241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK customers can now buy Bitcoin through Paypal on: September 20, 2021, 06:56:19 AM
When the news first came out regarding PayPal integrating Bitcoin to their platform, I could see a great number of negative posts in this forum. But one year has passed, and the overall impact has been positive. The move turned out to be mutually beneficial for both the sides. PayPal has witnessed a growth in net revenues, and a lot of people who were earlier to purchase cryptocurrencies from mainstream exchanges opted to do that using PayPal. In short, PayPal has made cryptocurrencies more accessible to the ordinary (especially less tech savvy) people.
242  Economy / Economics / Re: Africa’s crypto market has grown by more than 1,200% since 2020: Chainalysis on: September 20, 2021, 06:26:45 AM
^^^^ Cryptocurrency can be misused for illegal purposes, such as payment of bribes and ransom. Given the high levels of corruption that is prevalent in countries such as Nigeria, I am afraid that in the near future we are going to hear about it much more frequently. The politicians will be the first group to use cryptocurrency for such purposes. And these politicians will be the first ones to complaint that they need stricter regulations on cryptocurrency, because it is being misused (after they move their funds to offshore tax havens).
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Today I helped 2 non-crypto people invest in bitcoin on: September 20, 2021, 06:14:31 AM
You are right. Is important to let them know the risk behind Investing in Cryptocurrency. When I bring people into the Crypto world, and they want to invest. I do explain to them that the price of coins do rise and falls. Also teach them about been patience. If you don't do this things. You might end up been a bad person to them, when there is drop in price of those coins they Invested in. No doubt, Investing in Cryptocurrency is however profitable.

This is one of the reasons why I don't get too involved nowadays. No matter how much you educate them, if the price drops all of a sudden, or in case the coins get stolen, these guys are going to blame you. What the ordinary investor want is high returns with zero risk. But there is no such thing. You can opt for low risk assets, but then the returns will be low (US treasury bonds have interest rate of 1.3% per year). On the other hand, if you opt for high risk assets, then there is a chance that you will get good returns. But you should be open to the probability of your asset losing 50% of its value in a year.
244  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 vaccination becoming a criteria to live in the world on: September 20, 2021, 06:04:29 AM
The vaccination is becoming a criteria indeed and it must be also. Without vaccines, the probability of being taken into intensive care is rising very quickly. Because in that case, our immune system is having a big difficulty in fighting against the virus. And we have even deadlier variants now. We have no choice other than being vaccinated if we care about our life. There is no meaning in being anti-vaxxer.

With the original strain, it was OK to remain unvaccinated. It had a mortality rate of around 0.1% for those who are below 50 years of age (those without comorbidities). But the delta and other strains have changed the situation. The mortality rate for the elderly remains the same as it was before. But for younger people, it has increased by 50x to 100x, from 0.1% to somewhere between 5% to 10% (these numbers are based on my study on the data from India). So I would request everyone, irrespective of their age to get vaccinated.
245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 20, 2021, 05:54:08 AM
Good decision by Kohli. He should have done that a long ago. His captaincy always sucked in IPL and will be the same today too. RCB is a better team than KKR. I guess they will win today's match.

RCB, despite being one of the most powerful teams (in terms of player composition) has failed to become the champions, for some unknown reason. Less fancied teams like the Rajasthan Royals have managed to win the trophy, but even with players like Kohli, Maxwell and Jamieson, the RCB has never managed to do that. Maybe Kohli made the right decision. He need to pass on the responsibility to someone else, who may manage the team better. If the Mumbai Indians can become the champions 5 times (and that too with the double handicap of Pandya sisters), then I don't understand why the RCB is incapable of doing that.
246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 20, 2021, 05:44:33 AM
I am not forgetting anything but right now situation is not like in 2002 but still few peoples spreading feuds like this here all things going normal just Taliban take over in Afghanistan is hurting badly too few countries as they lost some big amount and few lost their supremacy. If England does not come, then still we will eat food and sleep well.

It is wrong to blame the ECB or CNZ for their decision not to tour countries like Pakistan. These boards need to follow the directives from their governments. And in case of CNZ, it was the New Zealand prime minister (Jacinda Ardern), who took the decision to cancel the tour. And let me remind you of one more thing. This is not the first time these boards have done that. Even during the 2003 world cup, there were a couple of incidents when teams refused to tour Kenya and Zimbabwe for security reasons.
247  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: September 19, 2021, 04:12:21 PM
Things are coming back but not normal for most countries but we have to keep going especially for people that are living paycheck to paycheck and relies their food supplies with that.

Agricultural activities were never really impacted because the rural areas fared much better when compared to the urban areas, as far as the pandemic is concerned. And now most of the governments are opening up the economy, despite the recent spike from delta variant. They are of the opinion that the damage to the economy (if lockdown measures are implemented) will be much worse than the damage that the virus can cause. But I would differ. Even now, it is not safe to return to the offices.
248  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 19, 2021, 03:47:08 PM
It is idiotic to have Trent Boult to bowl the depth overs, because again and again he has failed trying this. And this time also, it was no different. His first spell went for 3-1-11-2, and his fourth over went for 24 runs. Jasprit Bumrah is tailor made for such occasions and they still went with Boult. If Bumrah had bowled 3 out of the last 5 overs, then there is no way CSK would have made a total in excess of 150. IMO, Boult should bowl 3 overs in his first spell, and then the final over should be squeezed sometime before the first powerplay.
249  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 vaccination becoming a criteria to live in the world on: September 19, 2021, 02:48:37 PM
The most important is that it decreases the severity of the illness, supposing you get infected. However, I'm a living example of someone who was in close contact with a confirmed case, I am vaccinated, and he isn't. Despite the long hours and being in an indoor area, I wasn't infected. Got tested multiple times throughout the week as well.

I have the same opinion as well. Got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in May 2021 and I have managed to stay uninfected. Here in my country, there is no noticeable opposition to the vaccination program (unlike the case with some of the other countries). And as a result, the average number of daily deaths have remained in the 0 to 1 range for the last many months. However, since the emergence of the delta strain, there has been a surge in the number of infections. Used to be in the 20-30 range per day, but now we are witnessing close to 1,000 new cases per day. Still the higher rate of vaccination has managed to prevent the deaths.
250  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto will rival or replace fiat in 10 years? on: September 19, 2021, 01:58:31 PM
El Salvador has made Bitcoin as the legal tender along with US Dollar. And that means that Bitcoin is already a direct competitor to fiat. And I have no doubt that in the next few years dozens of countries are going to make BTC as their legal tender (especially those who don't have a national currency right now - such as Ecuador and East Timor). But complete substitution is not going to happen anytime soon, I am afraid. Large sections of the society remain opposed to Bitcoin (especially the elderly).
251  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [2021-09-19] South Korea’s crypto exchanges will shut down en masse next week on: September 19, 2021, 01:42:34 PM
I don't want to be too negative. Perhaps this move will have some benefits as well. At least such regulations will prevent occurrences similar to what happened in South Africa recently, where the Africrypt exchange closed down all of a sudden, taking away hundreds of millions of USD worth of funds. Also, I have a feeling that there are too many exchanges catering to a limited set of users. What is the point in having more than five dozen exchanges in a small country like South Korea, where the total population is just 52 million?
252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dollar supporters destroy Bitcoin ATM in El Salvador on: September 19, 2021, 01:31:11 PM
He should be arrested for damaging the government property. No one is allowed to damage the public property in any country.

Anyways by destroying the bitcoin ATM makes no sense because there is no damage done to bitcoin and people can still use bitcoin easily anywhere. However incidents like these will create panic among people as these ill minded people may attack stops who accepts bitcoin.

Anyone doing this sort of hooliganism needs to be arrested and thrown behind bars. This sort of activity should be nipped in the bud. If this sort of behavior is tolerated now, then tomorrow they will start burning down the shops that accept Bitcoin. And the day after that they will start attacking people who want to make payments with Bitcoin. Enough is enough. No one has the right to damage private property. It is so wrong. Any level of tolerance shown by the government will send the wrong message and it will further encourage similar criminal behavior.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Today I helped 2 non-crypto people invest in bitcoin on: September 19, 2021, 01:21:50 PM
I am glad that the OP is about to convince people. I gave up doing that many years ago. I made my first investment in 2012, when I purchased Bitcoins from LBC. And one year prior to that, in 2011 one Ukrainian guy (with whom I was working on a freelancing project) tried to convince me about Bitcoin. I refused to listen to him, and this is one of the biggest regrets in my life. And in 2013 and 2014, I tried to convince some of my friends and relatives to use BTC. But the reaction was very hostile and many of them accused me of trying to force them to invest in scams. After some time I gave up. Now I am sure that many of them will be regretting about it.
254  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation soaring in US and other countries gives good prospect to bitcoin on: September 19, 2021, 01:12:05 PM
How does it affect bitcoin at all when bitcoin's volatility is several hundred times higher than the USD over any stretch of time?  I don't see the inflation rate in the US affecting bitcoin at all until such time bitcoin can actually hold value more predictably than the USD, and there's currently nothing in the history of either bitcoin or the USD that suggests this will ever happen in our lifetimes.

There is no requirement that an asset that is used as a store of value should be having stable exchange rate. The current exchange rate of Bitcoin is higher than what it had, anytime from 2009 to 2020. That means that anyone, who used Bitcoin as a store of value for at least 12 months ultimately benefited from it. But then if you are going for short durations, like a few weeks or even months, then gold or some other fiat such as the Swiss Franc may offer a better alternative. But for such short durations, you don't need to worry about the fiat inflation as well.

It is difficult to predict the early matches of the IPL. Most of the time we don't get the results we expected. However, MI team seems to be stronger than my CSK in today's match. I don't want to guess what the outcome of the match will be. Moreover, I will not bet on this match. But I will support the MI team today.

I used to consider the Mumbai Indians as the strongest franchise in the IPL. But their performance during 2021 (first phase) was disappointing and they lost some really close matches. Hopefully they can still make it to the playoffs and win the trophy. There is no doubt that they have the best team balance and some of the best T20 players. But these two doesn't always guarantee wins. CSK on the other hand doesn't have much star power. But they had an amazing run during the first phase of IPL 2021.
256  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador Bitcoin payment option on: September 19, 2021, 12:51:07 PM
El Salvador is now the third country with the highest number of bitcoin ATMs in the world.

Bitcoin ATMs by Country

That is a bit misleading, because in the United States they have close to 25,000 ATMs and in El Salvador they have only 205. But still good to see El Salvador in the list. One year back, El Salvador was almost an unknown entity in the cryptocurrency market. But nowadays everyone in the sector is talking about them. Once more and more countries start accepting Bitcoin as the legal tender, their importance will fade. But we will always remember El Salvador as the first country which awarded the status of legal tender to Bitcoin.
257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Uk most deprived areas have the Highest number of gambling outlets. on: September 19, 2021, 12:41:19 PM
On what part does it make unfair?

Try to read the article for more information or some insights about the subject.

It's not about the rent, fees, or tax-related thing but stats show that many people are really lurking on gambling establishments in those areas. There are also gambling establishments in the rural areas but revenue is not that close compare to the deprived areas.

The article doesn't mention anything about the background of the gamblers who visit these gambling joints. It automatically assumes that such businesses are bad for poor regions, when the reality is that it generates a considerable number of direct and indirect jobs. BTW, I am not surprised by the article. The Guardian is regarded as one of the most left-wing newspapers in the United Kingdom. They are doing what they are best at - destroying jobs. This pattern is repeated across the globe. Wherever you have left-wing organizations, you can witness them protesting against legitimate businesses and trying to close them down.
258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: September 19, 2021, 12:31:09 PM
Yes, the things have changed in these 18 - 20 years. ICC was very fair back then and there was not much influence by the BCCI or ECB.
I think ICC won't take any action on it and this give courage to big nations to keep repeating the same actions for their own benefit.

ICC was more or less unbiased during the pre-2004 years, and this was the time when the pig 3 lobby took over the ICC. Actually the politics within the ICC closely follow what happens in India. 2004 was the year when the UPA government came in to power in India. The BCCI was taken over by the Sharad Pawar / N Srinivasan gang. They gained control of the ICC very soon. In 2014, UPA was kicked out of power and the NDA government was elected. Immediately there was a change in the BCCI/ICC. Srinivasan was replaced by Shashank Manohar, who slowly reduced the power of pig 3. But still, I don't think we'll ever go back to the pre-2004 era.
259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: September 19, 2021, 12:21:07 PM
I think the sole negative point will be his lost to Floyd, yes, he not giving a trilogy and waiting for GGG to age 40+ before accepting the fight will also be negative, but Floyd lamented the same, he is undefeated but still people will always find a way to bash his records for not facing a particular fighter during their primes, like the Pacquiao fight. Although he defeated Manny, but many will argue that Floyd should have face him when Manny was destroying everyone. Floyd fought Manny when he just come from a Marquez knock out. But in any case, a huge payday for the trilogy fight and even if GGG is 40++ by that time, he would accept it in a heart beat, but I don't expect it to be competitive as the the first two fights.

Canelo's loss to Floyd happened in 2013, when he was a clear underdog. But that was not the case in 2017 (Canelo vs GGG) and 2018 (Canelo vs GGG2). Also, in both the fights against GGG there were accusations about biased scoring. So the natural thing for Canelo to do was to accept the challenge from GGG and agree to a trilogy fight. But he refused to do that, which further emboldened the claim that his victory in 2018 was not clean. Maybe after 10 years, after he retire from professional boxing, Canelo may regret about it.

Do you think that the New Zealand board will be benefiting if the players participated in the IPL if that is your argument. What money and political influence led to the cancellation of the tour. If you can make that clear it would be great. I have no idea about the exact reason and i am sure the New Zealand board will give a detailed report to the ICC regarding this.

The IPL connection is actually funny. I don't think that anyone in the squad that toured Pakistan was having an IPL contract. The big names, such as Jamieson and Williamson were not part of the touring squad. Obviously the NZ board will gain a lot, because the BCCI pays around 20% of the contract value as "foreigner release fee" (BCCI wants to cut down this amount, but the ICC has remained firm so far). RCB's contract with Kyle Jamieson alone accounts for a payment of $420,000 per year for the NZC. For the boards like CSA, CA, WICB, NZC and ECB, this amount represents a significant chunk of their annual budget.
