581  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: August 12, 2021, 03:15:34 PM
In which country is it right? to a drastic increase. I am grateful that even though my country is currently in crisis and the spike in covid is high, there has not been a very drastic increase in the price of basic commodities. All still at a reasonable price in our opinion

I asked because he claimed that the prices went up by 100%. I haven't noticed any such increase in my country (and we import most of our foodstuff), and I haven't heard about any such occurrence from countries where my friends or relatives reside. So I was curious exactly what happened with him. There is a chance that the national currency was devalued, and that resulted in high food prices. Another reason could be civil unrest (similar to what is happening in countries such as Myanmar and Venezuela).

Scoring rate went down after Rohit got out. If India could make a total of above 350, then there is a real chance that England will be forced to follow on. Other than this, getting a result will be difficult as the weather predictions are not looking great. England bowlers look really pathetic, especially Mark Wood and Sam Curran. Now I understand why they included James Anderson in the playing XI, despite the fact that he was not 100% fit. Without him, it would be just cakewalk for the Indian batsmen.
583  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: August 12, 2021, 02:20:16 PM
No matter how equally you divide the wealth there will still be some people who have more money and and still many people who have less money.
Without this the difference in the world we cannot find people who are willing to do odd jobs or fulfill them.

It doesn't matter. The question here is whether the world can be without poverty or not. Poverty may cease to exist, but the wealth disparity may remain. Wealth equality is theoretically possible only in socialist countries. And socialism is a failed concept, as seen from infinite number of examples. Personally it is possible for the governments to manage poverty, if overall wealth levels are high (irrespective of wealth disparity). But that is not possible, in case the overall wealth levels are low. The governments can tax the rich, and distribute a part of it to the poor.
584  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you miss Trump? on: August 12, 2021, 02:07:35 PM
Republicans are committing a grave mistake by supporting Trump. I hope everyone remember what he did during the Georgia senate runoffs. David Perdue received 250,000 less votes when compared to the first round, just because Trump refused to campaign for him. Trump is selfish and he cares only about himself. He should have been kicked out of the GOP immediately after the capitol riots. And if he remains in GOP, then I expect a whitewash for GOP in next year's senate election. The Democrats will get a clear majority and they will be free to do whatever they want.

103/0 now. Excellent start by India. Anderson doesn't look 100% fit, and the other bowlers are struggling. But I just noticed that Mohammed Siraj has been picked ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin. This is a very poor decision, IMO. Siraj was the worst performing bowler in the first test and in case Ishant had to be included, then that could have been done by dropping Siraj. On the other hand, they dropped Shardul, who is more handy with the bat. Anyway, RCB quota in play... what to say here. Disappointed at the absence of Ashwin.
586  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and middle class as a mentality on: August 12, 2021, 11:13:36 AM
we must realize that poverty is unlikely to be eliminated. But we can do something to reduce poverty. In addition to the role of the government, we really have to help each other, by providing skills, education and health, I think this is the initial solution, but for all of this it requires a process, which cannot be done instantly.

How can you be so sure that poverty can't be eliminated? have you checked the situation in China? During the last two decades, they managed to completely eradicate extreme poverty. Wealth disparity will exist forever, because the population doesn't have the same skill set. But it is 100% possible to eliminate extreme poverty. And I don't agree with your argument that it is our duty to help the poor. The income tax levels are going up with every passing year, and in many countries the marginal tax rates have touched 60% mark. And it is not fair to ask someone who pays 60% tax on his salary, to further take out some money to help others.
587  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine is the "island of crypto freedom" in Europe, what to expect ? on: August 12, 2021, 11:01:12 AM
You have forgotten Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo as some of the candidates for the EU, and these are perhaps the highest priorities because Serbia outside the EU is increasingly falling under the influence of its Russian brothers, while pro-Serbian politics is in power in Montenegro, which together with Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is a real barrel of gunpowder that can explode at any moment.

Turkey is a completely different story, they want to join the EU without transforming into a European country - which in my opinion is a mission impossible given Turkey's worldview.

I don't think that Serbia will be admitted in to the EU as long as they don't recognize Kosovo as a separate sovereign nation. And no regime in Serbia will be willing to do this, because the Kosovo issue is still very emotional for the local voters. One compromise deal would see the Serb inhabited Northern Kosovo swapped for the Muslim inhabited Presevo valley (currently a part of Serbia).

Demographic changes in Bosnia is working in the EU's direction, as the country recently became Muslim majority. A few weeks back, they passed a controversial law, which would make it a criminal offense for anyone to suggest that there was no genocide against Muslims during the civil war. Serbs oppose this law, because it claims that only Muslims were victimized during the civil war.

This is great news for the citizens of Argentina - I think with local production they will be able to control the quality better than getting the vaccine from Russia. But it’s really a shame that they have to choose between these third-rate drugs and don’t have access to Pfizer and others in sufficient quantities.

Actually the Argentine government tried hard to procure Pfizer vaccines for its citizens. But Pfizer wanted protection from any future lawsuits related to criminal negligence and wanted the government to keep the military bases and central bank reserves as collateral. The government conducted several rounds of negotiations with the pharma company, but the latter refused to relent. Eventually the president gave up and announced that they will rather go for Sputnik V/Sinopharm/AstraZeneca.
589  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 12, 2021, 07:52:32 AM
Stuart Broad is already out of the series, and now it looks as if James Anderson might not be fit enough to play today. In that case Saqib Mahmood may make his debut, after impressing the selectors recently with his performance in the T20 series against Pakistan. Almost half a dozen of the first line England pacers are now unavailable as a result of injury. And this includes Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes and Olly Stone. Maybe we can add Ben Stokes as well. So for them, the selection needs to be made between Saqib, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, Sam Curran and Craig Overton.
590  Economy / Economics / Re: China - everything is fine! But everything is bad ... on: August 12, 2021, 07:41:02 AM
At least some of you agreed with me, but even the ones who disagreed basically said "No I prefer a belly full of food and a dictator at the top instead of starvation and freedom" which I can sort of understand, I mean some people only thing of their own life and not the general politics which is understandable, it is totally understandable.

However nobody could deny that in the west we have freedom, sometimes things suck but at least it is freedom that brought us there, I rather not be in china in any case, people in China rarely know what they are missing because from birth to death they all are feed what government wants them to see, even their social media and everything else special for their own nation, they do not go to twitter and chat there easily, they use their own social media and government can see who says what and punishes accordingly.

I think that is just way too harsh, you can say they are at least feeding their citizens, but that is not good enough, without freedom everything else sucks.

Your definition of "freedom" is different from the definition in countries like China. If the people are not satisfied with their rulers, then it will take only a few months to overthrow the regime. Communist regimes have become history in the former USSR and Eastern Europe. The Chinese believe that the alternative to the current regime will be even worse. And I would agree. I have visited countries in the neighborhood of China, such as India and Bangladesh. And what I could see was extreme exploitation of the poor people, by the so called "democratic" politicians and policemen. IMO, democracies in Asia are much worse than China.
591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the epidemic have a big impact on Bitcoin? on: August 11, 2021, 04:14:20 PM
From what I have seen so far, the pandemic had both positive and negative impact on cryptocurrency. On one had, so many people became unemployed and as a result they had to dip in to their savings (including savings in the form of cryptocurrency). But at the same time, countries such as the United States were distributing stimulus cheques to the general population, including to those who don't need the money. At least a fraction of this money was used to purchase cryptocurrency (especially in the United States).
592  Economy / Economics / Re: China - everything is fine! But everything is bad ... on: August 11, 2021, 04:02:27 PM
Have you ever experienced living in poverty? It is easier to say like this. But in reality, 99% of the people just want to live comfortably, even if that means that they are living under an authoritarian regime. Just go and ask the ordinary Venezuelans whether they would be willing to swap their passports with the Chinese. I am sure that 90% plus would opt for that. Go to any poor country, and you will get the same response. Democracy is essentially the dictatorship of the majority. So what makes it any different from the system that they have in China?
Well, if you tell those poor people everything about China, I am sure that they wouldn't opt for the passport to live there. Also, can you hear what you're saying? You are basically enabling authoritarian rule instead of the freedom for the people, we shouldn't side with any kind of government, we always should look out for the well being of the public and authoritarian regime isn't a cure, it's a cancer.

How can you be so sure? Let's say someone living in the poorest part of the world has two choices. The first choice is to have a salary of $20 per month, but he can participate in the elections and has the freedom to use social media. The second choice is to have a salary of $1,000 per month. But in this case, he doesn't have the freedom to participate in the elections, or to use social media. If you believe that a majority would select the first option then you are wrong. You guys have no experience of living in poverty. And the so called democracies are not far behind China in terms of human rights abuses. You can check these wonderful incidents from the "so called" democracies:

593  Economy / Economics / Re: If you can get paid through cryptocurrency, do you still choose fiat currency? on: August 11, 2021, 03:45:01 PM
It is even worse than that... I think they published only a sort of pie diagram and provided the % for each of that asset classes they hold to back their Tether, but nobody knows how much value the assets they hold to back Tether really have! Cheesy

They could provide a pie diagram and have less than a million available to back billions of Tether. What a ridiculous report! Tongue

There has been no independent audit. We know what they have revealed so far. And there is no guarantee that they are saying the truth. I still don't know why people prefer USDT over other more reliable stablecoins. One justification that I have heard is that USDT is more decentralized when compared to the other stablecoins. But should that be a factor to be considered? Irrespective of who is issuing them, someone needs to store the backup funds. And that is the case for USDT, as well as for the other stablecoins such as USDC, PaxUSD, BUSD and UST.

595  Economy / Economics / Re: Ukraine is the "island of crypto freedom" in Europe, what to expect ? on: August 11, 2021, 01:53:46 PM
^^^^ EU in its current form is dominated by Germany and that was one of the reasons why the Brexit happened. Ordinary German citizens have a feeling that German tax money is being used to subsidize the Eastern European states. And this is the prime reason why the EU hasn't expanded for a while. Now including countries like Bosnia, Ukraine, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldovia.etc is supposedly on the "pipeline", but I am not expecting any real movement for the next 20 years at least. Turkey is on a higher priority compared to these countries, and despite the romantic relationship between Angela Merkel and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they haven't yet made it in to the EU.
596  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: August 11, 2021, 10:34:42 AM
The world was created to need each other, it is impossible for a world without the poor because those who work hard and become laborers are poor people, if everyone is rich then no one wants to be a farmer, fisherman and so on. poor and rich need and benefit each other so that life can go on.

That is not true. There are countries with hardly anyone living in poverty, such as Switzerland and Norway. There are laborers in these countries as well. But the difference is that they are paid at decent rates. It depends on the strength of the economy. If the economy is strong and the population is small, then irrespective of the job everyone will be paid good salaries. On the other hand, if the economy is in a poor state and there is an oversupply of labor, then the wage levels will be very low (India, African nations.etc).
597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 11, 2021, 10:20:39 AM
I don't know if the players were really German or Norwegian. But they played well. A few days ago I saw the cricket team of Argentina. Although I did not have the good fortune to watch their game. These football-centric countries will be interested in cricket if they join the  Olympics. And that will be the ICC's biggest achievement.

Argentina is a different case. They have cricket clubs that are more than 100 years old. They never depend upon foreigners to play for them, but probably as a result of this their rank has slipped down recently. Teams that stack up their playing XI with foreigners obviously perform well and those with native players (Argentina, Kenya, Nigeria, Iran, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Nigeria.etc) are failing to win the regional qualifier tournaments. It is not fair, as on the one side we have ex-first class players from India and Pakistan, and on the other side we have amateur cricketers with no such experience.
598  Economy / Economics / Re: COVID advanced the world into the future on: August 11, 2021, 08:04:00 AM
If you consider that Crypto is like a gambling with ur analogy, I dont think so. Gambling is a zero sum game and crypto is money which is different form. You can decide when you have to buy or sell with ur own choice there is no restriction to do anything you want. When you are lose that isn't always a realize lose and most of them still unrealize. So do u still think they are the same level between gambling and crypto?

He is just saying that investing in cryptocurrency is as risky as taking a lottery ticket or participating in a casino game. It may be an exaggeration, but there is no doubt that the risk factor involved in cryptocurrency investment is much more than the case with mainstream investments such as stocks or bonds. And one more thing. Although it is true that you can buy or sell cryptocurrency whenever you want, it is not always practical. Remember what happened in 2014/15? The prices remained suppressed for almost two years.
599  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 11, 2021, 07:46:20 AM
If cricket participates in the Olympics, it will be beneficial for cricket. Like football, cricket will spread all over the world. A few days ago I watched a cricket match in Germany, Norway. But I did not know that they participate in cricket. These teams will be able to improve themselves if they participate in the Cricket Olympics.

Oh please.. I watched 5 minutes or so from this series and it was a complete sham. Fancode just want a few "international" matches for their subscribers. So they dressed up a few Indians and Pakistanis in German and Norwegian jerseys. None of these players had any connection with Germany/Norway and not a single player had the citizenship of these countries and I couldn't find anyone among the spectators. This sort of joke doesn't exist with football or any of the other sports, because they don't allow foreigners to represent national teams.

@Sithara007 this is a totally new angle for me cause for all this while I believed he was dropped because of his form, and due to his age. Furthermore I did a quick search to see if what you say is mentioned somewhere, but all I found was articles saying he was dropped due to poor form, and due to him being 40 years, so I’m sharing those links below have a look and offer your take on them.

Sources:

https://www.kaieteurnewsonline.com/2015/05/23/chanderpaul-dropped-for-australian-series/

https://gulfnews.com/sport/cricket/chanderpaul-i-wanted-12000-runs-not-laras-record-1.1661423

This is what Chanderpaul had to say: https://www.espncricinfo.com/video/i-was-forced-to-retire-by-wicb-chanderpaul-968357

And the argument that his form was not good is simply not true. Chanderpaul scored 648 runs in 2014-15, at an average of 43.20. His batting average may look ordinary, but this includes runs scored in a few tough bilateral series. And the issue of selection has been raised by many players of Indian origin, including Ravi Rampaul. And in case of Rampaul, he was told that he can't be selected in the national team because he belonged to a different race:
