181  Other / Meta / Re: if they banned signature ads would this forum still exist? on: December 03, 2021, 02:34:15 PM
Yes, and it has a great potential of actually improving the overall quality of the forum; next question

Moneditas gratis... tampoco vamos a quejarnos Grin
185  Economy / Reputation / Re: Got my first badge [990th most earned merits] on: December 01, 2021, 04:00:31 PM
If you're in the top 1000 merit earners with only (and I don't mean to belittle your merit earning) 160 merits, then I'd guess that most of the merits in existence belong to the profiles of a relatively small number of members.  Crazy, isn't it?
There is indeed some kind of quintuplet gang around this forum that has a tendency of hoarding merits; not sure you've heard about them.

Though I must say I was also a bit surprised to see that 1000th merit earner is only a bit north of 150...

What can I be proud of kelonmusk is just a beginner with no merit  Cry

Way NOT to go about the issue bud  Wink

As for OP, congrats on this achievement, starting at this forum is actually the most difficult part of the journey, so keep it up!
186  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Rename the "Press" board to "Spammer of the Month" board on: November 30, 2021, 09:00:02 AM
I'd even go deeper in the rabbit hole and say that there's not either enough staff currently moderating the forum and/or the current staff doesn't want to waste their time moderating.

There's too many spam in way too many sections; the Press board is a good example, but as already pointed out, the same thing applies to the Bitcoin discussion board, Gambling too, not to go into the altcoin whole section... There's way too many spam being generated to be handled accordingly, and we may even be at a point in which only exemplary measures may have some impact. And that does not go against freedom of speech. Keeping things clean doesn't mean people can't express their oppinions, they simply should actually have an oppinion instead of regurgitating a quote or a completely empty post consisting on a few sentences that are only meant to reach the signature quota.

They simply have to step up their game; after X posts deleted for being completely empty or void of any argument, a short ban. If that keeps happening, a longer temp to end up with a perma-ban for literally spamming. Another twist; the bans should actually say the reason for it: you've had X posts deleted for being a signature campaign spam.

But seeing how most if not any proposal to tidy up the forum or X boards have ended, we can only wish Santa will bring us some of this for Xmas...

Looks like the perfect excuse to bring this thread back: search engine optimization for local boards

As a side note... why take all the effort to set up a vpn and search from there? Don't private/incognito tabs provide the same level of... lack of previous search and patterns for this situation?

190  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Foro local Español - situación actual on: November 29, 2021, 04:13:37 PM
----

191  Other / Meta / Re: 'Bitcoin Discussion' down in search results on: November 28, 2021, 10:41:52 AM
I doubt theymos (or other member) bother use google ads to boost traffic of this forum.
Precisely; I meant that he had to check whether the first results that were showing up were ads, rather than organic results

193  Other / Meta / Re: Airdrop Post Deleted. on: November 25, 2021, 05:34:02 PM
If a post was deleted by a moderator and not the creator of a self-moderated thread then yes, you should have gotten a PM telling you that your post was deleted.
Uuhh.... AFAIK, even if it's self-moderated you'll be getting a PM (in fact, I'm looking for one from a few years ago...)

A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by the starter of a self-moderated topic. There are no rules of self-moderation, so this deletion cannot be appealed. Do not continue posting in this topic if the topic-starter has requested that you leave.

You can create a new topic if you are unsatisfied with this one. If the topic-starter is scamming, post about it in Scam Accusations.

If you didn't, it's possible that a post you quoted got nuked, which would nuke yours as well (I'm pretty sure about that).  Did you have a whole thread (or multiple) get deleted?  If that's the case, I'm not sure if you get a PM about that or not.  It could have been considered spammy depending on what was written.  Do you happen to have a quote or something?
If the thread is moved to the trashcan instead of being "deleted", it won't send a notification, even if done by mods.

Are you sure the first results are not ads/sponsored? I did a quick google search of the term with a private tab and the first result was the forum followed by the board itself.

I also tried a quick Duckduckgo search, and the forum is still at 3rd place
195  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 20-Nov-21] on: November 25, 2021, 11:42:35 AM

I was rather refering to the trends rather than individual projects being "good"; but still the same applies.

If after the ICO fever they'd created an IEO board...Would that have changed anything? If after the IEO fever...DeFi? NFTs? P2E? It's simply the same over and over again, a bunch of people wanting to grab some quick cash.

197  Other / Meta / Re: This board is not keeping up with current times on: November 25, 2021, 10:07:09 AM
It may not be 2017 anymore, but this is still bitcointalk(.org), as in Bitcoin, the criptocurrency some shitcoiners may never have seen.

If the forum administration was to create a new board/section for every Alt hype that comes from time to time, there wouldn't be much of the bitcoin part left...

IMPORTANT: Restricted Countries Update!

Within 24 hours, access to the BetFury site will be restricted for German and Austrian users.

It's funny how they've included a long ass list on their TOS but forgot to add them to the short list too...
