1241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer C1 Setup [HD] on: August 12, 2015, 11:42:14 AM
Dogie a great resource - thanx
If I can be quick.. Bought 2 x C1. Saw operating happy with seller set at 192.168.1.71 and 72.
Brought home, plugged 1st in to home router and found it straight away at 10.1.1.3 (I have no idea...)
Set it up and it been happily mining for 24 hrs - took to work and it continued no prob.
However - unable to find it on the network at all...

The 2nd 1...
Can not find it. Followed your instructions with connecting direct and changing IP - nothing.
Tried at work where the standard network is 192.168.1 anyway - nothing.
IP scanner looking for it - doesnt exist

So I try to reset it - hold the button - nothing. Can hold it in for a minute no lights no change.
On startup the miner fan goes to 100% and stays there. PSU fan not running... (cooler master V1000). Have swapped PSUs around no change.
It would "appear" the miner is stuck in startup mode.
Suggestions on how to unfreeze/reset it so I can get in?

Many thanks

Download SD card imager and use it to flash the backup SD image in case of corruption. | That image is set to DHCP so visit your router to find the IP assigned. You can either do the same for the 1st miner or wait until you can access it and set it to DHCP.

If you can't or won't give customers what we want, somebody else eventually will.

I suspect this exactly what the Big customers have asked for. A very large Hash in a very small space. Yes the efficiency could be improved but at the expense of the Hash, and if you have very low priced electricity why would you want that...

What people are also forgetting is this is exactly what the big Chinese customers have asked for. The S5+ was not even intended for international markets.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

The S5 miner is starting as normal, all Asics are being detected and it has connection to the pool (also tried other pools).
It is powered by an Corsair CX750 PSU (as it has been earlier), but it does not really start hashing.

Quite a few hardware errors there. Got a different PSU you can test with quickly?

Wow, very efficient miner indeed Smiley

Can you prove your website is legitimate, your account is new.

Read the thread in its entirity ... the man has been made to jump through a thousand hoops already!

But 28 6pin PCI-E connectors for a single rig is mind boggling to say the least. Is the 6 pin PCI-E connector the highest rated power plug that exists?
8 pin is rated at 150W officially, but for our use won't double whatever number each of us is comfortable with on 6 pin as it only adds 2 more ground wires.

not to mention no home outlet will support 3400 watts.. so it would have to be specially wired in its own sub panel. and this thing looks like a fire hazard..
No? You can power it from up to 9 PSUs if you want and split what circuits the PSUs are on as you like.

so i just run extension cords to different outlets? lol

If they were on different circuits, pretty much. I've got 2x 32A and 2x 20A circuits (all 240v) extension-ed into one room so I can test some pretty large things if required.

Hi all,
here some pictures of antminer S5+ , reviews will be coming soon from ITOP Corp

Needs more pci-e connectors...So you tape 3 S5s together and call it a new machine?  Color me unimpressed.  Sidehack got much better efficiency out of these chips; Bitmain isn't even trying.

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, the small amount of power savings from running the chip slower doesn't cover the overhead loss by running a 1 chip board.

Sidehack's is ~16.5GH for 1 chip for 1.3A = ~6.5W.
S5+ is 7700GH for 432 chips for 3436W. Removing controller and fans = ~3310W. Removing "at the wall" = 2970W.

sidehack = 16.5GH/chip, 0.39W/GH
S5+        = 17.8GH/chip, 0.39W/GH

Hi guys,

been reading through this thread and some very helpful information, the guide by dogie is great. i'm only just starting to mine so my knowledge on this is minimal.
I purchased an S3 to see how things work and in need of some help so any advice will be great from anyone..

i've connected the S3 to my router, reset it to default settings and can see it within my connected devices but when i go to 192.168.1.99 i get message "This webpage is not available" any suggestions?

Regards.

Can you post a screenshot of your router's DHCP table (which I assume is what you're looking at?)

I think they should make another batch or two of s5's.

There's probably enough of them still in existence to outstrip the demand as they start coming off the shelves. Not neccesarily just form Bitmain, but all those gen 1 S5s that will start looking for 2nd homes eventually.

yes,. they did the right thing. Maybe just im unlucly to get those unit. Photo as below

If you have trouble resolving this then let me know order details.

Did you start working for bitmain again??

No, but doesn't stop me chasing up a resolution.

The price is uneconomical at $3061 (plus $90 shipment, I assume) for 7.7 TH at 3400w- checked at minimal increase of 1.57% and 10c-it gives more than 360 days.
Re center: perhaps having sides helps with cooling and center unit alone would be overheating at full speed.
Apart from saving on a controller, what is the the advantage of having 3 combined units?
Its the hashrate of nearly 7 S5s in the same package as 3 S5s, with better directed cooling. Its beneficial for people wanting to run high density setups with some form of heat exhaust.
1253  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New antminer S-5+ selling options on: August 10, 2015, 05:54:32 AM
If they did break it up in the way you proposed, I would imagine that the middle (controller) cube's efficiency numbers are going to be much more like they are with the S5.  Right now the overhead of the BB and the FPGA are spread across  all 3 cubes - but now it would be just the one.  At which point, you might as well just pick up some S5's.

I think it's best either beast-mode S5+ or just plain old S5's...

What do you expect the controller's consumption to be, like 10W (ex fans)?

Dear customers,

The S5+ is now opening for sale in Mainland China market(as some one has already found on the bitmain.cn), and it will be available for sale on global market next Friday. Then you can purchase the S5+ on our official website of bitmaintech.com.

We recommend Bitmain customers to purchase our products on our official website, unless you have your own particular reasons to buy from other channel, for example, you known about the seller quite well, or you trust the seller, or the seller can provide very good support to you.

You probably were running those S3's in a cool environment .... I've had a few scrapes with singly powered S3 boards during the winter. The cables may be in spec when running at those speeds, but bitmain's testing is also based on average ambients, so low(er) ambients will result in better efficiency and higher power draws ....

Bitmain's testing is based off Eastern farm temps of 35-40C without evaporative. That's about the limit for an S4+ without risking them flicking off but the other previous miners can go higher without issue. That's not to say anything about the S5+'s performance or capability, I have not tested it.

More waffle than fact ... as far as I know, 25C is the stated rating ambient (for power draw cum et al?), with a recomended 35C operating ambient. To me that says tested at 25C.
You were trying to detail Bitmain's testing protocols, without actually knowing Bitmain's testing procotols...

The PCI-e cables themselves have a specification that they are expected to work within.
Some manufacturers may build cables closer to those limits than other manufacturers, but they are still within the specifications.
If you're defaulting to the "you only run 75W because the specification says so", then good for you. The rest of us will continue doing what we've been doing for years.
I feel like you're arbitrarily deciding what will work or not. I've actively tried these things and I've actively measured cable temps so it doesn't really make sense for you to say its all about to explode.
Your the one who is "arbitrarily deciding"
*You're. I am not arbitrarily deciding, I'm using past evidence and testing.

You have someone somewhere telling you what to say is OK. Keep being a good little doggie and doing as you are told. Ignore specifications, they're only for he faint of heart who think failures and fires matter
I haven't worked with Bitmain in months, who is "telling me what to say" now, what will you default to next? Maybe its your hated towards Bitmain telling you what to say, I didn't see you hating on the SP20s 300W stock PCI-E connections. But now of course you're outraged that Bitmain has the option to run 190W connectors to use less PCI-E connectors, or 125W connectors using more.

I also enjoy how you're somehow blaming the entire industry using and being okay with 300W PCI-E connections on me as if its something I decided. People have been using 300W PCI-E connections for years and will continue to do so regardless of if you throw a tantrum about a PSU you had dying while running 80W connections.
1258  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: August 09, 2015, 05:26:39 PM
They didn't insist on anything, it was arbitrarily inherited from the rev 3+ S3 board which had 2 PCI-E connectors per 160W board. And its not a rare thing, look back in this thread, plenty of people (including me) running S5s on single PCI-Es.
You say that like the board design was unchanged between the two.
S5 is a stringed power design, S3 had voltage conversion, which implies AT LEAST a major redesign if not a "from scratch" design of the S5 hash boards specifically including the power circuitry. There was no "inherit" based on looking at the COMPLETE REDESIGN of the power setup for the S5.
The power into the board didn't change, it still accepts in 12V. String design was achieved by removing the DC-DC and chaining the chips together - that has nothing to do with the PCI-E connections. The S3 to the S5 board retained the same dimensions (-~1cm off the top), the same mounting holes and the same 2 PCI-E connectors. It is NOT a declaration that you must use 2 PCI-E connections.

bitmain should have been running 8 pin pci-e plugs since the s3.. this is from a seasonic 850 watt psu, running 2 s3s.. running at 225 speed. this psu came with 4 PCI-E cables with 2 plugs each.. so all 4 of the pci-e plugs on the s3s were plugged in. as you can see, it melted.. the s5 uses more power from the pci-e then the s3 does.. any plug in style the same as this will eventually melt..
So you were running 620W over 8 PCI-E connectors (77.5W) and it melted. Maybe you should both consider that maybe its your Seasonic PSUs that could have a problem, not the rest of the world or the other 10,000s of S3s.

* I will only give one trust rating and try to put all ratings in one rating.

I wouldn't bother with that, more than one rating doesn't affect anything.
