2161  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Cryptocurrency Needs Fair Taxation: Lawmakers Introduce Supportive Legislation on: January 27, 2020, 07:34:36 PM
I doubt there can even be and will ever be something like a fair taxation in the US.

Sensible would be good enough. Anyone would look at how it works in the US and immediately call it out for being insanely unwieldy and encouraging people to try to dodge it. There should be some pragmatism applied.
2162  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2020, 05:48:57 PM
Of course I know all that on a cognitive, intellectual level.  It is the emotional, visceral level I am having trouble with.

At least I'm not sitting here saying "I'm not racist but".

I would say you are being societiest rather than racist.

Much cooler.
2163  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC could reach 6 figures (rational explanation) on: January 27, 2020, 05:45:09 PM
I also hope that if bitcoin does get to those lofty price levels that it can stay there.  That's something I always worry about when it starts to blow up.  2017 was a euphoric year for anyone who owned bitcoin, but man....that hangover was a bitch.

It won't of course. It would be wonderful if it did.

If there's to be another explosion this will definitely be the last one where I'm near all in. It's just too goddamn dull to sit through another cycle of ruin. I want to be at least a semi impartial observer in future.

There's got to be a time when it does start to level off more, and of course it did this time compared to 2013 but it was still 83% down. I don't think this cycle will be the one to reach that phase but I hope at least it'll be a bit less violent in both directions.
2164  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Cryptocurrency Needs Fair Taxation: Lawmakers Introduce Supportive Legislation on: January 27, 2020, 05:09:19 PM
The US rules are flat out bonkers. I didn't realise it was from dollar one until it was pointed out to me. I can't believe any sensibly operated country would run like that. In the UK you have a tax free allowance up to a certain figure. At the very least there should be something similar there.
2165  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2020, 05:04:49 PM
I think I might be racist.

China is an incubator for everything bad; disease, pollution, and totalitarian methodology.

Their sheeplike, give-a-fuck attitude has become a hazard to all civilization.

Their "divergent cultural mores" around truthtelling are repugnant.

There, I said it.

And they'll say equally uncomplimentary things about white devils, but if we sit down and start talking like individuals we'll find we're all rather lovely and not responsible for the gross societies we find ourselves marooned in. The chicks are mental though.

And don't order the tortured bat if they invite you out.

Have we been paid a beer again? This week's payout is higher than it should be.
2167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Poll - How did you find out about Bitcointalk? on: January 27, 2020, 11:15:17 AM
A new thought about this topic - has anyone thought how their life might be different if they DIDN'T find Bitcointalk.org?

I found out about bitcoin elsewhere but i didn't learn about it properly until i found this forum. If I hadn't found this forum i think i'd be one of those people that's heard of cryptocurrency and paid it minimal attention. And F*CK how clueless I would have been about how much I'd missed out on.

I'm pretty sure I already owned some before turning up here but I would've missed out on many an alt if I didn't turn up. Maybe that's a good thing. Not sure.

It's interesting seeing how many people have never turned up here. I quite often see people elsewhere on crypto sites mention they've never been here. I couldn't imagine having that little engagement or curiosity.
2168  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [2020-01-25] Coinbase's Bitcoin Holdings Could Surpass 1 Million BTC Next Month on: January 27, 2020, 02:49:01 AM
It goes deeper than that.

I think they know they'll be nothing without bitcoin but also know it's forever beyond their control.

That must stick in his corporate craw.
2169  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2020, 12:34:50 AM
They get an Ewok civet cat in the face ?

I don't know what that is but I just added one.

And this is how Granny receives her morning tea from now on.

Can't be too careful.

yeah great

we can be the richest guys in the body dump

I've done my shopping for the week. Anyone who turns up at the door from now on gets welcomed thusly.

2171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sigh... Do i need to hold and sell it later or now? Quite tricky situation. on: January 26, 2020, 02:18:53 PM
What the heck are you talking about?

Sense.

If this is to keep a roof over OP's head or pay for life saving surgery you'd be a moron to risk it. If it's for a cost that can be deferred or avoided completely then that's a different matter.
2172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost BTC in hard drive failure, still have to pay taxes? on: January 26, 2020, 01:48:28 PM
@gentlemand how does the taxman find about these trades if the person doesn’t disclose it?, or do taxmen get inputs from the exchanges regarding these transaction can you clarify this part?.

It varies from country to country but the IRS in America has contacted exchanges asking for user details and the British equivalent will soon as well.

You may well be fine not disclosing anything but there's no telling what the future holds. One day there might be software that links you to everything you've ever done in cryptoland in less than a second and spits out a bill.
2173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sigh... Do i need to hold and sell it later or now? Quite tricky situation. on: January 26, 2020, 01:28:24 PM
If a fall in the price by then means you can't meet the expense and this is a totally necessary expense then it's an absolute no brainer. Get rid right now. Hope does not pay the bills.
2174  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 26, 2020, 11:07:05 AM
They have their own spam forum now. Imagine the amount of spam they'll be creating there which nobody is going to read.
They are that desperate.

It is clearly going down.

A forum filled with spam running a sig campaign that'll increase spam. And maybe the sig campaign will advertise a sig campaign.

My head is starting to spin.

I have to post this again.

2175  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin valuation forecast for 2020-2060 from $10K to $100K: Is it reasonable? on: January 26, 2020, 12:30:24 AM
I still stick with Satoshi's prediction of volume in future either being vast or zero.

By 2040, let alone 2060, $100,000 will seem like a laughable figure.

That's either because Bitcoin has been dead for decades and is now purely a fascinating part of history, or because that price will seem like chump change compared to what it really is.

I see no middle ground.
2176  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hackers and their use of mixing services on: January 26, 2020, 12:14:46 AM
Mixers are also businesses, like the exchanges.
Nothing stops them from an arrangement to not mix stolen coins.
Of course I don't know if this exists, nobody will confirm that.

When I've raised this possibility people have often come back saying mixers should not 'judge' which i think is total balls.

You can be a privacy believer and facilitator and not be a fan of enabling thieves to operate and escape. If I ran one any directly traceable stolen funds would be going straight back along with instructions as to where to ram their monies.
2177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The harmful side of quick merit earn method. on: January 26, 2020, 12:05:03 AM
Anyone thinking of trying to game this forum stands a high chance of being hammered. And sometimes it can happen years down the line like the slews of older accounts suddenly being wiped out for plagarism that took place years before.

There are people out there who are very vigilant, very sharp and very committed to nailing anyone they unearth and they seem be getting better at it. I think they go ludicrously overboard sometimes but they have the interests of keeping this place scum free at heart.

The chances are extremely high that they're considerably better at uncovering you than you are at staying covered. And it only takes one slip.

I myself mainly complain about my haemorrhoids, crap holidays and prostate the size of a basketball yet still pick up the odd merit without having to resort to subterfuge.

Being yourself ultimately produces much better and much more sustainable results and as a double bonus it's likely a shit ton less effort too.
2178  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost BTC in hard drive failure, still have to pay taxes? on: January 25, 2020, 11:37:30 PM
Are you sure you guys don't have a "casualty" tax deduction? In the states, you can file Form 4684 (Casualties and Thefts) to account for losses from any kind of act of God, hack, theft, etc. where you lost bitcoins. There are some limitations, though. This is the breakdown for a "tragic boating accident" sort of tax deduction in the US:

I've burnt everything the tax man has ever sent me unopened so wouldn't have a clue, but I've never heard of anyone talking about something like that. If it were that easy everyone would be saying their bank account caught fire when it was time the pay the tax bill.

The tax man don't give a shit you don't have the money now. It's your responsibility to have kept it back.
2179  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: January 25, 2020, 09:33:22 PM
The spammer uses a content spinning technique to try to avoid plagiarism detection.

What type of freak decides that's a topic vital to this forum AND decides to plagarise it too?

2180  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC could reach 6 figures (rational explanation) on: January 25, 2020, 08:40:16 PM
The only thing that'll make it happen is demand outstripping supply along with the gift/curse of market cap.

I can guarantee you that most of the people who make it happen won't care about hard money, government meddling or cross border freedom. They'll be after more dollars and nothing else.

It's conceivable it could happen in the next couple of years. If it does I really hope it attempts to stick somewhere around that level but we all know it won't. Plan accordingly.
