2401  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-05-29] Bitcoin Fans Say Cryptocurrency Tokens Are the Future of Tech... on: June 02, 2017, 02:34:57 AM
...Some observers say bitcoin and other similar ventures are similar to Linux, an open-source alternative to Microsoft's Windows operating system that has never really achieved mainstream success...

Almost funny:
A huge % of all websites are hosted on Linux, so I suppose "mainstream success" has a different meaning to the author.
True while Linux may not have won the desktop battle and windows emerged victorious, most servers use some flavor of Linux, can you imagine if people tried to run those servers on windows? Also android is very popular in mobile phones, and android is based on Linux too, to me it seems that even if it has taken a lot of time, Linux will win in the end.
2402  Economy / Speculation / Re: IF eth takes over from BTC will BTC then face a relative colapse? on: June 01, 2017, 02:29:50 AM
Discuss

No. They are in 2 different spaces as are Monero, RSK etc although RSK and Etherum may compete.

Bitcoin is by no means perfect but it is bitcoin. Etherum is a fuel if you like to do other things and is not really competing.
Interestingly in the latest crash both the  bitcoin and etherum price got hit roughly to the same extent percentage wise if they were competing in theory one would take a much bigger hit than the other? Dunno though as the price of bitcoin seems to have its own funny quirks?.

I think most people holding etherum are also holding bitcoin but not as a protection from one rising and the other falling but rather as the want to share in the possibilities of both.
I don’t think bitcoin and ETH are direct competitors but if they were I suppose that things will move asymmetrically, if bitcoin went up then that will mean ETH will go down and if ETH went up then bitcoin will go down since that was not the case in the past correction I think they are not competitors and while in the past a movement like the one i have described has passed I think we cannot draw a connection like that since most altcoins, and not only ETH, lose ground when bitcoin goes up in the price.
2403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you short cryptocurrencies? on: June 01, 2017, 02:25:08 AM
I have no idea how to do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

short? what do you mean by short? Can you rephrase that? If you meant sort, I think coinmarketcap is a good place to look .
Shorting a coin is basically betting against the coin, when you buy bitcoin then you are expecting for the price to go up and that is the way you make profit, but when you short a coin you are expecting for the price to go down instead of up that way you can make money when the price goes to the opposite direction and for those with great skill is a way to make some good money.
2404  Economy / Economics / Re: Where did you first heard about Bitcoins? on: June 01, 2017, 02:20:04 AM
I heard about bitcoins for the first time when a friend of mine began to talk about it a year ago, it surprised me that I never heard about it since I always try to stay informed about new developments in technology but after reading about it for a short time I knew I needed to get in immediately, it is funny because my friend did not follow me and now he is regretting not getting into bitcoin back in the day.
2405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Reason Bitcoin will always be #1 on: June 01, 2017, 02:12:53 AM
There are only a few possible reasons why Bitcoin will be #1

1. It is the defacto and the founder which gives it intrinsic value.
2. It is the most popular and will just continue to be that way.

It is insane to see why a coin that is flawed as much as Bitcoin be as popular because its a founding coin.
I don’t see why you think it is insane for this to happen, even if we admit there are some problems with bitcoin, just look at the music industry, have you heard the garbage they are producing, the music is very bad or look at Hollywood and the horrible movies and yet, they are making a lot of money and its popular, so what you are describing happens everywhere not only in bitcoin.
2406  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-05-31] INDIA COULD ‘LEGALIZE’ BITCOIN NEXT AS PUBLIC CALLS FOR REGULATION on: June 01, 2017, 02:08:26 AM
While the authorities do usually ask for the public's opinions on contentious issues, the end decision is made by so-called experts. There are a lot of politicians who are lobbying against Bitcoin currently. They could easily influence the decision makers.
The decision is never made by experts, the decisions are taken by politicians because that is their job they cannot delegate to anyone, that is why they got elected, at best they will consult experts about the topic and then form their own opinion and based on it take a decision, but we know that it does not work like that since politicians are only looking at ways to benefit themselves.
2407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN IS TRAVELING PLACES!!! on: June 01, 2017, 02:00:28 AM
LEGALIZATION OF BITCOIN EVERYWHERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE

SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!
BITCOIN WILL SOON OVERTAKE BANKS AND OTHER NOTABLE CURRENCIES IN THE WORLD.
I HAVE SAVED UP TO ALMOST A 0.4 BTC AND STILL YEARNING FOR MORE THAN EVEN 1BTC.
BUT DOES ANYONE COME TO REALISE IF BITCOINS WILL BE CLOSED SO I DON'T INVEST ALL MY MONEY INTO BITCOINS?
First of all, some may think that the use of all caps to be annoying, so if you can, use them only when you want to give emphasis to something, now on topic, bitcoin has the potential to do so, but even if bitcoin is able to do that we should not expect that to happen any time soon, we mus be realistic about what bitcoin an do in the short term, the first thing we need is for segwit to get approved or some other method to speed the transactions.
2408  Economy / Economics / Re: High volatility and sudden crashes will kill bitcoin, unless... on: May 31, 2017, 03:19:18 AM
You don’t seem to take into account that crypto is a completely new market that did not existed 10 years ago and when a new market emerges then there is great instability, so I think it is a bad idea to try to stabilize something that by its simple nature is going to be unstable let bitcoin find its level as anything else, with the market and old supply and demand.
2409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is BTC for you? on: May 31, 2017, 03:14:56 AM
What is bitcoin for you? Is it a chance or a scheme to get rich? Or is it actually to keep your wealth to yourself.
What lead you into bitcoin world and what's keeping you here?
Bitcoin is the future, that is why I got into bitcoin in the first place, I do not know if bitcoin is going to last a long time, but I know that in the future bitcoin is going to be in the history books the same way we see the first coins created so many thousands of years ago, or other stuff that was used as currency back in the day, and I know that the currencies of the future are going to be based on bitcoin.
2410  Economy / Speculation / Re: Took just 3 months to double in price. Bubble!!!!! on: May 31, 2017, 03:09:44 AM
The price was average around $1,000 around February. The momentum seems to be only picking up. The bubble has a long way to go. Who thinks we will see $3k? $5k??
It is not necessary a bubble, what I mean is, yes the price went up very fast but if it was a bubble the price should have gotten a lot lower and it did not, this tells me this was real growth but it needed a correction, the correction happen already and we are still above the 2000 mark and I think we are going to be there for some time until a new rally happens once again and we finally break the 3000 barrier that we were so close to break.
2411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC or XRP? on: May 31, 2017, 03:02:17 AM
Which coin has more potential, what do you think?
More potential for what? Economic growth? Or Usability? Or something else, as many people in the forum I will not invest my money in ripple I don’t like the fact that is a centralized system, litecoin in the other hand was more a copy of bitcoin, but with the addition of segwit then the network is going to be even faster than before and that could really be a great way to improve the usage of litecoin as people try to get around the slowness of bitcoin.
2412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is declining as top crypto currency. Why? on: May 31, 2017, 02:57:32 AM
And why do you think bitcoin is being surpassed be Eth, could you please elaborate in more detail? In twenty four hours ethereum trading volumes passed bitcoin trading according to data from CoinMarketCap on tuesday. But I don't think that is sufficient "proof" that bitcoin is less popular all of a sudden. If Eth sustains higher trading volumes over a longer period, then maybe we can say Eth is provably more popular than bitcoin.  It is nowhere near it for now.

Because the BTC/ETH market cap ratio continues to shrink by the day.
I don’t think we need to worry that much, what I mean is that is natural that bitcoin will lose some ground, when cryptocurrencies first started bitcoin did not have too much competition, most of the competition were nothing but copies of bitcoin but as time has passed bitcoin has begun to face real contenders, coins with true innovative technology.
2413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 7 years ago... you could have earned almost $15,000 at today's value in 3 sec... on: May 30, 2017, 04:39:14 AM
Funny how life is Smiley 5 BTC for free in 3 sec... today people are working hard to earn 0.01 BTC

https://web.archive.org/web/20100703032414/http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/
While it is nice to see how much bitcoin you could have earned back then, there is a big difference between getting that bitcoin back then and still having that bitcoin right now, just look at the classic example of the guy that bought that pizza for bitcoin and even if you did not do that, would you still have your coins after the first pump, or would you have sold your coins at the first opportunity.
2414  Economy / Economics / Re: The Real Reason to Hold Gold And Bitcoin on: May 30, 2017, 04:27:59 AM
The real reason is that they have limited supply, and people want them. (people may not want bitcoin in the future btw) People always want gold and they want to gather as much as possible in their lifetime. It is the only solid asset which holds its true value through the centuries.
But you are omitting the reason why they want them, gold was and is wanted because gold was the perfect form of money, gold does not corrode, it is durable, and when it is put in the form of coins, then gold is fungible and it is a medium of exchange, bitcoin is wanted because bitcoin is even better than gold at fulfilling the role of money and as long as that is true bitcoin is going to be wanted.
2415  Economy / Speculation / Re: We're reaching $3,000 soon! on: May 30, 2017, 04:24:27 AM
Is $50,000 reachable? Harder but not impossible!  (>10 years)
I would like to sleep today and wake up after 10 years and hope to see this price  Grin
Some well known gigs have also predicted even $1 million is possible per bitcoin within next 10-20 years.
I’m the opposite, why I would want to sleep while bitcoin grows and finally reaches the moon? I want to see every single second of it, I want to see every single additional cent in the price of bitcoin, also I want to tell to all of those people that did not believe in bitcoin ‘I told you so’ oh, victory is going to be so sweet when bitcoin reaches any value above ten thousand, and people finally realize how mistaken they were about it.
2416  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Next big thing? on: May 30, 2017, 04:18:32 AM
What do we really need from an altcoins, what is the next big thing?

We have anoncoin, platforms for trading and smart contracts, tokens..

Where are we heading?

Bitcoin was something completely new, can we expect another one?

Personally I think the next big thing is not going to be a coin but a service, there are already decentralized exchanges, but there are some problems with them, we need those problems resolved so we are not dependent on centralized exchanges anymore, exchanges have centralized bitcoin we need to do something about it and decentralized exchanges are the answer.
2417  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling ideas on: May 30, 2017, 04:14:03 AM
Hi all . I have couple of ideas that I think is good .I not have the money or the skills (programing etc ...) to develop them  .So is there  any trusted place/one that i can offer them my idea and if they like they buy it or put it in work and give me % something like that.

Thanks in advance.
To be honest I don’t think you will find what you are looking unless your idea is truly revolutionary but even if it is, it will be hard since someone could have the same idea or they could steal your idea,  most of the time when someone has an idea they try to work on it themselves, so you not much of an option, you will need to raise your money to jump start your idea or you will need to learn the skills yourself.

2419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: $20 transaction with $3 in fees, still not confirmed! on: May 27, 2017, 11:38:34 PM
https://blockchain.info/tx/bc19104e615ba441c0aeed6a144239ffcb075d6e409305ca5a7a4df1142c3cb7

What kind of bullshit is this? a $3 fee on a $20 transaction and still not confirmed, I use to like bitcoin but I am hating it now more and more each day
Tell me how bitcoin isn't fucking up? only good thing about is the price of it
The fee does not depend on the amount of money you are sending, you could have sent a million dollars worth of bitcoin and you would still have got the very same fee and the very same delay, the fee will depend on the size of the transaction, this is one of the most basic differences between bitcoin and other payment systems out there.
2420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to BTC/Alts when stock market crashes? on: May 27, 2017, 11:30:36 PM
What is your opinion on the BTC/Alt market in an event of a stock market crash?

1. BTC/Alts rise because these are seen as alternative investment.

2. BTC/Alts fall because these are seen as an even more speculative asset than stocks.

3. Nothing happens
It will depend on how the investors and the general public see bitcoin at the time, when a crisis like that happens, people tend to favor hard assets, property, houses, gold, silver, jewelry than soft assets like stocks, paper money, so if people see bitcoin as a hard asset bitcoin is going to reevaluate every hour of the day if not then bitcoin is going to lose a lot of value.
