301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How safe is connecting your wallet to third party portfolio apps? on: September 13, 2021, 02:12:42 PM
I know that the risk is very minimal, but after almost a decade in the field of cryptocurrency, it is really hard to trust anyone. I use a third party portfolio application, but I have made all the entries manually. For me, it is easier because I am a long term holder and almost never do intraday trading. But then for short term investors and the day traders, it is impossible to manually enter all their trades. I know that the portfolio apps can only access the transaction history and wallet balance. They can't move the coins since they don't have the password and 2FA. But even then, if this information gets leaked it may put you at risk.
302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin mining isn’t a waste of energy? on: September 13, 2021, 01:58:17 PM
The only thing mining is good for is the people who make the miners.  In the arms race to have more mining capacity than everyone else, they are the only winners.

Check the post by witcher_sense above. If mining is not profitable, then no one would be doing it. Everyone is benefitting out of mining. The list is endless - governments (tax revenue), mining equipment manufacturers (sales revenue), miners (income), landlords (rental payments), exchanges, mining pool managers, ordinary cryptocurrency users (who get protection in the form of PoW for using cryptocurrency).etc. My logic is pretty simple. If printing of fiat banknotes is profitable, then mining of cryptocurrency is much more profitable compared to it.
303  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 13, 2021, 01:48:10 PM
That last part isn't true.  I think most people in the US are vaccinated by now, and the pandemic is much improved despite all the hype and continued media coverage of it.  If people who've either been vaccinated or gotten the virus and recovered are combined, immunity against COVID should be pretty high.

Despite that, governments around the world are still losing their minds over this, still requiring people to get vaccinated, and a lot of businesses are still requiring masks (even though most people are just wearing them for show at this point).  I don't think the government is responsible for keeping the pandemic at bay, but they are responsible for the policies they've set--and some of them have been completely inconsistent with science, and I hate that.

The experts are saying that 80% of the total population needs to be vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity. That is a long way off, as in the United States only 53% of the population has been fully vaccinated. So I am OK with the government and various businesses making masks mandatory. We haven't yet reached a stage where it is safe to avoid safety precautions such as masks and social distancing. I think the only country that has achieved >80% vaccination as of now is Portugal. They are followed by the UAE (78%), Qatar (76%) and Singapore (76%).
304  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 vaccination becoming a criteria to live in the world on: September 13, 2021, 01:35:18 PM
Covid 19 vaccination is necessary not only for oneself but also our family and society. There are some uneducated people in our country who are afraid to get vaccinated. But now they have to show the vaccination card to enter various educational institutions, banks, govt offices. As a result, they have been forced to vaccinate.

OK.. at least in your country the uneducated people are showing reluctance to get vaccinated. I have heard that in countries like Russia and India, even sections of educated public are staying away from vaccination. There are a lot of rumors circulating around, and this has created fear and uncertainty in the minds of people. In Russia for example, only of the 27% population has got vaccinated, despite they being one of the leading manufacturers of the vaccine. And the mortality has stayed closed to 1,000 per day in the recent months.

Disappointed with Pat Cummins. He was roped in for record amount during the auctions and he also performed well in the first leg of this year's edition. I am not sure whether Tim Southee would be able to fill the vacuum. Anyway, excited for Tim David. It is very rare to see any player from the associate nations appearing in the IPL. He used to represent Singapore, although nowadays he rarely makes his appearance for them. BTW, next year's IPL is going to be even more exciting, with a total of 10 teams.
306  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador has just bought it’s first 200 coins on: September 12, 2021, 07:06:15 PM
The other time I saw a news about some retirees who were protesting against the decision of the president of El Salvador. I guess they don’t have a clue about what cryptocurrency and blockchain is all about. But, with time they will get to understand it,and also get to know that the president is doing his best to make the best decision for the country. With a decision like this there’s sure going to be a lot of development coming their way soon.

It is now part of history that El Salvador is the first country that accepted Bitcoin as a legal tender, and that’s going to make the cryptocurrency community to stand strong with El Salvador.

It was a protest sponsored by the left-wing losers. The real pensioners are no longer protesting. They know that Bitcoin is not mandatory. And millions of Salvadorans are living outside the country and they will be able to save huge amounts if they use Bitcoin. Currently it costs around 6% of the total amount, to send remittance payments to El Salvador. So Western Union and Moneygram will take a cut of $60 for every $1,000 sent. With Bitcoin, this fees will be reduced to 1/100th. I read a news article, where they claimed that the move from El Salvador will cause a loss of $1 billion every year to money transfer businesses like WU.
307  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish or nuts? Fidelity predicts $100M bitcoin in 2035 on: September 12, 2021, 06:54:36 PM
I think that's conservative prediction. I'd rather add another two zeros to that number. Think about it, bitcoin is limited supply but FIAT is unlimited. The FED printed one third of its whole balance sheet last year. On the other hand, you cannot print any more bitcoins. The fair value for a bitcoin is infinite amount of dollars.

Maybe. But the OP has given the target of 2035. I agree with your assessment that the fair value of BTC is infinite amount of United States Dollars. But do you expect us to reach that milestone anytime soon? It's not going to happen unless there is a total economic meltdown (i.e USD will become worthless). My immediate target is $500,000 by 2025. I will be selling around half of my coins at that level. Waiting until 2035 will be fun.. although I don't know whether I will be having any coins by then.
308  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Taliban gains from US exit from Afghanistan on: September 12, 2021, 06:43:08 PM
Those arms now belong to the Talibans, there is no way the US troops can get access to it it was a planned game all alone, US mission to strengthen the Taliban and manipulate them against other Islamic militants around the borders.

And this is not the first time such an incident is occurring. Remember what happened in Mosul, when the ISIS just seized all the Humvees and all the heavy equipment from the Iraqi army (originally provided by the United States)? And four decades ago, Americans armed the Taliban with Stinger missiles and CIA training, so that they could kill the Soviet soldiers. And back then, the western media was full of propaganda articles, depicting how the evil godless Soviets were oppressing the poor Muslims in Afghanistan and how Taliban is leading the fightback.

309  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 12, 2021, 06:33:17 PM
I agree. RR is heavily dependent on the overseas players that you mentioned which is why their performance will probably be horrible in the 2nd leg.

I will not write them off. Sanju Samson may be volatile, but on his day he can single-handedly destroy the opposition. And then they have Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube. In the absence of Stokes, the star overseas player is going to be Chris Morris, with support from David Miller, Evin Lewis, Liam Livingstone and Glenn Phillips. Then for bowling they have promising youngsters like Lord Tewatia and Chetan Sakariya, along with Tabraiz Shamsi. Who knows? They can be the surprise package this season.
310  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 12, 2021, 06:23:44 PM
If Sri Lanka cannot win in their backyard there is no way they are going to win any match against top teams in the World Cup. I am yet to see their World Cup line up but right now the team looks really weak and i could not see any batsman in their ranks that could make an impact in a match.

Sri Lanka kept making spinning tracks and they are getting trapped and South Africa went on to win the match easily.

The fact that Sri Lanka is one of the two division one teams playing in the first (qualifier) stage of the world cup tells a lot about their recent form (the other test nation playing in the qualifier stage is Bangladesh). In fact I am not even sure whether they will be able to finish at the top of their group (other teams are Netherlands, Ireland and Namibia). The good thing for them is that this time two teams from each group will proceed to the main stage of the tournament. But even if they manage to get in to the main stage, their prospects look weak.
311  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or altcoins on: September 12, 2021, 02:21:17 PM
I didn’t have any BTC right now. The last time that I hold Bitcoin was on early December 2020 before that big pump commenced. I still regretted that day when I’ve sold my BTC for USDT. Now I am holding mostly ETH and some of the altcoins that I’m bullish until today. However, most of the coins and tokens that I have in my wallets are nothing but shitcoins lol.

I am quite surprised. There is no point in holding USDT for the long term, when it is less safer than US Dollar. And even more surprising is the fact that you sold your BTC on December 2020. The rally started in October 2020, and you sold your coins when the rally was still ongoing. There can't be a more idiotic decision than this one. It would have been still OK, if you had converted your BTC to some altcoin like ETH or ADA or BNB (even DOGE would have been fine). But USDT? I am really perplexed and can't find any logic in this.
312  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Uk most deprived areas have the Highest number of gambling outlets. on: September 12, 2021, 02:11:22 PM
According to an article I read a long time ago in 2019, I read out of 100% of people that are gambling, that 20% are likely to be addicted, which means 1:5 as against to 1:20.

Because the reach people have good source of earning, they do not rely on gambling at all not to talk of getting addicted if compared to average people.

I am not sure whether these figures are closer to reality, but even in this case I would say that it is wrong to punish the other 80% for what the 20% does. Anyway, it is not up to the government. If they ban the legal gambling joints, then the gamblers will just move underground and visit the illegal gambling dens. Is this what the authorities want? They will lose tax revenue, and there is a higher chance of gamblers getting defrauded. The solution is not to close down casinos. The solution is to monitor the gamblers, and to help those who need it.
313  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: September 12, 2021, 02:01:28 PM
This is not revenge, the players are tired of living in a bubble without seeing their wife and kids and there is a limit for everything and if the players are travelling for the IPL then they need to spend months to be back to normal and for those months they will be spending their time in a bubble and it will be taxing for themselves and i totally understand players making a choice of staying home and not go after the huge pack checks.

IPL + World Cup will be over in two months and after that they can remain with their family for as long as they want. These are challenging times and they need to get adjusted to the ground realities. Here these people are being presented with a choice. There are a lot of people who have lost their jobs. They never had such a choice available. Cricketers should behave like normal people and not like VIPs. Tournaments like IPL are needed for the TV channels and the national boards, in order to cover the losses they suffered during the last 18 months. The players also need to understand this, even if it means staying away from the family for a few months.
314  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 vaccination becoming a criteria to live in the world on: September 12, 2021, 01:51:28 PM
Covid-19 has become the new Fear mongering tool for governments to restrict citizens freedom and movement. If you do not get the Clotshot, you will not be allowed to do this or that .... or .... if you do not take the Devil's Juice, you will not be able to keep your job.

This is done, because of Money : The government want to eradicate Covid-19, because they are losing tax income from companies that are closing due to forced Lockdowns. The taxes are used to pay their Salary and they also need the taxes to allocate tenders to projects where they get kickbacks and bribes. (Some of these bribes are coming from Big Pharma too for all the "Free" vaccines that are bought with taxpayers money)  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Close to 10 million people have died from the pandemic (4.6 million as per official figures), and you are claiming that the government is just engaging in fear mongering? And as far as I know, it is not mandatory in any of the countries to get vaccinated. It is your choice, whether you want to get inoculated or not. But then, if you don't want to get vaccinated, you can't demand that you should be treated the same way as authorities treat vaccinated people. Because you are a danger to others around you.
315  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on: September 12, 2021, 01:41:56 PM
Mostly the odds would tell on the possibility of an upset, the higher the odds of the underdog, the lower the chance of an upset, and we've seen that many times in the sports of boxing. However, as I say mostly, we should not only rely on the odds as sometimes the favorites is overvalued due to hype.

Odds also depend on the way gamblers bet. If a lot of people make bet on a particular athlete, then the sportsbooks will be forced to adjust the odds, in order to minimize their losses if he wins. We saw this during Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman. When the match was announced, Thurman was the favorite, and Manny's odds were like +225. But then in the next few weeks, his fans made huge amount of bets in his favor and this forced the gambling sites to change their odds. If I am not wrong, a few days before the fight, the odds had improved to around -150 for Manny.
316  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: September 12, 2021, 01:31:16 PM
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a broad impact on the global health and economic crisis throughout 2020 and this year. The governments of countries in the world have taken various mitigation and cooperation measures to suppress the spread of COVID-19 while accelerating economic recovery. this year, global economic performance is expected to grow positively in line with the economic stimulus program and accelerated vaccination.

You are being overly confident about the economy. I am not expecting any major recovery, due to the spread of the delta variant. This time the issue is that developed nations such as the United States and Australia are being impacted badly. And the government has also run out of cash, after 18 continuous months of stimulus measures. The only sector whose outlooks remains positive is cryptocurrency. Others like aviation are in deathbed. If the situation continues for another 12 months, then we are going to witness complete economic meltdown.
317  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: September 12, 2021, 01:21:31 PM
See a lot of rumbling about Turkey, which is strange for me. I mean, nah, if one big loss causes the entire team to lose morale (and to Netherlands anyway who was the outright favourite) then the team's not very strong to begin with.

It wasn't long ago that they also caused their own share of upsets (France springs to mind). That didn't lead to Deschamps getting fired, did it? Not that he's still not had to deal with enduring questions of his ability!

It's not just one bad match. Don't you remember what happened in the Euro Cup? Turkey lost all of their matches and finished at the rock bottom of their group. Their bad form just got extended to World Cup Qualifiers. And this was the reason why Şenol Güneş was fired. Personally I felt that it was a bit harsh, as Güneş was the coach when they had the famous victory over Netherlands a few months back. Still, there is a chance of redemption, IMO. They still have a chance for qualifying for the world cup.

Is anyone watching the match of Bangladesh Under-19 Youth? Looking at their performance, it seems that they are very talented. They will lead the Bangladesh national team in the future if they are managed properly by the board.
Bangladesh U-19 team is playing against Afghanistan U-19 team. Bangladesh also won the previous match. In today's match, Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat. They lost all their wickets to collect only 101 runs. For Bangladesh, Naimur Rahman has taken 4 wickets with only 14 runs in 10 overs.

I am not surprised by the poor performance from Afghanistan, because a lot of turmoil is now ongoing in that country. The players are not being able to concentrate fully on the game I guess. But both the matches were quite close. And Bangladesh batting looks very brittle. In the first match, they managed a total of only 154 runs, while in the second they lost 7 wickets while chasing 102. Afghan spinners (Shahidullah Hasani, Izharulhaq Naveed) caused a lot of issues for the Bangladesh batsmen. Three more ODIs remain. Let's see how Bangladesh fares in them.

David Malan, Johny Bairstow and Chris Woakes have decided they won't be going for IPL 2021 2nd half to Dubai, they have cited reasons that they want to spend some time with family before world cup and Ashes but after all we all know that this is a consequence of India cancelling the 5th test against England, I thought ECB Would directly make a stern decision regarding this but they rather took the secret way by forcing their players to Don't go for IPL to avenge what Indian did. Now I personally think that IPL won't be much affected by this rather it would be English players who would lose a lot on money and I am not sure their board will reimburse them for this.

I am not sure how this is going to be some sort of revenge. The England players are going to be replaced by other overseas players, and the IPL will go ahead as planned. The players themselves are going to lose fat paychecks. And the ECB as well, since they are supposed to receive 10% royalty payment for each player from the IPL board. And in the long run also, the franchises may prefer players from other countries, if the ECB has a history of making their national players unavailable for such franchise leagues.

Ben Stokes took his name out from the T-20 WC, Ashes and IPL due to mental health concern.Archer is injured and not playing any tournament this year. Buttler also pulled out of the 2nd phase of IPL couple of months back when he and his wife were expecting their second kid. Jonny Bairstow and David Malan are eying spot in the Ashes / T-20 team so going through 3 bubbles back to back is tough task. Don't know about Woakes. So overall is completely understandable from players point of view.

Still feel bad about Stokes. He was at his peak, and then suddenly he has to deal with issues other than cricket. He's just 30 years old, so hopefully he can make a comeback in next year's IPL and get a few millions of USD in his pocket. Same for Archer as well. He got hit by injury when he was at peak form. In the end, anyway it is the player who needs to decide about it. In some instances they may think that cementing a spot in the national team is going to be more beneficial in the long run, when compared to playing in the IPL.
