1081  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 15, 2021, 01:00:03 PM
Anyway, you have to consider that it was Latvia they were playing with and I assume it was a club friendly?  France would the same vs Latvia with the squad they got.  And from what I’ve been reading as of late Germany is in a somewhat squad rebuild phase atm.  Dunno...  I’m actually surprised to see Muller and Kroos back still in there.  I think France has the slight edge.

France only has a slight edge? Latvia is a weak team that even failed to qualify for the Euro cup (their current FIFA rank is 138). The 7-1 victory margin is astounding, but we need to remember that the win didn't came against a very strong team. The squad was comprised of most of the regulars, including Thomas Müller, Ilkay Gundogan and Serge Gnabry. France doesn't have such huge victory margins in their recent matches, because they are placed in Group D of world cup qualifiers, and it has strong teams such as Ukraine and Finland.
1082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BNB will break $1000 soon. What are ways for BNB holders to earn free money? on: June 15, 2021, 12:52:07 PM
It is actually very simple. If you want to earn returns from any "real" cryptocurrency, then all that you need to do is to hold them. Unlike fiat currency, you don't need to make any further investments. But when I say "real" cryptocurrency, I don't include shitcoins such as Doge and XRP in that category. Because they are not decentralized and most importantly they are not protected against inflation. And obviously when you are holding a coin that is not protected against inflation, it will not give you good returns in the long term.

Now coming to BNB, it is protected from inflation, because the max supply is limited. So all you need to do is to hold the coins for at least 4-5 years.
1083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crazy Dogecoin run 100x in 2 years on: June 15, 2021, 12:42:06 PM
Dogecoin huge pump caught us all by surprise before the big pump I just traded 5000 worth of Dogecoin to our local currency, Dogecoin is fast and cheap to save me from fees, and some currencies are not accepted by our local exchange I use Dogecoin to complete my transactions, never in my wildest dream that Dogecoin will be pumped this high, Dogecoin is one example that we should not give up on one coin, it could be the next coin to be pump.

This is not the first time in the history of cryptocurrency that a shitcoin is getting pumped by 100x. It has happened to so many shitcoins before, and Dogecoin is not the only one which falls in to this category. But I agree that the Dogecoin pump was conducted on a scale which was never seen before. A coin, which had a market cap of less than $500 million managed to increase it's valuation by more than 100x. But eventually, the bubble has to burst. It is just a matter of time, before the dump occurs.
1084  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What goes up must come down on: June 15, 2021, 12:32:26 PM
Yes the big and long bearish season just like in 2018 can be happen again after bull season, and hard to predict when is coming. Just prepare for that situation because the market will never bullish all the times. Just take profit and withdraw in to fiat, and avoid all in crypto in this situation. But bull market also have high probability to start again, withdraw half balance in to fiat and another remaining hold in crypto for a few month, so we will not missing if bull market extend.

Even if such a bearish phase occurs, the long term holders don't have to worry much. Because the prices are going to recover eventually and in all probability a new ATH will be attained. The global adoption of Bitcoin is happening at a rate which was not even imagined before. A couple of years back, if I was telling someone that Bitcoin would become the legal tender of an independent UN member nation, then I would have got labelled as insane and mentally unsound. And yet it has happened. And who knows? We may be only a few years away from Bitcoin becoming a truly international currency, accepted across the globe.
1085  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 15, 2021, 11:30:10 AM
Yep, I agree.  And you know what?  If the super-rich can find loopholes in the tax code or other methods in order to pay less taxes, good for them.  That's not their fault, is it?  Wouldn't you or I do the same?  I sure as hell know I would, because who wants to willingly give more to the government than they have to?  Just because Bezos, Gates, Buffett, and all the rest of them are ultra-wealthy doesn't mean they have to let their wealth trickle down to the less wealthy (if that even happens).

So I bear no grudges whatsoever toward the billionaires who legally pay the minimum amount of tax that they can.  I don't begrudge them their wealth either.  They've worked hard to get to where they are, and most of them run companies that employ thousands, if not millions, of people.

You still haven't answered my question. My question is, whether these billionaires have the right to call for higher income tax and capital gains tax (fully knowing that they won't be impacted). People like Soros have campaigned for higher taxes for the "rich". How can these people do this, when they themselves are paying almost nothing in taxes?

Check this:

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/tax-the-ultra-rich-more-george-soros-and-17-other-american-billionaires-urge-2019-06-24

Tax the ultra-rich more, George Soros and 17 other American billionaires urge

How shameless these people are, when they themselves are using all sort of loopholes to avoid paying taxes, and at the same time asking others who are not as wealthy as them (and unable to use these loopholes) to pay a higher rate of tax?
1086  Economy / Economics / Re: Bulgaria Government Shocked To Discover It Owns $3 Billion In Bitcoin on: June 15, 2021, 11:20:12 AM
Does anyone have more information what happened with this 213,519 Bitcoins and can someone identify exact addresses and transactions related with this?

In time when Bitcoin was seized from Bulgarian police it was worth around $500 million, and today that is worth more than $8,5 billion, that is more than a half of all national debt of Bulgaria ($15,5 billion according to worlddebtclocks.com)

I have seen posts claiming that Bulgaria is still holding those coins. But it needs to be confirmed. Unlike what happened when the FBI seized the coins from Ross Ulbricht (they auctioned it after a few months in 2015, for around $300 per coin), I haven't seen any news about the Bulgarian government auctioning these coins. So I would assume that they still have them. But I am surprised that there is hardly any media coverage on this. This is huge news! Because Bulgaria has essentially wiped out its national debt with the help of Bitcoins! If this news is publicized, then it will encourage other countries to hold Bitcoins in their forex reserves (albeit in small quantities).
1087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: June 15, 2021, 11:10:06 AM
@Sithara007 I would rather pick Jadeja over Aswin because if India’s top order collapses then he can score some vital runs, and he can be handy with the ball. Furthermore even I’m confused about Rahane as he’s yet not justified his selections, but I feel he should be given one last chance to perform or perish from the starting lineup.

Rahane had too many failures and keeping him in the playing XI will be a big injustice to the emerging players. Regarding Ashwin, I am still confused. Obviously he is the most experienced spinner in the squad and I don't mind him getting a spot instead of Washington Sundar. But if the selection comes at the expense of Jadeja, then it gets more complicated. Because Jadeja is one of the most underrated players in the squad now, and he has rescued the team in a number of difficult situations.
1088  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CONMEBOL] Copa America 2021 Discussion Thread on: June 15, 2021, 10:59:57 AM
You should give a little bit more respect to the chilean team IMO. They are 19th of the FIFA ranking and 5th of the CONMEBOL zone. Argentina didn't lose against them, they've just drawn against Chile and while  playing away from home in Brazil they've been able to score one goal. This is not a bad result at all, in soccer everything is possible in one single match, the best team can lose against the worst team. Their overall ball possession during the match was 49% against 51% for Chile so a draw is not undeserved at the end.

I guess some people are not yet ready to accept the fact that Argentina is not one of the top teams in world football right now. And Chile has been a strong side for many decades now. Any team that qualifies to world cup from the toughest confederation (CONMEBOL) is assured to be a strong side. Forget about Chile, even teams such as Bolivia and Venezuela are capable of big upsets. The lower tier teams of CONMEBOL can't be compared with the lower tier teams in AFC or CONCACAF. The quality is much higher.
1089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 15, 2021, 10:43:07 AM
The France-Germany match will be like the Euro 2020 Final match. I will definitely watch this match live. I don't have a favourite, the match could end in a draw. Both teams make a controlled match. If a team wins this match, they will most likely finish first in the group.

IMO, it should be a cakewalk for France. Look at their squad. It is one of the strongest sides in the tournament. I don't think that the German defenders will be able to tackle French forwards such as Kylian Mbappe or Olivier Giroud. BTW, anyone interested in the other match today (Portugal vs Hungary)? IMO, Portugal is a bit over dependent on Cristiano Ronaldo. If the Hungarian defenders can take care of Ronaldo, then I don't think that the other Portuguese forwards have the ability to launch attacks on their own.
1090  Economy / Speculation / Re: I speculate Tesla has sold their coins on: June 14, 2021, 04:48:56 PM
Well apparently now,,, Tesla have said already they are reconsidering to accept Bitcoin as a payment method again but first miners have to move to 50% green energy. I see two problems here though,,, first, how will miners react to this and why should they even care about Tesla? Secondly,,, how will even Tesla be able to verify the green energy usage?

Elon will get a better reception, if he says that to the users of some shitcoin such as Doge. We, as Bitcoin users don't really care about Elon and his Tesla company which produces overpriced crappy pieces of junk. He should first improve the quality of Tesla EVs, rather than advising Bitcoiners on how to run our business. After all the theatrics he has done, I don't think that anyone would take a favorable view of him now within the cryptocurrency community. If any of the miners want to move to green energy, then they are free to do that. But that won't be under compulsion from Elon.
1091  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Gains by Country (from Chainanalysis) on: June 14, 2021, 04:33:33 PM
I feel like Indian's must've been massively underreported. I guess this data comes from exchanges as mining profits would likely see China, sweden and Iceland higher up (or on the list).

I'd put most of the nordics at least around 0.2bn.

I imagine this data could probably be cross compiled with node by country information to determine a more accurate figure?

I strongly agree with this. Most of the Indian cryptocurrency users have been driven underground due to harassment from the authorities. The registered exchanges such as WazirX and ZebPay have around 5 million users, but if you add those who mostly depend upon P2P platforms and foreign exchanges, then the number may easily cross 25 million. Active users may be 4-5 million out of this 25 million. The last time I visited India (in 2019), I was really surprised with the abundance of local cryptocurrency user communities even in the tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India.
1092  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 14, 2021, 04:21:15 PM
So, as I said, they don't do anything illegal. Anyone could do it, there are no laws broken, and there no quotas in those laws, where you have to be at least worth $100m to benefit from some of those. If you want to discuss how billionaires are avoiding this in a way the average Joe can't feel free to give one example that can't be replicated by an average income citizen.

This hunt for the rich will end badly as it has always done.
~~~
I am not saying that they are doing anything illegal here. The loopholes have been created so that these people can pay almost nothing in taxes. I will give on example:
A billionaire purchases 20 pieces of real estate worth $1 million each. Out of these 20 plots, 2 (A,B) goes down in value by 20% each. Another 4 (C,D,E,F) neither appreciates, nor depreciates. And yet another 4 (G,H,I,J) pieces go up by 10% each.  And the remaining 10 plots go up by 50% each. Now the total net worth of the 20 plots have gone up from $20 million, to a total of $25 million. The net worth of the investor goes up by $5 million.
Now comes the interesting part. The investor sells the plots A to J, and he receives a total of $10 million after the sale. Now on this $10 million he needs to pay zero tax, since the losses from plots A and B makes up for the profits from the other plots. And meanwhile, he is still left with $15 million worth of property.
Ordinary people can't do this, simply because they can't afford to purchase dozens of different properties in different regions. And this is not just applicable with real estate, but also with stocks or cryptocurrencies. As such there is nothing illegal in doing this. But it puts the super-rich at an unfair advantage compared to the others.
1093  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 14, 2021, 02:29:04 PM
It is just getting crazier. Another excellent save from the Czech goalkeeper. I would say that if anyone else was the goalkeeper other than Vaclik, then Scotland would have at least equalized by now (but then it will be Schick who gets all the credit for the win today). So far in this match, he made at least 3 superhuman saves. With around 20 minutes remaining, I don't think that Scotland has a chance here. Now the Scotland vs England match on Friday gets really interesting. Scotland at least need a draw from that match to stay alive in the competition.
1094  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 14, 2021, 02:12:42 PM
Looks like it is all over for Scotland. Czechia ahead by 2-0. Unbelievable second goal from Patrik Schick (his second in this match). Now Scotland needs a minimum of 4 points from their matches against Croatia and England. Scotland wanted the equalizer so badly that they ignored their defense. Even the goalkeeper had come out of the penalty box. Schick made use of the opportunity and scored his second. If anyone missed the second goal, then make sure that you watch the highlights of this match. I would rate it as the best goal so far in this year's tournament.
1095  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 14, 2021, 01:48:34 PM
If you check the table, you can see that many of them have realized gains and income.
And Warren has realized 125 million and paid 25 million in tax, according to the same sources that's 20% and nowhere near the 0.10% that Pulitzer socialist piece of ....paper claims. As I said, presenting a distorted image incites the masses to grab their pitchforks, even labeling that as "true tax" when they obviously know that's not the case, they float around the billions in unrealized gains and that's all.
The percentage is derived after dividing the tax paid by the growth in wealth for the 2014-18 period. 18.96% paid by Warren Buffet is still far below the long term capital gains tax rate. Well, in case of Buffet we can say that at least he paid some amount of tax. But what about Bloomberg? He paid tax at a rate of 2.92%. Even if all of his income comprised of long term capital gains, the applicable tax rate is far below what ordinary people would have paid. My issue here is that people like Bloomberg argues in favor of higher taxes all the time, and still refuses to pay even the normal tax rates.
You seems to have missed the most important point raised by ProPublica:
1096  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: June 14, 2021, 01:34:27 PM
Did anyone checked the points table for ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League? I know it is a bit early, but South Africa and Sri Lanka remains at the rock bottom (#12 and #13 respectively). Netherlands has moved to the #9 spot, with their two wins over Ireland. The next set of matches is going to be in England, where the hosts will face Sri Lanka. A 3-0 series win for England would mean Sri Lanka remaining at the 13th spot, with England moving up to the top spot (they are in second position now).
1097  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 14, 2021, 12:37:13 PM
Today I bet on the victories of Poles and Spaniards. Spain is the absolute favorite of this group and I will be very surprised if they advance further with a result other than 3 wins. However, the competition for second place can be very even. Slovakia can make a surprise, but they do not have such stars as Robert Lewandowski, so I give Poles more chances.
These two are more or less one sided matches. Slovakia is not in great form recently and Sweden is simply not the same team without Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The most competitive match will start in 30 minutes from now, in which Czechia will take on Scotland. These two are teams of almost equal strength. And the winner in all probability will be able to qualify to the knockout phase. But a draw during today's match would further complicate the calculations (while making the computation easier for England).
1098  Economy / Economics / Re: George Soros and Bezos have paid almost zero taxes on: June 14, 2021, 12:27:38 PM
That wealth growth is a bit misleading.
Let's assume you have bought 1 million in BTC when it was at 3k and now you're up 10x times at 10 million, you har a $9million growth in assets but you didn't sell a dime, you shouldn't be taxed for those gains, right? Same for shares in a company, those are unrealized gains I doubt Buffet has sold 24billions of shares lately and probably the same is for almost everyone on that list.
That article is heavily biased, and I can't really take seriously any paper that has its main category of news labeled "racial justice", it's just another of those attempts to make the rich look bad and that we have to tax them as much s we can so that the new social paradise can be built. The wealth tax has failed miserably in Europe, France has tried it two times and the consequences have been so clear I doubt they will try it the third time, you simply lose more money than what you get.
As for the democrats, they also know the truth, if they tax the rich they will lose more money from capital outflow than they would make, so this whole taxation thing is just propaganda to get more votes for the poor class, and since obviously they can't hit those ones with taxes the only once they can fleece is the middle class, as usual.
If you check the table, you can see that many of them have realized gains and income. But using various loopholes they have avoided paying taxes. As per ProPublica, these billionaires take advantage of "tax-avoidance strategies beyond the reach of ordinary people". For example, according to the data that is released, Michael Bloomberg had a taxable income of $10.0 billion during 2014-18. Yet he paid an income tax of only $292 million. Here, I am not talking about wealth growth or unrealized gains, but taxable income.
https://www.propublica.org/article/the-secret-irs-files-trove-of-never-before-seen-records-reveal-how-the-wealthiest-avoid-income-tax
Quote
In 2007, Jeff Bezos, then a multibillionaire and now the world’s richest man, did not pay a penny in federal income taxes. He achieved the feat again in 2011. In 2018, Tesla founder Elon Musk, the second-richest person in the world, also paid no federal income taxes. Michael Bloomberg managed to do the same in recent years. Billionaire investor Carl Icahn did it twice. George Soros paid no federal income tax three years in a row.
I am forced to post this, because a lot of people have been brainwashed into thinking that the Democrats are in favor of higher taxes for the rich. Democrat heavyweights such as Michael Bloomberg and George Soros always argue in favor of higher income and capital gains taxes. But the truth is that the Democrats only want the middle class to pay taxes. Billionaires such as Soros and Bloomberg never pays a penny in taxes, because they never sell any of their assets. Instead, they take loans by mortgaging their assets. And yet, they are thick skinned enough to gloat in the public that the "rich" should pay more taxes.
This is the reality behind the new "American families plan" by Joe Biden. The additional $6 trillion burden will fall on the middle class, while the uber-rich will continue to pay near-zero taxes.
According to the research by ProPublica, the billionaires in the US saw their wealth increasing by $401 billion between 2014 and 2018. And they paid a total of $13.6 billion in income taxes during this period (which corresponds to a rate of 3.4%). An upper middle class family in high-tax states such as California and New York are required to pay close to 60% of their income as taxes, while these people are paying around 1/20th of that amount.
If people still believe in Biden and his stupid spending plans, then the future looks hopeless for the United States.
1100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: June 14, 2021, 07:28:06 AM
The spectator is the lifeblood of the game. When there are spectators on the field, the players get more excited and try to play better. Due to covid, all kinds of games have become a bit slow. The spectators cannot go to the field. The matches of PSL and IPL are not as lively as before.
In case you want spectators, then the tournament needs to be shifted to some country where spectators are allowed (I am talking about countries such as England). The UAE government doesn't allow spectators in stadiums and there is nothing that the PCB or the BCCI (or for that matter the ICC) can do about it. In England the Vitality Blast T20 tournament is going on, and I can see thousands of fans in the stands. And some of the British counties had offered to host the IPL in England, which was turned down by the BCCI.
