241  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cash (BCC) , beware Traders on: August 03, 2017, 08:43:29 AM
In case you're wondering why the BCC price seems high: It's because no one can deposit BCC to exchanges. Once this changes, expect a crash.

Well, difficulty has now dropped significantly on the Bcash chain, so we should start to see some stability: https://twitter.com/jimmysong/status/892969785532850176

Blocks are definitely being mined faster now. Still no blocks for 1.5 hours at the moment, though. It seems this whole debacle will play out in slow motion... Smiley
242  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-07-31] BTC-E Claims Alexander Vinnik Was Never Their Admin Employee on: August 03, 2017, 08:34:14 AM
i dont understand why btc-e was running on a .com domain and not .ru , and on a second note, how the heck they made arrests in other country ?

It was run on a .ru domain years ago, and I believe the exchange was based in Russia at that time. It was banned by the Russian government, and supposedly the exchange moved operations to Bulgaria and/or Cyprus. The .com domain was eventually also banned by Russia, so they mostly use the .nz domain. That domain has yet to be seized.

I didn't verify for myself, but I saw someone post earlier that btc-e.top was showing a mirror of the old site. They said the domain was registered to the same company as btc-e.nz .... VERY interesting if so. Apparently btc-e.top was also redirecting to Exmo (a Russian exchange with alleged ties to BTC-e). I wish I could find that thread now....
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC-e joint refund group on: August 03, 2017, 08:19:47 AM
I don't believe the US will confiscate bitcoins from anyone who hasn't committed any illegal act as that would be illegal on their part.

LOL.. They absolutely will.

All of us who had coins on BTC-e will not see ANYTHING for years. If at all.. Sad..

I always like BTC-e. Seemed a no-nonsense site.. It was actually my FIRST..  I'll miss it.

I had moved my BTC out of the exchange in readiness for Aug 1st.. so Only had a few Litecoins on there. Enough to hurt, but not to cry.

OP - Sorry for your loss. That's a cry amount...

But why? Isn't that illegal to take away other people's money, when they are just regular citizens? How can they explain that? What excuses can they use?

I think money will be returned in a month, in two months max.

Returned by who? The FBI etc didn't even announce any seizure of funds. Naturally anything exposed to Moneypolo, Okpay, Mayzus could be seized. But based on how BTC-e was organized, it's very possible that much of the funds are intact. There was mention of purses being seized but one would hope that 1) they are encrypted and 2) just hot wallets.

Best chance of repayment is from BTC-e, not the feds. The DOJ is treating this like Libertyreserve.

Exactly. The funds are not seized but frozen. That's why it is a big chance that the funds will be returned to customers of BTC-e since the vast majority of them are not criminals and it is not right to take their money from them.

IIRC, the DOJ straight up called BTC-e users criminals in the press release. From the indictment, they even try to project criminality on users based on their trollbox usernames and commentary. When it comes to civil forfeiture, the burden is on the accused to prove the money is clean. That's very difficult to prove if you've ever sent coins into the exchange. Someone mentioned Libertyreserve... in that case, there was no repayment to users.

It's a mystery regarding how much USD, EUR and crypto they could get their hands on. I heard that the exchange never kept bank accounts in its name. Mayzus/Moneypolo/Okpay moved the money, BTC-e had third party accounts, and supposedly kept their fiat money in shell companies several degrees removed. As for crypto, one would hope that the keys would be encrypted on any seized server, and that cold storage would be out of reach.
244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are active these days. on: August 03, 2017, 08:05:54 AM
A number of wallet robberies are going on. People are moving their coins from paper wallets to exchange wallets and vice-versa, in order to claim the BCH. Hackers are noticing these transactions and trying to exploit them.

Exactly. With new implementations and wallets popping up left and right, and confused users just looking for a way to get their Bcash and dump it, the situation is ripe for fake wallets and phishing websites. This is one of the reasons why I haven't made any effort to get the airdropped coins. I really don't know which wallets are safe, and I have no idea who these BitcoinABC/Bitcoin Cash developers are. Best to wait for now.
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers are active these days. on: August 02, 2017, 06:35:12 PM
Some bitcoin users told me not to do transactions in these couple of days because hackers are active these days. I want to know is it true? or some kind of rumor? Anyone here who have faced such problem?

Transactions are stable at this point. But if you are trying to interact with the Bcash fork, there are definitely some dangers. Since people are looking for a new wallet to split their Bcash and dump it, there's definitely going to be some folks that fall for fake wallets.

I wouldn't trust the Electron wallet, or any of the Bcash wallets until you have thoroughly analyzed the code (if not, at least have someone you trust verify safety first). It's not worth interacting with this fork until you are sure your bitcoins are safe.
246  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are you doing with BCC on: August 02, 2017, 06:28:41 PM
Hello everyone, things are looking stable right now for BTC, and they should continue healthy, but what are you guys doing with the BCC?

I know how to claim them, but I don't know what client to use, and if they are really safe since they were "rushed". Also not all exchanges are accepting BCC right now. I normally use poloniex, but I don't think they will be accepting BCC anytime soon.

So my questions are:

- What clients are you guys using to claim BCC

- Where are you trading them (and are you selling or holding)

I will have some Bcash from Bitfinex and Kraken, but I'm not doing anything with my local or cold storage wallets. I don't trust the Electron Cash or Bitcoin ABC wallets.... I'd rather wait until I'm confident that I have a secure way to split my coins. There is temptation to rush because of the current price of Bcash, but that price can't last in the short term, once supply starts to arrive at exchanges.

Long term, who knows. Alts usually get pumped at some point.
247  Economy / Economics / Re: could bitcoin be replaced by another crypto currency? on: August 02, 2017, 09:04:09 AM
i do this question because i´ve read in this website issues with bitcoin, slow mining process, high fees, etc. and i´ve read too good reviews of some altcoins, ethereum (smart contracts), ripple (for transfers between banks), dash and nem. these altcoins called 2.0. could bitcoin become just in future virtual gold reserved to companies and rich people?

When I was new to Bitcoin, I also thought that bitcoin was the best cryptocurrency in the world and no other coins could beat it. But now after seeing so many new icos being released and so many other cryptos being successful, I realisedd something.

When you say "successful" what do you mean, exactly? That the ICO raised a lot of money? That the marketing pitch sounds really great, and you think the developers will build a great product someday? Smiley

Bitcoin was the first to implement blockchain technology, but there are other coins that have even better tech and they also solve a lot of Bitcoins problems which are mostly related to transaction times and fees.

When you say that they solve Bitcoin's problems, they have not been tested at scale. Time will tell. Bitcoin is being built to be robust, and that's why it performs so well today, whether there is network congestion or not.
248  Economy / Economics / Re: could bitcoin be replaced by another crypto currency? on: August 02, 2017, 08:10:06 AM
it's very possible but i don't see it happens soon.
It's still the first door to the cryptoworld.
For that to be accomplished, platform like coinbase will need to add more crypto directly buyable with fiat.

Beyond that, the problem is that big money tends to flow towards more stable assets, even within the risky world of cryptocurrency. Naturally, that means Bitcoin. Also, regardless of what features are coded into various altcoins today, most if not all of those features can be integrated into Bitcoin (at least via drivechains, sidechains, etc). Bitcoin moves slower: that's a feature, not a bug. Wink
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we all been entertained? Can we finally have business as usual? on: August 02, 2017, 08:04:38 AM
Yes, we can finally focus on Bitcoin transition to 2M in November so it goes smooth. The Aug 1 BIP148 was distraction from small blockers trying to mess up Bitcoin, but fortunately Bitcoiners saved the day with SegWit2x activation.

Easy does it. There's gonna be a lot of pushback against a hard fork, especially one so rushed as three months. I think even if we were talking about a hard fork 12 months out, you'd have significant opposition from most Core devs. If bitcoin businesses and miners follow through and push an 8x hard fork in November, there will definitely be a split. Unfortunately, the businesses have lots of money backing them, and lots of money to spend. Either way, things will be interesting. Don't expect it to go smoothly.
250  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: When can i see my BCC from Blockchain.info on: August 02, 2017, 07:28:56 AM
Hello everyone
i have arround 5 Bitcoin on blockchain.info
I heard that i'll not be able to see the Bitcoin Cash on this wallet but i still own it and i will just have to use the private key from Blockchain on a BCC compatible wallet to use them.
1- Is this true ?
2- Which BCC compatible wallets are avilable ? or there is none available yet ?
Thank you

Yes. Since you control the private keys on a blockchain.info wallet, you can extract the private keys and import them into a Bcash-compatible wallet. One such wallet is Bitcoin ABC (bitcoinabc.org/). There is another that was called Electrum Cash, but I think they may have changed the name, since they were infringing on Electrum's trademark.

The network is still quite slow, since difficulty hasn't adjusted and the hash rate is comparatively low vs. the original chain.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we all been entertained? Can we finally have business as usual? on: August 02, 2017, 07:23:07 AM
Nope. The real drama hasn't even begun yet. The biggest hurdle has always been the 2x deployment part of segwit2x that's due in 3 month's time.

Indeed, this is backed by all the corporate elements in Bitcoin (as well as miners). Businesses act for their users, so if they unite behind a hard fork along with miners, they could probably take a lot of the economy with them. I imagine they collectively have a lot of money to market their plans to the public as well.

I guess now that we are over the BIP148 hurdle, we have three months of arguing and FUD heading into the proposed November hard fork. Cheesy
252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we all been entertained? Can we finally have business as usual? on: August 02, 2017, 05:46:50 AM
I guess both split and fork sagas are finally finished. I hope the community has blown out some steem, trolls and speculators have been busy these days and I hope now we can get back to the growth and relative stability we have had before.

What do you expect next in crypto? Do you think we re finally going to see $3k BTC? Will alts start bouncing again? Will we see waves of new users flocking into crypt? Maybe another fork?

I wouldn't say the fork saga is finished. The split has happened, but the dust hasn't settled. The markets are still extremely illiquid (the major exchanges like Bitfinex still don't have markets up), and BCH block intervals are very long for now, until difficulty readjustment. In time, things could get a bit more interesting. I don't think BCH has much chance to overtake Bitcoin, but we could see some "network split" effects on the market, and there could still be some turbulence.

My take on the market consensus is that most people thought (and still think) that Segwit lock-in and post-August 1 = time for moon. Time will tell; I've got an open mind.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are you expecting after 1st-Aug? on: August 02, 2017, 05:42:11 AM
Why dump bitcoin cash? The market clearly wants bitcoin to scale and there is too much disagreement in the community to adjust to the needs of the market. Traditionalists will still have their bitcoin while others will have their forked versions.

It's not a matter of choosing one or the other. Perhaps there will be multiple versions of bitcoin that will rise.

Indeed, I don't see any reason to dump BCH off the bat. Like any other alt, it will probably have its day in the sun.

I don't think it has great fundamentals, though. In general, I'm opposed to hard forks and would prefer to see more scalable solutions than increasing the block size. If BCH can take the XT-Classic-Unlimited-r/btc contingent of the community, though, I think that would be a worthwhile split. It's best if communities with antithetical positions split up in the long term.

In the short term (weeks, months) it's really difficult to say what will happen to BCH on the market. The DAO split in Ethereum might provide some clues...
254  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: August 01, 2017, 09:29:32 AM
While I don't doubt they intend to get it up and running again, I'm curious to see exactly what will happen. With apparently some funds seized, FBI shutting them down and so on, there can definitely be issues coming online again. While I certainly hope they will be back (with my money), I'm still in an "I'll believe it when I see it"-stance.

That's the most sensible stance. There were a couple troubling things in the statement. They should know exactly what was seized and what was not. They shouldn't need to slow roll over the course of the next week or two. They should know which bank accounts are frozen, and they should know what servers (therefore wallets) were seized. One would hope that any servers within reach of the FBI would only have customer/hot wallets, with keys encrypted. But with these 66k BTC transfers floating around, who knows.... Undecided
255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 hours before the fork - Can I make a transaction without Fear? Please help on: August 01, 2017, 09:23:47 AM
I want to make a BTC deposite to my bitfinex acount

Can I make it 3 hours before 12:20 UTC?

Bitfinex needs 7 confirms

Congestion is low and fees are cheap right now. Pay a high fee (currently > 60 sat/byte) and you are very likely to be fine. However, there is always the very small chance that a block won't be found for a couple hours, and even a high fee paid at this time could get priced out.

If it's not vital to make the transfer, I'd probably avoid it. But chances are, you'll be fine with many blocks to spare.
256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tomorrow it comes..... on: August 01, 2017, 09:20:10 AM
The current news line says 'BIP148 activated with no split or other issues. The Bcash split will happen later today (UTC).' As I was expecting, nothing negative is going happen and a panic selling wave was there for no reason. I think we will see many investors who cashed out their bitcoins before this day will now again buy Bitcoins immoderately after a green signal from the centre.

There wasn't really a panic selling wave, though. On the contrary, the market has been steadily climbing for 2 weeks now. Now, we are only a few hours away from the Bitcoin Cash fork, so things could get a bit more turbulent. I've got my popcorn ready. Tongue
257  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Bitcoin Cash on: August 01, 2017, 09:16:17 AM
There is already an assumed price of bcc in some market and it ranges from 100 to 200 dollArs. But that is just some speculAtion probably most bcc owners will dump everything once fork has ended. It really is just an altcoins in the market after the hardfork that i think will be in effect in a few moments. But bcc has a better feature than by so who knows what's gonna happen.

Only on ViaBTC and maybe a couple of other small Chinese exchanges. These are very illiquid futures markets, and easily manipulated. I wouldn't put too much weight on the current prices.

After the fork, if/when we see markets open on the major exchanges like Bitfinex, things could get interesting. Everyone expects everyone else to dump their BCC. If it's anything like the ETH/ETC debacle, it won't turn out as everyone expects. Wink
258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: attempts to "rebrand" Bitcoin Cash won't work and look pathetic on: August 01, 2017, 04:07:53 AM
Its terrible isn't it, causing the price of BTC to rise and rise, free coins and money on top of it, when will this horror stop!

Every time I read about Bitcoin Cash I get more confused.

Is it free money or not? I was under the impression that it's value will drop hard, so it is practically worthless and pointless.

That's the consensus. But the consensus (in markets) is usually wrong. I.e. When everyone thinks the price is going to moon, it usually drops. This is why the commitment of traders (e.g. BTCUSD sentiment on BFXdata) is commonly used as an indicator by traders. It's important to know when the market is heavily weighted towards one position--that side will often get squeezed.

I don't think BCC is useful as an altcoin, but that doesn't mean it will be worthless. Speculators gonna speculate.
259  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: A spam attack can easily destroy the new Viabtc BCH chain on: August 01, 2017, 03:55:34 AM
BCH chain will have a small hash rate? I thought the powers of Jihan Wu and some of the other Chinese miners are riding under his banner in support of the fork?

Miners have largely kept their options open regarding explicit plans to mine the Bitcoin Cash chain. Naturally, it makes sense for miners to watch market reaction on the exchanges before taking the risk of pointing much hash power at BCC. Given all of Jihan Wu's past rhetoric, though, I imagine Bitmain will allocate some portion of its hash power to BCC. This could potentially create a feedback loop which supports the BCC price and causes other miners to defect.

I certainly don't see BCC overtaking BTC, but I'm not as confident as most people are that it will be worthless and irrelevant. If nothing else, as the OP points out, it will be nice to see the potential flaws of big blocks and dynamic block size front and center.
260  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e Legal action. on: July 31, 2017, 07:43:58 AM
If you lost money like me on BTC-e, legal action is ongoing to take our money back:

Sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/department-of-justice-we-want-our-money-back-from-btc-e

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a change.org petition isn't going to do anything. There is a pretty negligible chance that BTC-e could relaunch in some capacity and people might be able to get some portion of funds out, but that's pretty unlikely given all the heat on them from the FBI, etc. I'd love to see them back in business, but operating in a cat-and-mouse game with the Feds? They'd need balls of steel to come back under that kind of heat.
