1361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 09, 2016, 09:44:11 AM
Absolutely seems a bit strong.  I wasn't actually speculating about what they are doing or a planning to do so much as - a more interesting question - what they will in fact do, in the future.  It is just possible that I follow the culture and politics of the PRC more closely than some readers, and my opinions about their behaviour might be more informed than some.  But it's hard to know that unless we articulate those ideas for discussion.   Hopefully, the best-informed and most soundly-reasoned ideas will become evident, and help us all to have a clearer view - if only marginally so in cases where the S/N ratio is unfavorable (such as this one).  I can certainly observe what I consider to be the rational self-interested choices of the various tiers of China's highly stratified class structure.  A more nuanced view would game-out the choices we can expect from each of the 5 or 6 major classes, rather than making a naive inside-outside group distinction.

I withdraw the adverb 'absolutely' m'lord Smiley

I am sure you are well read on matters of the PRC but never-the-less, that is no substitute for experience of the place or the people; the number of gweilos who claim great insight from behind a desk on the other side of the world is as long as the great march. Wink

I'm interested in your description of the 5 or 6 major classes (a traditional view would be 4, a contemporary view that social mobility is increasing) - could you expand?

As a quid pro quo I thought you'd be interested in this interview with American Sidney Rittenberg who first met Mao in the 1940s and he spent decades living in Communist China - very insightful and poignant.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0468lw7

Sentimental insight and bourgeois poignancy aside, Mao hasn't been even remotely relevant for a very long time.  He's forgotten (except for the trendy Che t-shirt crowd), and spinning in his grave since Deng's "To get rich is glorious" mixed capitalism paradigm emerged decades ago.

Mao's Marxist idiocy caused 100,000,000+ Chinese citizens to starve to death and resulted in the demographically disastrous one child policy.

The one child policy, wildly unpopular everywhere and unenforceable outside of urban jungles, is being abandoned in yet another "FUCK YOU" to The Chairman and his communist impracticalities.

Anyone with an education knows his agricultural/riparian polices were an unprecedented disaster of mass murder, but also understands why it is impolite and impolitic to speak of that fact within CPC's zone of influence.

Please leave the long-ago miasma of Soviet revolutionary bluster and undergraduate armchair socialism, then join the rest of us in the real world of supply and demand, as the bulk of the nothing-if-not-practical PLA did around the time of Nixon's visit.
1362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH Collapsing Monero UP on: September 09, 2016, 09:17:46 AM
Any idea when Dash will be out of the top 10? I believe their development team have lost focus and now cannot catch up with Monero. They also shifted their strategy and want to become a legitimate payment platform. But how can they compete with the giant bitcoin?

No Idea, but DASH has far more functionality than BTC.

The Instamine will always show its ugly head from time to time and will be a hard thing for DASH to ever permanently brush away.

I think that its flawed however to think that its an advantage to be based on BTC code and even incorporate their updates into their wallet.
The whole "compatibility" thing is just a way to attract those who are into Bitcoin to look at a "quality" altcoin perhaps?

Either way, any blockchain technology can be made mainstream and used as a payment processor etc.

Always better to think outside the square and use fresh code.

Because of the network effect, DASH has far less functionality than BTC.

One example of this is the difference in mixing times and efficacy.  BTC mixing is faster and more effective than Dash's, due to the much larger number of participating individuals.

Bitcoin has critical mass.  Dash does not.

Dash doesn't even have a legal opinion on whether or not Masternodes are illegal unregistered HYIP securites.

Dash is also afraid to put up a bug bounty.  Say what you will about ShadowCash, but at least they embraced the known best practice of rewarding people for looking at their code/crypto.

DashHoles don't want to know if their money-laundering HYIP is illegal.

DashHoles don't want to know if there are massive flaws in their code and roll-your-own crypto.

That is not "far more functionality."  That is just cargo cult bullshit.   Cheesy
1363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why the darkcoin/dash instamine matters on: September 09, 2016, 09:04:28 AM
Biggest issue with DASH is the amount of DASH taken up in masternodes is over half the amount in circulation!

Great way to reduce supply and increase the price.

The instamine issue is always going to hang around also.

The DashHole True Believers don't know how to deal with the Instamine.

Sometimes they pretend it wasn't as bad as a pre-mine, sometimes they pretend it wasn't a big deal, and sometimes they pretend it was a good thing.  Totally schizo, but expected given the fractured mindset of a cult brainwashing victim.

The funniest and most ironic attribute of the Dash scamcoin fiasco is that despite their Masternodes artificially decreasing supply, the market cap has fallen far behind Monero's, and despite their marketing budget user/market adoption is also lagging far behind Monero's.

1367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DASH Collapsing Monero UP on: September 09, 2016, 01:38:42 AM
monero is the most private, block size is not an issue and blockchain pruning would work well for an anon currency anyway!

Only thing i dont like about monero is the transaction size, most of my mined stuff is worthless because of the micro payments made to me by the pool.

I would imagine the micro payments have nothing to do with monero, but simply the pool software/settings/payment policy.

Yeah but why should the small transactions cost so much to make?

My total of Monero in my wallet is almost worthless because the fees to consolidate the small payments into full coins is almost worth the monero itself.

Now with bitcoin, if i had tons of micro payments made to my wallet, i dont have to do that at all, my wallet sees it joined together.

Is the fee still too high with mixin=0?  You could sweep the dust together with that, then resend the combined total with a higher setting.

The issue is extra overhead costs incurred by the privacy provided by Cryptonote protocol's larger transaction footprint.

Moving Satoshis is relatively cheap and some miners consolidate dust to help the network.

Joining Tacoshis is harder because of the higher required fee relative to the size of the small inputs.

As its currently fairly unprunable UXTO set grows without bound, Monero cannot subsidize low/zero fee tx and must discourage on-chain micro-tx, until payment channels are available.

Perhaps some day we'll have an IntelliHashing Smart Wallet which will solo mine the blocks required to move around otherwise uneconomical amounts of XMR.   Cool

Good news everyone!

Any chance of xmr.to being a market maker for https://market.bitsquare.io/?market=xmr_btc?

Given the option, I'd pay a bit extra to help the distributed exchange.
1369  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: September 08, 2016, 04:51:14 PM

(  I'm not sure of the logic of the above poster, but offering a swap is hardly abandonment)( maybe this person can go harass nxt community about abandoning nxt1.0)

So I still have not gotten a clear answer on this:

What is proposed to happen to the BTCD that has been swapped for Komodo?

Nothing will happen to it.

Currently BTCD is used by Iguana, so the network will continue running to make sure nothing breaks. However, over time everything will be moving to Komodo blockchain, and at the end BTCD will have no role left in the SuperNET ecosystem. Komodo is the new BTCD, it just got an upgrade to the privacy technology and a new consensus method dPoW.

Does this answer to your question? Smiley

Is it possible that a new role could be made for btcd once things move to komodo?

I like how you dishonestly use the word "swap" to imply a 1-to-1 trade of BTCD for Komodo, when in fact what actually happening is massive dilution of BTCD bagholders' equity.

And now you and ICOscam777 will continue to bog down and confuse the conversation with pages of tedious hand waving garbage dithering over exactly what and how and when dilution will occur.

Characterizing scam busting as "harassment" is equally precious.  Oh poor you!  Leave James Alone!   Roll Eyes
1370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][KMD][dPoW] Komodo ICO - Zero Knowledge Privacy Secured by Bitcoin on: September 08, 2016, 04:21:33 PM
I know jl777 is a famous developer. But can someone summarize how many ICOs he launched and how many he delivered? I read somewhere that he likes to abandon projects.

Please don't fall for the usual fud, there is expecially one notorious troll Icebreaker that continues making stuff up. He sounds retarded if you know the facts. The only past Ico was Supernet and the first release of its core component Iguana is around the corner. No project has been abandoned, James is working very hard but the to-do list is long. By January with both Iguana and Komodo released the future will look pretty good.

A year ago, I predicted BTCD would be abandoned before being completed, and that's exactly what happened.

My fears were well-founded.  My uncertainty based on the fact ICOscam777 has left dozens of unfinished project in his wake.  My doubt turned out to be the correct assumption.

I'm not the only one who says this; many victims of these ICO scams have spoken out.

EG:

how many ICOs has jl777 launched over the years?

Here's a (partial) list of ICOscam777 projects:

After spending hundreds of hours roaming this forum I must tell you I feel JL777 is the biggest scammer around.
The amount of BTC gathered for BTCD/superNET/NXT-assets issued by his gang is just horrendous.

And the feeling is like everybody is waiting for the miracle tech to come out if not today, tomorrow for sure.
Just scan the thread for BTCD, its almost, almost, almost there. It's finally coming together ... stuff like this on whatever page you chose.

But for BTCD in particular, I see the same wallet used for many months now. I know there is beta around, but it's almost 2 years since BTCD was born. 2 years.

Aaaand there is new project born every day. And new ones after that. And some ideas for a brand few new ones in the middle.

Two years almost passed. InstantDEX is almost ready?

Many of those assets were dividends, however the case of cryptocard is very disappointing. Jl777 launched that fundraiser on the btcd thread, collected 10k btcd from memory when it was worth a lot more, but now he says that was coinomat project. Jl777 converted all his cryptocard assets into WAVES, then sasha mentions after the waves ico ends that coinomat business will likely be sold (who would buy coinomat?), and definitely not part of WAVES.

The cryptocard asset was a fail, and jl777 raised considerable funds, and dumped his own assets, probably knowing sasha's intentions to abandon it.

Jl777 started cryptocard, raised the funds, subcontracted sasha and coinomat, then adandoned the project and bailed to waves, probably with insider knowledge, leaving bagholders still thinking an anon debit card is still being worked on.

No project has been abandoned?

I staked 2 years long to keep the network alive and it feels a little now that we have to stand back in the line and in front of us are the new believers.

Shocked  It doesn't feel right.   Cry

I'm sure you have the best intentions with all this, but for me personally it feels like a rip off. Price of BTCD will go until the ICO to the price you guys have decided, so at the end we get nothing while we supported the network and the coin till the end.

You need to accept the fact that ICOscam777 is bending you over and taking advantage of your ignorance.

Don't worry if it "doesn't feel right."

You'll get used to it after a few more ICO scams.

Good thing MAID already gave you previous experience in being taken advantage of, am I right?   Grin

I am disappointed too. I was waiting for this coin to at least get back to the price bought it for 2 years ago, and now you priced it at 0.0053
Just give BTCD holders fixed % of 100 mil KMD.

This.

Atleast it could have been a 50% bonus on the last known price before the announcement. BTCD investors getting the D.

Sorry guys.  It was 100% predictable that ICOscam777 would be giving BTCD investors "the D."

Citation:

BitcoinDark is down over 43% this month. What happend?  Huh

BitcoinDark is a project that will be obsolete before it is (if ever) finished.

Bitcoin has Confidential Transactions on the way.  Monero has Compact Confidential Transactions on the way.

BitcoinDark, besides having a stupid and unforgivably misleading name, is completely useless.

There is nothing to do with BTCD except send them in and out of SuperNet all day.

Investors want RESULTS, not empty PROMISES to finish VAPORWARE.

Ya man, it's been obvious for months that BTCD is a complete scam:

(1)  It's still the same copy/paste coin that any competent crypto Dev could launch in a few days.

(2)  Zero improvements or even a single upgrade since launch in mid-2014.

(3) "Teleport" is just a buzzword in an ancient "dark paper"... unimplemented and will never be peer reviewed.

(4)  The "dividends" are fake...
jl777 pulled at least couple of million $$$ from NXT AE "investors"... then pays you stupid mooks $50, if that.

(5)  InstantDEX doesn't work and nobody understands it... so blaming it on "lack of testers" is laughable.

(6)  Pangea poker is the biggest Red Flag...
The design is something that would be laughed off the web in 2002...
Only a complete idiot would play "poker" with ZERO protection in place against collusion.

(7)  You guys are "investing" in  buzzwords and an Excuse Machine....
While jl777 sits in Riga, Latvia assuming a staunch NATO ally would never extradite him to Lower Manhattan.

tl;dr

You guys are watching a very poorly executed Exit Strategy... it would be infinitely smarter to just disappear.

Hello every one !:)

I was assigned a job of investigating various cryptocurrencies, I specialise in cryptography, reverse engineering and low level stuff, I've also got a degree in Economics. I come from a research community I am related to an university which I wouldn't like to mention right now. We are to come up with our own cryptocurrency, I mean.. the project will be using cryptocurrency and blockchain technelogy it will be sort of innovative, there is a whitepaper ready.

BUT... we  are now heading towards the implementation stage and I am researching various altcoins in the wild. I believe that we first do reseach whitepapers see what is around and what is criticised. I've been invesigating DASH for a couple of hours today, I have opened a seperate thread.

If some members would like to point me in a couple of facts why do they believe DASH to be scam - I'm all ears Smiley facts please.

AFAIK only Boolberry is Officially planning to stay competitive with Monero's RingCT and other advances in Cryptonote protocol technology.

I updated checkpoints

https://github.com/BlockchainDevelopmentCompany/boolberry/commit/7f11d7872549ae649675c892e234dd284beb56c4

This is the first commit under the Blockchain Development Company, and a benign change that will not fork the network, but actually help prevent it from forking as Boolberry is currently hardly decentralized.

More announcements and support coming soon. People want to know the roadmap, intentions. This is primarily around modernizing Boolberry's code base to the standards of other cryptonote networks, initially. We would like to get the blockchain out of memory and addressing bugs.

When Monero team releases RingCT, we'll merge it.

When Monero team releases RingCT, we'll merge it.

That's great news!   Cool

It's necessary to have overflow+backup capacity in another time-tested implementation of the same privacy tech as Monero, especially as fees on the more popular coin become uneconomic for marginal use cases.
1377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: September 07, 2016, 10:48:26 PM
Most of the thread is buy and hold is my guess. It's just the traders who have to condition peoples minds by repeatedly posting financial advice. I think many have learnt not to fall for it, but XMR has a 2 year history of bears winning all of the battles. This one seems no different.

The bears won many battles, but still lost the war against the bulls.

They have short term tactical advantages, we have long term strategic superiority.

Bears tamp down irrational exuberance with TA, while bulls just keep building on fundamentals.

Classic tortoise vs hare scenario.  Ultimately, victory goes to the side with lower time preferences.

Meanwhile in the trenches, I've fatally gored more than one bear and have a nice collection of cozy rugs to put in front of the fireplace on my space yacht.

Now that they are harder to get, I find that I want them more.  Funny how that works.

Monero may be equally or perhaps more so a (Gresham-powered) Giffin good than Bitcoin. Never thought anything could do that, until the fungibility issue came to the fore.

For the benefit of latecomers, here are some shiny info-graphics they may have missed.

Aaaand there is new project born every day. And new ones after that. And some ideas for a brand few new ones in the middle.

Two years almost passed. InstantDEX is almost ready?

BTCD, after doing nothing for two years, is being abandoned.  Turns out BTCD was just a research project, not a serious effort with long-term committed devs.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS   Cheesy

Now shut up and buy into Kodomo, the replacement scam.

These gullible bagholding chumps love to throw their money away into every new ICO scam jl777 hypes.

I warned them jl777 never finishes anything he starts.

I even predicted this exact thing would happen; it's obvious when you see his pattern of ICO-hype-abandon-repeat.

Nobody should have the slightest bit of sympathy for fools who keep the faith in their Dear Leader, after having been burned so many times.

NEW FLASH: SUPERNET is being abandoned in favor of jl777's new project SUPER-DUPER-ULTRANET!!!!   Grin

I don't think jl777's habit of starting projects faster than he finishes old ones is good for SuperNet or its constituent coins.

For God's sake man, stop adding (and by adding I mean "announcing an intention to someday add") new coins/projects/products until at least the majority of previous commitments have substantial progress.

EG:  BBR was supposed to be a "core" coin, but have we seen a single line of code to that end?

EG2:  Pangea Poker was supposed to be out in "early April" but that date slipped without even an explanation.

This cancerous feature bloat isn't being rewarded by the market, and resembles GAW/PayCoin's 'start new scams faster than they can be exposed' strategy.

Let's try doing one thing and doing it better than anyone else, instead of chasing overambitious pipe dreams of being all things to all people for all purposes.

James quietly is building a purely fictional spaceship, but Just the believers know when this spaceship will launch into the sky, then what will happen.

If hard to understand for you until now, certainly you will see in future there is just one James in crypto world! just one James!

You were right!

BTCD the purely fictional spaceship will never launch.

Now the True Believers are praying for some new fictional spaceship called Komodo.
