The guy at the service counter said, you know this company just lost 250G right? He said he looked it up on Google. LOL. I told him that someone may have lost money but Bitcoin is not a company and people runs scams just like they do with USD. He seemed interested and kept asking me questions. I tried to answer his questions but then he became busy and had to leave. Just another day and another misled Bitcoin soul. Or is he... Hahah. Thanks for the first hand account. What are your thoughts on the magazine?

Now might be a good time to remind everyone that you buy Bitcoin Magazine at over 300 Barnes & Noble outlets across the USA right now. It is listed for the same price as the magazine online but with no waiting for shipping. We are still waiting for some action shots!

This bet that you did - I figured there would be some trick. Perhaps you knew Pirate would pay? Perhaps you had tons of Bitcoins and were going to pay out what you promised as an ultimate gesture of goodwill? Perhaps the Pirate story hadn't ended and it would've been great fun to scare everyone for a few weeks, only to pay up at the last minute? Maybe you had something creative in mind? I wasn't sure what the trick was, but I knew you wouldn't outright lie, cheat and steal.
Yet, that's what you did. You simply lied and reneged.
I too figured he had some trick up his sleeve but did not think he would go this route. The magazine clearly came out against Matthew's creation of this bet and forced him to remove any mention of the magazine within the vicinity of his bet. This is the worst case scenario of what we saw as the possible outcomes. This was not clever at all, just reckless and immoral. Do you see any accolades for your actions? You have forever damaged what was left of your reputation.

I'll look out for it this weekend. I'm inclined to buy an issue but if Matthew doesn't pay up this Sunday, I don't want anything to do with the magazine.
I'll buy a year's subscription if Matthew pays out as he said in his bet thread and in PMs.
Less than 48 hours...

Same, I'm buying if Matthew pays out. Hell, I'll be so happy I'll even buy them out most likely. If he doesn't pay with him co-owning the magazine and all, there's no chance in hell I'll ever buy an issue. Guess we'll see! I'll look out for it this weekend. If I lose and pay out according to the rules in my thread OP, you'll all buy a magazine. After I buy all they have I'll stand out in front of Barnes and Noble handing them out to people. Hell, I'll even film it and post it to youtube for proof. I can almost certainly guarantee that if you do that and film it, we will post it our website as a featured article. Not to be too nerdy, but in the words of Jean-Luc Picard - Make it so!

Who do I talk to about never receiving issues 2 and 3 that I bought in June?
They were shipped to most customers last week, so if you have not received them yet there is probably nothing to worry about. If you want to confirm your order has been shipped and the shipping date, you can email support@bitcoinmagazine.net.

As the title of the thread says, I am wondering who has bought Bitcoin Magazine at Barnes and Noble since it went on sale Monday. Pictures of the magazine on store shelves and action shots in general are encouraged. Tell your story about buying Bitcoin Magazine Issue 3 at Barnes and Noble here and your story/photos may be published by Bitcoin Magazine.

Why the crap are you still taking bet increases Matthew?
He doesn't plan on paying. If it wouldn't create an image problem for Bitcoin Magazine, I would start my own bet on whether or not Matthew will pay if he loses. I would of course take the stance that he will pay if he clearly loses.

This morning, several copies of Issues 2 and 3 of Bitcoin Magazine were left in downtown Mississauga. They are free to whomever finds them and can be found at:
Starbucks (Inside Chapters) 189 Rathburn Ave. W. Mississauga, Ontario
If you hurry, you still may find a copy or two there. Happy hunting!

Pictures ?
Quite frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for someone to ask. This is why there are very few girls in the Bitcoin world. At least she seems tough enough to take it. "The force is strong with this one"

Postmortem is probably not the best title for this thread. It gives the impression that the site is dead (offline and not coming back) but after reading your post that is clearly not what happened. Unless of course your point is to draw attention to the thread from shock.
(Edit) It doesn't look as bad with the new date. Glad to hear things are still running well.

I have to say, after seeing how matthew behaves on IRC and the forums I look at Bitcoin magazine differently...
He should just make a sock puppet account if he wants to act so unprofessional.
Im actually embarrassed for the members of that rag. I wonder why no one has reined him in...
Same. I guess you didn't see Vladimir's post a few pages back. Bitcoin Magazine does not condone nor have any involvement with Matthew's bet.

If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% without agreement to investors, -that- is fraud and a failure to pay back. I would obviously lose the bet. If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% but the investors agreed to it, -that- is the agreement and therefor he has paid it back. I would win the bet. If he owes 100% and pays back 100%, I would win the bet. If he owes 100% and does not pay anything anything back, I would lose the bet.
but then: Post in this thread how much you're committing and I will double that amount you commit (maximum of 10,000BTC in bets allowed in this thread total) if Pirate does not pay out in 3 weeks as he described in his thread.
And pirate's thread: When will I get my coins? Starting Monday I’ll begin systematically closing and withdrawing accounts as coins are transferred. I don't expect the entire process to last longer than a week. The moment your account is closed you’ll receive your coins plus any interest accrued up to the hour it was sent.
By this criteria Matthew has lost the bet. Pirate has admitted default and interest is no longer accruing which is in breach of the terms. QED. You could argue the accounts were automatically closed when he defaulted. If he pays 100% up until the default that would be hard to call Matthews bet lost. Once again is there any proof he is trying to settle for less than is owed?

|
|
Not to pick any sides in this but is there ANY proof that pirate is trying to settle for less? Newer OP here making a baseless accusation without any proof to back it up makes it pretty hard for me to believe this.

The magazine has my address and sadly this has never happened to me. What would be so bad about this anyways or am I just missing a troll? If i did, the next thing I know I would have a truckload of giggling Korean girls at my door.

Why do you think would he buy everyone Issue 1 when there are 2 more issues to be had? I think its interesting so many people are only interested in a digital edition because only one has been released in digital format so far. You can have your hands on the other 2 physical issues already. In fact, some people in the UK probably already have them. Print 5000 two BTC notes or just contract casascius for his physical coins and hand them out with a crew and flyers on wall street or in some other high profile financial area. Some of them would go unused but you would get a lot of people who would not be involved interested.
Yes, I think this is the best line of thinking. I would rather see funds invested in promoting Bitcoin to people who don't know about Bitcoin and who might potentially be interested, than giving a free gift to those who already do (by definition, everyone on these forums). Also, I already subscribe to the magazine, and ordered several copies of #1 to pass out to friends as an evangelism tactic....so getting one extra free copy doesn't excite me too much.

[22:51] <@pirateat40> btw, pirate has been drinking.
Probably because he is stressing out lol Pissing away everyone's money Is there any place you can get drunk accepting BTC yet ? I believe Whiskey Dick's in New York Orlando accepts Bitcoins for payment. Bitpay has done a great job of getting a number of businesses to accept Bitcoins. Perhaps you could contact them for a complete list.

I believe its 1% if you want BTC and 3-4% if you want fiat deposited into your bank account. I couldn't find any info about fees for merchants so I didn't sign up. Have a URL link? Thanks!

That's almost 3x what I make at my full time Job. If you can't live comfortably on 100k, there is something seriously wrong with you. Uhm where isn't it enough to retire? I will retire when I have amassed far less.
5mil is the bare minimum to retire on in the US after inflation considered. You can expect safe income of about 100k a year. That's not really a lot when you think about it. Unless you live in some awful town.
