1601  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum version 1.7 is unable to sync with the blockchain. on: January 19, 2023, 02:50:43 PM
So confused i couldn't find some files like electrum.dat
It seems that you do have the wallet file. In the screenshot you shared from the new version of electrum you have around 0.55 BTC.

Note: i had tried loading the old wallet on new version but it not working i kept on receiving invalid wallet. Nothing is working out for me here.
So, you get error when trying to open the wallet using the new version and it doesn't allow you to do anyhting. Right?
What happens when you try to open the wallet with the old version (1.7)? Do you get error again? Doesn't it allow you export the seed phrase/private keys?
1602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin about 20 years and is offline paper wallet (Bitaddress) secure? on: January 19, 2023, 02:01:29 PM
2. Generate 50x offline wallets without BIP38 to make things not even more complicated
As I said in my previous posts, it would be better to generate a HD wallet with a seed phrase.
The seed phrase is a series of words that can generate numourous private keys. In this way, you don't need to keep 50 private keys. All you need is your seed phrase.

6. Transfer all 0.5 Bitcoin to these 50x offline wallets
Why are going to do that? To increase you security?
A single address is enough, unless you want to have multiple addresses due to privacy reasons.
Take note that to do so, you will have to spend some fee for splitting the fund. You will also have to pay more transaction fee when spending the 0.5 BTC.

I'm concerned about Bitaddress.org because someone also said in another Reddit thread:
That's right. I wouldn't use Bitaddress for generating wallet.
Use electrum. It's open-source and compeltety secure, if it's used properly.
In electrum, you can generate a HD wallet and you will have a seed phrase which can be used for deriving all the private keys and address. You will also have the opion to export individual private keys.
1603  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Exodus wallet, Latest PC version 23.1.12. Bug or issue with my device? on: January 19, 2023, 01:46:48 PM
It may be strange, but sometimes the problem maybe related to the connection, have you checked that the wallet is connected and synchronized?
This can't be the problem.
To see how it works, I just installed the latest version of Exodus. The camera works without any problem and there is no need to sync the wallet. That should work even without internet connection.
1604  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum version 1.7 is unable to sync with the blockchain. on: January 19, 2023, 01:15:44 PM
But I have one concern, the error that you get doesn't point to a valid ".cmd" file plus you said that it's v1.7 while the screenshot doesn't look like that version.
Maybe, OP has opened the old file that has been created with the version 1.7 with a new version of electrum and got that error due to some incompatibility between the versions. Is this possible?
If that's the case, the problem should be solved if OP creates a new wallet with importing the seed phrase/private keys.
1605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin about 20 years and is offline paper wallet (Bitaddress) secure? on: January 19, 2023, 12:53:10 PM
Since I have a long-term view, I don’t know about hardware wallets whether they are compatible with my PC in 2040 or so. And then I would be paranoid enough to buy 10 hardware wallets in my case.
The hardware wallet should give you a seed phrase (a series of 12/24 words) that can be used for recovering your wallet at any time. All your private keys can be derived from the seed phrase and as long as you have the seed phrase, there's nothing to worry about. As far as I know, most of hardware wallets should give you a BIP39 seed phrase.

Paper wallets will always exist, but I don’t know about their safety, even with just 0.5 Bitcoin distributed over 50x paper wallets and 50 feet underground (what I would like to do.)
If you want to have 50 bitcoin addresses, go for a HD wallet with a seed phrase. In this case, instead of keeping 50 different private keys, all you need to keep is a seed phrase. That would be much easier.
Also note that with using 50 addresses for holding the fund instead of using a single address, you will have to pay more fee.
If you generate the private key/seed phrase using a safe tool on an airgapped device, your fund would be safe. I recommend you to use electrum.
1606  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what are the disadvantages of paper wallet on: January 19, 2023, 08:36:26 AM
Strange, am I the only newbie that started her crypto journey using paper wallet? The first wallets I created for BTC and LTC are paper wallets, later when I decided to move into altcoins I still went for altcoins that uses paper wallet, Electroneum was on of those altcoin back then, I just find paper wallet to be easier to use.
How did you create those paper wallets? I doubt you created them properly.
A paper wallet should be generated on an airgapped device and the keys should never connect to the internet. Is this how you generated your paper wallets?

Just because you have your private key on a paper doesn't mean you have a paper wallet.
1607  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum version 1.7 is unable to sync with the blockchain. on: January 18, 2023, 08:32:50 PM
But the point is that the wallet is not functioning at all. Saying error attempted while trying to sync with the blockchain, try manually running resync.cmd “
https://ibb.co/K7fLQcC
As I see in the screenshot you shared, you have created a wallet in a new version of electrum.
How did you create this wallet? Did you use the seed phrase/private keys or you simply opened the old file with the new version of electrum?

Do you get error in both old and new versions of electrum?
1608  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum version 1.7 is unable to sync with the blockchain. on: January 18, 2023, 06:32:38 PM
Plus, I've also read that Electrum has change it seed types from 2.0 onwards, hence I guess that you'll need to recover private keys, not seed.
The old seed phrases can be imported into new versions of electrum.
Take a look at the image below. It has been taken from the version 4.3.2.

To OP:
I just download the portable version of electrum 1.8 to see how it works. (The version 1.7 isn't available on the official website.)
In the version 1.8, to see your seed phrase, you should click on "Wallet" at top of the window and after that select "Show" and then "Seed". Most probably, the seed phrase can be seen in the version 1.7 of electrum in the same way.

I recommend you to export your seed phrase and your private keys and save a new copy of the wallet file. After that, install the latest version of electrum.
1609  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: A problem occurred when attempting to sync with the blockchain. Try manually run on: January 18, 2023, 01:36:44 PM
The solution is simple. Update electrum to the latest version. Very old versions of electrum cannot sync.

Warning:
Download electrum only from its official website and do not forget to verify your download.

Edit:
Follow the suggestion given by LoyceV below before doing anything else.
I don't know how the version 1.7 works. You can also check if it's possible to export your seed phrase. (Note that if you have imported any private key into your wallet, they are not backed up by your seed phrase.)
1610  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Seed phrase security (post-quantum) on: January 18, 2023, 10:44:20 AM
Take note that any bitcoin private key provides 128 bits of security and with increasing number of words in your seed phrase to more than 12, you don't increase your security.
Instead of trying to brute-force your seed phrase, the attacker can try brute-forcing the private key which provides the same security as a 12 word BIP39 seed phrase.
1611  Other / Meta / Re: My post remove without notification. on: January 18, 2023, 09:22:09 AM
Are you talking about this plagiarised thread created by you?
As I see in the archived version of that post on loyce.club, OP had added a link to the source. So, it shouldn't be considered as plagiarism. The user would be banned, if that post had been deleted due to plagiarism. That topic was deleted probably due to being a low-value post.
1612  Other / Meta / Re: My post remove without notification. on: January 18, 2023, 09:04:55 AM
If you didn't get any notification for the post that was deleted, it means that moderators didn't delete your post directly. They deleted the topic you posted it and that caused all the posts made in that thread to be removed.
As far as I know, you also don't get any notification if your topic is moved to trashcan.

The only way that I think that you can remove this restriction you need to become a Jr. member above or I don't think copper membership can remove the restriction
A newbie with copper membership is able to send personal message to any user even if the receiver doesn't want to receive message from newbies.
Read the topic made by The Sceptical Chymist.

1614  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Iancoleman users I want answers on: January 18, 2023, 08:21:06 AM
Note: The website won't work if you just save the page using your browser and Ctrl-S.
It works. I just tried it. If you save the webpage, then you can open it with your browser on an offline device and use the tool without being connected to the internet.
Of course, it should be better to download the source code and run the tool on an airgapped device.
1615  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please help ... on: January 17, 2023, 10:52:08 PM
I'm trying to reach Vladimir - but he doesn't accept posts from newbies.
Vladimir? Is this the user you wanted to send message to?
If so, take note that he/she was last active in 2014 and even if you could message him/her, it would be very unlikely to get a response.
1616  Other / Meta / Re: Why the forum keep deleting my old posts? on: January 17, 2023, 08:26:30 PM
I was looking at the modlog and noticed that the first entry is from 2020.
That means it has a record of all posts deleted since that time. And is there a record behind it, or does it just keep the information for two years?
No. Modlog keeps the record of moderators acts (deleting posts/topics and banning users) in the past 7 days and any data older than 7 days is removed.
The post/topic you are referring to had been made in 2020 and was deleted sometime in the past 7 days.
1617  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sportsbet.io took my money on: January 17, 2023, 07:00:38 PM
Well thats what happened. I sent bitcoin during a backlog. My wallet sent it with a low fee and I sent it again after 4 hours of waiting for a confirmation.
So, you bumped transaction fee using RBF feature. Right?
When you bump the fee, the original transaction is replaced with a new one paying more transaction fee.
Sportsbet probably credited your balance once they saw your unconfirmed transaction. When you bumped the fee, that transaction became invalid and they thought that you are trying to cheat them.
Since the replacing transaction was made to sportsbet, you didn't cheat them. You should contact their support and explain this to them.

Maybe for increasing the transaction fee, your wallet decreased the output value and this caused the amount received by sportsbet to be lower than the amount they credited to your account.
Did you send exactly the same amount as the original transaction to sportsbet in your second transaction?
1618  Other / Meta / Re: Why the forum keep deleting my old posts? on: January 17, 2023, 03:13:47 PM
I just checked the modlog and I couldn't find your user ID there. This means that your posts were removed because the topics you posted in were removed.

and it's not uncommon to see newbies removing their topics after getting their answers
It's not possible to delete the topics at all. The topics can be deleted only be moderatos and admins.
1619  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Iancoleman users I want answers on: January 17, 2023, 03:05:25 PM
If that is really existing i think that's not safe because it will become visible to those people behind who created the website, where in surely they can get all your information easily as well.. So be aware!
This is not how Iancoleman  is currently working. Iancoleman is open-source and there is nothing hidden from the users. The website creator has no access to your input.
Of course, using the online version of Iancoleman is still unsafe and you should never enter your sensitive data on an online website.
1620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core - Create new reception address function unavailable on: January 17, 2023, 12:55:48 PM
- Your wallet must be fully synched with the bitcoin network
The wallet must be synced, so you can see your balance and make transaction. For generating a new address, you don't have to sync your wallet.

You should always use a new address for every transaction you are going to make for security purposes,
It's recommended to use new addresses due to privacy reasons. That's not for security purposes.
You can give the same address to hundreds of people and be completely safe.
