I think Trump is too smart to be a Christian.  But you never know what is in person's mind.

My guess is he just plays along to get the Christian votes.

Trump does a LOT of that... he tells people what they want to hear, not what he believes

Though, Obama did the same thing... he claimed to be a Christian when he's clearly not...

Quote from: Barack Hussein Obama
For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness.

This isn't to say that she provided me with no religious instruction. In her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology. On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. But I was made to understand that such religious samplings required no sustained commitment on my part. Religion was an expression of human culture, she would explain, not its wellspring, just one of the many ways — and not necessarily the best way — that man attempted to control the unknowable and understand the deeper truths about our lives.

In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist she would become; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well.
2442  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Proof that God exists on: February 18, 2016, 10:03:03 PM
Religion can be a touchy subject. We don't know if a god exists or not, so in my belief it's best to stay in between which would be agnostic.

The point is it should not be.  There is nothing, absolutely nothing sacred about these irrational beliefs.

If someone can demonstrate that God physically (not just in their mind) exist, we can all move on and accept it.

If he existed we would not need faith.

Especially about the religious beliefs of the atheism religion.    Cool

Making new definitions as we go along....

BTW, I'm a humanist and anti-theist.  I'm pretty sure I'm not religious.

He's funny... thinks he can troll Atheists with, "you're a religion too"... rofl...

When the only person you fool is yourself, who is the fool?

Who cares?

I certainly wouldn't vote for someone based on their religion/mental illness

I might vote against a person who says stupid shit based on religious beliefs... like Ben Carson...

God says gays are an abomination and you are commanded to murder them!

If you disobey God... are you truly a Christian?

But, if you follow God's command... you will surely be sent to prison, because God was wrong about homosexuality, and constantly contradicts himself over whether murder is right or wrong...

Fortunately, in the US at least, we have a system of laws which have nothing to do with religion... and if you kill a homosexual, you will not pass go and collect $200, but instead go directly to jail

Show this command for any Christian to do any murder. Rather, it is you who would lie to make atheism look good, and Christians look bad.

God's moral laws are against murder. Since atheists don't have any moral laws, they can legitimately do murder and lie about Christians... by their own legitimacy, of course.

Haven't you read the bible?

Quote from: Leviticus 20:13
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

I haven't ever found the word "Christian" in that passage.    Cool    Why are you lying?

What are you smoking?

Does the bible use the word Christian even a single time?  Anywhere?

Why must you constantly prove your ignorance of anything that is actually in the bible?

The word, Christian, was not even invented until long after the bible was written

Atheists have almost never been pushed around by Christians. Rather, they have been invited, possibly scolded in a loving way, requested, enticed, and loved towards accepting and receiving eternal life for themselves.

Let's not mince words...

Christians try to push around everyone... the gays for example...

Christians try to force their religious beliefs on homosexuals... Christians tell them they will go to hell... tell them they can't get married... that's bullshit... who issues the marriage license?  The STATE not the church!  There are over 700 benefits that you are automatically granted by being married, such as shared property rights, and power of attorney when your spouse falls ill...

Christians think that if they are not allowed to hate homosexuals, that THEY are the ones being repressed... fuck that backwards ass logic... hypocritical idiots

Why most of atheists here on this forum feel so threatened that they have to attack against religious world view all the time?
Are they so insecure about their own world view? Why they are so scared?  Smiley

Its the labeling by Christians that causes people to get their backs up. If I do not believe I get labeled and that is the issue mostly. Besides most of the political threads turning into religious threads by page 10.

As of now, i am not fond of any of the candidates. However, i am most impressed with Donald Trump because of how he handled the criticism in the begining of his campaign. He is now an influental figure in the run for presidency, and is no longer a joke

Trump is as much of a joke as Arnold Schwarzenegger running for governor... he didn't know anything about politics, and passed some really stupid/uninformed laws because he had no clue what he was doing...

Do you know any of Trump's policies?

He doesn't normally talk about them... because he doesn't have any... he's running on the platform of hatemonger...

If you believe in unicorns...

Quote from: Numbers 23:22
God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn
Quote from: Psalm 22:21
Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns
Quote from: Isaiah 34:7
And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness

and dragons...

Quote from: Isaiah 27:1
In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea
Quote from: Revelation 12:3
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

Quote from: Revelation 13:1-2
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority

Have you read the acid trip that is Revelations?

The Book of Revelations is not an acid trip, it simply describes the state of humanity and events soon to come in these last times Smiley

Have you read the entire book, or are you going by what you have been told about it?

I read Revelations when I was 12, after my teacher at the private Christian School that I was attending, warned us not to read that book during our morning forced reading of the bible (I have a habit of doing everything people warn me not to... I want to know what they are hiding... and I had read most of the other books already)

It was the craziest shit I have ever read... It is wackier than Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!  No joke... crazier than any cartoon I have ever seen... it's really out there

That's where people get the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse... and, it has dragons!  Who doesn't love a good dragon story?

If it helps to confuse you even more...

I consider myself a Gnostic Antitheist...

I know that God does not exist, as well as anything non-mathematical can be known... The lack of evidence for God speaks even louder than the counterexamples do... If I were to put a number on it, I would say at least 99.9% certain... Given that reasonable doubt, according the the judge while I was a jury member, is in the range of 90-95%, my certainty goes well beyond a reasonable doubt

That's the Gnostic part...

The Antitheist mostly means (to me), that I believe religion is detrimental to society, and that we would be better off if had religion never been invented... As such, I actively fight against religious oppression of any form

Good definition, even if you make things even more complicated.
We could just call you someone who hates and despise religion ^^

I feel like being Agnostic is the only possibility for a reasonable man as it is without any doubt impossible to prove God doesn't exist and no proof of his existence can be found either. It means it's logical to keep your feet on the "we don't know and we can't know" line. But I perfectly understand the Antitheist part. People spit on Islam violence right now, but they forgot that the Dark Age of Christianity made the science progress go back to the 200's for nearly a millennia...

Except I don't hate religion any more than I hate HIV, or a cancer patient...

I see religion as an illness, and the people are sick... They need our help...

It is hard to think clearly when you have the flu... Isn't it nice when someone helps you while you are sick?  We can even provide medicine in the form of logic and reason and quotes from their own book, but recovery can take years

Religious people might not relate... They seem to think sick people are infested with demons:

I read it every day

Did you start at the beginning?

Have you made it to Leviticus?

Have you read the acid trip that is Revelations?

Or just the cherry-picked verses that your daily calendar hands you?

Hey here is a good video about Bible and prejudices Grin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEnWw_lH4tQ&feature=youtu.be

Example:16. God demands you kill your wife and children for worshiping other gods.
In Deuteronomy 13:6-10, God commands that you must kill your wife, children, brother, and friend if they worship other gods.

This is good too Top 20 Evil Bible Stories

Example:
It always amazes me how many times this  God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said Thou shall not kill. For example,  God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21)

And this This website is designed to spread the vicious truth about the Bible

This is the start of the promise land campaign of Moses as far as i know.
One has to look at this in military perspective and that if an ethnic group has more members and are capable of revolting the leader which is Moses, they kill them all to save the mission else they will fail.

Part of the story was that, they were about to go to Canaan but they instead go to Mount Sanai and people got angry with Moses due to it. they don't have enough food there were children and they can't plant crops in the desert. a revolt might happen and so they kill. what are they going to do in mount sainai?  they say the place is a copper mine and weapons during that time were made of copper. they want to build more army and turn their people into fighting army.  Grin

Holy shit... Someone actually read the Bible?

You are spot on...

The Israelites wanted to attack Canaan the first time, but Moses talked them out of it... They came back a few years later and murdered everyone (stealing the land of milk and honey from farmers via genocide)...

First I've heard about the copper mine, but it makes perfect sense with the rest of the story... I actually learned something, thanks

She openly talks about her "disbelief" so that's why she must cover her face nothing more.
To avoid problems if someone recognize her on street.
Many Muslims react very offensively on such talks.

Am I the only one who sees the hypocrisy in this?

Christians and Muslims accuse Atheists of being violent...

But, who is always the one assaulting the other? It is always the religious person punching/murdering the non-religious... Every single time... And why? Because they do not believe your fairy tale?!?

It is ok to smash babies against the rocks if they come from an adultery of your wife.

Yes, it is fully ok to kill gays.
It is ok to own other humans when they commited a sin, or if their race make that they suit to this usage.
I don't know about working on Sabbath, please give us the full quote and I'll be able to help you understand the Truth Smiley.

Now, that is good stuff.  Finally, we have one true Christian who is not afraid to speak the truth.

Here is the verse about working on Sabbath.  Go:

Exodus 31:14-15New International Version (NIV)
Quote
14 “‘Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it is to be put to death; those who do any work on that day must be cut off from their people. 15 For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.

The Jews have gotten quite good at "not working" on the Sabbath...

They have created inventions to "outsmart God"... some funny shit right here:

I don'think that is good to create a religion.for a business. You have to belive in.something, for some reason and make other people beleive too. Otherwise, that's not very moral. But that is just my opinion..

You would be amazed at the number of businesses and scams that are disguised as religious in order to get tax exemptions...
