1083  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Now blockchain.com offers 4.5% annual interest for holding BTC with them? on: June 20, 2020, 06:16:38 PM
This might be useful for people considering using the service; it's a thread in which the whole topic was discussed when the emails first arrived

1084  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Compra y venta online, es buen negocio? on: June 20, 2020, 09:47:50 AM

Además, me parece completamente innecesario...

1090  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitaddress not sweeping correctly on: June 10, 2020, 09:53:15 AM
Ok, had a little test with the Electrum/Trezor set up.

Set up electrum on a comp, swept the private key of a small paper wallet. No issues there, all as expected.

Waited for confirmations then tried to send the coin to a blockchain account.

Just curious about this one, but why on earth would you want to do that? Going from a Trezor+Electrum setup to a Blockchain.com wallet is for sure a downgrade; on privacy, coin control and security

Not quite sure of what you mean there. Should I have done that before sweeping the private key into electrum?
If the wallet you want to sweep is either nested or native Segwit, yes. Otherwise, the private key will be read as a Legacy one.

Did a google search and found nothing. Could it be because the trezor hasn't been updated?
You can connect you device to the trezor web wallet and check the firmware version you are using there. A new firmware was released a couple of days ago to make the way Trezor handles Segwit transactions safer, and I recall them saying that
Quote
We are providing a patch for Electrum as a pull request #6198. It will be impossible to use Electrum with Trezor 1.9.1 and 2.3.1 until this patch is released.
This however, should not affect older firmware versions (or so I believe).

I'm curious about something here too....
Set up electrum on a comp, swept the private key of a small paper wallet. No issues there, all as expected.

Waited for confirmations then tried to send the coin to a blockchain account. Asked to enter code and then got this message.

DataError: Native segwit is disabled
So you did go to Electrum, then swept the address by importing the private key, receiving address is supposed to be one inside the wallet if you don't change it, then clicked sweep and created a transaction? Because it's a bit unclear whether you get the error when you sweep from the paper wallet into Trezor(Electrum), or when you send from Electrum to blockchain.

Also, did you get a transaction ID before getting the error? And, where did you get the error? On Blockchain, or on Electrum?
1091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I've found my old wallet.dat now what? on: June 10, 2020, 12:22:14 AM

For that to work, he would either need to know the exact addresses that had coins in them, or dump all the wallet keys and check every address individually I'm not sure about the second one being faster than downloading the whole blockchain, because there are a hell lot of addresses in the dump file.

Just going to make the standard question here, which won't really matter much since you can lie and everything, but:

1)Are the wallets genuinely yours, or did you buy them at a website trying to bruteforce them?
1092  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitaddress not sweeping correctly on: June 08, 2020, 06:03:55 PM
Is the address you created Legacy or Segwit?
Is the address you see on blockchain.com Legacy or Segwit?

Blockchain does not fully support Segwit as of now, and the issue might be just there.

I think this board has a post volume that low enough to let you check for duplicates before posting.... Just saying, because the 6th post in the board (at the time of writing, so higher when this was published) is this exact thread....

And yes, I'm bitching about it because I created the other thread; but come on.... You only have to open your eyes a tiny bit Roll Eyes
1094  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Compartmentalized brainwallet on: June 06, 2020, 10:41:33 PM
If I have not misread the situation; Trezor web wallet lets you create different accounts (wallets) within the same device/recovery phrase. It does also support extended passphrases and lets you create multiple wallets within the same passphrase.

The downside to this? You have to buy and set up the device. You'll be gaining a lot in security tough.

And basically this is only a more visual way of creating a new wallet with a new derivation path. So it's mostly what nc50lc has already said

Watch out; trolling newbies asking for scam loans in the Lending board comes with the risk of receiving a flag  Tongue

Good one tough; a user learnt how to sign a message, and that knowledge will remain forever with him

Seems to be working fine now; no duplicated notification and I can see how much merit, from who, and where it's been received

Keep up the great work!

1099  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Trezor firmware update on: June 03, 2020, 02:37:17 PM
I've just received the following email from Trezor:

Quote from:  Trezor Email
Latest Firmware Updates Correct Possible Segwit Transaction Vulnerability
Thanks to a report by Saleem Rashid via our responsible disclosure program, we were notified of a potential security vulnerability in Segwit transactions. This issue is a result of design choices in the Bitcoin protocol and is not a vulnerability specific to Trezor.

As this is a corner case, it is highly unlikely that you will encounter this problem. Segwit transactions are not affected if they are already on the blockchain and there is a rare possibility of this issue even if you are signing a new transaction while you have malware on your computer.

Even though this is a very improbable scenario and it will eventually be resolved by the Bitcoin community, SatoshiLabs is dedicated to correcting all problems, even those outside of normal operating parameters, no matter their likelihood. The firmware updates for Trezor One (version 1.9.1) and Trezor Model T (version 2.3.1) change how Segwit transactions are handled and correct this.

Check out our dev corner for a more detailed explanation.

Yours,
Trezor
It looks like the problem comes from the network rather than Trezor themselves. A patch for Electrum is also coming to solve this; but....
