2181  Other / Meta / Re: Institute threadcrap fine/sticky for Marketplace & child boards on: September 29, 2013, 07:53:46 PM
No person may reply to this thread without paying a 1BTC fine. Should you post after I have posted this, without paying the 1BTC fine, a negative rating will be made against your account by me, and not removed until you pay the 1BTC fine. You may pay fines to 1FascistpopKgMzuXubvKZRwk1WqKjaiY8

(Wouldn't it be easier just to self-moderate the thread?)
2182  Other / Meta / Re: neg trust with 0 risked BTC shouldn't change color of trust rating on: September 29, 2013, 07:49:16 PM
I agree that there should be a yellow trust rating for other stuff (0 btc risked, but bad behavior).

However, I also think that it is unfair that some people like TradeFortress or John can leave a (fake?) trust ratings to anyone that they do not like and immediately put the guy in red, and in trouble.

Yes, they are trusted.
Yes, they did good things.

But it gave them too much power....
This is why I made this thread. Someone came to me and asked I remove positive trust from a person because they left unjustified negative feedback. I thought it was fine because the person who neg-repped did not enter an amount risked amount, which I didn't think caused the "on-forum" trust rating to change to that. He pointed out I was wrong.

In many ways, trust gives people all the power of a moderator in commerce (except to literally censor the person), but with none of the responsibility. I mean - with someone like TF or John who've accumulated so much trust, there's around a 0% chance of revoking their positive trust rating in the default list. I don't dislike the system, though - I just think it'd be nice if they could "moderate" without having to give that big red might-as-well-be-a-scammer tag - basically just give people more options in moderating. Alternately, something like a "tag" system for negative feedback could be interesting. When leaving feedback, there could be a box for up to x short tags. If the person leaving feedback is trusted by the person browsing the forum, those tags would appear in the on-forum trust panel.

30-39 open. I don't have the time (and I'm lazy!). E31's partially done. Freebie if someone wants an easy one. All the names are verified (had to email Mr. Landsman on the program director name), so that's a good load off. http://www.scribd.com/doc/171891732/LTBE31

Names aren't color-coded and there's still some short-hand.

I doubt it's unrelated.   Lips sealed

A manual?! Did you think you were buying a Dell? Tongue I remember my first couple FPGAs, and I had to scour for an hour to find a decent how-to. Cheesy

2186  Economy / Securities / Re: [SecondMarket] Bitcoin Investment Trust™ (Non-Official thread) on: September 29, 2013, 01:43:53 AM
Uh huh.

You must be over 18 to view the material on this site. Are you over 18?

Residents of the US are not permitted to access our gambling services. Are you a resident of the US?

Only accredited investors, as defined by the SEC, are permitted to invest in the Bitcoin Investment Trust. Are you an accredited investor?
2187  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US government shutdown on: September 28, 2013, 11:59:12 PM
Not affected. Don't care.

Well - unless the USPS needs operational funding they pretend they don't receive and makes service cuts. Then I'd be slightly affected.
2188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: VISA drops Americas largest gun shop on: September 28, 2013, 11:50:22 PM
I'm surprised more 'Murica gun nuts aren't all over Bitcoin since it keeps their purchases out of visa databases.
It's already pretty heavily logged and usually requires background checks, no matter how you pay.
ETA: Hyatt site says they already found another credit processor.
2189  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: September 28, 2013, 11:39:54 PM
Shortly after I updated BTC-qt to 8.5.1, I had Armory (0.87.2) losing and reacquiring the connection with BTC-qt every second or so. Closed+reopened Armory a couple of times. No change. Idem with BTC-qt closed+reopened (Armory closed), again no change. Had to  reboot the PC (W7 x64). Anyone else had this  before?
It's probably not actually connecting and reconnecting. It doesn't seem to handle notifications correctly in W7 (at least). If you receive a payment, the same can happen, where it "flickers" repeatedly on the screen for 2-10 minutes. I'd guess it lost connection once, then started "flickering." This happens to me more often than not using same version on same OS.
2190  Economy / Securities / Re: [SecondMarket] Bitcoin Investment Trust™ (Non-Official thread) on: September 28, 2013, 11:32:42 PM
It's only open to experienced investors with over $1m in liquid net worth. It's definitely a good way for a limited number of wealthy investors to invest in bitcoin, but it's not the same as ETF that would be open to all - aka, the Winklevii fund.
"Accredited investor" is usually a self-certification.  Wink
2191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING: SEC Charges pirateat40 With Running Bitcoin-Denominated Ponzi Scheme on: September 28, 2013, 06:15:50 PM
AH, now I finally know who pirateat40 is...

Some low life who made money ripping people off.

That describes about 10% of the Bitcoin user base, 15% of the mining pools and 25% of the businesses. lol

And about 12% of regular folks, 75% of auto repair shops, 55% of building contractors, 68% of computer repair shops, 48% of fast food establishments, 93% of foot ware makers, 36% of B&M stores, 100% of Apple and the Government.

So, the Bitcoin community is doing well! Yay!
Speaking of auto shops... Have a car firing on 4-5 of 6 cylinders. Took it into shop I usually get tires replaced at. I said it was fine to replace whatever's wrong without calling if under $250, or to call if it's a more expensive problem. I was figuring spark plugs or solenoid. They didn't check, instead just doing a tune-up. Still the same problem, no notes left, and they charged me $238.  Roll Eyes

I can't really imagine taking a PC in, saying the same thing, and have them come back saying they did a tune-up for $238, replacing the RAM and dusting everything off, but not fixing the problem.
2192  Economy / Services / Re: 0.4 BTC / month free (Best payouts - NO POSTING NEEDED & Updated :) on: September 28, 2013, 04:14:11 PM
What is accepted format for IIO GPG fingerprints? I tried... .... Hey, that's clever - I can't copy text off the site. Cheesy
Format I'm given is 40 characters (10 sets of four characters, spaced). Tried spaced and unspaced. Won't accept either. Am I missing something obvious?
Try just first 16 characters unspaced.
That doesn't do it for me, either. 1D2252C9FBF45D80EC34
2193  Other / Meta / neg trust with 0 risked BTC shouldn't change color of trust rating on: September 28, 2013, 04:10:12 PM
I actually thought this is how the ratings worked, but it appears this is no longer (or was never) the case.

While I think it's good for trusted people to be able to leave non-definite feedback (a warning based on unsavory activities, instead of only allowing negative trust ratings where someone was actually scammed), I think there should be ability to leave a kind of "non-definite" cautionary warning without changing the color of the user's "forum" trust rating (the info panel displayed when on a trust-displaying subforum - rather than on their trust profile).

Maybe instead, if a trusted user gives a user a negative rating with 0 risked BTC, the forum trust rating panel could display with the negative numbers, but not the big red warning display. In cases where the user is, say, trying to distribute malware, and it's proven malware, then a risked amount of a Satoshi could turn the forum rating of the malware-spreading user red. Maybe this is a complicated check to implement?

I like the idea of eliminating the "0% chance of collision" myth, though.

0.00000000000000000000000000026972258527189594206940146568988% chance per year sounds better.

Though, if we changed it to one of "your" addresses being stumbled upon with needle-in-a-haystack-finders (that's the uhh... technical term), and we'll say you have 100 addresses... without opening calculator again, it'd be more like
0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000026972258527189594206940146568988% chance per year.

It'd be a cool April 1st press release from the Bitcoin Foundation posting up some big red "ALERT!!!" blurb on how your Bitcoins aren't safe as there's a .000...% chance of it being stumbled upon.

And then the price of BTC drops to $5 each.
Yeah, right. People aren't that stupid. The way you make it sound, we probably spend tens of billions on bottled water more expensive per gallon than gasoline.

... It doesn't appear to be a gag site. There goes F-Secure's credibility right down the shitter, with a "chief research officer" like that.

"'I have a pebble watch, it has a GPU, it could mine Bitcoins, so does my fridge and my toaster – these are going to be used to mine Bitcoins,' he said."

My body is ready

These underground bunkers make me laugh!  All an attacker has to do is block the air holes and you are screwed.  Smiley
Wait... ........ wait. How does that work? What can an underground bunker protect you from? Armed land invasion if you hide it well enough in a forest? Natural disasters?

Even with expensive HVAC, you're probably still fucked in the event of a nuclear holocaust. Do they have some type of pray-to-God-it-doesn't-explode oxygen reserve further beneath the bunker?

Rise of Venice is still supposed to hit tomorrow. It doesn't have much hype or even information about it, but it's from Kalypso, so maybe some hope.

Dominions 4 is marked to be released in two days, though that's some type of "preliminary release date." If you pre-order, you can play the alpha - maybe prelim is beta. It's Dominions 3 (but 4), so they couldn't have introduced too many new bugs.  Cheesy

Mech Mice is supposed to be released on October 8th. Mech Mice is an online 3D "turn-based, tactical squad game" designed with tweens in mind (I have no idea if it's an MMO). Hype @ www.mechmice.com/‎

Defense Technica is slated to release for PC on October 10th. It's a TD designed for smartphones I've never played. It's supposed to be a fairly well-done implementation in the genre. Hype @ http://global.com2us.com/ (I think they were going for a unique way to write "come to us" and decided not to use "cum to us" - or it was already taken... hard to say.)

An "enhanced edition" of Baldur's Gate II is set to be released on November 15th (with the caveat of Atari having a hand in it). They already re-released BG1, which features "over 400 improvements to the original game," but I haven't gotten around to it. Somehow, they also released a phone version. Go figure. Hype @ http://www.baldursgate.com/
