I'm curious if the block chain could have like a checkbox that indicates that you are donating to someone so that way someone could run a script to determine how much "generosity" the bitcoin network has.

Just a fun thought...

I never thought of it that way. Well sorry bro I'm no longer interested.

I've lost all my trust with the current monetary system and don't plan on having much trust to use in the future.

Bitcoin requires no trust.

most interesting post in the newbies section I've read so far   Shocked

Also maybe the most presumptuous. I gave an analogy of buying microsoft stock and silver (at a "unfairly" low price) and selling at a higher price.

What the hell is a Nebbie?  or a Nebie?

Also, how can anyone possibly look at these forums and pretend that deflation is a big secret that we are trying to hide from the masses?  You can hardly swing a cat in here without hitting a dozen threads on the subject, including the one and only sticky topic in the Economics forum.

Why are people trying to suppress the point that the system is unfairly designed?

How is it unfair that Bill Gates and his buddies got to buy microsoft stock when it was pennies to the dollar in respect to todays price of stock of that company or any company for that matter?

I am invested in silver. Yes I believe I got in early, not the earliest. But in the end I will likely sell my silver to someone who doesnt know any better that the market has peaked in silver and that they will be left holding the bag.

How are those two scenarios any different than bitcoin?

Truthcracker it is hard to tell from the present what will happen in the future. In the next 3 to 6 to 9 months we may be considered early adopters.

17887  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Legit owners here can not re-claim his own MtGox account!! on: June 26, 2011, 12:09:03 AM
Dwolla had indicated to me the other day that they do not have the ability to reverse deposits from their institution to mtgox.

I made a deposit about 10 days ago and it never showed up (this was before the mtgox hack). So I contacted mtgox and got a few responses but because of the hack they obviously were going to be delayed on responding to my request. The one thing they asked me for, which I still can't seem to find, is my mtgox number/account.

Sorry to hear your story bro, I'm not sure how many users are in the same boat as you but I logged into my account this morning and all of my BTC and $ were still there.

My initial claim on my account was rejected. Then I just blasted them with a ton of proving information that I was the owner and they basically gave in and approved my request.

Have you submitted ALL of your information? IP address? Dwolla ID? Made a secure password for you account? Saved any screenshots of your transactions at mtgox?

In anything that is fairly new there are hiccups in the system.

When I tried to setup my bank account it took me 2 weeks to get it correct because they person on the phone told me to include the preceeding 0's on the account number and that did not work.

Just call them up. They do respond pretty fast.

What do you want to buy it at? $20?
17890  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Namecoin Mining Pool on: June 26, 2011, 12:01:41 AM
Two weeks ago the ratio of difficulty was:

15000 / 877227 = 0.017099

And the exchange rate hit 0.14 as the high and average in the 0.06 to 0.08 range. That is a huge multiplication of value.

Like I said a few weeks back I was mining namecoins at 15000 difficulty and selling them for 2.5 times the amount of bitcoins I could get by pool mining.
 Grin

But don't take my advice/word for it, look and see for yourself.

Hope this helps you.
17891  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to sell/buy bitcoins without fees? on: June 25, 2011, 11:42:34 PM
0.3% yes on mt. gox for the next two weeks once they open trading. I'm just glad I got my $ and BTC back in my possession.

At this rate of difficulty changes the price of bitcoins has to go up. There my be a dip to maybe $10 or $12 but it will rebound strongly soaring past $32.

I have nine 6950s on three total rigs (three each) and they are all connected via dual cross-fire cables. So no additional external monitors or dummy plugs are needed.

I thought this was a good design to save on monitor costs.

As with anything that is good, it will get abused until necessary precautions are administered.

Glad to know the admins are deferring spammers out of our forum.

This project (bitcoin) will have many interesting opposition in the next few months and years....the fireworks in the price and the popularity will spread like wildfire.

(mining in the meantime)(stock piling bitcoins and namecoins)
17896  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has the ship sailed on mining profitability? on: June 25, 2011, 11:09:42 PM
You forgot to mention in your list:

4. Current Difficulty
5. Current amount of bitcoins per block (now is 50, but in a few years it will be 25).

Once it hits 25 i believe the price will have to at least double from its current value at that time.

Twice less bitcoins on top of the difficulty increases, gosh...

Thinks (suit cases of cash and laptops full of bitcoins)
17897  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ATI/AMD on: June 25, 2011, 11:07:18 PM
I suspect that in the months to come there will be hardware that is designed specifically for mining bitcoins which will give the current market hash rate a big boost. Optimization of hardware and software from the ground up will be the piece of the puzzle that will grow this market.

Keep an eye out for new technology to add to the bitcoin/namecoin network.
17898  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Namecoin Mining Pool on: June 25, 2011, 11:01:20 PM
Google "namecoin exchange" and look at the current rates. Once the rates go above a certain level (ratio of difficulty of the two networks) then you will actually be more profitable mining namecoins and trading them for bitcoins. Another plus about mining namecoins is the granularity of mining without fees from a pool.

Give it a few weeks and watch the to markets.
17899  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sell your bitcoin hardware! on: June 25, 2011, 10:59:01 PM
ALTERNATIVE: Mine namecoins. Current difficulty is 55,880 and will be dropping in the next set of 2016 blocks. The last difficulty was about 15000 and it shot up more than 3 times.

In the long term I see that namecoins will follow the path of bitcoins closely. There is one particular site where you can exchange your bitcoins for name coins and vice versa. Value is determined first by difficulty ratio between two networks then of course the demand of the market (buying or selling).

There are a couple of mining pools for namecoin. I will be having one up soon.

But you can join theirs and use your current hardware to mine for namecoins and when the ratio at the exchange goes up you can exchange them for bitcoins.

Just two weeks ago the it was 2.5x more profitable to mine namecoins at difficulty 15000 and exchange them for bitcoins.

If i'm not mistaken at the time I could mine namecoins for 1 full day with my 4.1 GH/s and get about 260 name coins and exchange them for about 10 to 12 bitcoins.

Just my 0.02 BTC.

If I were you I would never transfer all of my bitcoins to any ONE exchange. I was affected by the mtgox hack and luckily I had like half of my bitcoins in my possession. If mtgox went down for good and I had all of it in there that would have hurt pretty badly.
