421  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 30, 2021, 10:45:03 AM
Same on my country the vaccination is still lagging behind, we are at around 70% of the people vaccinated, but the politicians say we need 85% to achieve some kind of herd immunity. So far we still don't know when and how exactly the corona virus was spread in China. I read articles that say people where treated in hospital with corona symptoms already in September 2019, that would be 2 years now.

We may never know about the real origin of the virus, because China has now put an iron curtain on any information related to it. And it is impossible to independently verify any information, without their help. But I have to say one thing. If there is any country in the world that has benefitted from the pandemic, that has to be China. They have sold billions of doses of the Sinopharm/Sinovac/Cansino vaccines, at a time when the other vaccine manufacturers struggled to scale up their production. Their vaccines were priced at around $40 per dose, which means that the Chinese government received hundreds of billions of USD from the vaccines alone.
422  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-08-21] Inside Afghanistan's cryptocurrency underground as the country plu on: August 30, 2021, 07:40:56 AM
I just wish that the Talibans won't be too bold with cryptocurrencies and that guy might not the only one that has crypto assets.

He chose to go back because of their economy status and probably his portfolio is giving him that feeling that he's at a good status.

The last thing we actually want is the Taliban confiscating cryptocurrency from users in Afghanistan and using it for purchase of weapons and terror financing. That would give the perfect excuse for the western governments to shut down Bitcoin mixers, DEX platforms and P2P exchanges. They may even go for KYC on online wallets. So far it looks as if Bitcoin is too technological for Taliban to understand it's purpose, but we can't be sure whether the situation will remain like that for the long-term.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cuba 🇨🇺 regulates the use of cryptocurrencies for commercial operations on: August 30, 2021, 07:30:07 AM
I am getting really suspicious about the whole episode. When socialist countries talk about "regulation", it doesn't have the same meaning as it has in the western nations. First they will collect information about the cryptocurrency users and their holdings. And when the time is correct, they will move towards seizing these valuable assets. And Cuba is not new to this type of asset confiscation. It has occurred on a regular basis ever since Fidel Castro became the Prime Minister in 1959, by overthrowing Fulgencio Batista.
424  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria leads sub-Saharan Africa’s P2P bitcoin trade on: August 30, 2021, 07:20:12 AM
The funny thing is that the government made it harder for them to even try and track the people, with p2p it's always too hard to get locations and at the same time they can also do it internationally with the Nigerians living outside the country, which I have seen personally. So the government indirectly made sure that people use Bitcoins independently and don't rely on any third party apps too. So therefore I do think in few years the government might have to try and reincorporate the bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies because banning is clearly not working out for them in a healthy way. Let's see how long they might have to wait for something like that to happen.

A number of countries tried to ban Bitcoin previously. Some of them still have the ban in place, such as Bangladesh. But how effective have been these bans? I have heard about a few traders getting arrested in Bangladesh. But that didn't forced the Bitcoiners to stop their activity. The trading simply moved underground, using various P2P platforms and DEX sites. In most of the third world countries, it is the same story. On the other hand, the Western nations tried to regulate the market, and were successful to some extent.
425  Economy / Economics / Re: Ekonomi Pakistan Akan Krisis Taliban? on: August 30, 2021, 07:10:24 AM
Pakistan certainly has an impact with Afghanistan after being controlled by the Taliban, they are 2 countries but there are many similarities in the population there, I hope Pakistan can play an active role in helping Afghanistan so that it can create better economic and political conditions than before.

One of the provinces of Pakistan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) is mostly populated by the Pashto speaking people. Back in 1947-48, there was a movement to merge the province with Afghanistan (previously the entire area was part of the Afghan Durrani Empire). And some of the Pakistani officials still believe that Afghanistan is interested in merging the province to their territory. This is also one of the reasons why Pakistan has aided the Taliban, so that they could weaken the Afghan government.
426  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 30, 2021, 06:49:48 AM
India must need to consider the problems of middle order but unfortunately they are having too wreaked middle orders and I am not sure they will dare to bench their skipper Kohli. In my opinion they must consider to play Shaw to open (KL Rahul for 5th down) and for 6th down, Surya Kumar Yadhav might be a right choice and this way they may bench Rahane and Pant (KL Rahul will take care of wicket keeping). For the balance of experienced and new players, Pujara and Kohli may retain their spots.

Shaw is not suitable for test cricket. The only young player who has the temperament to play test cricket in my opinion is Shreyas Iyer. Other like Shaw and Gill doesn't know how to change their batting style in surfaces that offer a lot of bounce and seam movement. And I am against changing the opening pair of Rohit and Rahul. They have done relatively well so far, when compared to the middle order batsmen. SKY needs to play the fourth match. I would kick out Rahane to make room for him (not sure about Pant though).
427  Economy / Economics / Re: Enjoy comunism (II): Venezuela to cut 6 zeros from its currency on: August 29, 2021, 06:30:41 PM
Well, the example with YUKOS is generally not about communism - in Russia there is a mixture of banditry (domestic politics) and terrorism (foreign policy) ...
In China, everything is more complicated - there are communist ideas of the party, and totalitarianism, and the desire to be rich and respected, but not like Kim Jong-un, one among millions of half-dead vegetable citizens ... On the other hand, an experiment with economic "freedoms" in China showed that everything worked out, but on the other hand, some "wrong personalities" appeared - rich, influential, with some Western values and a craving for freedom. And this is already "evil" for the ruling elite ... Therefore, they will now have to "tighten the screws" a little, and in some cases transfer some private businesses under state administration ... If the owners do not agree to play by the given rules

After Xi Jinping came to power, there have been a tightening of government control, and this is not restricted to any particular region in China. Xinjing and Hong Kong are well publicized because the people there have supporters in western nations. But the same is happening in the other provinces as well. The Chinese regime has now realized that now they don't need to be dependent on the western investors to bring new business. So previously they were trying to paint a picture of a liberalized country allowing some democracy and that attempt has been abandoned now.
428  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 29, 2021, 06:04:56 PM
Ashwin surely gonna play the next match and very likely he will replace Ishant sharma because all the other seemers have performed very well in the second test match and i dont think rahane would be dropped for vihari . May be one more match they will see and then make the decision.

I would prefer dropping Mohammed Siraj in order to include Ravichandran Ashwin, because I believe that being the most experienced pacer, Ishant needs to play the third test match. He was disappointing during the second test, but would consider that as a one-off occurrence. He is currently the only Indian pacer to have a tally of more than 300 test wickets. But it will be really hard, as Kohli prefers Siraj. Also there is a perception that Ishant is the weakest tailend batsman in the Indian playing XI.
429  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 29, 2021, 05:55:09 PM
ZIM 152/5,  IRE 153/3 18.3 overs

Dude, that's just cricket and T20I, there's no hope for next seconds. In a single over, anything can happen, so keep your eyes on the screen. But no thriller today. In the 19th over, Ireland scored the required runs. A successful comeback by Ireland against Zimbabwe in the second T20I levels the five-match series.

Yeah.. this time Ireland managed to chase the total, although the target was higher when compared to the last match. After a long time, Kevin O'Brien scored a double century. Along with George Dockrell, he is the only remaining member of the Ireland team, which defeated England in 2011. Never got an opportunity to play IPL, but showcased his talent in some of the other T20 leagues such as the CPL. Paul Stirling is perhaps their best batsman now. But IPL franchises have shown little interest with him as well.
430  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 29, 2021, 02:32:52 PM
Now, that theres already a vaccine, it gives hope to people that this pandemic will end soon and everyone can continue their normal life. On the current pandemic, many people lives were affected. So I am grateful that theres already a vaccine eventhough the supply is limited because they need to produce a million vaccine a day that can cause it to be delayed sometimes or the distributions takes time. but atleast theres a way to end this pandemic.
And also, the people needs to be disciplined and cooperate to government to stop this pandemic too.

Considering the fact that 80% of the population needs to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity (previously the experts were saying that 60% would be enough, but now with the spread of delta variant, they have revised this estimate to 80%), we need around 18 billion doses of the vaccine. Unfortunately, only the Chinese companies are able to produce vaccines on such massive quantities. And these Chinese vaccines (Sinopharm, Sinovac, Cansino.etc) have proved very ineffective against the delta variant. Pfizer has been able to scale up their production to a certain amount. But others, like Moderna and Sputnik are facing huge issues in doing that.
431  Economy / Economics / Re: Cuba the next country to accept cryptocurrencies? on: August 29, 2021, 02:08:33 PM
But it is interesting - the population of Cuba is familiar with such words as "volatility" and "speculative market"? I mean that it is highly probable that on euphoria, the Cubans will buy cryptocurrencies, and she will once again make a drawdown by 2 times. And the next howl about the "imperialist conspiracy" will begin Smiley And then the Cubans will quickly, in a panic, sell everything at the lowest price ... Which after a while will grow again ... Well, you understand what I mean Smiley

Until a few months ago, there were two currencies having the status of legal tender in Cuba. The first one was the national currency (Cuban Peso), while the second one was (Cuban Convertible Peso or CUC). CUC was pegged to the US Dollar. After it's withdrawal, the Cubans are without a currency which is not manipulated in the forex market. I guess Bitcoin would fill that gap. As you mentioned, volatility is going to be a problem. But if people use it as a store of value, then they will be holding it hopefully for the long term.
432  Economy / Economics / Re: What is better - cryptocurrency trading or investing? on: August 29, 2021, 01:31:27 PM
This is my take on the subject - trading doesn't make sense with assets, which are likely to go up considerably in the future. With such assets, the long term investment strategy needs to be followed. On the other hand, there are coins such as Dogecoin and Ripple, for which the long term potential is in doubt. You can try these coins for trading. If you sell Bitcoin at some point, then there is a good chance that the price would go up within a short period of time and you will be forced to buy back at higher prices.
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Tesla going to accept BTC again soon? on: August 29, 2021, 01:21:17 PM
if you ask if tesla will accept bitcoin again,, for now i am no longer interested in following the tesla company, the reason is because elon musk has no stand, his tweets often change, sometimes he posts negative things about bitcoin, and sometimes he also posts positive things about bitcoin, for that reason I personally am not very interested in following them anymore..

I probably hate Elon and Tesla more than you do, but still I understand that there is some benefit in Tesla accepting Bitcoin. I have no plans to purchase a Tesla vehicle anytime in the next 10 years, but let other Bitcoin users have the freedom to do that spending some of their coins. Tesla still have a lot of BTC in their cash reserves and it makes perfect sense for them to accept BTC again. Bitcoin has already provided them with $1 billion in profits. If they resume accepting Bitcoin, then hopefully Elon would keep his mouth shut this time and will not create chaos in the market.
434  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-08-26]11% of young Americans have invested their stimulus checks into cryp on: August 29, 2021, 01:11:13 PM
11% is a small number, however, yes it might be a very noticeable trend for the regulators. I reckon this is why they want to create stricter rules and impose more limits on those who want to buy and invest in the cryptospace. I speculate that everything in the cryptospace might become similar to Hong Kong where it is needed to be a professional licensed trader to directly buy and sell cryptoassets.

No. It is not a small number, given the pandemic situation. COVID has impacted a lot of Americans really hard and young people are the worst affected demographic group (given their relative lack of savings). Out of those who were able to invest, the proportion of those who went for cryptocurrency is almost the same as those who went for stocks. Can you believe that? The combined market cap of NYSE+NASDAQ stands at $50 trillion, while that of the cryptocurrency market is around 1/25th of that amount. And trust me, when these youngsters grow up, they are not going to change their investment pattern.
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's gonna buy Tesla using Bitcoin? on: August 29, 2021, 01:01:05 PM
When I am spending $35,000 or $45,000 to purchase a brand new car, I am at least expecting a vehicle that I can use for 10-15 years without major issues. But with Tesla, I need to replace the battery every 5 years or so, and it is going to cost me at least $10-15K. I understand that they have developed some batteries which can last much longer. But they are not allowed, since these batteries are prone to overheating and explosions. They need to improve their battery technology.

It is not just the battery issue. Overall maintenance costs are much higher with Tesla. So unless you are a radical environmentalist, it doesn't make much sense to go for a Tesla EV. You can get a better gasoline driven car for less than half the cost. The catch here is that gasoline prices are going up and if the oil price once again reach three digits ($ per barrel), then it may burn a hole in your pocket. But if you take in to account the battery replacement costs and the expenses required for maintenance, then it is almost even.
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers/Public will have Access to Quantum Computers in 5-10 years? on: August 29, 2021, 12:51:12 PM
o_e_l_e_o has already answered it in the best way possible. And even if it may not take "centuries" as he claimed, I would say that we are safe for at least the next 10-15 years. And by some miracle if it happens earlier, then all it takes is a hard fork to change the SHA-256 algorithm to something more secure. Some of the altcoins may be impacted in the future by the advance in quantum computing. But I don't really foresee any real challenge to Bitcoin. If the status quo remains for another 10 years, then it will be enough for me.
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your first bitcoins came from.. (faucets aside) on: August 29, 2021, 12:41:04 PM
My first bitcoins came from Primedice signature campaign way back September 2014. From then on, I started to buy a little amount of btc every month and I have never failed to do so for the past 10 months.

How'd you get your first bitcoins (faucets aside) and what did you do to them?

This is strange. I was also part of the Primedice signature campaign, and used to earn really good amounts (1-2 BTC per month) before they restricted the campaign to just staff members. But my first coins came in 2012. And if I remember correctly, they came from a few give-away campaigns in this forum. And by the end of 2012, I purchased my first coins (I guess the price was around $10 per coin back then). There were a few other sources, such as Rugatu and Bittrivia, which used to tip BTC0.01 or so every now and then. I guess I earned 2-3 BTC from Rugatu alone.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cuba central bank now recognize Bitcoin on: August 29, 2021, 12:31:17 PM
I am not yet sure whether this is a good news or bad news for the cryptocurrency users in Cuba. Recognition by the central bank is good. But we don't know the details about how they are going to regulate cryptocurrency. I guess now the users may need to undergo KYC process and may be forced to trade their coins through government approved channels. I don't want to sound overly skeptical as well about the Resolution 215. There is a chance that the Cuban regime has learnt a few lessons from countries such as El Salvador.
439  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 29, 2021, 12:21:05 PM
They still have 4 more matches to play. It is a  possibility that their attitude changes from next match onwards. Zimbabwe has been playing a few matches before this tournament, that is why they are playing better than the Irish team.

Ireland is ahead of Zimbabwe in the ICC T20 rankings, and they had the home advantage. On top of that, Zimbabwe was missing some of the regular players. There is no excuse to the pathetic show put up by Ireland during the first match. If they want to do justification to their newly acquired test status, then they need to be consistent. Now they can't even claim that England is stealing their best players. Stirling, Balbirnie.etc have rejected lucrative offers from English counties to represent Ireland (unlike what Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin did in their prime).
440  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: August 29, 2021, 12:11:12 PM
Still good money for Caleb and this good be his biggest paycheck, $10 million + ppv, most likely in the tune of $11 million++ regardless. Kovalev and Jacobs has made their names though that's why a slight higher purse.

Yeah, if he somehow upset Canelo, then maybe they will set up a rematch and he can make double his money, risk worth taking at this point of his career.

What makes you think that he will settle for just $10 million for the rematch, in case he wins this one? Caleb is yet to make his name like Canelo, and that is why he agreed to such a lop-sided deal ($10 million for him and $40 million for Canelo as the guaranteed purse). If he upsets Canelo, then the next time he is not going to settle for an amount which is lower than that given to Canelo. It can be 30-20 (in Caleb's favor) or at least 25-25. This is the fight of his life. If he loses this one, then in all probability he will not get a similar opportunity for the remainder of his career.
