radiators, but their base dimension should no exceed the dimension of that copper plate. For the safety reason.

It really works on Debian 8 Jessie@MATE, thanks. But what the....

Code:
root@debian-katya:~/cpuminer/cpuminer-multi# ./minerd --help
[2015-06-05 16:56:13] CPU does not have AES-NI, which is required.

How to compile it for non-AES system? I haven't found an instruction: https://github.com/wolf9466/cpuminer-multi/blob/master/README.md#architecture-specific-notes

Hello!
Quote
What was temp difference going from normal fan to that?

In Moscow it is now 20°. Indoor 35°.
Antminer 44°-47°
fan 240RPM

Well, S5 can work even without such perversions.  Wink

Are you OK with 35°C indoor?  Undecided
1580  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 05, 2015, 09:38:33 AM
they've felt no real need to increase density and take the W/GH lower

But what about global warming?.. How could you, Bitmain, ignore this?..  Undecided

I don't really care about it, but Bitmain, what about energy bills of your customers?
