1081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Influence of ASICS once all Bitcoins are found on: October 05, 2012, 09:57:22 PM
This early adopter problem has been there since the first day of BTC, it greatly decrease the late comer's incentive, and hurt the popularity of BTC

If that was true wouldn't there be fewer new people every day? But actually we see more because bitcoins are more valuable now. They are more valuable now because every new person or business who accepts them makes them more useful.
1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Influence of ASICS once all Bitcoins are found on: October 05, 2012, 09:46:26 PM
I anticipate, after 75% of the coin are mined after another 4 years, people will lose incentive to mine the rest of the coin

Because, when most of the coin have already been generated, the feeling of being the late commer is very strong and obvious: No matter how hard you mine, you can only get a very little amount of coin, these kind of unfair feeling will drive people to search for some other games where they could become the early adopter

That's not a possibility. If everyone else "loses incentive" I'll mine them all on one laptop. The incentive will always be enough because it adjusts.
1083  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - Biggest Bitcoin Poker Site - Ring games, MTTs and Freerolls on: October 05, 2012, 09:42:51 PM
You can send complaints (or any other feedback) to admin@sealswithclubs.eu.

Talking in a foreign language is not suspicious. It is fairly easy to get the jist of what they are saying with google translate.

There are lots of innocent reasons for not betting both weak and strong hands. That doesn't make for very good evidence.

We really don't want to censor chat outside of flooding, but we are aware that the block chat function is not very good now. Hopefully it will be improved before long. The main downsides are that you still see **** in place of the blocked chat and that there is no permanent block, you have to redo it every time you log in.

Any thoughts to a bad beat jackpot?  That would help draw increased traffic to ring games.

Secondly, will there be consideration for deposit bonuses that required x number hands to clear?  I know if I had put in a bunch of BTC for the bonus, I would be playing a lot more plus it would give me something to work towards clearing.

Finally, is there anyway to connect to the server via port 80?  I can't connect from behind my work's firewall  Embarrassed

We've just set up high hand prizes so if we do a BBJ it won't be for a while. The prize for a royal might go progressive, that might make it more exciting.

I don't like deposit bonuses because I don't care if you deposit, get chips from a friend, or win them in a freeroll. I also don't want to discourage withdrawing like most bonus setups do.

We do have the krill system (and right now a krill race) which lets you earn rakeback eventually. And once you earn it you don't lose it, so it is like building value in your account.

You can't access the software via port 80 unfortunately. Bribe an IT guy with coins? :-)
1086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The EFF's damage to Bitcoin continues. on: October 05, 2012, 07:38:38 PM
The EFF is run by bank owned govts, why would they approve of bitcoin? Come on guys get real. Bitcoin is the shit stirring currency of the world, get used to its negativity.

Actually i think they are afraid, rather than cooperating with authorities.
They do not want to touch anything with undefined legal status

Probably so, but they should just pack it up if they are afraid to be on the frontier.
1087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Potential obstacles for mass adoption of BTC on: October 05, 2012, 08:09:52 AM
there are other clients that don't need to use it.

No. Imagine what will happen if everyone uses clients that don't need full blockchain.

Imagine if we all went to the Dunkin' Doughnuts on the corner of 38th and Walnut at 9am on Wednesday!

wait you work for fiat?

not sure if i should take that as a comedical comment that i work for the car manufacturer Fiat.
or the fact that my real life job in medical industry continues and i have not yet took the leap into making crypto my full time job..

crypto can be done via PC anywhere, so why retire early limiting income. this is my retirement fund for a luxury life but being 29 im still to young to want to retire.. ask me again in 6 years.

Actually I'm just confused about what you want. I guess you earn fiat and think of it in terms of time and want us who earn bitcoins to do the same?

im not saying i want anything, never said i wanted bitcoin earners to do anything..

im just saying to imagine the possibilities - negatives and positives of if we treated bitcoin the way the guys in the medieval times traded before centralisation (the gold value/fiat value) came around.

im talking hypothetically imagine, and discuss. not take action lol so relax, no one can control how you do things, but talking is free..

imagine the possibilities or ramifications of never having fiat to compare to

Assuming there is still some market we'll just go see what valuable things we can get for a bitcoin. There is nothing special about fiat except that it is in wide use now.
1089  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why pay fees when mining?? on: October 05, 2012, 03:09:16 AM
What is meant by orphans?

It means that the block has no children blocks. (seriously, in bitcoin terminology, orphan == childless.. brilliant, isn't? Smiley)

Lol, indeed, ought be barren blocks.

Which shows that argument 3 is bullshit:

Their entire argument is bullshit. Good find on a product they seem to like endorsing.

Honestly, I do not see what the fuss is all about. If you ran a corporation or a 501(c)(3) non proft, the board of directors do whats best for the organization. If you had an organization and realized that a certain action could cause trouble would you take the risk of doing that action? The legal concerns they express are valid. I think I would rather see them fight battles rather than be a victim of a battle.
Even if they don't take on a case regarding bitcoin, doesnt mean that they wont submit an amicus curiae in support of bitcoin if/when a case does come down.
This is just one guy's opinion but I just see them avoiding a big mess..

That would be perfectly fine logic if it was a 501(c)(3) for saving cute endangered animals or something, but they are supposed to be on the FRONTIER, not acting like some scared org not wanting to meddle with something that has unknown legal implications. They are supposed to be pioneering this kind of stuff and advocating it.
1092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin is centralised on: October 05, 2012, 02:27:40 AM
So when I need to sell some for rent instead of doing [fiat rent]/[fiat price of BTC]=[number of BTC I need to sell] what calc should I do?

eg my rent is 25% my real world income.

so if i paid using bitcoin id pay 25% of my bitcoin income.. id probably only get a shoe box of an apartment from my current earnings but if i wanted a luxury apartment id have to give myself a pay rise (get more rigs running)

I was just going to say something similar as FreeMoney, though a bit less eloquently.  I think that our perceived value of the fiat currency changes over time as we all have a general idea of what we can buy with it. It's just a handy basis of comparison.

understandable but imagine a world where fiat never existed to use as a comparison.. imagine the possibilities

wait you work for fiat?
1093  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin is centralised on: October 05, 2012, 01:54:04 AM

I don't use MtGox price.  Nice try though.

it doesnt have to be mtgox, but i bet u use fiat as your indicator of value

i dont use U.S 'reserve' for my real world financial indicator.
im british.

my point being is ignore fiat as your tool for value. what would bitcoin be like if we just used time as value

So when I need to sell some for rent instead of doing [fiat rent]/[fiat price of BTC]=[number of BTC I need to sell] what calc should I do?
1094  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - Biggest Bitcoin Poker Site - Ring games, MTTs and Freerolls on: October 04, 2012, 09:59:37 PM
I think the players at sealwithclubs are way beyond average players skill ways. Or maybe I suck more then I thought Smiley

Bitcoiners are just too damn smart.

But at the lower levels it's never such a tough game.
1095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin ever did go completely mainstream... on: October 04, 2012, 05:50:50 AM
It wouldn't make sense for bitcoin to kill fiat currency since it is entirely backed by fiat currency.

Face it, if you couldn't exchange bitcoins for dollars, not one single person would bother with them.  Just go to any thread where someone is scamming/selling something.  Everything is translated in US dollar value.

This is only partly true. I personally would enjoy taking USD out of the equation.

I would accept only bitcoin, period.

But you can't. Price something in bitcoin without looking at the exchange rate to dollars. (You can do it off the top of your head but lets say in 18 months)

Bitcoin just started the wrong way. If it were used for example trading pictures you made, or something else easily produced by everybody instead of buying somebody a pizza it would have turned out very differently. This is a social issue not a economical or technical one.

The only reason you can pick a price for a thing in dollars is that you are surrounded by dollar price tags. If the dollar was gone you'd have to find another way (like looking around at the BTC price tags, yes it's circular, it's already begun).
1096  Economy / Gambling / Re: SealsWithClubs.eu - Biggest Bitcoin Poker Site - Ring games, MTTs and Freerolls on: October 04, 2012, 04:49:56 AM
Unfortunately there is no way to prove honesty with our current software. If/when we build something custom that will be a high priority.

You wouldn't win a biggest loser prize Kentrolla.
1097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin ever did go completely mainstream... on: October 04, 2012, 02:24:10 AM
If Bitcoin ever did go completely mainstream and actually succeeded in killing off some fiat currencies, it would make just about every person on this forum incredibly wealthy. The new wealthy elite would be roughly 95% male, and dominated by geeks/nerds/libertarians/smart people.

Speculate on how you think this would affect the world we live in.  What would be different vs today's world?

Absolutely not. A lot of people around here have ~0 coins and another group are in bitcoin debt.

What % of world wealth do you think men have now?

But yeah, it'll be higher % smart people than now :-)
1098  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Solution to The Bitcoin Foundation (the announcement) on: October 04, 2012, 01:45:03 AM
I will never accept Litecoins because I'll always have to worry that the sort of people who will jump to a similar chain will just do it again (Lightercoin?) and there won't be goods backing it when I go to get payback for my work.
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will the state do? on: October 03, 2012, 08:22:36 PM
State 'thinking':

This new thingamacurrency will empower people to ignore our dictates. Lets write some more dictates.
