when the rate will rise again like before?  Cry

You might have to hold on to it for some months but you will be able to sell with a gain.  Many things in the works.

XMR has now resumed its "unofficial" 1:10 peg to ETH, I think there has to be a rational explanation for this, beyond market forces and invisible hand.

Leicester recently won the EPL championship despite 5000:1 odds, for some reason I suddenly thought about XMR.
What would William Hill offer as bettings odds for XMR reaching a certain price point in 2016?

Regardless, many here are basing their hopes on XMR replicating the performance of BTC in its early years.
One cannot just expect the future to be like the past, based on a statistical sample size of just 1.
BTC may very well be a one-off phenomenon, never to be repeated again.

Will XMR ever have a fairy-tale ending, just like Leicester?
Stay tuned, in 31 Dec 2020.

Soccer?  LOL WUT?

Impact of Leicester victory: a few dozen more Americans know how to pronounce "Leicester."

2064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL Is Craig Wright Satoshi Nakamoto? on: May 03, 2016, 01:31:48 AM
The Wired article was interesting and sometimes almost convincing.
If he is a fake, then the real Satoshi is glad to have some fool grab a bunch of attention.

Well there is Dave Kleiman, the guy who died, it's possible he was the driving force even though plenty about his final circumstances doesn't add up either.

An obsessive, reclusive genius with his own supercomputer(s)?  The mysterious death of his closest(?) associate?

The next season of All My Bitcoins is going to be even more exciting than the thrilling Great Blocksize War story arc.

Every time I think 'this can't possibly get any more dramatic, engrossing, and entertaining' the writers pull a rabbit out of their hat.

With all of the drama surrounding to supposed reveal of the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, a lot of news is not getting the attention it deserves. Gavin Andresen has allegedly validated Craig Wright’s claims as being Satoshi, but at the same time, his commit access to Bitcoin Core’s Github project has been removed.

2065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [DASH] Dash - Building the IoM | Dash Nation Progress Thread on: May 01, 2016, 06:49:36 AM
Don't you thinks it's a bit odd to write an article purporting to be about "The Origin of Dash" but "accidentally" forget to mention the "accidental" instamine and subsequent/compounding radical emission cut?

Not at all. As we have repeatedly explained to you, the instamine has been dealt with, and is a non issue for most people. I understand that you and your band of detractors like to beat a dead horse until it is no longer recognizable as a horse, but for the rest of us, we're moving on. Progress. That's what Dash is about. The offer to join us still stands.

The article is called "The Origin of Dash."  It's about things that have been dealt with in the past.

The omission of the instamine and emission cut parts of Dash's origin is pretty glaring.

"Oops, we forgot to mention the launch was a fiasco" isn't good journalism.

Bitcoinist should be teaching the controversy, not failing to report the damning devils in the details.

"Now that I know more about the instamine...I'm no longer a fan of Dash" said Tone Vays.

So much for your Hillaryesque "at this point what difference does it make" excuse!

Bitcoinist readers deserve better than one-sided puff pieces from writers that can't be bothered to ask tough questions about real issues.
2066  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: May 01, 2016, 06:11:48 AM
If I understand you correctly, then metal has a worth beyond jewellery.    Gold could still be used as money even if it was a dull green and disliked in appearance, the value comes from its unique elemental properties I think such as being very malleable and easy to measure, fairly durable and unreactive to corrosion.   But yea I agree that base demand does help from those desire its look but I think it'd be used anyway.  Gold does have industrial use but mostly its too expensive

The bitcoin has a worth for allowing reliable transactions.   Its a super token passable to anyone and very fast and cheap, I guess thats its 'worth'    Way back  a few years I thought namecoin would be worth alot of money as it has a side function as an alternative DNS chain for holding webpage addresses.  I thought that could be its base use, bitcoin has some kind of record holding ability but not really enough to give a base use to it so far as I know

new china gold price fix

news to me but Ive been convinced China is a major player in gold and currency generally and that will change the world quite possibly.   Their power play in the south east asia sea and so on, they are not happy just to be 2nd to dollars forever

The Dragon is tunneling its way out of the Dollar Trap, using a golden shovel to escape the exploitative western banksters.

Meanwhile in the Elephant, jewelery has been used as a wearable store of wealth/slush fund/ready cash (ie money) for ~5k years.

All elements have unique properties.  Decorative status signaling in cavemen was probably the antecedent of gold's monetary role, as it linked barter economies to advanced markets more conducive to capital accumulation.

Gold's intrinsic value is bling, not boring industrial stuff.   Cool

Lying by omission, otherwise known as exclusionary detailing, is lying by either omitting certain facts or by failing to correct a misconception.

Selective reporting in the media

Media outlets are under pressure to make money, and an easy way to do this is by breaking sensational stories. This can encourage the media to overplay news stories or leave out information that would detract from an otherwise great story.

There goes Bitcoinist's journalistic integrity and reputation, if they ever had any.

We have too many people like Brian Armstrong, Mike Hearn, and companies like Elliptic, Chainalisys, and the recent MIT initiative that think Bitcoin is being held back by the anonymity features.

These people are dead wrong and if anyone is going to be responsible for killing Bitcoin it will be this crowd. I personally do not think they will succeed, but governments do not worry me when it comes to Bitcoin. What worries me is Bitcoiners that do not understand the value of “fungibility” and why it’s 100 times more important than transactions per second. The Blockstream/Bitcoin Core team understands this well and as long they are the guardians of the code, I remain optimistic.

This is the guy who only liked one altcoin, Dash, until he found out its "accidental" instamine and radical emission cut are shady as hell.

Pre-sale of blockchain Membership to Drachmae Proof of Concept to Reality.

After the successful Proof of concept on the Island of Agistri back in 2015 various verticals was established to disrupt the Travel sector using blockchain technology alongside providing benefits to the Travellers.

Supporting Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ether, Dash, NXT, BitcoinDark, Doge, Transfercoin and Nautiluscoin.

Due to specific delays over the past 6 months that held the project going forward this enabled better negotiations with set providers to deliver better services.

What was the delays? Same as usual funding!

Due to disruption and work that was done in 2015 the project gathered support from channel partners who like the idea of disruption in the travel sector, so Drachmae is now in the position to release of the VIP blockchain membership which is resellable onto another in the similar manner as a private golf club or gym membership. www.drachmae.club

500 @ 300 $ until 19/05/2016

When the 500th Early worm membership has been sold we will initiate the final licences and final development of the travel members portal. (12 to 16 weeks) the goal to achieve is to be ready for September for the Football season so that we may support football clubs and there fans in Europe.

There is also branches of Drachmae being set up and getting ready to go to market in India and Singapore

500 @ 350 $ until 02/06/2016

When the 500th Early bird membership has been sold we will be able to release a new multi wallet that will support the DT Token for loyalty and support the following currencies: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ether, Dash, NXT, BitcoinDark, Doge, Transfercoin and Nautiluscoin.
Shortly after we will also make available a Virtual and Physical Visa/Mastercard connected to the wallet and APP. (Visa Mastercard will take 6 to 12 Weeks)

500 @ 400 $ until 16/06/2016

When the 500th Lunch worm membership has been sold a separate development team will start to work on the browser similar to Ethereum Mist browser that will specifically handle Drachmae Exchange from where you will have your smart contract based membership and be able to Trade your VIP Membership.
Drachmae exchange will also support the following Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ether, Dash, NXT, BitcoinDark, Doge, Transfercoin and Nautiluscoin “USD, GBP and Euro later on more Fiat currencies later on.

Drachmae Exchange will also provide Geo Mapping to support Drachmae Connect a global business trade network portal enabling business members and users to find Accepting location and physical locations to exchange local currency and Digital Currency.

1000 @ 450 $ until 30/06/2016

Now we come to the interesting part of the project, DT Chain will start to be rolled out the permission based network that will enable the network to leverage functions of Ethereum such as smart contracts and some core functions of NXT as a public ledger. To kick off the network DT Chain will roll out up  to 100 Permission based Nodes to support the network of its own.
Once the 1000th Membership is sold we will open up the networks to be obtained by the public and the key area of interest with DT Chain is the fact it can leverage functions from any public chain and DT Chain can be used to create a network within a network.
Banks wishing to control its own network and data but also needs to make transaction outside of its network or if certain information for a jurisdiction is required to be stored in its territory it can be done over those local supporting nodes. (This also enables 1000s of Transactions Per second)

7500 @ 500 $ Start 14/07/2016

Normal retail price to the VIP Membership
Launch of Beta Version of Travel App Game on Android
Launch of Travel Roaming Sim Network
Launch of Drachmae Connect business Network Portal
Launch DT-Token Asset Pool PRM service

www.drachmae.club

Stop spamming this everywhere.

Nobody wants your lame "VIP Membership" (LOL).

The Official GUI is being written.  Emission drops lower with every block.  RingCT and multisig are being planned.  People are starting to find out how much they want/need fungibility and how ring sigs are currently the only proven way to get there.

Couldn't you have said all of that a year ago???

GUI funding is a recent development.  RingCT and multisig are also recent.  Higher public awareness of fungibility and ring sigs is a new trend as well, thanks to Chainalysis, ChainAnchor, bootlicking Coinbase shitlords, and Gmax|CT.

Even block reward subsidies were much higher a year ago.

So no, I could not have (truthfully and accurately) said all that a year ago.  But thanks for asking!   Smiley

tl;dr Coinbase is Gox on steroids

Quote from: Ilogy
Some people say that the anti-Coinbase sentiment on r/bitcoin is politically motivated because Brian Armstrong came strongly for big blocks and spoke extremely negatively against the core devs.

In my view, if that is the case it only reinforces my conviction that r/bitcoin is on the right side. Bitcoin is about monetary freedom, direct peer-to-peer exchange, and decentralized power. Coinbase is diametrically opposed to all these, it is about surveillance and censorship over what you can do with your money. It is about third-party control over your money. It is about centralized power, and this is particularly reinforced by their endorsement of big blocks and the centralization pressures that would come with that. Put simply, Coinbase is about turning Bitcoin into fiat money, and while all fiat exchanges suffer from this pressure, Coinbase embraces it with evil pleasure. I think many in the community were willing to overlook the faults of Coinbase as par for the course when dealing with the legacy system and government. But when they came out so ferociously against the core devs I think it shook everyone up and made us wonder, appropriately so, what this company is really all about.

MtGox was vital to Bitcoin's early adoption, it was a necessary evil. But make no mistake, it was evil, and the same is absolutely true of Coinbase. This necessary evil that Coinbase represents becomes addictive because of how easy it is to use, that is what draws in so many users who otherwise would be too intimidated by bitcoin. But just like MtGox which gave Bitcoin a very tarnished reputation, Coinbase has been slowly and surely corrupting the very soul of Bitcoin by hooking users into an addiction to the very things Bitcoin is designed to free us from and eroding Bitcoin's fungibility. I genuinely consider Coinbase to be one of the greatest threats to Bitcoin's long term success, and the threat is only larger precisely because of the crucial role they play in Bitcoin's early adoption. This is, again, no different than how MtGox was a threat to Bitcoin's long term success and its collapse set bitcoin back significantly. We as a community need to wean ourselves off of this addiction and promote, encourage, and help finance those companies and DAOs that offer fiat exchange services in ways that don't undermine bitcoin's basic integrity.

I agree Breaking Bad is the only TV show made in the last 10 years worth watching

That's crazy talk.  We're living in a golden age of binge watching (and I've never owned a TV, just a Full HD laptop and good headphones).

Yes, there was a very long drought of good (or even tolerable) American shows, with only South Park remaining watchable.  But now we have GoT, Last Man On Earth, Walking Dead, Man In The High Castle, Marco Polo, Major Lazer, Rick & Morty, and our own excellent version of Shameless.  Plus the guilty pleasure of gold mining reality TV.   Cheesy

Meanwhile, the UK has provided gobs of fantastic entertainment.  Ideal.  Utopia.  Hinterland.  Broadchurch.  Peaky Blinders.  (Original) Shameless.  Wolf Hall.  Doctor Who.  Mighty Boosh.  Nighty Night.  Outnumbered.  Life On Mars.  Black Mirror.  Nathan Barley.  Posh Nosh.  Mitchell & Webb.  Peep Show.  Would I Lie To You?  IT Crowd.  Psychoville.  The League of Gentlemen.  The Game.  Sherlock.  Jekyll.  Look Around You.  Secret Diary of a Call Girl.  Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (LOL).

That's only the must-see blockbuster "you are doing life wrong if you miss these" short list.  Lots of one-off gems including Terry Pratchett's Going Postal, Dead Set, Hunderby, Not Going Out (Season One), The Trip, and Dirk Gently out there as well.

Don't get me started on engrossing documentaries such as Cold War Hot Jets, Joanna Lumley's Greece (and Trans-Siberian Express), A Year In Burgundy, etc.

You need a tracker invite?   Cool

Back on topic, I don't see any whales dumping.  No market sells over 0.1% of mainbody emission (18.4k XMR) as we're drifting lower on low volume.  Yawn.  We'll go back up when volume returns.

In this secular bear market, 200k is still looking like the new 100k.

The Official GUI is being written.  Emission drops lower with every block.  RingCT and multisig are being planned.  People are starting to find out how much they want/need fungibility and how ring sigs are currently the only proven way to get there.
