241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 02, 2016, 05:04:44 PM
Was going to order one, but S9 is sold out  Angry

They are just teasing you and everyone else, creating a sense of scarcity, which, as we all know, does not really exist.
Will be back in a few. Maybe B2 with 187 or 191 chips instead of 189,  Grin

First batches are small to allow them to fix any unseen issues and still ship out on time. You'd be more annoyed if they committed to 50,000 units day 1 then had to delay delivery, right?
242  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 01, 2016, 04:10:36 PM
The s9 seems over priced. To put this into perspective, let us compare S7 with S9. let say the aim is 14TH
1 S9 = $2100
1 Power Supply (from Bitmain) = $140
Shipping to the US (Fedex) = $75
Total = $2315

To get the same hash rate with S7, we need 3 S7s, 4.73 x 3 = 14.2TH
3 S7s = $1320 ($420 each)
3 power supplies = $420 ($140 each)
Shipping to the US = $140
Total = $1880

The difference is $435. If you think the space and efficiency worth the difference, go ahead and buy it. If not, (let say, you have a very cheap electricity, and plenty of space), S7 is a better option. If you ask me, I would say don't buy any of them. just wait until halving, the price will be more reasonable, and you can evaluate your investment better!

In 3 months you'll have paid ~6000x your $/kWh in additional power, so break even at $0.07/kWh ignoring the fact you're not stuck with 3x S7s rather than an S9.
243  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury: "16nm... sales to public start shortly" on: June 01, 2016, 01:29:07 AM
at some point it has to stop ? what I mean is when it goes to zero nm will it  start like - 90 nm , often wondered what happens at zero. even before i got into bitcoins with just PC's.

if it were 0 nm  it would not exist.

I guess it would technically be possible to have a "0nm" chip based on some futurisitic quantum design that takes on an entirely different form than anything currently.
244  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner declares bankruptcy due to increased competition, upcoming halving on: June 01, 2016, 01:24:38 AM

And I think if they had competently built the what, $30M-odd datacenter full of 16nm chips they supposed had a year ago they probably wouldn't have gone broke. But it looks like they screwed that up too.

It kinda looks that way, doesn't it.
To have had enough 16nm chips to fill a data center a year ago would have meant getting chips  in quantity say around Jan 2015. That is impossible. At that point in time all research and production at ALL the Fabs just starting to be capable of producing 16/14nm chips (not counting IBM & Intel who only make chips for internal use) was exclusively for AMD, Apple, Cisco, and Samsung (and Samsung was 14nm, internal use only back then).

Unless KnC was willing to maybe pony up several 100 million dollars to join the que for low-node chips back then all they would have gotten is nice smiling nods in discussions with the Foundries and that's it.
According to their news archives, they taped out 16nm in Feb 2015 and "deployed" in June 2015.

That said, their investors said they encountered "large technical issues" and "they failed to get the right processors", so you assume they f-ed up 16nm, a big part of the reason they went bust.

They certainly didn't have 100 million dollars, they were VC funded to the tune of 20-30 million.

So what do you think of that story? Do you think they bluffed all their investors about 16nm?

My interpretation of it (and their low hash rate) was that 16nm either failed or required 2 goes at it to get a sensible chip.

Its worth pointing out that this isnt a BFL / Spondoolies style bankruptcy, they're essentially just calling it day and will (as far as we know) pay all their commitments and distribute the rest to shareholders. Its also worth pointing out the large amounts of money that flowed out the company which is still counted as success, ie the core and extended team's handsome payments for several years as well as any other side companies they have. They were trying to be competitive though, they let go ~20% of their employees back in January.
245  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 31, 2016, 03:28:52 PM
So how will this affect the second hand market for the Antminer S7? Avalon 6 ?

As always, those miners will head to homes where electricity prices are lower, giving those buyers the best return for their $ invested.
246  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner on: May 31, 2016, 03:27:54 PM
Why there are two identical threads re S9?

Yeah, no point. Mod's should close one asap...

Looks like one was moved in from another subform.
247  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 31, 2016, 11:42:18 AM
Is there anything even remotely close to this performance? 3x the hash rate for the same power consumption in the same form factor as the S7...
248  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S7 Setup [HD] on: May 30, 2016, 01:30:16 PM
it's still under warranty, so I wonder if it's worth the hassle or dismantling it and returning the board to Bitmain ....

It is absolutely not worth the hassle, 100%.
249  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs [UNMOD] on: May 30, 2016, 01:18:49 PM
I can only confirm. I will not respond to blackmail.

Blackmail? You refused to be a normal member of society and instead preferred this unstable rampage of trolling. If you have nothing to contribute to this thread, please leave.
250  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner declares bankruptcy due to increased competition, upcoming halving on: May 30, 2016, 01:14:04 PM
You truly are a fucking retarded troll, aren't you.

The PCIE spec calls for 300W max. The fact they were pushing 400W down the line was a major design oversight on the part of KNC, and it was no wonder to read anecdotes of the miners catching fire or melting.

"That picture" only shows how desperate you are to find something that can back up the otherwise unsupportable assertion of incompetence.
KNC didn't make that power cable.  Those cables are made by the PSU maker (or more likely, a subcontractor), and once in a while you'll get a poorly made one not fit for continuous load (whether under or over spec).  And if you put it in crooked or don't push it in all the way, you're going to have a bad time.
I've seen, on rare occasion, those PCIE connects burn out even with Seasonic PSUs, which are server grade and run well over spec just fine.
Before that, I also spent years running overclocked GPUs with those same cables.  Going over spec isn't a big deal, no matter how much Concern you try to generate.
You're really reaching to use one fried cable as some sort of trump card.  Better warm up first, or you might pull a muscle!   Wink

Doesn't the PCI-E 'spec' call for a 75W "max" on 6 pin?

Interesting press release out of BTCS:

Quote
ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - May 25, 2016) - BTCS Inc. (OTCQB: BTCS) ("BTCS" or the "Company"), a blockchain technology focused company which secures the blockchain through its transaction verification services business, increased its Ethereum-mining hosting business to approximately 150 kilowatts ("kw"), up from approximately 50kw announced in March 2016.

"We have gained valuable expertise since launching our Ethereum pilot program in March," stated Charles Allen, CEO of BTCS. "Ethereum has rocketed to nearly 20% of the market cap of Bitcoin in less than two years, led by rapid adoption and growing support from major players in tech and finance including Gemini and Coinbase (which just rebranded to GDAX). We believe our experience, in connection with additional capital, should allow us to further expand our Ethereum mining and hosting businesses, to diversify our exposure to bitcoin, and to use more of our available power capacity."

Ethereum is a digital currency and blockchain platform focused on smart contract applications. Like bitcoin-based blockchain technologies, the decentralized network of Ethereum enables transactions without downtime, censorship, fraud, or third-party interference. Year to date, the value of Ether, the digital token or fuel that powers the Ethereum network, in USD terms, has grown over 1,300% the total value of all Ether, or market cap of Ether, surpassing $1 billion.

"With the year-to-date increase in the difficulty of mining Bitcoins, and the more attractive economics currently displayed by Ether, we've taken the opportunity to sell some of our early-generation ASIC ("application specific integrated circuit") servers," continued Allen. "We've also entered preliminary discussions with a designer of specialized Ether mining servers, and we're exploring the possibility of being the exclusive hardware assembler for that designer. Unlike ASIC servers, Ether mining servers utilize off the shelf computer hardware, custom software and can be made-to-order with limited capital investment. We have the space to operate the assembly business at our NC facility, and we are in talks to become the exclusive distributor. While we can provide no assurances that any partnership or relationship will materialize, we are currently hosting their first generation prototype servers. We plan to provide updates on this initiative as it develops."

Allen concluded, "In regards to Spondoolies-Tech Ltd., we are actively exploring potential claims we may have from prior investments and we will pursue all options ahead of the July hearing."

He is not a shareholder or investor.

Not sure what has triggered your breakdown, but if you knew anything about bankruptcy law you'd know that shareholders are at the end of the queue and almost always get screwed when a company goes under.
253  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs [UNMOD] on: May 28, 2016, 10:46:20 PM
This is just another dogie  spam, bullying, conspiracy posts and insults another  forum members  thread.
He opened it after that, if it became clear that after Spondoolies   bankruptcy he can not return anything which has already been paid.

Can anyone to explain why this topic is still in Hardware thread?

+1. This belongs in the feedback/trust/scam subforum(s) since its nothing to do with hardware at all at this point, particularly with the rediculous 3-way trolling

Then neither does the other Spondoolies-Tech thread. This is the sister, non moderated version and they are tied together.

no the spondoolies thread actually spans hundred of pages and thousands of posts about their hardware.

this thread is a 4-page shitstorm of accusations and trolling that you simply titled to lok like it is a sister thread. move it to scam accusations

Having an unmoderated thread when the original self-moderated thread has seen controversial moderation (such as moderating my on topic posts critical of the viability of their business strategy "by mistake") is very useful.

As far as whether the thread should exist at all now that the company is in liquidation, there is probably some precedent for that? What happened to threads about other miner manufacturers after they failed?

The BFL ones were moved out due to extreme spam posting by a handful of dedicated members. Some of the others that turned into soft scams went multiple places although others have stayed and were left to die.
254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 28, 2016, 12:03:12 PM
A company cannot just declare someone is a business. KNC should have verified that the buyer is a business before they confirmed the order. If not = no order.
Easy as that, everbody does it this way. Totally non-understandable court decision in my eyes.

It absolutely can and it was probably in the T&Cs. As doing it reduces liability, removes the protection of the DSRs and generally reduces consumer protection its highly likely that they would have worked this out.
255  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: May 28, 2016, 01:38:13 AM
Well,2 down,3 to go  Cheesy  Good riddance to KnC .!.. Sam Cole!!!  Cool

dont write them off.  doubt they're gone.  more likely, just restructuring, cutting cost, regrouping... and under administration they can do major things like getting rid of investors/contracts they don't like, etc.  they will be back in a leaner and more competitive form.  too much invested to write it off, imho

It looked like they were voluntarily winding up, not restructuring. Its a way of closing the doors while everyone can still get paid and walk away happy.
256  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: May 27, 2016, 10:09:25 AM
Sounds like the only benefit a home user can get from GPU mining, as noted a few posts up, is availability of hardware, since GPUs are a general commodity more-or-less equally available to anyone. In any other aspect of mining economy we have the same scenario as with ASICs - bulk pricing of machinery and energy will still win out.

Even that argument fails the second that Bitmain manufacturs a cheap interface/motherboard with controller, which combined with their ability to manufacture their own PSUs and buy GPUs in the 10,000s, would give them a significant price advantage on the assets. You can't win this.
257  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: May 26, 2016, 11:11:41 AM
Your delusional if you think GPU and ASIC mining is comparable.  ANYONE can buy a gpu and fire up a rig.  yeah maybe the big boys could get thier GPUs from the source maybe 50% cheaper than the regular joe but at least everyone has a shot.

That's not true. In a GPU only world those with facilities near to negligible cost power can still push the difficulty so high that 'normal' people are to mine at a loss even using the same hardware. The GPU generation was also rather maintenance heavy and so centralisation again helps with that.
258  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center [Assets for sale!!] [UNMOD] on: May 24, 2016, 09:50:39 PM
This IS a hardware thread and it IS about a hardware manufacturer

The hardware manufacturer that you are talking about doesn't exists anymore since it's in liquidation. Do you have a real valid reason for this thread to be here?

It does until some point in July / August and is just as active with consumers as the KNC thread is. This thread is linked to the main thread as its unmoderated counterpart, so wherever that thread is this one remains.
259  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC wins Class Action against Miners. Court rules all a Business. Thus Lost. on: May 24, 2016, 07:37:50 PM
can they appeal in Sweden or is it worth it.!!!!!
The papers say yes but that the risk is too high of just incurring more costs and getting no where. They're considering appealing the awarding of costs though.
260  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center [Assets for sale!!] [UNMOD] on: May 24, 2016, 01:40:35 PM

You see we're all just trying to make sense of your illogical actions, and it just happens to be the most likely scenario out of:
1. You take payment directly or indirectly, to troll people
2. You troll people in order to extort payments from people
3. You control more than one account
4. You're just naturally this crazy.
....

I am just naturally this crazy fighting against you spammer dogie, you are abuser the trust rating system, not me.
You were the one who SPAM my Thrust Rate with red spamm and two times. I've never responded to this with red comment.

It's just a low intelligence, what do you show there.
You lose this battle with me, and you know it yourself sending me PS on: January 23, 2016, 10:29:44 PM .

So the reason you're arguing here is because I'm the one posting, and you don't particularly care about what it is you're arguing about. You know what that is? Trolling. There is no "battle" with you and seriously no one cares about any sort of vendetta you have. Find another hobby, dude.
