1581  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP10 Ignites!!! on: March 02, 2015, 10:36:18 PM

Yeah I am phasing out miners with a draw north of 1000w, in my experience that is the threshold which leads to fire. I have had the lower wattage miners burn up, but never with a resulting flame. Shrink the mine down to 20TH and hold, expansion with current return and specs on gen 3 just does not make sense.

not sure how thats really the problem - power density is a greater issue than overall power. SP3x draws >2800W but is extremely reliable. KNC draws 300W/box and caused dozens of fires (generally all related to wiring though)

was the SP10 running at full specs still (1200W/1400GH) or was it undervolted (770W/1000GH)
Please, don't be smart (or informative) in front of him. He really hates that.

I'll GTH...but when you suffer the consequences of misplaced "ideas" i'll keep your seat nice and warm. LOL. Some never learn.

What on Earth are you saying? How do you even know one thing about my preparedness?

When we're talking about fire, is it safe to assume that this one self extinguished?

Negative, had to pull from rack and extinguish with wet towel. Did not want to over react and kill the room.
Mom says: You look prettier when you don't say too much.

(I am really joking, but thanks for saying too much)

You could also do what AbuGarcia says, but those are pretty expensive alternatives. And consider you might not be there when it happens next time. Might want to look into a kit triggered by smoke. One integrated with a breaker box. (Halon has it's problems.)

Sounds like your mom gives good advice you should take it.

Yes problem with Halon bomb is it shit cans the rest of the GOOD equipment. If these guys like AM are planning to shove 5KW thru a board I would have to say NO THANKS!

S1, S3 are solid had several pop but never ignite.

S5 same low power unit as S1-S3, SP20 being smaller but using the same power as SP10 leaves me a bit worried.
If you do your homework on Halon and it's various alternatives, you can apply "an equipment safe" alternative to water. (hence why I mentioned the (general kit) with a breaker function.)

Halon does not always entail damage to Good equipment. If you design things properly you can avoid that without too much trouble.
Don't take my word for it, just read.

----------------

On the S1 through S3, these are subjective opinions. You are putting yourself in an area of misplaced confidence. It will eventually happen even in the best of situations.

If you lul yourself into a false sense of manufacturer superiority then you'll pay for it big time when your time comes.

Thanks Mom..

LOL You have an amazing ability to remote view my mind and my data room, WOW!

I did not say Thx GOD, because I was afraid something was going to destroy my place. Even it I had let her burn at best it would have caused the building to stink. But hey thx for the free anal-lysis it was really helpful.

Sometimes stating the obvious is necessary.
Try not to make a fool of yourself.
1586  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP10 Ignites!!! on: March 02, 2015, 01:38:20 AM

LOL even the peanut gallery?? S.A.D
Ok, so you want to play the part of being an intelligent human being? I got you covered.

First, [all!] Electronics fail.
Yes, even medical grade electronics that are critical for sustaining a life. (redundant electronics necessary)

Second, you seem "surprised" because an SP10 caught fire, you therefore seem to consider it an issue of quality.
You also stated "you were lucky" because you were there to pull the plug. (?) <--

I am guessing you aren't properly hosting said device to be worried about burning down the place where you host them.
Not taking appropriate precautions is the bigger issue to keep in mind.

---------------------

Next, I see your SP10 did fail, (like all electronics from all manufacturers eventually will).
The question is, how often do these fail when operated properly.
I don't recall seeing many SP10's failing in this board. So I assume they are safe enough.
But don't take that as a sense of false relief, instead be prepared for when they do fail.

You stated you have ~40 some Ant miners. I am guessing you haven't set those up either in case of a fire in one unit.
Again, you don't sound like you are prepared for that eventuality.

Recommendation --> STOP overreacting.
There are no hardware from all these manufacturers that are not liable to catch fire.
Avoid the ones from manufacturers that consistently do have known issues.

When they do catch fire, have a plan in place.
If you don't, you might have one ANT catch fire and take out the entire [ANT farm]/lot.
It is ten times better if you had a plan for when you aren't there to watch for a fire.

Thank you for reporting the issue with an SP10, but it sounds like you have alot more serious issues than just one box that recently caught fire.
1587  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP10 Ignites!!! on: March 02, 2015, 01:22:31 AM
there goes buying a SP31

"i'm not buying GEN2 because GEN1 had an issue"

like...

"i'm not eating steak because the chicken is bad"

 Cheesy

LOL Raskul, I am not buying it because they are over priced, which was "excused" because they were a "better" built piece of hardware. I NO longer believe that and in fact I would say these POS are REALLY EXPENSIVE AM Tube dangerous.

So anyone from SP-T see the problem?  This machine was running in a Rack with 29c intake temps, on 220v power.

Looks like a suspicious link:

Most likely an attempt to discover IP's.

Now now, keep your fedora on and calm down. A question was asked and I answered it.
Actually, as the OP said, you didn't.

You posted an older model. I request that you remove your off-topic posts. Thanks.

As the OP didn't say, the Avalon 4.0 and 4.1 are identical externally, apart from one is coloured black.
Please, nicely, remove your response(s), it did not fulfill the request.

1591  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Responses to Black Arrow LTD on: January 28, 2015, 06:37:44 AM
November 26, 2014

Alexey:

I am in receipt of your response email dated Thursday, November 20, 2014 where in lieu of a refund, BlackArrow Ltd offers, for a potential fee, to test this pre-used and non-functional hardware, requests that I pay for the hefty shipping, and requires, as a condition to proceeding, that I agree to certain terms and conditions limiting BlackArrow Ltd’s financial liability.

BlackArrow Ltd solicited and received a total of $12,126.30 USD from me for orders #---- & #---- placed October and December of 2013.  In doing so, BlackArrow Ltd created a commercial obligation that cannot be set aside by delivering used and defective hardware or by imposing arbitrary terms and conditions.  Furthermore, it is inappropriate for your firm to require I spend additional money as incentive for BlackArrow Ltd. to satisfy that commercial obligation or require that I agree to further limit BlackArrow’s liability.

BlackArrow Ltd repeatedly delayed fulfillment of its commercial obligation where time is the essence of the hardware in question.  After many such delays, BlackArrow Ltd communicated further issues with power supplies on September 8th.  Because time is of the essence, I contacted BlackArrow Ltd and requested delivery without power supplies;  this is a logical extension of the offer BlackArrow Ltd made to provide additional future compensation for delays in the form of additional hardware without power supplies.   BlackArrow rejected this request and instead offered to ship hardware immediately as evidenced by an email shipping notification originating from BlackArrow Ltd and a DHL tracking number ---------- dated September 23, 2014.  After a month of additional communications, multiple confirmations from DHL that they received no hardware to ship, and finally an ultimatum from me to fulfill the obligation or provide a refund, BlackArrow shipped hardware on October 24th as evidenced by DHL tracking number ----------.
Look at the balls the size of Kansas on this seller!
1592  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: spondoolies price drop How will bitmain respond? on: January 16, 2015, 04:30:14 PM
@ Bitmain

You may want to consider selling accessories to your customers.

Something like a baffle box is a useful (reusable) item that can help with the noise.

Also, your website suffers from badly drawn (shifting) data points.

A good example of what I mean are illustrated in the first 5 minutes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEI2Rtm4Ad4
If switch from high interval to low interval, the point will be inaccurate. Because the date of the point is not accurate. For example, the time will be round to 00:00 in 1d interval. In the same interval, the points should not be moved.
That makes sense, the only problem with this is...that you can't go back more than 900 periods at your chosen (lessor) interval. Therefore, making any line you draw (at a larger interval with a larger sampling) wildly inaccurate at a smaller time frame.

I understand it is a problem that you can't overcome with the current system, but it seems to be a real limitation.

I guess the only solution possible is the advent of readjusting the line at a smaller interval to match the actual data point in a smaller time frame. Since you are working on the next revision of bitcoinwisdom it seems that it would not be worthwhile to work on this in the older version.

I just hope the next system has some kind of compensation for this flaw. Because ultimately you can't be sure where the line actually should be at a higher frequency of samplings.

==================

Any idea if you could ever implement a Gann line system like the link above? Since you mentioned the line tool is actually lots of smaller lines I thought perhaps this might not be so difficult.
1594  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BitcoinWisdom.com - Live Bitcoin/LiteCoin Charts on: January 13, 2015, 06:06:51 PM
@ BitcoinWisdom

Why are the lines tool now producing lines that are not straight? It really makes things very complicated to figure out.

The site omitted empty candles before. The line is combined with many short lines to make the line and the time matched.
It looks some candles missed unexpected, is the line still straight or not after page refresh? and is the date continuous?
A refresh as you stated appears to have fixed this issue.

1597  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A sucker born every minute on ebay on: January 04, 2015, 06:20:48 AM
I find it completely ridiculous that people are still buying Antminer U1's and U2 for about $10 to $15 each on Ebay.
$10 for a miner that does 2GH/s.  At today's difficulty (if it doesn't increase again), they can stand to make about 5 cents in a year! LOL

Here's a link that show the U1's and U2's that have been sold on ebay recently:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=antminer+u1&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

well some people get free ebay money in the form of ebucks and they can buy a few sticks and attach them to a pc at work that gets free power .

So cost is zero.  at zero cost why not.
There is no such thing as free power in your context. That is called theft and misappropriation of employer resources.

Thanks but I want to know "for sure" as it is one of the least talked about functions (at least to my knowledge).

I used to mine alt coins on an Avalon. While the first firmware revisions made it incredibly hazardous to the machines health. (Fans would clock to the absolute minimum and the machine would have a runaway heat escapade.)

The eventual revisions of firmware made it (relatively stable).

I want to check in and see if the latest hardware like the S3, S4 and S5 plays well with alt coin pools without having any calamities. (based only on SHA256)

P.S. I am going to make a thread soon to list the (relatively recent) hardware that supports this specific feature. Mostly so that HW manufactures take it into account or at the very least warn their users that it might end up in a meltdown due to newly discovered bugs.

Miner Experience Revolution – Manage your miner with ease
  • Miner status monitoring
  • Pool configuration modification
  • Firmware upgrade
  • Share administrative privilege over the web

Can the S-5 hash any alt coin that are based on SHA256? (on Alt Coin Pools)
Does the internal or controller software allow it?

(Is it capable?)

Will Spoondolies be sending the hardware direct to customers or will you be rerouting the hardware and reship it to it's final destination?
