1822  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - 60BTC guarantee tournament Sunday on: July 16, 2012, 12:34:54 AM
Twenty minutes to the 60BTC, currently a 30BTC overlay. Go get it.

Hate that I missed it, what was the price pool?

60BTC again. By overlay I don't mean extra above the 60, just that the 60 represents that much more than was actually paid by players meaning you have fewer villains to defeat for the same prizes. There were 24 players this week, so we added the 12BTC to make it 60.

1823  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will bitcoin hit $100? on: July 15, 2012, 10:00:10 PM
My guess is that now there are a lot of people/teams, as ingenious and educated or more so than "Satoshi", who are working on even better p2p currency.

Don't underestimate the power of the Bitcoin protocol! The currently enabled functionality in the client is but a small fraction of what's possible. Instant transactions, real micro-payments, true anonymity, free automatic escrow, scalable blockchain and much more is what's coming to Bitcoin in the next years. And no, these are not just items on a wish-list but all perfectly possible with the current Bitcoin protocol! It's just that none of the clients makes use of them because it is really hard to get the implementation done right without introducing possible security flaws.

Besides, even if another P2P cryptocurrency with superior features came along tomorrow - it would first have to prove itself over time to be at least as secure as Bitcoin has turned out to be over the last 3.5 years. People are not going to trust serious amounts of money to a system that hasn't been thoroughly scrutinized by a lot of experts for some years. We're not talking about some fancy P2P filesharing protocol after all.

Having said that, I still voted only "within a decade".

We'll forgive you because the poll is kind of silly. I also think it will happen within a decade, and within 5 years, and within a decade.

do you charge 1.5% on anonymous receive addresses as well?

Yes, I should clarify that.

Bonus currently active. However the increase of the output depth has made it much pickier about what addresses qualify, it is likely that if you send through any funds that have already passed through the mixer in 48 hours they will not qualify (a ~0.0002 BTC miners fee will be charged).

I tried this out with 3BTC expecting 3.015 back. So far I've gotten 2 tx back that total 2.9996. Was I charged the miners fee twice or am I just waiting for another tx of .0154?

Will it ever happen that it switches from bonus mode to charging mode after an address to pay is generated? Or does the right to a bonus stick with any address generated during bonus time?
1826  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will bitcoin hit $100? on: July 15, 2012, 07:52:38 AM
100 USD/BTC is not at all an extreme prediction imho.
Let's say that it happens when there are 12 million bitcoin in circulation. That would make for a total market value of 1.2 billion USD which isn't even pocket change in the financial world. This is less money than the US spends on securing its oil supply (military) in 20 hours.

No one will take bitcoin seriously till it's a 10+ billion thing - I.e. the bitcoin price is well over 500 USD. Might never happen, but it needs to happen for bitcoin to become relevant.

If all the bitcoins (lets say 12mil) were worth the same as all apple stock it would mean a bitcoin price of $47000.

$7.50 and $100 not looking so high with that in mind.

House edge has been reduced to 1.8% to stay competitive.

Place your bets!

Where does it end!
1828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help needed for my personal contribution to Bitcoinica customers on: July 15, 2012, 06:06:21 AM
Considering the people with access and responsibility couldn't handle deciding who to pay I don't think any outsider is going to fare any better.

I know it isn't the same as giving to all Bitcoinica customers, but I think you can't go too far wrong paying the 5000 to Memory Dealers. His claim is clearly true, and if somehow people are paid in full or close he can be trusted to return it to you or someone else who can do the right thing.

If it seems too unfair to you or to other Bitcoinica customers you could just donate it to a trust to be controlled by Memory Dealers to be used for the benefit of Bitcoin in general. That ought be pleasing to MD since that's what he wants the coin for anyhow.

Really it is your money, but since you publicly pledged it to Bitcoinica users maybe it is too much like renigging on that, maybe gauge sentiment first.
1829  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: July 15, 2012, 05:59:10 AM
That bearer bond looks awesome.

I've been wanting a nice looking way of saving offline funds to paper.  Armory is pretty cool, but something easily printed would be really nice, too.

We should come up with a good list of people/things for the portraits and the quotes.  I know there have been a few posts before filled with ideas.

+1

Maybe we can pool together to get some CERTIFICATES printed out by a CERTIFICATE company. you know the same ones that do stocks and bonds and vital records and stuff? Sure we can print the details at home but this would be really sweet!

Don't you really want to print it yourself since it has the private key right there? One rouge employee with a camera could do a lot of damage.
1830  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - 60BTC guarantee tournament Sunday on: July 15, 2012, 05:38:56 AM
I just mistakenly paid rakeback a day early. So Sunday the 15th will get added to next week, and there will be an hour or so (midnight ET to ~1am) that will get paid double.
1831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Underwhat circumstances would you sell off all your BTC? on: July 15, 2012, 05:23:25 AM
I'd sell of all my bitcoins in the event that the price spikes to something crazy in one day like the $30 spike, only to buy them back later.

This.
If the price multipled many times over in a short period of time I would probably sell all of my coins.

The first time that happened I didn't sell (Yay me!)

The second time that happened I didn't sell (Yay me!)

The third time that happened I didn't sell (Boo!)
1832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Underwhat circumstances would you sell off all your BTC? on: July 15, 2012, 05:21:05 AM
I would never sell everything, but I might sell half if:
-Pirate defaults
-A miner gets 50% of the total hashrate
-Extremely bad major news coverage (CNN claims "Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme")

Really? Sell on pirate default? It seems to me that a pirate default reveals there to be fewer coins that previously though and should push the price up. Maybe moreso if he first struggles to buy the coins he owes.

I'd be pretty damned concerned if BFL or similar said "actually, we're going to keep these and mine" and then the difficulty trippled. Or if double spends past 1 confirm became common. I'd probably have to sell a good chunk.

CNN claims "Bitcoin is a Ponzi Scheme" doesn't scare me at all. Other media will love to ridicule them and demonstrate the differences. Plus so few people who are holding coin will believe. And even if only a small percent of non-holders figure it out and become holders that will be a huge number compared to current holders. If I had free cash I might buy on a story like that. Not to mention that a story like that doesn't come out of the blue and probably indicates increase top-level concern about bitcoin proliferation.
1833  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - 60BTC guarantee tournament Sunday on: July 15, 2012, 03:07:32 AM
We put up a 1000 chip (1BTC) tourney for 6pm ET on Saturday.

Stay tuned for more. And don't miss the guarantee on Sunday.

Damn I missed this, I think you should advertise it along side the Sunday tourny and put stars (**) on the name in the lobby so it shows up at the top of the tourny list.

And perhaps make it 3 PM EST so that it attracts Europe users. Seems like a good middle, maybe 4 at the latest.

I will ** it for next time. There was short notice for it this week so it didn't get a turnout. This one will stay at the same time, but we'll keep the whole globe in mind as we develop the schedule.
1834  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - 60BTC guarantee tournament Sunday on: July 14, 2012, 10:30:43 PM
Is there a way to transfer chips to players?

I have a friend that I'd like to send chips to.  Do I have to cash out to my own address first? or can I just cash out and put their deposit address in there?

There is a transfer feature in the playing software and that is the faster way. In the lobby click Account then Transfer chips.

If you want to save an amount that is meaningful to you learn how to safely handle your own wallet. If you convenience for a small amount use an e-wallet. You might want both.

Well, at least it's good to know that nuts won't decieve me. They're preserved with salt, not lies. Wait a minute... salt is sodium chloride! That contains chlorine! Chlorine is bad for you! I'd better put on a gas mask... *attempts to eat nuts by mashing them against gas mask filter* Dammit, this isn't working! What am I doing wrong?

Better be careful about water too. I saw a local water quality report the other day that said there were levels of dihydrogen monoxide that would make your eyes pop. That shit can kill you!

I hear that levels of DHMO in the water supply are in the 90%+ range now

DHMO really deserves a whole new thread. That stuff kills a lot of people.
1838  Economy / Speculation / Re: NEW Bitcoinica hack! 30% of all funds stolen! on: July 13, 2012, 08:57:24 PM
It's not clear what was done with the US$40k that was stolen but is it possible (likely) that they were used to buy bitcoins with to allow the bitcoins to be withdrawn thus driving the price up yesterday.

i.e. the hacker sent US$40k to some dummy account, immediately converts to bitcoins at whatever rate is available (pushing the price higher), then withdraws the bitcoin.

So this hack might have resulted in some "false" buying pressure. The hacker bought the bitcoins not because they were bullish about the value of bitcoin but rather because it is the most convenient and anonymous way to withdraw the money.

I dunno if it is 'false' if it is the best way to solve a problem. It may be 'undone' soon, or maybe not, if the thief also considers it a solution to the long term storage problem.

Id love to see a tournament that caters to Australian Time Zones ( GMT +8 ).

Freef rolls and the 1/2 hour are good for now though Smiley

Ideal time for you would be Aus evening?
That'd probably work for us late-night Pacific-Coasters too!  Wink

I'm thinking 6am ET which would be 3amPT and 7(?)pm in AUS?

This has been one of the most stressful situations with maximum suffering I have ever experienced. I am furious and I hope everyone involved putting us through this gets what's due to them. Karma is a bitch, you fucking wankers.

Right. Because this has not been the most stressful time of my life.

I have physical health problems and need to see a doctor, but haven't had the time. On the forums I'm called a scammer and repeatedly insulted. Someone is trying to sue us. My bank gave me crap and held my money. I was borrowing cash from friends and spent 3 days eating bad muesli and cheap milk. I lost a lot of code by accident. I put a lot of work into the bitcoin.org clients page to make everything fairer, and now it will be removed, helping to recentralise bitcoin again. Electrum maybe has a security flaw and Macs have random problems. The conference needs the CFP announced soon, but I have to deal with Bitcoinica first. My health is suffering and im getting headaches. Right now is the first time I'm feeling depression, and I'm a little worried because I've never had it before but my father did. I emailed a health professional and they advised me to seek help. I've started sleeping very long, being very lethargic and apathetic. When the Bitcoinica thing first happened, I was considering suicide until Tihan said he had the funds.

Get some sun if you can. I hate to say it, but it almost has to be up from here, right?
