1021  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bears thread - unleash the bear in you in this thread on: November 14, 2013, 02:58:34 AM
What do you all mean "based on the math"? Just because the last bubble rose 800+% doesn't mean this one will! At all. In any shape or form. It could grow much bigger, or pop immediately. The only "math" that matters is buying and selling pressure. The latter is often off the books until it's too late. OTOH there is plenty of bullish sentiment each time we exit a triangle in the right direction.

You sound like gamblers pretending to see patterns in randomness. This has been going on since the last crash with people predicting based on past patterns. Why haven't people figured out yet that this doesn't work?
Seconded. I don't see historic evidence that the magnitude of this run-up can be compared to previous rises/corrections. Or, thus, that the magnitude of the April rise has any bearing on current sentiment.
1022  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 14, 2013, 01:00:28 AM
It worries me the talk of an impending crash is waning.

Don't worry - the higher it goes the faster and harder it will fall.

I don't care what the uber bulls think - this happened before and it will happen again, it's only a matter of when.

When? It will crash from $100k to more reasonable $40k. Happy waiting.  Grin

Aha - more crazy talk. This is more like it.

When people start talking about completely unrealistic expectations we know it's coming soon.

We all have different trading strategies. My definition of crazy is hoping for something that may never happen. Someone is probably still waiting for a dip below $20. Same as waiting for a crash below $200 or waiting for a price over $100k. Both are unrealistic crazy talk.
The price was below $200, what, 3 weeks ago? You compare the likelihood of that to the likelihood of $20?  Huh
1023  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's getting frothy, and I'm dumping 75% of my coins on: November 14, 2013, 12:57:02 AM
BTW I was one of the only people to call the last spike a bubble when it was happening, took a lot of heat for it, but was ultimately correct and bought back in for around $70 - giving me more than double the coins I had previous to the post.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=169651.0

so at least I have a track record - on record.

only this time I will be very cautious about buying back in, I have traded many chinese "instruments" (which is basically what bitcoin is now), and I can tell you straight up that they are crazy, the go to even more extremes than western markets - in both the up and the down. I think it goes with the asian culture of feeling more comfortable being in a group, they seem to have less of a sense of individuality, so they are even more comfortable in a herd mentality. But that is just my psyche 101 on them, it could be BS.

Good job selling over $100 before the top.  Certainly a record worth bragging about Roll Eyes.
He doubled his coins on a big correction. I'd be happy with that. I'd say he did pretty well. Many losers trading this market.

change the record. you attacked me when i said anything below 300 was a bargain just days ago. We're never going to hit 266 or 300 again. Get over it. A 'crash' now would be 350-380
A crash would now be a 15% drop in price? Really? Am I missing something here? You may want to let more than "just days" pass before you get too sure of yourself.
1025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: btcQuick.com Feedback Thread on: November 13, 2013, 11:45:40 PM
Please don't ignore communication on debts.
Is this real life? Are you really saying this.

TradeFortress, where is the communication on CoinLenders debts? While we're at it, how do you explain pushing this "ID verification" policy when your users never had to supply even their name before? What exactly are you "verifying"? And maybe you should reveal some light on the incredibly opaque policy on inputs.io refunds?
1026  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: what's a good bitcoin exchange to trade at? on: November 13, 2013, 11:43:18 PM
I have heard good things about Cavirtex. If I were Canadian, I would likely trade there. All of the exchanges have their problems. I have had issues with Gox and Bitstamp... I trade on BTC-E and have had no issues, but many complain of very bad customer support. Coinbase is US only anyway, but I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole considering their constant reneging on reserved buys.
1027  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's getting frothy, and I'm dumping 75% of my coins on: November 13, 2013, 11:12:22 PM
Re: "the stock" issue. I don't like this all-or-nothing approach. I see a lot of this "bitcoin doesn't behave like a stock, don't analyze it as such." But, TA has nothing to do with stocks, per se. It attempts to analyze market psychology. Bitcoin does not exist inside a vacuum apart from market psychology. It is also clear to me from watching a couple very good analysts making very good entry/exit calls that there is indeed something to it.

Shrug....
1028  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone here know how to use Crypsy on: November 13, 2013, 10:22:01 PM
Hi-
I'm new to this forum but not crypto currency. I was looking into using crypsy to sell some of the more esoteric currencies, but their help pages were empty for some reason. I was just wondering if anyone here had any advice on the subject (and I'm new so this is the only forum area I can post in).
Thanks,
bballmer
What do you need help with in particular? I don't find their interface very difficult to use, personally. If you have some specific questions/issues, lay them out... perhaps we can help.  Smiley
1029  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammed by Coinbase :/ on: November 13, 2013, 10:16:19 PM
I've had nothing but good experiences with them.  They were the first people I signed up with 4 months ago, and I've never had a problem. Everyone cries "scam" but if you get in contact with them, they honor the transaction and take you off the "risk" list.  I think there's just an algorithm lots of folks get caught up in.
If this is true, I'd feel a lot better. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many reports of a satisfactory resolution to this issue. Then again, on forums, people tend to scream very loudly when they have a problem, and once it has been resolved, they don't update on the situation...
1030  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammed by Coinbase :/ on: November 13, 2013, 09:35:57 PM
what is coinbase?
The easiest place to buy bitcoins for people in the US, as you can reserve/buy with ACH transfer. But, obviously, they are plagued with complaints that they are cancelling people's reserved bids left and right, which obviously upsets people when bitcoin is rallying to the moon.
1031  Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical mass may have been hit, the sky is the limit on: November 13, 2013, 09:32:13 PM
You've gotta put yourself in the heads of the average Walmart shopper.  Try to get them to use Bitcoin... are you kidding me?  Not with current technology.

Have you seen the self checkout isles? Those are far harder to use than a smartphone bitcoin wallet.
What? Really? Self-checkout is incredibly easy. People can wrap their heads around that a billion times easier than bitcoin. More importantly, UI for virtually all bitcoin apps leaves VERY VERY much to be desired for the average user.
1032  Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical mass may have been hit, the sky is the limit on: November 13, 2013, 09:26:06 PM
Critical mass? Viral? Nah, we got a long time to wait for that. This is a speculative frenzy. And it's fucking great. I don't care for new paradigm talk, though.
1033  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammed by Coinbase :/ on: November 13, 2013, 07:45:04 PM
You would wire Bitstamp $20,000 from the US?
All I can say is..... stop using Coinbase. Day after day, these "high risk" cancellations pile up. If I had to get $20k in an exchange to buy coins, I'd wire to Bitstamp.
I have no reason to do that. I'm not buying more coins at these prices, even if we're going to $4000 on this run. But if I had to get $20k on an exchange? Yes. Though, depending on my financial ability to deal with having $20k potentially tied up, I might do it in increments of say $5k or $7k.

1035  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tor usage on: November 13, 2013, 06:35:45 PM
So you are not allowed to use tor here?
You can use TOR, as far as I know. The only snag is that some TOR nodes get banned. So attempting to post through those IPs = temp ban.
1036  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do You Think The Price of Bitcoins Will Go Down To $5.00? on: November 13, 2013, 06:34:44 PM
I think the long term trend shows very hard support at slightly < 100 USD levels. On a volatile enough crash (and from the looks of this rally, which I think will go much higher, that may indeed happen), I think 90-150 USD is a good guess for the hard bottom.
1037  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tor usage on: November 13, 2013, 06:30:28 PM
Could someone explain to me the forum's Tor policy, my last account was blocked after one post on Tor
There is a thread about this, might be in the Meta subforum. I believe if you are banned for logging in/posting from a banned Tor node, the ban is lifted when you log in from a new IP. At least, that has been my experience.
1038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What could stand in the way of BTC? on: November 13, 2013, 06:21:52 PM
Yes, I think the government is the biggest threat. However, as time goes on, their window of opportunity to cripple bitcoin is quickly passing.
1039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Myself and two friends seemingly being ripped off by Coinbase on: November 13, 2013, 10:38:51 AM
Yep, time and time again. This is why I don't recommend Coinbase to anyone. I also don't recommend storing coins there, since you don't control your private keys.
1040  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sold earlier at $380.... on: November 13, 2013, 10:34:07 AM
I know what you mean, I'm still waiting a little dip to 345 but bitcoin keeps on rising...question is for how long  Huh

And even then, how do you catch the "bottom" on said dip?
I don't so much try to catch bottoms anymore. I just use dollar-cost averaging. However, I do tend to weight my bids more heavily where I think the bottoms will be -- fib retracements, etc.
