2081  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 04, 2020, 11:13:38 PM
Don't make the mistake of thinking you won't lose Xem. Highest probably Xem will lose value because of the 2 chains and Xym will be better (at least that's what they try to make us believe). Just look at other blockchain projects who had a similar development -> it didn't end up well. The smart people will dump a day or two before the snapshot. Only the gullible will be left holding the bag, thinking that they will have gained twice the value. Don't let the Foundation trick you by telling you that they will figure out a way to keep the Xem chain alive.

It's not that hard to keep alive. What will be hard is retaining any value.

No one should be buying XEM for any reason other than getting XYM. Once it's over XEM will plummet. It may well make a pointless comeback during generalised shitcoin pumps as literally anything will so I wouldn't burn my private keys just in case.

I don't really see how they're going to make XYM visible enough for it to get anywhere near XEM's position or former positions. I certainly hope they do have some impressive plans. If XEM got significantly higher than it is at present during a pre split pump I'd be very tempted to dump and walk away without looking back.

Completely agree with you, except from the community funds. The community voted to grant the Foundation a pot of money. so they didn't just have access to it. I'm afraid soon they will come back asking for more while they haven't delivered what they had been so enthusiastic about a year ago. They spent soooo much on marketing but yet nothing to show up for.

By the way super weird that Luxtag is asking for donations for their company  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Hmm. I completely forgot there was a public vote about that. The vast majority of marketing spend happened before the present foundation. The old one is responsible for the total squandering of everything. I seem to recall it was tens of millions. I don't have particularly strong feelings about the present set up. They have a lot of work to do with fewer resources. If Alex hadn't won and the old guard got in again there would be no upgrade at all most likely. I seem to remember they were actively blocking it or simply doing nothing.

Wondering how can Iowa vote for a gay? Huh

Pressing a button, baby.

How could you have missed that detail?

The Irish PM likes his fellas too and no one there seems to mind. That traditionally hasn't been a bastion of inclusiveness until recent times.
2083  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: Bitcoin SV (BSV) - fake team member and plagiarized white paper on: February 04, 2020, 10:25:28 PM
Pack it up, ladies. The verdict is in.

As ever I have no problem believing some OG Bitcoin fans are unhappy with the direction BTC has taken.

What I can never believe is that BSV or BCH are anything other than giant turds dropped from the flappy anus of pisstaking that gob all over the ideas that Bitcoin stands for. So they in theory scale better. Erm, what about the other bits?

Gigamegs don't quite make up for the one miner, 51% attacks, countless dodgy hard forks, incompetent development, miner tax attempts, 20 grand nodes and about a million other things.
2084  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can you exchange USDT for real Dollars? on: February 04, 2020, 08:59:19 PM
I don't doubt kraken is legitimate but I legitimately hate them, they are the biggest pains in the ass to get verified with. It would honestly be easier to send them a vial of blood but somehow I'm sure they would say that it wasn't enough and they need you to try again.

Honestly I scanned front/ back of the drivers license, wrote a letter with a signature held it all to my face and took a bunch of photos and still denied. Like for fuck sake boys, I'll just use another exchange.

I verified a long, long time ago and back then it was nothing other than ID scan and proof of address scan. I haven't heard anything from them since and have put a fair bit of money through there. Maybe they've tightened up or had a crap phase that has since passed.
2085  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can you exchange USDT for real Dollars? on: February 04, 2020, 08:37:30 PM
Yes. Kraken has a USD/USDT market.

https://www.kraken.com/prices

On the top left hit the grey button and scroll down to the USDT markets and you'll find USD in there. I don't know how good Kraken's USD banking is. It might be crap.

Of course you should be able to do it through Tether themselves but we're not supposed to talk about that.
2086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A clue on how to make them see that bitcoin isn't a scam on: February 04, 2020, 07:50:08 PM
Does it sometimes means that if you wink, then people might think that you are really imparting them that bitcoin is a scam? I think other gesture might be better other than winking, or maybe, we have a different culture where people could perceive gestures differently.

I prefer to leave them wondering. I know what people are like when it comes to this type of thing. There's no point in talking them in or out of anything. They'll continue to believe what they choose to believe and nothing you do or say or put in front of them will change it. I'm not going to waste my or their time.

Another pearl necklace of wisdom here. And very sobering too.

Hey, maybe there's another bunch of lawsuits brewing. Perhaps the final act will be him as 'good' Satoshi suing himself as 'bad' Satoshi'? I'll bet Dennis Rodman can get him some Pyongyang court time.

Could be the version of the OS on your device.

No, sir.

My phone is pretty ancient but it's not on the google play website at the moment either. I'll see if it's back in a few days.

I don't trust any of these app/card 'banks' including Revolut. You see people in consumer moaning columns running their lives through them suddenly getting cut off completely and when it goes wrong you have one phone line that'll never get you to a real human. They're strictly toys for very occasional, and very low value, convenience as far as I'm concerned. I'll never go further with any of them.

I think I've got £24 on Wirex and £5.50 on Revolut. That feels about right.
2089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why are exchanges still listing shitcoins? on: February 04, 2020, 07:10:27 PM
This is a genie that'll never go back in the bottle. I expect there to be untold amounts of obscure exchanges in future. There'll always be a near infinite number of stupid people willing to take a bet and an untold number of people willing to supply their delusion.

It'll take place in largely ignored corners of the internet but they will always be out there from now on. It doesn't matter if a small number of well run exchanges dominate the world. There's always an outlier and always people who think they've stumbled across the 'next Bitcoin' hiding in the shadows.

Get used to it. It's only hotting up from here.
2090  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: February 04, 2020, 06:57:25 PM
I won't.

As long as it's cheaper and the app actually works I'm willing to sound it out. The shitcoin is stupid indeed but you don't need that any more. I certainly won't be utilising anything else they offer and won't be putting anything other than chump change through it.
2091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PSA: If gold were illegal... (Gold WAS illegal!) on: February 04, 2020, 04:29:41 PM
The prime difference between now and then it that people and capital are infinitely more mobile.

If the same were to be attempted today they would be able to go straight to my door. They would also find it empty as I'd be in the nearest country that wasn't pulling crap like that.
2092  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Swiss municipality (Zermatt) tax office now accepts-bitcoin! on: February 04, 2020, 10:40:26 AM
Does anyone know why they accept taxes using Bitcoin? In other words, is the acceptance that Bitcoin is a legal form of money (like cash) or is it merely a valuable asset?

Probably neither. They're going to treat it as similar to Visa or a cheque. It's just another method to transmit Swiss Francs to them. I doubt their other tax payers would be best pleased if the local budget was put into speculation.
2093  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Spain wants Gibealtar as part of Brexit. on: February 04, 2020, 02:13:30 AM
spain then will simply block trade with it, and gibraltar becomes an economic liability, because uk will all the time have to ship in food there.

The land border to Spain was shut for many, many years under Franco. If Gibraltans wanted to get to Spain they had to go to Morocco first and then cross the sea back again.

If it became fully Spanish that entire region would crater. It's totally broke and Gibraltar is the only economic engine in that area. Gibraltar as part of Spain is worthless other than restoring some pride.

No idea what the outcome will be but ultimately its residents should be the ones who have the greatest say.

I don't really get why it bothers the Spaniards, other than the chronic cigarette smuggling. I think it would be brilliant to have a Spanish enclave just over the road.
2094  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: February 04, 2020, 01:37:04 AM
All the enthusiasm for trying a new thing is gone, I'm just keeping it as an easy to fund back-up payment method but nothing more.

I'm going to give the crypto.com card a whirl. That's if it ever arrives as people seem to be saying it takes forever. Not sure what the fees are but my mystery Wirex app sluggishness is really getting on my tits now. Maybe there's a magnetic field in this valley that sucks internet time away.
2095  Economy / Economics / Re: Centralized exchanges have become the banks of the cryptocurrency world on: February 04, 2020, 12:06:21 AM
It's really about time that one decentralized exchange lead the way for this battle against these centralized exchange, they are the one who made the most profit in this industry, look at the number of ICO based exchange they are growing and looking to get a slice of the market, Binance has become an imposing monster in the community with their huge fee.

It's up to users to migrate, however from what I've seen so far nothing out there really cuts it other than Bisq and no one is using that either.

It needs to be properly decentralised for starters - ie not tied to a domain name or hosting as that can be hijacked.

As we've seen time and again most people want to centralise for the sake of convenience and hand holding. The ones who want to shun it are noble outliers.
2096  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Wirex- Bitcoin Debit Card | Buy Bitcoin | Mobile Banking | Send Money on: February 03, 2020, 11:26:07 PM
Anyone else noticed Wirex is no longer on Google Play? It's not showing up in my installed apps or library on there either. Still on the phone and tries to work when it can be bothered.

Is this a blip that comes and goes? I'm not sure I've noticed it with anything else installed on my phone. The app still takes a full 2-3 minutes before it's usable so perhaps they've run out of coal and favour with Google.
2097  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is the best way of selling small amount of bitcoin to tether? on: February 03, 2020, 08:47:05 PM
How long ago was that? Shapeshift membership became mandatory in October of 2018. Shortly after, wallets like Jaxx and Coinomi disabled in-wallet exchanges for anyone who didn't link a verified account.

Can't remember. i do remember it was Bitcoin Gold and that took so many confirmations I had to wait several days.

Am pretty certain I wouldn't have bothered with Shapeshift if it did require KYC. Plenty of exchanges I am signed up for would've done the job. Not surprised it's different now.
2098  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 03, 2020, 07:42:24 PM
+ammo

I'm pinning my life on this -

You can use it for impromptu kidney dialysis, hit yourself over the head for pain relief, fill woodland creatures with orangey syrup for a quick and nutritious meal, fire it at people and wipe your arse with it or simply plug it and get the fire brigade to remove it when sanitation returns.

It's a one stop retro survival engine.
2099  Economy / Economics / Re: Centralized exchanges have become the banks of the cryptocurrency world on: February 03, 2020, 07:04:35 PM
And I am not really against it as long as they do it right. The difference between central exchanges and banks is the fact that banks do not have the money they claim they do, whereas central exchanges all have that money, sure they are making a profit from just holding your coins, yet that doesn't change the fact that they still have it on their cold storage or on hot wallets just so they can withdraw.

Well, that's the great unknown. I'm sure places like Coinbase would quickly get whistles blown if giant holes were found in their claimed holdings. I couldn't say the same for many of the other 'top' exchanges. We have zero idea what's going on behind closed doors.

We're still transitioning into respectability. Look at Coinbase's BCH launch. If that was in the area of conventional finance they'd be nailed to fucking the wall for it.

I expect in future there'll be 10-15 titans worldwide with legacy investment and owners that decides what becomes top tier and what doesn't. Below that I don't think the tidal wave of nothing exchanges will ever let up.

If your coin manages to blow up the world organically then you'll have an in. There'll be no more buying or tricking your way to prominence.

Regarding ShapeShift, If I'm not mistaken, KYC is avoidable if you're using it through a third party wallet.

If I remember correctly I did have to create a Shapeshift account but didn't require KYC. I can't remember whether that was directly through Shapeshift themselves or one of these wallets.
