1061  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Inputs.io HACKED, 4K+ BTC stolen on: November 12, 2013, 10:23:20 AM

yes, this is for real. Here is the email I received:
-------
Hi,

We've identified this request as suspicious based on proprietary rules. In order to protect the amount against fraudulent claims, please attach a copy of a government issued photo ID matching your name. This is used for verification purposes only.
-------

Seems kind of fishy. Verification? Users never had occasion to give their name to inputs.io in the first place. At best, he's trying to discourage people from making claims.
1062  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Dont understand BTC exchange prices.. Can someone explain pls? on: November 12, 2013, 10:07:32 AM
MT Gox has a premium because fiat money is stuck there--you can't get it out. (Some people think they may be insolvent...) Otherwise, I couldn't really tell ya. BTC-E tends to be a bit bearish.  Smiley
1063  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Inputs.io HACKED, 4K+ BTC stolen on: November 12, 2013, 10:05:12 AM
Looks like I lost my .35 btc that I had in there... This sucks

What about my coins there? If you stored more than 1 BTC, send an email to support@inputs.io with a Bitcoin address (preferably, an offline, open source light/SPV wallet like Multibit or Electrum). Use the same email you're using on Inputs. Please don't store Bitcoins on an internet connected device, regardless of it is your own or a service's.

What about people with less than 1 BTC?
I filed a claim for 0.0025 BTC and you are asking for a government issued photo id
This is insane! Especially for the amount claimed. Why do you need an ID? You have been hacked, not me.

Some questions for you (TF) to ponder about:

- Why would someone trust their ID to a site that was hacked?
- Why would someone trust their ID to a site whose operator's ID is not known / wants to be anonymous?
- I sent the email from the same email address I registered with. Why do you need an ID now? ID was not needed to sign up.
- TF, why don't you give me a government issued photo ID of yourself first??  Maybe then I will send mine.

Is this for real? TF is asking for government documents? That wasn't the case for my claim. And I wouldn't feel comfortable giving them up, either.
1064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: transaction vanished from my blockchain.info wallet on: November 12, 2013, 10:03:07 AM
Was the transaction in question sent with the proper fees? If unconfirmed for a long period of time, a transaction may not appear on the block chain.
1065  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitCoin to Correct? Your Comments on: November 12, 2013, 12:15:37 AM
I wouldn't hold a leveraged long position right now, but I'm holding. We haven't seen the end of this rally yet. I think we will approach $500, may not surpass it.
1066  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 11, 2013, 08:56:31 PM

I really, really doubt that.

And you have to remember China volume is at least half fake.

Huh? Did you just create that statement or do you have something to back it up with?
Whatever your opinion, you can't take the volume numbers as "real" as long 0% fees incentivize volume manipulation. How much manipulation is happening is anyone's guess. But I think to assume that what we are seeing for volume = what we would see with > 0% trading fees is misguided.

And what about the price movement (up)?
I can see how volume isn't the end all. But China is often right up there with Gox price wise.

And I don't understand the "whatever your opinion" statement. I'm just asking about "fake" volume. Perhaps I missed an earlier remark.

"Whatever your opinion" refers to whether you agree or disagree that the volume is "fake", or to what extent that it is "fake". Sure, volume isn't the end-all. But you can't look at price movement and assess trends without analyzing it, either.
1067  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 11, 2013, 08:48:35 PM
How long has this been going on? I didn't realize Gox was even down, I've just had tickers open, thought we were just consolidating here for a bit.  Smiley
1068  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So...when will there be a 'Bitcoin for Dummies' book? on: November 11, 2013, 08:45:29 PM
Maybe when there are better UI / more intuitive / more user-friendly applications for using bitcoin. As it stands, it can't be dumbed down enough.  Smiley

Im in Canada...prefer to use Canadian funds to purchase
I have heard good things about Cavirtex, generally. I remember hearing at some point recently (not sure if still true) they had a very easy bank transfer deposit option. Can any Canadians chime in on this?
1071  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum question on: November 11, 2013, 07:49:18 PM
i created a wallet on my online computer which is a "view only" wallet.

I'm not familiar with Electrum having a "view only" wallet.  Perhaps they've added new features since the last time I looked at Electrum?  Can you provide a link to where Electrum "view only" wallets are discussed?  Where did you find out about this feature?

Here is a link: http://electrum.org/tutorials.html

Go to the section titled "How to make offline transactions using your Master Public Key"... it explains how to make a view-only wallet for online use/giving out addresses that can't send outputs.
1072  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: November 11, 2013, 07:43:50 PM
Hmmm, slacked a bit this round. Couldn't get much down with bitcoin's crazy rally. Looks like it was a fairly light round overall in terms of total word counts.
1073  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why can't I earn BTC from BTC-E? on: November 11, 2013, 06:21:51 PM
BTC-E has a minimum deposit requirement... yes, I believe it is 0.0001 BTC. You need to send at least this much for your account to be credited properly -- faucets generally pay much less. It may be such that once you accumulate that much in deposits, that the will credit your account, but you are better off using an actual wallet, or a service that allows for much smaller deposits.
1074  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum question on: November 11, 2013, 06:13:32 PM
You created/restored the wallet from seed, but have you encrypted in the first place? I don't use Electrum, but isn't there an option to "add password" (after which your private keys are encrypted)? The keys wouldn't be encrypted if you haven't set this, I think. Also, if your Electrum private keys are encrypted, you should, as you indicated, be prompted for your pass phrase upon sending any outputs.
1075  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please explain the Newbie Restriction. on: November 11, 2013, 06:09:12 PM
It's just a deterrent to make it seem too much effort to create legions of spam accounts. That's not to say it's effective -- I'm not sure how effective it is.
1076  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinLenders, Inputs.io, Tradefortress (HACK) on: November 11, 2013, 06:06:39 PM
Wow, this looks truly awful. Has TradeFortress updated everyone regarding the status of Coinlenders funds, repayment, etc? It seems like a real one-sided show here....
1077  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC-E banned after buying on: November 11, 2013, 06:04:50 PM
Every time i try to connect (no matter what ip ) it shows:

You has been banned. (IP 188.x.x.x)

I'm just new from Saturday and all this happens minutes after buying 1 bitcoin.

I'm trying to speak with them by Skype but they keep silence since i start talking about ban.

Any sugestions?
Do you use TOR or proxies to connect? I'm not sure how BTC-E approaches that. How did you fund your account? I won't lie, BTC-E support is not great.
1078  Economy / Services / Re: The oldest sig ad campaign - get 0.3 BTC/month for free! No need to keep posting on: November 11, 2013, 06:02:50 PM
Are inputs.io users still being payed back? Or will i never see that money back? I had two different accounts, neither of them have been refunded yet.
Have people stopped receiving refunds? I received 78% of the amount held in my main wallet (took 2 days to confirm) and most of the < .1 BTC balances on 2 other wallets.
1079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would you sell some portion of your bitcoins for Christmas ? on: November 11, 2013, 05:54:17 PM
Not specifically. I might sell some bitcoins around Christmas time, but it won't be for Christmas. Smiley
1080  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is now the time to buy on: November 11, 2013, 05:49:57 PM
I stopped bringing new dollars in a long time ago. I'd be pretty uneasy buying in at these prices. Sure, there is a LOT of upside risk -- so if you have risk tolerance, go for it. Lots of money to be made.

But we could drop violently as well!  Grin
