2022  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: SierraChart bridge - Realtime Bitcoin charts [v0.5] (MtGox, Intersango, ...) on: April 14, 2013, 07:55:13 AM
Okay the one thing I have seen is that if the tool tried to download from the very begining (i.e. start=0) then fails much more then say its trying to catchup for the last couple of days. So It may help to import recent data and then try to download the rest and re-sync.

I have uploaded two files in this folder. once SCID and exported txt file up until the last few minutes  (Apr 14 2013 12:53 PST). Hope it helps.

great idea. appreciate. ...folder is showing empty though? apparently i was getting ahead of the upload... all sorted.

2024  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 13, 2013, 08:26:47 AM

We had SOME media attention, and LITTLE institutional investing. To be at the crash, those would have had to been exhausted as seen in the background of the graph. That most certainly has not even come close to happening, therefore is anything we are at the first sell-off.

Most likely: that graph can't be used to infer anything in regard to bitcoin

But go ahead and continue spouting FUD so that your sell doesn't end up biting you in the ass.

Well, I dont think that what I post in this thread will make that much a difference. Also with all those bulls here I am clearly a minority.
I have lost money in two bigger bubbles before, and I have to tell you, there is really a lot of similarity. One of it is that people keep claiming that THIS is not comparable to anything we had before.

while it's absolutely true that's a common failing of stocks and tech in general, the whole "new paradigm" thing - bitcoin's tech and such really is unlike anything else out there, that's not a fallacy of the mind of investors.

gotcha. thanks.
2026  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 13, 2013, 08:18:35 AM

Jerking off to this right now, can you blow it up for me with some higher reso!

Yeah, I just wanted to say that this is pretty much a wet dream come true.

I just found this thread and haven't had a chance to read through the WHOLE thing. I don't have a lot of technical expertise, but I have been thinking a lot lately about an ASIC solution that would repurpose a GPU rig by swapping out the GPUs for ASICs of the similar size and form of GPUs using the same slots and power connections - all in the interest of keeping the network decentralized. Is something like this in the works here or elsewhere? Is it even possible or feasible?

I am also potentially interested in obtaining some shares here. I suspect they have all been bought up long ago, however.

possible, sure. efficient, i don't know. there's a thread in custom hardware about a DIY avalon approach, since avalon has said they want to sell chips. that may be your best place to ask.

as to shares: the IPO was finished ages ago, yes. but there are plenty of people selling them still, either directly, or through passthroughs on a couple exchanges. going price is about .7 btc a share. there's more info on that subject here, if you go back to about tuesday or so of this week in this thread.
2027  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 1st Bitcoin Gift card :) on: April 13, 2013, 07:33:27 AM
so are these actually in stock somewhere? i'm going to be in a position to buy one monday. just $25.... and i'd rather do this then local bitcoins or such
2028  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 13, 2013, 07:29:07 AM
makes a great stepping stone though. buy one, wait till you can afford a second, rinse, repeat until you have a decent income, THEN buy the big boys. ...this is pretty much exactly what i'm gonna do since my income is unlikely to see me with several thousand to spend anytime soon.

but 50 or so here and there? i can swing THAT.
2029  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 13, 2013, 03:18:29 AM
Seriously... if these things are $39 each... I'll take 100. TODAY!!!

Need to know more, and where to send Cash/BTC/Small children/Any spare organs I don't need.

ooo, they'll take organs? Cheesy
2030  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 13, 2013, 12:15:10 AM
ya know, at current difficulty, these make about .66 btc a month. at the current exchange (122 on gox, yea, i know. been a wild week.) that means, even at a cost of $75 per unit, they'd pay themselves off in a month.

the only problem i see, looking at this, is that with that width and height of the heatsink, it would be impossible to get two of them side by side without skipping a usb port.
2031  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: April 12, 2013, 11:54:15 PM
The amazing thing about small products is that you can charge a lot more hashrate wise. People want a cute USB ASIC miner, and even if it's four times the price per MH as other ASIC offerings or what there will still be a lot of people who buy it.

oh totally agreed. i'd happily pay well over 16.50... anything for hashes.
2032  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 12, 2013, 11:39:29 PM
Gox is the ultimate way of money laundering.

"Where did that money come from??"

"Oh, um, I bought at $110, then moved my coins to Bitcoin China, sold, it crashed, bought again, moved it back to Gox, now its at $100, bought, oh yea, did I mention thats from a different account? Oh and I put it through a mixer on the way to and from Bitcoin China... sorry if this is confusing..."

stop tempting me to offer this as a darknet service.

as someone currently mining with just over 300 mhash in video cards (well, a video card...) and WAY too broke to buy an avalon or more AM shares (i have 1 though!) i had been afraid my only option would be a bfl jalapeno. this could change everything.

does anyone have a realistic guess to price? i know bfl is advertising a jalapeno for 275 for 5 ghash... if my math is right (don't count on it!) thats about 5 cents per mhash. that would leave this at 16.50 USD for 300 mhash... is that even remotely possible? i honestly don't know.

note i'm not saying it SHOULD cost that much. i'm asking if it COULD.

Why the witch-hunt? He's decided to shut down the pool. He's planning on paying users.
Side note: A mtred user on IRC was complaining that apparently they aren't paying shares found after the last block, and that he was unable to withdraw his full balance...

yet. he was unable to withdraw his full balance YET. as expected.

Everything is fine. We have no funds locked anywhere in any exchanges. All modules in the second batch is under assembling and the deploying is on track. Last night we have been testing the new deploying mechanism till 5 am. And this afternoon I went to see the doctor for my cough and sniff.

We will give the update tonight.

hope your cough feels better soon! get some rest if ya need it.

anyone here at all familiar with hawala? money transfer system from the arabic world going back a long ways. i don't understand it fully, but it seems like it's applicable here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hawala.png
ie: (1) A customer (A, left-hand side) approaches a hawala broker (X) in one city and gives a sum of money (red arrow) that is to be transferred to a recipient (B, right-hand side) in another, usually foreign, city. Along with the money, he usually specifies something like a password that will lead to the money being paid out (blue arrows). (2b) The hawala broker X calls another hawala broker M in the recipient's city, and informs M about the agreed password, or gives other disposition instructions of the funds. Then, the intended recipient (B), who also has been informed by A about the password (2a), now approaches M and tells him the agreed password (3a). If the password is correct, then M releases the transferred sum to B (3b), usually minus a small commission. X now basically owes M the money that M had paid out to B; thus M has to trust X's promise to settle the debt at a later date.

*bump*

Well, that's a little better, Bitcoin. Not good. But better. Now how about we quit playing games and get serious? I don't want to end up as one of those poor schmucks who still has to work when he's 35.  Wink

as someone who is 31, i agree. Cheesy
