1641  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vircurex does not allow for ANY withdrawals at the moment. on: January 19, 2016, 02:16:02 PM
I believe so, but unfortunately the new wave of users they gained during the 2014 scramble into crypto saw them able to get a new round of traders who were unaware of their history or figured they were a legit operation because they had absorbed the first loss. For Vircurex to recover now would require a huge volume of trading to be taking place daily and nobody is likely to be that naive as to consider it a worthwhile platform to trade on anymore.

So they have a history of being hacked when the wallets are full or what? Roll Eyes How convenient.

One should ask why they did not learn what a cold wallet is then.

And it is bad enough to know that kumala is completely anonymous, as far as i learned.
1642  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: January 19, 2016, 02:09:24 PM
why you're dumping for fiat instead of use bitcoin directly to buy stuff online at least?

Though it would mean the same for most shops that accept bitcoins and use payment providers. The coins are dumped instantly so that the merchant can receive fiat.

And unfortunately it is pretty risky holding bitcoins. They are an investment. If you don't need them then ok, but if you hold your life money in it then it is risky since you can't earn one month 1000$ in bitcoin and shortly after your earnings are only 850$ now anymore. You need to secure it.

It's with all investments the same and because of the volatility of bitcoin it matches there too. Don't hold too long on investments, even more when they drop constantly. Nothing good will come from being stubborn or from believing in a wonder.

If you don't need the value the bitcoins present then ok, you would not need to secure it and hope for better prices.
1643  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vircurex does not allow for ANY withdrawals at the moment. on: January 19, 2016, 11:17:44 AM
TBH nobody should be using Vircurex at all. When they froze all the BTC and LTC balances it was done on the basis that they concocted this absurd justification for allowing a top-down/bottom-up repayment structure, which essentially saw a handful of whales all able to withdraw their funds and a ton of dust accounts which had probably already been forgotten/abandoned, with the rest of the average traders losing all of their BTC and LTC.

After posting a series of entries on their site claiming to have repaid small amounts of coins back to some accounts they stopped in August of 2014 and have only just recently updated with another post claiming some more has been repaid, probably to convince people who might still be using the site that they're still viable.

http://vircurex.com/welcome/ann_reserved.html
Quote from: Vircurex Announcement page
Update 3rd January 2016
Payout to frozen accounts this month:
3.45 BTC
101.6 LTC
151,953.9 FTC
48,937 TRC

Total balances after the amounts have been distributed
BTC: 328 accounts with frozen amounts, total 1,666 BTC
FTC: 0 accounts with frozen amounts, total 0 FTC
LTC: 2162 accounts with frozen amounts, total 124,763 LTC
TRC: 39 accounts with frozen amounts, total 78,782 TRC

As you can see, the amounts being returned are clearly insufficient to make any real impact on the funds they owe.

Didn't know in detail that this happened. I guess they paid back the whales because they were the biggest threat to them of being sued. The small accounts would have not enough money to sue most probably.

And i wonder if the site makes enough profit or if the payback they did was all they could afford.

In 2013 they claimed nobody should worry since they will eat the loss. Was that another hack then?

Well, i can't find out. When i would chose a random point in the future then the next block after that point should be a half minute later, i think, too. At least when the blockchain reaches that point in time. So i can't figure it out. Tongue
1645  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vircurex does not allow for ANY withdrawals at the moment. on: January 19, 2016, 10:21:02 AM
The emails sending out the list of shareholders to the issuers daily are working but not the user emails that, for example, send out the confirmation links when a user wants to withdraw funds.

So the part of the platform that allows users to withdraw is no longer functioning? When it comes to trying to find out what is going on, I think you'll find you've already answered that question.

That refers to cryptostocks.com, which is owned by kumala, who owns vircurex too. And the email problem is only affecting some users who sat up the option of email confirmation for withdraws. I'm surprised i didn't make that setup but i'm happy since i could still withdraw because of that. At least when the exchange was online. It is not online now since some weeks again. This happened before a couple of times and kumala fixed it at least as far to make it online again. The email problem was not fixed though.

The good thing is that issuers can't pay out divs then too. So that the divs are not stuck on there.

But still, if vircurex is owned by the same you have to wonder what will happen with vircurex. Is kumala handling it the same way soon or what is the matter? I have read someone who withdrew his coins from vircurex now because he fears it is a problem that the same owner handles cryptostocks the way he does.

It's good that this thread became so old after his last answer but since there is no new thread yet...

The last 2 or 3 days i have bigger problems with the forum again. Alot 503 again and errors of not being able to create a secured connection.

Did the ddos-protection service change again or is there another explaination why the problems are worse now again?
It's normal ; Maybe overloading of the server is causing these problems/issues/troubles. You may've known that thousands/lakhs of users access this forum. I've same problem but it doesn't lasts long so it isn't a big problem/issue/trouble.(for me)

Last time, some months ago, it was the ddos protection theymos used. He then tested some others and it was better then. Now we have the problems again, so maybe he changed the provider or something different happened. I don't see why we now should have alot more users suddenly so that it could explain the problems. It was fine the last months but the last days problems are worse again.
1647  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: January 19, 2016, 10:12:12 AM
I have bitcoin because of sig campaigns then i turn it into fiat. rinse and repeat cycle

you should never return bitcoin to fiat, only the opposite, unless you disperately need something that cna only be bought with fiat

by dumping you're losing the value on the other coins you're are holding

Why not ? I'm do like him, when i receive my payment from signature campaign i always turn it into fiat too. because i prefer have cash instead of bitcoin.

I turn my bitcoins into nubits relatively fast too, at least when the price of bitcoin is not rising at the moment. It is still safer having a fixed value of usd (Nubits are worth 1 usd all the time) than risking to lose your income through bitcoin price dropping. Which happened lately.

I prefer nubits instead of letting fiat lying on exchanges since exchanges are a risk. My own nubit wallet isn't so much a risk.

The amounts escrowed are rarely enough to cover max possible expenditure
The times I've escrowed a campaign I've always made sure that I had more than enough to pay out every single person (even if they hit the maximum amount). If other escrow agents don't do that, it's their mistake and users shouldn't accept that. I know I wouldn't.

But that's easy to bypass. Campaign manager could announce that there are only 10 open spots, escrow sufficient amount, but after a week they could extend to 20-30 spots. Same goes with increase in rates, delayed payments, payments to site accounts etc. And if you act as an escrow, there's not much you can do. You can't really demand more money (unless you have the detailed escrow agreement).

Sure you can. You can resign from the position due to the changed circumstances.

There are enough ways. Ask the issuer to top up the funds the escrow holds. If he doesn't then the issuer needs to get red trust. It's best when the escrow is on default trust then.

The members taking part in the campaign should always make sure too that the amount the escrow holds in escrow is enough to cover everything. Especially when the escrow is not paying out the divs directly but instead holds only a safety fund. Since then the escrow is not involved so very much.

Till now i only held safety funds, which should be as safe as me paying the users out directly, and i ask the users always to keep me updated when the funds in escrow needs to be stacked up.
1650  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Vircurex does not allow for ANY withdrawals at the moment. on: January 19, 2016, 09:30:27 AM
Does vircurex has a service thread on bitcointalk? I tried to reach them through their support system but no answer.

I have read they got hacked in 2013 one time already though recovered it seems.

Since the owner kumala is the same owning cryptostocks.com i was wondering if i can reach him through vircurex since cryptostocks.com is down for 2 or 3 weeks now.

Cryptostocks has some problems, for example it doesn't repair the user emails. The emails sending out the list of shareholders to the issuers daily are working but not the user emails that, for example, send out the confirmation links when a user wants to withdraw funds. And now cs is fully down again.

Kumala should repair cryptostocks and when he doesn't want to proceed he would need to announce it and give everyone a month time to move away from cs. Then he could stop cs. But the way it is now is not good. It looks like he doesn't care about it anymore but this leaves the issuers and users with problems since the shares and bitcoins stay on the site unsolved.

I find the question "Why use bitcoin instead of cash?" still a hard question. When someone asks me "Why do i need that?" then what would you answer? Having control over your own money? It's safe on the bank too. Sending it over internet? I have paypal. Sending to other countries without restrictions? Don't need to.

For most normal people the normal payment systems work just fine. I feel it's still hard to explain the average joe why he should need bitcoin. At the end bitcoin has some risks about losing it. And that level of having to care yourself for your safety is something many people prefer not to have too.
1653  Economy / Economics / Re: Why have Bitcoin instead of cash? on: January 19, 2016, 09:08:59 AM
Bitcoin is a digital money hard to stole must know password to stole...if cash whenever my wallet lost all my money gone
Now a days people i think not going to hold many cash in wallet...they put in a card and so transaction in there...more safe and simply...

Well, i consider bitcoin less safe for most users. Let's say they have 2000$ in their wallet. Then if the wallet get hacked with a keylogger then he loses everything. The same goes when there are no backups and the computer gets stolen, visitors get access to the wallet, the owner dies and the remains are gone and so on.

All problems that don't arise when you have the money on your bank account.
1654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Methods of growing your Bitcoin? on: January 19, 2016, 08:46:58 AM
To grow my bitcoin i try to earn a little by gambling.
I also got a list of a few high paying faucets.
Whenever I have time or I am in a telephone conversation, i starting typing those bloody captcha's

It's astonishing to me how many people really consider gambling as a way of earning money. Ok, you did not specify what gambling but one should think about how the casinos can make their big bucks. It's because THEY win, not the gamblers. Gamblers lose constantly. It is not sane to see it as a way to earn.

That's why i rarely gambling on casino to earn earning money. i prefer sportsbook then casino, because in sportsbook you have 50% lose 50% win. not provably fuckin fair. and i think gambling is good for growing your bitcoin.

In sportsbook you have 50-50 chance? That's not the case in any match. There would be no space for them to earn from the bets. If you would say that you can predict the outcome pretty good, then ok, you might be able to raise the chances in your favor which is not possible on dice sites, for example.

And why do you prefer a centralized sportsbook against provably fair? Provably fair means the owner CAN'T scam because you can calculate the outcome of your bets yourself and it would be proofable when the owner would scam. It is very safe.

Here's a fun thing:

Pick a random point in time, then:

A) the average amount of time from that point to the next CLAM block is 1 minute
B) the average amount of time from that point to the previous CLAM block is also 1 minute
C) the average time between CLAM blocks is also 1 minute

Wouldn't you expect A + B = C? Yet A, B, and C are all 1 minute.

Are you sure that you used the same point in time to calculate the first 2 points? If C is correct then in average you should always find a point in or on a 1 minute timeframe. When judging a and b for the same point then this would mean the average has to be a fraction of a minute in each direction because when C is correct then the average for A and B can't be higher. I think that goes against probability.

Can you check if your script has no error really?

Edit: I see, you know the result? Then i guess i wait for where you deceived us. Cheesy
1656  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Master-P SCAMMER. I lost complete faith in this forum now. on: January 18, 2016, 11:17:27 PM
Something i'm wondering about is why he was not able to hide his real identity. It should be possible without much effort to have this eric being an invented identity. Even possible to receive packages with it.

If that is the case then paying back part of the small scammed amounts from this escrow account could be a way to make everyone sure that this is the real him. Leading people in the wrong direction and making them lose their courage.

Well, at the end he really might be not the smartest when reading his stories. It's really funny how i now await him playing even that part for reaching a deeper purpose. Well, you never know what to trust on when it comes to scammers it seems. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
1657  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Master-P SCAMMER. I lost complete faith in this forum now. on: January 18, 2016, 10:48:09 PM

Why did it take this long to reveal the perpetrator's information. It has been nearly a month now. Now the end of this can be filed away with and closure can be had for the ones that can now go to his door and demand payment either in person or by a lawyer in that guys country.

I think it worked out for the victims since he obviously feared the doxxing. They received back around half of their damage. I believe when he would have been doxxed then there would be no reason for him anymore to pay back. He would wait until he gets sued since he was doxxed already anyway. Damage done, nothing to fear anymore. Because chances are really not small that he would have been sued never.
So this is probably why he paid back half of the losses so nobody can sue him for being under the allowed limit to be able to sue in his country. I think it has to be an amount over $5000 usd which is probably a lot more in Canadian exchange to be able to put up a case per individual to claim it as damages.

Interesting idea. I think that might have something to it. Though i think when such a threshold exists then it would only be a threshold for criminal investigations. Victims still could go after him the civil law way. Though the less the damage the higher the chance no one will spend more money on that topic.

I think he started paying back when people started to connect him ot other scams. It might be way way worse for him when he can be connected to those.
