681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If it is more convenient for people to buy Bitcoin, will Bitcoin be more popular on: August 01, 2021, 01:21:14 PM
How can an ATM machine allow "face-to-face transactions"?
What about KYC policies?I don't think that the authorities would allow people to purchase Bitcoin thru ATM machines without ID verification.
The Bitcoin price would've been way higher,if Bitcoin purchases were easy and convenient. There's no doubt about that. The problem is that Bitcoin purchases will never be easy, cheap and convenient.

Most of the countries don't require KYC, if the amount involved is small, like $100 or $200. A lot of Bitcoin ATMs operate in countries such as US and Canada, and they never ask for KYC information unless the amount involved is higher than a certain threshold. Even the mainstream exchanges don't ask for detailed KYC, if your daily volumes are low. I don't have an account with Binance, but they will only ask for Basic Account Verification, if your daily withdrawal volume is less than $2,000 (please correct me if I am wrong).
682  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-07-31] Feds are seizing cryptocurrency from criminals. Now they have to fi on: August 01, 2021, 01:01:20 PM
It's easy, just do what they did to the cryptocurrency that they did back when they seize Ross's bitcoins back then, auction it at a really lower price and have the auction an exclusive thing so not everyone except for their friends can get in the market. Or probably sell those cryptos and donate it since they can't add it to their funding.

If my memory is correct, most of the seized coins from Silk Road were auctioned at rates relatively higher when compared to the prevailing market rates at that time. The only issue is that the coins were sold in slots of 3,000-4,000 coins, so ordinary investors were not being able to bid for them. Only a few dozen whales took part in the auctions and the funds collected as a result of the sale went to the treasury. The Bulgarians were more clever with the coins they seized. They held onto the coins rather than selling them. And right now they have $3 billion worth of coins in government reserves.
683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin (BTC) Difficulty Sees First Positive Adjustment Since May on: August 01, 2021, 12:51:16 PM
I heard that some of the miners are relocating their farms to Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia. But Pakistan and African countries? Is there any solid proof for this? As far as I know, Bitcoin is not even legal in Pakistan. I know that Pakistan has very good relationship with China, and that may have prompted the Chinese miners to move there. But my question is whether it is an intelligent move to shift the operations to a country which is facing electricity shortage and where the legal status of cryptocurrency falls in the grey zone.
684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 💰 Summer Tokyo 2020 💰 Discussion and bet thread 💰 Summer Game 💰 on: August 01, 2021, 12:41:50 PM
Yes, it greatly affects the result. I remember the 2008 Beijing Olympics when China won a fantastic 51 gold medals and took first place overall. Interestingly, at the next Olympics in 2012, they won only 38 gold medals and took second place behind the USA. I don't think Japan will be able to compete for the top 2, but the top 3 is quite capable (especially considering some of the problems of competing teams).

One thing that I have noticed so far is that unlike what was said before, the United States doesn't seems to be having a monopoly in track and field. They performed well in swimming and some of the other disciplines, but so far their performance in athletics seems to be disappointing. I won't be surprised if they finish far below their tally in 2016 (46 golds). On the other hand, the Chinese athletes seems to be on fire. Back in 2016, they won a total of 26 golds. And till now, their tally stands at 23 gold medals (with half the medal events still to go).
685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: August 01, 2021, 12:31:10 PM
As for the result of the fight, it can affect the image of Pacquiao - if he loses, it can harm his image, especially if the fight is easy for the opponent.

Well. that's the point. The current president (Rodrigo Duterte) is having sky high approval ratings and naturally we can expect the same level of support being transferred to the individual he endorses (Duterte can't take part in the 2022 elections due to term limitation). The issue here is that in case Pacquaio loses badly and fails to qualify for the second round (if that is required), then it can ruin his plans for the future presidential runs. In the future, people will not take his political ambitions seriously if he performs poorly in 2022. The best thing for him to do will be to skip 2022, and to focus on the election after that.
686  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 01, 2021, 12:21:15 PM
They should have scored more than 180 runs as Pakistan's top-order batsmen did at the start of the match. But the middle-order batsmen were a complete failure. Apart from Babar Azam and Rizwan, I can't find any experienced players in the Pakistan team who are able to perform consistently. To win the series, the players must be consistent.

LOL.. both the teams are inconsistent, so it is OK. Pakistan total was not very intimidating, and with the best T20 batsmen in their squad, West Indies should have chased it down with ease. And then suddenly the West Indian batsmen, for some unknown reason found the bowling of Mohammad Hafeez life-threatening. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasan Ali ot thrashed all over the park, but Hafeez proved unplayable. And remember that the West Indies squad had players such as Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle. Both of them made a combined total of 51 runs from 53 balls.
687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympics 2020/2021 : Discussion & Predictions on: August 01, 2021, 12:11:17 PM
Khachanov was close to repeating the achievement of the legendary Russian tennis player Eigeny Kafelnikov, but in the end he received only silver. Considering that before the start of the tournament, hardly anyone expected him to reach the final, this is an excellent result. It will be interesting to read Kachanov's interview after the match - judging by the score, he had some kind of health or psychological problems.

Russians would have been happy if Kachanov could win the gold. For the time being, he will settle with the silver. Russia won the gold in Mixed doubles a few minutes back (both gold and silver went to Russia). Czech Republic won the Women's doubles gold today (Barbora Krejčíková / Kateřina Siniaková), while another Czech player (Markéta Vondroušová) settled for the silver medal in Women's singles (gold went to Belinda Bencic of Switzerland). And that means the tennis competitions are over for this edition of the Olympics.

How you say the players aren't in control. The virus spreading happens mostly through touch and through air. Each and every player is vaccinated, there is no cent percent effect on vaccine. There are people and players with asymptomatic, so that even if the virus is there no symptoms can be found. Now there is nothing to point out someone is wrong and right.

Everyone inside the bio-bubble was tested for COVID after Krunal turned out to be infected with the virus. And none of them were found to be carrying the virus. So it makes no sense to claim that the virus spread through air and infected only Krunal. Two other Indian players got infected, but these two were close contacts of Krunal. Everyone knows what happened, and it is another topic that the BCCI will not take any action against him.

Is anyone watching the Olympics? Brandon Starc may get a medal in high jump. He is the younger brother of Mitchell Starc.
689  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin about to break out of the $30,000s market bottom? on: July 30, 2021, 04:42:44 AM
I know that a lot of people were waiting for the 20K level, to accumulate BTC cheaply. They will be disappointed. BTC dipped below 30K for a short period of time, but it rocketed upwards as soon as the news (rather rumor) about Amazon acceptance came. It was a very sharp rally from $28,000 to $41,000 in a couple of days. And even after Amazon denied the rumor, the prices remained at a very high level. There was some sell-off which resulted in the exchange rates dipping to 37-38K, but the recovery happened in less than a day.
690  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish: 'Vast Majority' of Institutions Will Own Crypto by 2026: Fidelity on: July 30, 2021, 04:26:48 AM
As the narrative of bitcoin has change, and so is our goal here. Bitcoin should be hold for long-term, well at least a year and then see how it goes for us. The problem is that many bet on the short and thinking that they can too earn huge money in short-term. But the better plan obviously, is to continue to stack and accumulate bitcoin and look in the future. Imagine +4 years from now, after the halving, we might be pushing for at least $500k that time.

Do you still believe that block reward halving will be having a large impact in 2024? It had a big impact in 2012 and 2016 (as we had significant rallies in 2013 and 2017). But the impact was more muted in 2020. The rally of 2021 was mostly attributed to other factors, such as acceptance by PayPal and Tesla. Mining output is at a lower level (<BTC1,000 mined per day nowadays) compared to what we had during the early days. Further reductions in the block reward will have some impact, but IMO they will be overshadowed by other factors.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I lost all my crypto gains this not fair! on: July 29, 2021, 04:31:24 AM
Those who don't have the patience to stay invested in cryptocurrency for more than a few months should rather make their exit. I am baffled at OP's reaction to price fluctuations in coins such as Ethereum. ETH is a well established cryptocurrency and it has a very good future potential. What is happening now, is a correction after the prices went up by 15x in the last 7-8 months. What do you expect after such a crazy bull run? Obviously there will be some profit booking and the prices will go down for a couple of months. Those who can't digest this fact should not invest in cryptocurrency.
692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are some long term projects for holding? on: July 29, 2021, 04:14:53 AM
I am interested in some of the fourth generation cryptocurrency projects that are being developed right now. But the risk factor is a bit too high. With any other cryptocurrency project, there is a chance that the development will be halted mid-way. And since all these projects are in the early stages, there is a big chance that one new project may suddenly appear in the horizon and it may overshadow the existing projects. Irrespective of these risk factors, I have shortlisted a few for investment. These are - Insolar, SOOM, Aergo and Multiversum.
693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What if Elon musk launches his own coin? on: July 28, 2021, 06:49:29 PM
I consider Elon Musk to be like crypto Warren Buffett, because when Buffett invests in something in the stock market, people listen to his opinion, as well as now when Elon Musk says something regarding crypto people follow him. So in my opinion if Elon launches a coin people will invest in it. At least because of Elon Musk’s authority. But haven’t heard about his plans to create a new token yet, now he is trying to develop the current system.

Elon to the cryptocurrency sector is not what Warren Buffet is to stocks. Because Elon doesn't consider cryptocurrency as his main business. He has always reacted favorably to new innovations and Bitcoin somehow managed to catch his attention. If he comes up with a new coin or token, then a lot of people will definitely invest in it. But the big question is whether he will be willing to take such a risk. Accepting Bitcoin, or investing in BTC is different from creating a cryptocurrency. If he creates his own cryptocurrency, then legally it may backfire on him at some point. Already he is in the watch list of SEC, for alleged market rigging and manipulation.
694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you recommend staking? on: July 28, 2021, 06:19:31 PM
In the past, I had very bad experience with staking, and therefore I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. I invested in a few PoS coins (Deep Onion, Veil.etc) back in 2018, but suffered huge losses as the exchange rates went down (and I was staking my coins 24x7). It may be because of the general downtrend in the market (2018 was a very bad year for altcoins), but I never tried the PoS coins for investment again. Overall, I am not a big fan of the PoS coins. The only coin in this category that has caught my attention is Cardano.

What an amazing comeback by the Sri Lankans! I was thinking that it was all over for them, when Ramesh Mendis got out. 20 runs were needed from 2 overs and the most experienced Indian bowler (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) conceded 12 runs of the 19th over. Also, I was really surprised by Dhawan's captaincy. He didn't even gave a single over to Navdeep Saini, despite the fact that Chetan Sakariya was leaking runs in every direction. Personally I don't like Saini, but on this occasion I think he should have bowled a few overs.
696  Economy / Economics / Re: Not just money but oil is most important in the World on: July 28, 2021, 03:31:27 PM
Well, that's exactly what I wanted to convey the idea. Although there is one more nuance - income diversification. If the same Norway forms its budget, and oil revenues are sensitive but do not have a critical weight. This means that a sharp change in the situation in this specific market will not drop the country's economy. And many countries such as Venezuela, the United Arab Emirates, the Russian Federation - have a critical share of oil revenues in the budget. Venezuela and the UAE, if I am not mistaken, filled the budget with oil revenues up to 70% +/-, the Russian Federation - from 30 to 40%. True, the UAE uses the head for its intended purpose - they think and are engaged in the diversification of the economy. And the two remaining countries use their heads just to eat and talk. Therefore, the UAE has laid a good foundation for the future, while Venezuela and the Russian Federation are smoothly (or not smoothly) watching the irreversible plunge of their economies into chaos.

For Russia, the figure that you mentioned (30%-40%) is just for crude oil and petroleum products, right? I suspect that if we add natural gas as well, then the numbers will be close to 50%-60%. And these two needs to be grouped together, because the natural gas prices are closely linked to the crude oil prices (with a lag of around 6 months, I guess). But it is a shame that the Russian economy is not diversified. They are the largest country in terms of surface area and has enormous amounts of mineral deposits. On top of that, they have huge swathes of arable land (most of which is unused). It is tragic. Irrespective of whatever deposits you have, all of them are useless if the country is being ruled by incompetent people.
697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 28, 2021, 03:18:12 PM
India started well, IMO. After the first power play, they were at 45/0 (6.0 overs). But the fall of first wicket seems to have slowed them down, as Shikhar Dhawan is known as a slow starter. Devdutt Padikkal has come to the crease now, and today's his debut. IMO, he is one of the best young batsmen available for India, but somehow the selectors always tend to ignore him when it comes to national team selection. He has a strike rate of close to 150 in T20 cricket and I will be disappointed in case he fails today.
698  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: July 28, 2021, 03:06:18 PM
one of the barriers to vaccination is the amount of fake news circulating in the community. there is a lot of fake news deliberately created by irresponsible people so that people are afraid to receive vaccines. maybe this is what is happening in Russia right now, and of course it is also happening in many other countries.

In Russia, there is widespread opposition to the government and in general there is a lot of distrust with the authorities. And this distrust didn't appeared all of a sudden. It has been there since the 1920s, when the communists came to power. After the fall of communism, the regimes that succeeded the communists were even worse (Yeltsin first, and then Putin). And I can't blame them really, because the Putin regime is like a giant mafia. Anyway, in the end it is always the ordinary people who are going to suffer.
699  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: July 28, 2021, 02:15:43 PM
Looks as if there will be more frustration for the fans. The Pakistan vs West Indies match is delayed by rain, and uncertainty surrounds the India vs Sri Lanka match. The official statement from Indian management is that these players will be making their debut today - Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Nitish Rana. Although it was reported that the net bowlers were added to the Indian squad, none of them got a chance to play today. This is a golden opportunity for the Sri Lankan team to get a win against India. It is not even a second string side. It is like a fourth string side..  Grin

Today they will be playing the second T20 match, the series has not been cancelled but, a last-minute decision can be taken. Krunal is out of the series and 8 players are in isolation as a precaution. Shaw, Surya Kumar, Ishan and Hardik will not be playing today and tomorrows match. Who will be replacing these players I have no idea.

Apart from Krunal, these are the players who have been ruled out for the remainder of the series:

Prithvi Shaw
Suryakumar Yadav
Hardik Pandya
Ishan Kishan
Devdutt Padikkal
Krishnappa Gowtham

The first two were supposed to join the Indian team in UK, so I am not sure whether they will be placed under isolation or not. News18 has reported that these two (Shaw and Yadav) will now face a delay in their departure to England, but there was no confirmation from the BCCI.
