2281  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s6 ? on: August 27, 2015, 09:23:50 AM
i think bitmain will discontinue miners with internal psu
s2, s4, s4+
and they will go with no internal psu
s1, s3, s5....

makes sense less cost to them and us if they pass it along , end the end they make more and stay top dog .
2282  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer s6 ? on: August 27, 2015, 08:47:46 AM

So people is speculating about s7 but they havent released the s6 yet ...

people having big hopes? it probably wont be released untill next year. and if there are some already made s7 they prob use them self Wink

there are two other threads on this.

and most of us would tell you the antminer s-5+ is the s-6  and for some reason only known by bitmaintech they called it the s-5+

Why would a company jump from a number  if they kept it nice and numbered since day 1?.

i think thatt they will put 2x s5+ on a server rack and call it s6 before the announce the real s7.

marketing tactics.

They make you happy whit some news, you save the money, they tell you that s6 will be released as the s7 protoypes are not even done yet Wink

It happens all the time MS just did it . and few others have in the past it nothing new to skip a number or two  Smiley . even if they started it out at 1 to what ever  , PC have been doing it for years .

AMD kind of did it .

with there new cards starting with the R series bitmain is no diff in that Degree just because it has one use doesn't  mean they won't change it to some name or way later on . as all said IBM PC started as joke, i meet the guy that introduced the first cheap IBM PC, he told me it was a joke,  they sold out in hours or one day i forget it was only like 10 k or so PC, they offered and ended up with 100 k in back orders, I believe it was. i can't prove i did but i did, it was many years ago .

yea it does throw you off and make you worry.  Maybe that's intended to .
2283  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 27, 2015, 08:06:24 AM

But i'm expecting the S7 to be within the same form factor/heat dissipation of the S5 so i would be surprised if the watt consumption would be over 690w at the wall at full speed.

I sure hope you are correct. It's just a bit worrisome that Bitmain introduced the S5+ "monster mine" about the same time. I'd rather they didn't always think "bigger is better".

some one said some place it was meant it to be a S6 but sense it didn't fit the u case thing they named it s5 +, how true that is can't say but make sense if it is .  which i hope it is or my home mining days are over once my S3 and S5 or any more S5 i may buy are no longer use full and no miner is to be had .

Sense they have listed  the S7 as  using  230 watts per th makes me think or feel positive thought it will start at 2.2/3 th with the same compact size or smaller then the S3 and S5 due to how the S5 + no longer has the really big heat sinks with the same price or cheaper then the S3 or S5 with cheaper shipping , to get more into the mining game .  . selling in lots of so many or just one per order you make more any way and if any one can afford it they make more at least that's how most business sells work if they support the little guy still.

SO that's my hoping, i really enjoy doing it and the fun Ive had learning it.
2284  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with my s5 Temps on: August 27, 2015, 07:18:47 AM
What is the safe range for temps? I am using two SP120's and getting into the 70's while testing it, decided to shut down and do some research.

70's are too high.  many get away with low 60's

I would agree if you are hitting 70's you are running it wrong.  Put factory fan on temporary to go back to normal.   Or you can shutdown like you did.

The fact honestly is the S5 was not made to be a quiet unit.  Some have modded it, but from factory they are not quiet or cool.  They run hot and loud.
I did, I am currently looking for a fan on amazon, trying to decide which one to go with and keep this sucker a bit quieter at least. I am leaning towards the scyth for now.
this what all my S5 use

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 this one as push in the front

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A460TK6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 as pull in the back

all credit goes to philp for this idea it worked for me i never have a S5 go over 60 C at  350 speed . Smiley . my house stays at 80 or cooler all year long, in the room my miner are in it may go up to 85 degrees the hotted part of the day due to them in the summer, i live in Maryland USA,  they still sty below 60 or at 60 C  Smiley .!! and i could sleep in the same room if it  wasn't for heat, the noise level is very low .

I panic any time they get to close to 60 C .

The air is off right now in the house so that's tad warmer then i normally see it this time of nite . Smiley .

These just fit all the chips i didn't link it , i was hoping you would take our advice and go the safe way first . Smiley .

I'm not to sure about those never bought them . the ones you linked. never had any issue with any S1 i ever bought .

yes remove the tape, once you glue them on there there  to stay.

This is the best thermal epoxy Ive ever used http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_thermal_adhesive.htm  there maybe better ...

Paste won't hold them on long it has to be thermal epoxy Smiley !!!
2286  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with my s5 Temps on: August 26, 2015, 02:02:55 PM
I live with my miners too. What I usually do is to reduce the fan to lowest which runs 2400 -2280 rpm when I sleep. I increase them when Im not home or simply when I have headphones on. 2 noctua would sound as much as a stock fun running at 2400 rpm. Im still trying other options, Ill try to put a box fan soon. Gonna try a new setup soon, I'll put a silent but avarage fan to pull while using stock fan at %30.

Btw, some of my miners run at 2400 rpm while I set them to %30 and some run at 2280. Does anyone happen to know why.

1) one set of chips could be better then the other
2) the heat sink may be pasted better
3) the firmware may be different
4) there are different pcb boards you could have two different boards.
5) one psu gives better power then the other thus affecting the temps thus causing the fan to spin faster
6) something else  that I did not think of.

Plus I've also found that moving them around or one place form another place can do it the list can on as to  why and  there might not be a thing wrong either .
2287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with my s5 Temps on: August 26, 2015, 01:54:51 PM
how did you mess up your s5 with heat sinks? I am new to changing hardware around and I don't want to do the same thing. I thought you just simply put the heat sinks on top of the chips? How can this break the s5?

as tup said it's best to be safe they cost enough all ready , but anything that touches any thing that it's not suppose to will short it out .  if that makes sense, so  to big of a  heat sink that may over lap on the board might hit some thing turning it on will short it out  or if you want to take them off and they have good solid tape holding them on might not come of so easy.I know that's how i did it, i had the right heat sinks coming but couldn't wait, which became my lose i put on the wrong size heat sinks etc the rest we know.

It can happen. So i wouldn't do it unless you know for sure just what to do as tup  said and a lot others  will tell you

.which i do now at a lose . and yea all you do is put them on the chips but don't over lap and find out the right way of taking them off .Smiley.
2288  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with my s5 Temps on: August 26, 2015, 10:48:40 AM
I couldnt stand the stock fan long enough to see how it runs. I am mining in my room so the loudness is an issue. I am going to get heat sinks and put them on the chips. I suppose I will get another fan also.

be care full with the heat sinks per chip i did that and ruin a S5, I didn't even bro getting it replaced, i knew i messed it up. by that I mean make sure those heat Sink just fit on the chip and not over lap or touch any thing. but i would try a fan first it's a safer way to find out . and one other way but try the fan first , re paste the boards. o yea water cool it if you want to go that route .
2289  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help with my s5 Temps on: August 26, 2015, 10:03:57 AM
Hello thanks for reading the thread.

I recently got a s5. It was super loud so I replaced the fan with a noctua 3000 rpm fan. However the temps were getting too hot so I reduced the frequency to 300. I also put a hardcover book against the bottom of the s5 and placed it vertically. Any ideas if the book helps or not? I saw other users put covers over the bottom so thats where I got the idea. The main issue is that I live in a desert so the ambient temperature is quite high. Temps are at 69 and 70 at the moment according to the antminer UI. I am going to purchase a normal indoor fan and put it under the s5, hope that helps.

Any ideas?

edit:

When I set the ant miner on a flat surface one board drops to 62 degrees and the other jumps to 71, what is the cause of the 10 degree difference between the boards? anybody else have this happen too?

you need two of those fans not one as push pull by that I mean one on the front that is pushing air in and one on the back pulling air out . it sounds like your using just one, it won't work like that, trust me . i tried it .

or that one very loud stock fan . then with two in that way your temps should drop below 60 C and sty there at 350 . unless you house has no air or way of moving that hot air or cooling it off .

what were your temps with the stock fan ?  forgot to ask .

now this is starting to piss me off the ass hole running the site keep deleting my request for a pin reset. if he thinks I'll give up hes wrong, i just get more pissed off till i get results  and i usually do be they bad or good most of the time the results are good .

 My account is PIN locked reset it now you  sdxzklnfvd;lsknfv;

i won't give up till you do . I will just increase more and more till you see my point and either give us control over our  pins resets or you do it.

or

some thing like this i run my own proxy on two PIs one for sha256 and one for Scrpt mining  and could not get them to work on a Http port , so i had to run it thu the startum port .

bfgminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://your PC address like this 1092.168.1.12:3333 -u x -p x --generate-to 1QBajsQ8wGHkBgJEhHikKvm1kqvtJdYE53

but there is more soft ware I'm sure you may need, just not sure what it is.

slush pool hashrate increased by 10ph/s in the last 24 hours... new miners being tested?

That's not bitmain if it was like some one else said they would be on there own pool or off some were we don't know of.

when the S7 hit well know for sure count on that.

whats happening on slash pool is the voting for bigger blocks size . There face book page explains it all .  no more off topic  sorry this is and isn't .
2293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 26, 2015, 01:52:41 AM
I haven't read all these 14 pages, any idea when approx an actual miner might be released?

No indication yet.

Third Q of 2015 which usually falls over into the 4th Q . so to say when no one really knows when but bitmain they have some kind of set date, if i had to guess maybe by the end of OCT at the latest if not then, or before, then around Xmas with a discount . Smiley .

what i think an antminer s7 would be:
5.58THs to 4.68THs
power under 1500watts
price 825 to 975
just my two cents

nah, what you described is more like S8 or S7+

S7: 2300-2700 TH, 505-595W in a small form factor. It is much easier to dissipate that much heat vs 1500W

however, it would throw a wrench into plans of many if it would require three separate PCIe connectors with each more than 200W as per S5+ design.
It would mean that Corsair 750 workhorse is a no go.

I would agree more if the S5+ is or was the S6 makes sense that the S7 is for everyone would be more in line around 2.2 th or a tad higher  if it is 230 watts per TH  that's what maybe  500 watts tops or a tad hgiher as you said , at defaults then goes from there . it would make better sense to have it run on a 110 to 220 line depending on the PSU .

Price it at or like the S3 S5 etc ...that way every one stays happy including them .why would it be priced any higher just because of what that they do, i understand why S5 + is etc, unless they want to shut out the home miner which i kind of don't think they want to do after all were the ones that got them were they are now .

if it goes this way i some how see the S8 using less power and more speed if it is a  new chip by then .

Seems so

I'm mining Smiley by the proxy I have  my miners running thu .
2297  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Well... This sucks! Antminer help! on: August 23, 2015, 02:22:45 AM
You might be able to superglue a broken fan blade back to the fan, and it might even work for a while, but it won't be balanced.
Better than trying to run the fan with the blade completely gone though.
I'd stick a fan grill between the fan and the S5 if I DID try that repair though, in case of rebreakage while running it SHOULD keep the blade from doing any significant damage inside the unit.

DO NOT try epoxy. It's not strong enough, given the very small thickness of the blade.

I would use a heat gun then  use super glue  either way i would replace it for peace of mine  and to be safe. any repair he does more then likely wont hold long .
2298  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Well... This sucks! Antminer help! on: August 23, 2015, 01:48:34 AM
just replace them with some thing like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00  two of these will cut down on noise and run it a lot better and in some cases run it  cooler then the stack fan, unless it's under warranty which by the sounds of it, even if it  was  they are still gonna charge you for miss use, sadly , two of those fans might run you a few bucks more but work  good on S5.

and gluing it might be a bad idea it might work a week if your lucky or forever it can happen but if it  breaks  off while it running it might cause a lot more dmg then you  want seen it happen were the blade fries  into some thing etc . those fans can cut off a finger if your not care full .  just a tip your better off buying a new one or two .Sense you live in the US three day to have it sent from ebay or amazon with free shipping shop around if you have a prime account  it free shipping if its sold by prime if your like me my prime member ship usually pays for it self in two to three month that how much at times i order off amazon. or even shop local were you live you might find a better deal local.
2299  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN launches 4th generation Bitcoin mining ASIC: BM1385 on: August 20, 2015, 05:55:51 PM
considering BitFury already has FULL CUSTOM at 28 nm at 0.2 and ALREADY taped out at 0.05 with TSMC - I wish BITMAIN lots of luck. I also wish BITMAIN customers stength and hope they will ever see the return on investment.

Which we havent seen actual proof of have we? - and, if they do, its not going to be commonly available to the mortals

If Bitmain wasn't going to sell miners to 'home' users, then why even make the announcement?  I'm sure that Bitmain already has several large 'professional' accounts that would really like to buy the newest chips.

I agree even KNC didn't announce like this .

SO the S7 is coming soon its looking good at 230W/TH AntMiner S7 wonder what the TH per miner will be maybe 2.2TH ? .
and cost .
