1581  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator help my bitcointalk account have been hacked on: January 24, 2023, 02:11:22 PM
If this is the most accepted and verifiable way to claim ownership of account, how is it done? A link or thread will help as a guide. Thank you.
Stake your Bitcoin address here, so that you can use that for recovering your account in the case your account is hacked or you lose access to that for any reason.

Below is the guide on how you can sign a message.
How to sign a message?!

@Piesel Alt
I can't verify your message. What software do you use for signing message?
1582  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator help my bitcointalk account have been hacked on: January 23, 2023, 10:56:31 PM
Do you mean an account can be hacked using the secret questions and the process gets terminated on the way, due to some inaccuracies?
Due to the database leakage in the 2015 hack, theymos doesn't allow people to reset their password via answering the secret question.
For more information about this, you could visit the topic I already shared.

how's the OP gonna get 'em back after every claims that he's rightfully the owner of the account ??-- (remember, that's after when the hacker had changed the passcode already?)? This is only possible if the forum has access to people's personal data, Which is curruptible in my opinion...or is there an alternative?
One way to prove your ownership of your account is to sign a message from an address which you have posted before in the forum and is obviously yours.
The recovery team surely has some other criteria to verify the claims. For example, they can check IP logs.
1583  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Basefex fraud, cannot take fund out on: January 23, 2023, 09:58:35 PM
I followed up on the chats by asking them whether they can verify my identity or paying a smaller amount of deposit. And they did not respond anything
Any service asking you to make a deposit to be able to make a withdrawal is a scam.
With asking them to allow you to deposit smaller amount, you are actually trying to decrease the amount of the money they will steal from you. Whatever amount you deposit, you will lose all that.
1584  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator help my bitcointalk account have been hacked on: January 23, 2023, 09:40:59 PM
How is that possible for a hacker to have full control over your btt account as same time with your mail.
It's possible that the hacker gain access to the email and then used the email address to access the bitcointalk account.
If you check the seclog, you will see that Piesel's password has been reset via email.

1585  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A crypto fixed-deposit wallet. on: January 23, 2023, 09:14:07 PM
Thank you o_e_l_e_o for your great explanation.

But there is no address at all. Am I right? Because the fund is sent to public key, not public key hash.
The funds are sent to a P2SH output, which in this case contains a P2PK locking script with the additional time lock as I explained above.
My point was that the term "Time Locked Address" is a bit misleading. Isn't it?
For example, if you make such a transaction and I import the address derived from the public key into electrum, I won't see any transaction.

But the table is reporting a different thing altogether, table is reporting that the buyer can only start earning 4 wheel of fortune spins per day after holding FUN token for 360 days which is 1 year..
You are right. Advertisements are usually exaggerated.
If you buy 2500 FUN tokens, you will get only 1 free spin in the day 1. For getting 4 free spins, you have to hold your tokens for 360 days.
The statement should be "Hold 2500 FUN tokens for 360 days to get 4 FREE WOF" or "Buy 2500 FUN tokens to get up to 4 FREE WOF", to be more accurate.
1587  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A crypto fixed-deposit wallet. on: January 23, 2023, 08:47:12 PM
With using locktime feature, you can make a transaction which can't be mined until a certain time/block number. But it doesn't prevent you from spending the fund earlier.
This is different to what is being offered by Coinb.in as quoted by Plaguedeath. It utilizes the OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY OP code in the redeem script, rather than the nLockTime field in the transaction data itself.
I thought that's the LockTime which you can set for a transaction, so it can't be mined before reaching a certain block/number. I didn't notice that's Time Locked Address.
But there is no address at all. Am I right? Because the fund is sent to public key, not public key hash.
1588  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator help my bitcointalk account have been hacked on: January 23, 2023, 05:37:03 PM
Note: the hacker have access to my email and my secrete question is saved in my draft on the email.
The good news is that using the secret question caused the account to be locked and the hacker can't use it now.
You should contact the recovery team. The link to the instruction was shared by _BlackStar above.
You will get access to your account if you can prove that you are the owner of that account.

By the way, I can't verify the message you signed.
1589  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A crypto fixed-deposit wallet. on: January 23, 2023, 05:10:08 PM
With using locktime feature, you can make a transaction which can't be mined until a certain time/block number. But it doesn't prevent you from spending the fund earlier.
As long as you have the private key, you can spend the fund at any time you want.

If you want to lock the fund, so that there is no way to spend that until a certain time, you must make a transaction with a locktime to a new address. You must keep the raw transaction safely, because you will need to broadcast that in the future.
You also need to destroy any backup you have of the private key of the address which holds the fund now and keep the private key of the new address safely.

Warning:
Don't do this if you don't know what exactly you are doing.
1590  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator help my bitcointalk account have been hacked on: January 23, 2023, 04:37:57 PM
I just see that your account is currently banned.
Banned? Or locked?
The account should be locked, since the user tried to reset the password via secret question.

From Security log:

There are several possibilities why your account is currently locked, first; You failed to reset password via secret question. Even if you have done it 2 times on the same day, but I think it has locked you in when you do another failed attempt.
Your account is automatically locked if you try to reset your password via secret question. That happens even if you answer the secret question correctly.

1591  Bitcoin / Electrum / Arguments on make_seed command on: January 22, 2023, 09:34:39 PM
When you create a seed phrase using make_seed command on electrum console, there are three arguments.
The first one determines the number of bits and the third one determines the seed type. The seed type can be either standard, segwit or 2FA.

For example, make_seed(256,"","standard") creates a 24 word legacy seed phrase or make_seed(128,"","segwit") creates a 12 word segwit seed phrase.

Whatever I enter as the second argument, it works and it doesn't change anything.
For example, make_seed(128, "ggsd^gsf*") creates a 12 word segwit seed phrase or make_seed(128,"qojnfsyr6/7","standard") creates a 12 word legacy seed phrase.

What's the second argument?
1592  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where did it all go wrong on: January 22, 2023, 06:47:15 PM
but unfortunately, I broke the news that this person is a scammer..
You did the right thing.

What do you guys think? I am getting this vibe that maybe the first hack was done by the same person or the same organization?
That's possible.
It's also possible that the scammers sell the list of their victims to other scammers. That's one of the reasons people should avoid KYC.
1593  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet, Latest PC version 23.1.2. Bug or issue with my device? on: January 22, 2023, 05:44:29 PM
it works perfectly with other applications
Any chance Exodus doesn't have permission to access your camera?
You may need to go to your OS settings and turn on camera access for Exodus.

1595  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trying to steal our Bitcoin or simply hatred for Bitcoin? on: January 21, 2023, 05:42:50 PM
As for the maximum supply, I know that it would not change, the moment it changes is the moment that people would begin to lose so much trust in the coin.
Bitcoin total supply won't exceed 21 million BTC, because that's how bitcoin has been coded.
It's not that the total supply won't exceed 21 million BTC, because people will lose their trust if that happens.
1596  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Are hardware wallets really safe? And so is Bip39? Opinions about Ledger? on: January 21, 2023, 05:19:05 PM
1. So with Ledger, for instance, it’s a “24-word recovery phrase.” I was wondering when and how the recovery phrase was determined on a Ledger device for example? It’s not possible that the company itself knows it before they deliver it with DHL? I’ve heard the best way to buy a Ledger is from the company itself, because Amazon/eBay Ledgers could be compromised.
Ledger hardware wallet should be safe enough, but if you want be completely sure about your safety, you can go for an open-source hardware wallet like Trezor.
Click the link below and visit the the topic created by dkbit98.
[ list] Open Source Hardware Wallets

2. Just these 24 words in the right order are pretty much secure and it’s like a “count all the atoms on planet Earth” thing so it’s impossible that somebody else uses the same phrase or finds out about it? I’m not the smartest guy in town, but there are no brute force attacks possible by combining 24 words from this BIP39 list? https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt
Right. Even a 12 word seed phrase is secure enough.

3. The 24-word recovery phrase in universally compatible (whether other hardware wallets, software etc), so if a thief knows my recovery phrase, he can also use it with Electrum obviously?
Yes. Most wallets use the BIP39 standard.
Just note that electrum generates the seed phrase using its own algorithm, but it supports importing BIP39 seed phrases.

4. And this 24-word recovery phrase is able to generate thousands of public/private keys,
Your seed phrase can generate numerous addresses.

so if I have a Bitcoin savings plan like 0.1 Bitcoin every month (so sending it from Coinbase/Binance to the hardware wallet), nobody would find out about the real balance since it’s spread out over many addresses?
Right. With using a new address for every transaction, you can protect your privacy.
Note that the addresses will be linked together if you spend all your fund in a single a transaction.

8. If I have everything setup with Ledger Live or Electrum, can I have a watch only wallet just for transferring my Bitcoin from Binance/Coinbase with a new public address even if I chose do destroy my Ledger device after 1 week for additional safety? As far as I understand, it’s only about the initial setup and as soon as have my 24-word seed phrase, I only have to care about storing that phrase like 50 feet underground. As I said earlier, I only want to receive Bitcoin, not spend them. Hodl so to speak.
Right. You can use your master public key to create a watch-only wallet. It will give you the same addresses.
You will need your seed phrase only for spending the fund.

10. As far as my understanding goes, there are only 2 ways to “hack” (not the right word of course) a Ledger device:  1. someone knows 24 word seed or 2. Ledger device and someone knows pin code. That’s correct?
I have never heard of any vulnerability in ledger hardware wallets, but I would use an open-source hardware wallet.

11. If anyone has other good recommendations for a good hardware wallet, I would like to hear it. Maybe less controversial than Ledger although they still seem to be pretty popular, even after the data breach.
I think the topic created by dkbit98 (which I shared its link above) should be helpful to you.
1597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin about 20 years and is offline paper wallet (Bitaddress) secure? on: January 20, 2023, 08:13:16 PM
This seems somewhat terrifying if we consider that this hypothesis is possible if a paper wallet is used with a single address and key. This brings us to the conclusion that using this method of storage is very dangerous without the user having the necessary technical knowledge.
As I already said, there shouldn't be any problem since your wallet should send back the remaining balance to you.
What I said about not specifying the change address when making the raw transaction applies to any transaction, not only spending from a paper wallet.
1598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how long does transaction take on: January 20, 2023, 10:01:38 AM
fuck i hate bitcoin, every other crypto does transactions in second, but this shithole coin take 10$ fees if you want trasaction confirmed same time. Fuck this nigger coin, last time im using this shit
You paid only $0.03 worth of bitcoin for your transaction.
If you had set the fee rate to 3 sat/vbyte, your transaction would have been confirmed with less than $0.1 worth of bitcoin by now.

You can get the first confirmation in many altcoins transactions much faster. But they need much more confirmations to be considered as final.

What wallet did you use? Are you the sender or the receiver?
As mentioned by LoyceV above, you may be able to accelerate the transaction using RBF or CPFP.

Does anyone know if I will get a notification if someone edits their reply while I writing?
No. You don't get notification for that.
You get notification only if someone makes a new reply while you are posting.

I didn't edit my post when you were posting.
If you hover your mouse pointer over my post time, you see that the last edit has been made on 7:34 PM. You made your post around 3 hours later.

I wonder why I repeated @hosseinimr93 code even though I remember that no one wrote it before.
Maybe, you had me on your ignore list.  Grin Grin Grin
1600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on: January 19, 2023, 08:08:14 PM
You don’t create new bitcoin when you mine it. There is a definite number of bitcoin, so when someone mines bitcoin, new bitcoins is added to the ones already in circulation.
The block reward consists of newly generated coins and transaction fees.
The transaction fees have been already in the circulation, but the generated coins have been never in the circulation. Currently, 6.25 BTC is generated in each block and it will decrease to 3.25 3.125 BTC after the next halving.
