481  Economy / Economics / Re: Would you be able to take an additional work if required? on: August 23, 2021, 02:09:22 PM
What is the situation in your country and for yourself? Would you be able to land additional work for example working with crypto, selling stuff on-line, youtubing or something else?

Most of these tasks can't be done part-time. Selling stuff and all takes a lot of time and effort, at least during the initial few months. And in case you can't respond to the queries on time, or not able to ship the products without delay, then the business will suffer. Making videos in YouTube is another such profession. If you are not making videos on a regular basis, then the subscribers will desert you. And this is not an easy job. Making a 10 minute video takes 2-3 days of effort, in filming, editing.etc.
482  Economy / Economics / Re: Are you making money online? on: August 23, 2021, 01:35:26 PM
I am part of a signature campaign, but it is just 1 hour or so of work per day and whatever earnings that comes from it act as passive income. My regular job now takes 8-10 hours per day, and therefore it is very difficult to do any real part time work (other than this signature campaign). BTW, it was 16 years ago when I first took part in online jobs. I was a student back then, and I used to receive $10-$20 for forum posting (at a rate of around $0.05 per post). I stopped all that, when crypto started providing huge returns.
483  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: {Boxing} Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas on: August 23, 2021, 01:24:59 PM
Pacquiao said that he experience leg cramps starting on round 2. Not one but both of his legs are cramping according to him, might be due to overtraining, or because he is really not that young anymore.

I've posted my bet on Manny to win by UD, but I think he lost because he doesn't have anymore. So it's a concern if he still wants another fight, might be better to retire before he become a damage goods.

No one expected Manny to lose against Ugas, so it was shocking. But at the same time, we should not judge his entire career based on the result from just one match. Ugas has already said that Manny is a legend and he would offer him a rematch. Let's hope that the rematch actually happens and Manny manages to win that one. Apart from that, I am of the opinion that Pacquiao deserve a farewell match, and that should be against an opponent like Spence. He is a legend and we can't allow him to be remembered for his loss against Ugas.
484  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: {Boxing} Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas on: August 23, 2021, 12:55:17 PM
I think a lot of betting exchanges are getting quite a lot of profit after  Pacquiao lose in the match, because before the fight started, many people (including me) were betting for the win of Pacquiao Grin.
Even though Pacquiao lost that fight, but for me he is still a great boxer and knows no fear of his opponent, even though it is clear the opponent he is facing is younger and has more stamina than Pacquiao, with this defeat it looks like Pacquiao will soon end his career in boxing with record 62 wins (39 KOs), 8 losses and 2 draw.

Yeah.. you are right. If the opponent was Spence, then there would have been considerable number of bets in his favor. But no one really predicted Ugas to win the match, especially after rumors circulated that he was suffering from an injury in his left bicep. I made a decision not to make a bet, because I thought it was impossible for Ugas to win. And trust me, none of the people I know made a bet in favor of Ugas. Some of them stayed away from this match, while others made a bet in favor of Pacquiao and lost money.
485  Economy / Economics / Re: Why don't banks work with cryptocurrency? on: August 23, 2021, 12:40:13 PM
This is not exactly accurate, banks love risk and because they are necessary for the economy to work if they take a risk and they lose then the government needs to rescue them as they are too big to fail, so it does not mater what they do they win, but they do not like bitcoin at all because they can see that bitcoin is a direct competitor and they see as well they cannot destroy it, so they are doing the best they can at the moment to slow down the adoption of bitcoin until they can figure out a plan to destroy it completely.

Makes sense. Credit cards and payment gateways represent a major source of revenue for the banks. If cryptocurrency becomes a popular mode of payment, then it will make credit cards obsolete. The banks definitely don't want this. But at the same time, the banks can benefit from cryptocurrency if they integrate it to their platform. Look at PayPal. They posted record profits this year, after accepting Bitcoin for the first time in 2020. The difference between mainstream banks and PayPal is that the latter looked for a mutually beneficial method where both the sides benefit in the end.
486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: August 23, 2021, 12:30:13 PM
I was watching the news closely about the situation and there are some protest from woman from some parts of Afghanistan, earlier they used to execute people in public when they protest and this time they are allowing these to happen. But the general viewpoint is that since there is international media covering these things, the Taliban is letting that happen and once that dies down they will enforce their barbarian rule.

Sports will be affected without a doubt and Rashid Khan who is their successful player conveyed his situation as he is not able to help his relatives back home.

It is a just a matter of time before the ICC suspends Afghanistan from its primary membership. They did the same when South Africa implemented apartheid policies. So why should it be any different this time? If they allow Afghanistan to participate in the ICC tournaments and receive funding, then there is no guarantee that the funds will not flow into the Taliban treasury. Hopefully Afghan players like Rashid Khan and Mujibur Rahman will be able to make a living by playing in franchise leagues around the world.
487  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the biggest investment opportunity in the future on: August 23, 2021, 12:19:29 PM
This is exactly what is alarming, because many people speak about the overheating of the stock market, and especially about high-tech companies. Therefore, it is not necessary to nod at other traditional sectors of the market, because the entire previous history of cryptocurrencies seems to teach that the correction in the cryptocurrency market is much more painful than in traditional markets. It will be terribly interesting to watch, or even just terrible to watch, what will happen in the markets when the state's financial stimulus measures finally begin to be curtailed due to the outbreak of the pandemic, because this cannot continue indefinitely. Unless, of course, the main purpose of these actions is hyperinflation.

If you are a long term investor, then there is nothing you need to be afraid about corrections. And we have been through multiple phases of corrections. I first purchased BTC in 2012. And since then, I have been through many corrections, both major and minor. The first one was in mid-2013, which lasted only a few months. The next one lasted for 2-3 years (2014-16), while the last major correction was in 2019. The only thing you need to remember here is not to panic sell. Otherwise you should be OK. Corrections may last a few months, or a few years. But eventually the prices will increase.
488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: August 23, 2021, 12:06:36 PM
^^^ It is good that a former captain is appointed as the chairman of PCB. In India also, Sourav Ganguly was recently appointed as the president of the BCCI. These former players are more knowledgeable than the businessmen about various issues faced by the players. Ganguly was instrumental in removing BCCI's opposition to including cricket in the Olympics. Similarly, I believe that Rameez will also make revolutionary changes to cricket in Pakistan. First of all, they need a complete revamp of the domestic tournament.
489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 23, 2021, 11:56:00 AM
Too early to think of this match draw and Pakistan loses the series. I think Pakistan have taken quick 3 wickets and are in a very good condition to make a match out of it. But we do not need a single delay because of the rain. If there is another spell of rain, then i am afraid the match will result in a draw. West Indies will be happy if the rain spoils the match and they will win the series ON THE PAPER.

Only two days remain and rain interruption is predicted for the next two days as well. On top of that, the ground is very poorly constructed and it doesn't allow play even when there is no rain, as the water is retained for some more time. For a win, Pakistan need to force West Indies to follow on. But that is not realistic, as West Indies just need 103 runs to avoid that. Pakistan needs a miracle to win this match and thereby level the series. And actually there is a small chance of that happening, since they are very unpredictable.
490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 22, 2021, 06:26:15 PM
Only 1.2 overs were bowled and the game was stopped then. The filed wasn't suitable for playing. The first session of day 3 is wasted. The match is continued now, but we shouldn't expect anything else than a draw from this point. And I agree with you. A reserve day will be helpful in these cases. ICC should implement the reserve day for each test game like they used it in WTC final match. It was effective too.

There is no need for a reserve day. The delay here was not caused as a result of rain. The delay was resulted from the inability of the ground staff to keep the ground properly covered. And this has occurred on a regular basis in the West Indies, although it is almost unheard in any other country. The ICC should take note of this and issue a warning to the WICB. I feel bad for the Pakistani batsmen, as they were in a good position. If play gets delayed further, then in all probability this test will end in a draw.
491  Economy / Economics / Re: Coinbase IPO was the largest IPO in 2021. 86 billion USD valuation on: August 22, 2021, 06:15:22 PM
Given how "small" Coinbase is compared to Binance in terms of trading volume and customer base (and probably also profitability), I was expecting the stock to drop by a lot. If you compare businesses across a sector, why should Coinbase have a higher valuation than Binance? That didn't make sense to me. Or do you know of any specific reasons why that could be justified?

That's strange. Coinbase claims to have tens of millions of active users, and most of their userbase is from North America/Europe. Binance may be having a higher number of users (but the margin may not be very large), mostly from East Asia. In terms of overall trade volume, Binance has the edge over Coinbase. Taking in to account all these factors, the valuation should be more or less similar for these two. And at this point, Binance is valued 1.5 times higher than Coinbase ($76 billion vs $54 billion).
492  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: August 22, 2021, 04:53:48 PM
The weather prediction says that there is a good chance of rain, for today and tomorrow. And given the poor run-off system in West Indian grounds, that means that the entire day's play will be called off even if it rains for a couple of hours. The stadiums in Jamaica and Barbados were not constructed with rain interruptions in mind. At this point, it is difficult to say who is having the advantage. Pakistan is mid-way through their first innings. And given how unpredictable they are, I would not make a comment.

The sun is bright today and hopefully there will be some cricket if it stays the same. However the match is still delayed because of the wet outfield. If it does not rain today, we will surely see some action today in the 3rd day.

From ESPN:-
Quote
9.25 am: The start will be delayed. There is an inspection at 9.40 am. So apparently, the ground is still not fully ready. Although the sun is out in full force, like it was on Day 1, and it's a sweltering day so far.

LOL... this was what I was talking about. Even on a sunny day, the match got delayed. The drainage runoff system in West Indian grounds is very poor and this is not the first time that matches are getting delayed due to wet outfield. I don't think that we'll get a result from this match. It is the third day, and the first innings is yet to be completed. The plus point for West Indies is that they managed to get both the in form batsmen out (Babar Azam and Fawad Alam), before they could get to a century.
493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Walmart hiring ad raises bitcoin price to $48,000 on: August 22, 2021, 02:17:00 PM
I strongly suspect that Walmart is planning to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies sometime this year. While the focus has been on Amazon, it looks as of Walmart was silently making their moves on cryptocurrency. Anyway, within the next 6 to 12 months, we are going to witness a number of major retail chains (both online and offline) accepting Bitcoin. And if just an advertisement can cause this sort of price movement for BTC, you can imagine what will happen once they actually start accepting Bitcoin as a mode of payment.
494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a new blockchain that will compete with Ethereum? on: August 22, 2021, 01:54:09 PM
On paper, there are several blockchains that are more advanced when compared to the Ethereum blockchain. ETH is a second generation cryptocurrency and third generation cryptos such as Cardano have been in existence for many years now. And several fourth generation projects are in active development. And unlike the case with Bitcoin, I don't see any real reason to stick with Ethereum. The ERC-20 chain doesn't offer the same level of protection as the Bitcoin blockchain, and we hear about hacks and robberies every now and then. It is still being used, because the other competing chains are yet to demonstrate fully that they are secure and safe.
495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kid already making $32k monthly through ethtereum on: August 22, 2021, 01:32:06 PM
I still remember when I started with cryptocurrency mining. My laptop was pretty fucked up, so I actually used the desktop at my office for mining. Initially tried mining Bitcoin (in early 2013), but gave up due to very low returns. Then I tried mining Litecoin and was earning around 0.1 LTC per day. However, after a few days I gave up, because I was afraid that the guys at office will find it out and fire me from my job. Anyway, congratulations to these kids. I read that they have 94 mining rigs. So even at $32,000 per month, it will take a while to break even.
496  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency is the biggest investment opportunity in the future on: August 22, 2021, 01:21:06 PM
We're at about $50,000 right now.  Bitcoin was perhaps the “best” investment opportunity when it was below $1,000, but it’s no longer likely to put up the super massive growth numbers anymore. At this price, it is just as likely that the a basket of technology stocks outperforms bitcoin from this point out. Bitcoin is likely going to largely correlate with the overall stock market from here.

Maybe you are right. From what I heard, the user base is increasing at a rate of around 50% to 100% per year. On the other hand, during the last 12 months, the exchange rates went up by around 500%. Even in the previous year, we had >100% rise in prices. Going by these numbers, I get an impression that Bitcoin is currently in the overpriced territory.

But I don't agree with one part of your statement. You are generalizing all the stocks, rather than focusing on tech stocks. Many of the tech stocks have gone up by as much as Bitcoin during the last 18 months. TSLA went up by 2,000% (although it is not a tech stock). Facebook went up by more than 100%. AMZN and AAPL went up by 80%. AMD gave >100% returns.
497  Economy / Economics / Re: Why would people ever use bitcoin if its expected to always go up? on: August 22, 2021, 01:11:05 PM
I am someone who has kept most of my Bitcoin stash for the long term. But that hasn't prevented me from making payments using Bitcoin every now and then. Because I book my profits on a regular interval. For profit booking, I either convert my coins to fiat directly, or use some of my coins to pay bills and purchase gift cards. And the latter scenario is what the OP is mentioning. I know about a few guys who are adamant that they will never sell their coins before the exchange rate reaches $1 million, but don't count the majority of the users among them.
498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are you bullish or bearish this year? on: August 22, 2021, 01:01:11 PM
I have an experience of almost a decade in cryptocurrency sector and I would say from my experience that the outlook is extremely bullish for crypto. The prohibition of mining ban in China was the most repressive governmental action that the cryptocurrency sector witnessed during it's existence. And we survived it. And better still, now a large part of the mining activity has moved away from China. So overall, this step resulted in more benefits rather than harm. The adoption and acceptability is increasing at a steady pace, not impacted by any of these measures. So the exchange rates should move upwards in the near future.
499  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: August 22, 2021, 12:51:15 PM
first time know about vaccine, people ready to take of virus from their life. when the vaccine ready, people already get used to the situation, and like what you said before. its mean people dont care about virus, they just go around, break the rules, and live a life like no virus anymore

And that is the reason why we are getting so many new cases among the fully vaccinated. Vaccines have a very low efficacy rate against the delta variant. There is a good chance of getting infected even if you have received two doses of the vaccine. So it is best to carry on with all the precautions and social distancing protocols even after receiving two doses of the vaccine. The danger is not over yet and no one should be fooled by a false sense of security, even if they have received two doses of the vaccine. BTW, the third booster dose is already in the pipeline.
500  Economy / Economics / Re: Central bank digital currency will improve the use cases and value of Bitcoin on: August 22, 2021, 12:41:26 PM
Let's not mix fiat digital currencies with crypto! That fiat digital will not change anything that's important, fiat will still be fiat, just in digital form, but with the same people on the top who are running the show as before! The only good thing that will come out from this will be rising awareness of digital, but when people start to understand digital they will move to crypto as something better than fiat!
Istiak2277 is right, not all countries will try to discourage people from using crypto, some will/are very opened and friendly to crypto! I believe we will see more of that in the future, and the ones who oppose strict rules about crypto will have to rethink their decisions in the future!

Agreed.

Also, fiat currencies can't compete directly against cryptocurrency, since one is protected from inflation and the other is not. So obviously the government will not allow fair competition. In most of the cases (China is the prime example), all the government wants is to eradicate decentralized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and replace them with their CBDCs. And it is not just China, countries such as Vietnam and India are also planning to do this. Anyone here really think that BTC can be replaced with CBDC? At least in my case, I don't think that it is possible.
