There is plenty of history on the formation of any estate, and Ukraine is no different. In modern times, it is the people that live in a region or country that have the right to decide their future and their organisation. It is just silly pretending that you have to go back decades or even centuries and then wage a war on those grounds and certainly Putin does not give a ****k about that.

This war is only about Putin loosing their geostrategic grip and exclusive access on a large part of the former USSR republics, including some of the most strategic and financially critical regions such as the Black Sea and Azov Sea. All the rest is the trolls trying to make noise and trying to blame the war on things that are absolutely irrelevant to Putin and his entourage.

The sad truth is that Putin has failed to seduce, use diplomacy or economically influence those territories and he is using the last resource of the incompetent: war.

And as for how to stop the guy

2462  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Could cracks be appearing on Putin's controlled state media on: March 20, 2022, 01:06:02 AM
I just saw the latest video of Putin showing himself on a music concert. If it weren't in a middle of a war it would just be ridiculous. The guy goes to an event and tries to make it look like people supporting him just to show the middle finger to the West or try to appear strong.

One of the funniest things is that the images of two young ladies teens apparently "in trance" were taken from images from last year event! That is simply so stupid! The KGB would not be proud of you VP!

An another event to add to the tragic comedy of last days: These are the Russian astronauts in the ISS. These guys got real balls!

2463  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Like Vladimir Putin, is George Bush also a War Criminal? on: March 20, 2022, 12:54:53 AM
Yes, both Putin and Bush of the are war criminals as per the international law. That is part of the problem: the US has lost pretty much any (theoretical) moral superiority a long time ago, particularly with the war in Irak and the creation of Guantanamo and the flights of prisoners to countries that do not abide by rights.

To the list of Bush and Blair, I would add president Aznar (Spain) who also supported the war and lied to the Spanish saying there were weapons of mass destruction in Irak. I know, nobody cares about this guy, nevertheless he is a criminal.

There are many cases in which the US violates Human Rights, perhaps starting with the prison and judiciary system.

Yet, for me, there is always a difference between a democracy (even the US democracy which is far too influenced by the plutocrats) and an despot. A democracy has always ways to evolve and heal itself, despots don't.

Is this a country where people can be themselves and have the right to freedom of speech?

...see Trump's latest podcast with Joe Rogan... if you can find it, since it and its reuploads getting removed in a few hours after they get uploaded.
Luckily commy youtube isn't the only game in town:
https://www.bitchute.com/video/WdzbBWQbKhzd/

Freedom of speech like this?

The west banned their own president from every social media there is.

Seized the Russian properties regardless of whom the owner is supporting (seriously why haven't the UK questioned the source of Abramovitz's wealth before?), kicking people out of colleges, not letting Russian people into the restaurants (wtf?)

I haven't been to Russia so I can't say anything about the country but the west's mask has slipped, they are also not what they claim to be.

edit: Also see the Canadian truckers and what happened to them and their bank accounts. Freedom of speech my ass.

FAKE: Russian properties have not been seized indiscriminately. There is a specific list of people.

The UK has been very lax on questioning where the investments came from. However that also has a limit which is when that wealth threatens the UK itself.

FAKE: Trump has not been banned from most media. He has been banned from some media, privately owned, for breaching the terms of use. Tbh for breaching them over and over, including stating facts that were not true - not opinions which are free, but simply fake facts.

On freedom of speech is not allowed when calling for acts that disrupt democracy, such as trying to intimidate politicians into acting in a certain way. Trump was banned from Twitter, a private company, after using it as a platform to call for a disruption to the system that actually grants that freedom (among many other things), thus contravening the terms of use.

He is still free to speak, and he certainly does, from many platforms and has a whole party held hostage, in my view, because no-one dares to stop the bully.

By most of the interviews I've heard, civilians are reporting that the Russians have been fairly helpful in trying to allow them to leave the combat zones when they can.  This makes logical sense, and most of the actual evidence that I can see backs that up.

Not true. Putin's army has in many cases shelled civilians trying to flee. There are testimonies and abundant proof, but worry not because the thing about waging a war of aggression against a country that has internet and phones is that there are so many documents and proofs registered that there is no way of re-writing history and it will be reported, studied and publicly exposed to the last criminal act.

Some talk points that, for those who understand that Putin would not move a finger to protect anyone from "nazis", may actually be worth being discussed:

- There are indications that the railways in Belorussia have been sabotaged, and it seems to be internal. This may cause severe delays in the supplies to Putin's army surrounding Kiev. It could get to the point of his army not being able to defend themselves. This has not been confirmed yet by the major news outlets.

There are some indications that the UN security council is seriously considering removing Putin's Russia for the permanent membership. The fact that he is using the nuclear deterrent as a cover for an aggression on a non-nuclear power and has gone as far as "putting the nuclear forces on alert" (mostly for show, as they were not taking the day off anyway) and all the rhetoric about "serious consequences" on interventions is on the verge of getting him kick-off the most influential international forum.
2468  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chess online? on: March 18, 2022, 06:47:51 PM
I am afraid most of the sites are free. The best known one is Liiches, you can play over the phone and there are many variants and includes exercises and training as well as advanced analysis, "learn from your mistakes" and pretty much everything you need to play and learn, even to an advanced level including a library of openings.

On the betting side with crypto, I think that chess is sport that does not match well with betting. Players that are good consistently get good results and it makes it difficult to make it interesting. On top of that you have very advanced algos that would beat nearly 90% of players.
2469  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: March 17, 2022, 10:37:23 AM
I also believe that Real Madrid are better than Barcelona still even though Barcelona have improved themselves a lot compared to the first times of the season. This improvement should help them resist Real Madrid a lot. But Real Madrid are in such a great condition that they have a big chance for the league title. As they are very focused on it now, I think that they will succeed in winning this match. Barcelona will score too I think so my score predictions for this are 2-1 and 3-2.
It's true that Real Madrid are still better above Barcelona, and it's possible that they will win the match in the El Clasico duel later. But I also believe that Barcelona come with high motivation, because they haven't tasted victory for a long time when they meet their rivals. My prediction is that the match will be tight and at the end of the match Real Madrid will win.
Both teams are in good form and both have strong mentality when competing, but the El Clasico which will be held next week looks like Real Madrid has the advantage in this match because they are playing at home, but Barcelona players will of course also work extra and try to put as much pressure on the opponent as possible, so it will be very difficult to predict who will come out victorious and there is a possibility that they will play with a draw until the game ends.

I think that on this one chances are not of that range at all. Even if El Clasico always gives plenty of room for speculation, Barca is just not suited to present a serious challenge to Real Madrid and I would not place a bet on odds 2-1 or 3-2. I would start considering a bet on a 4-1 for Madrid, with a moderate wage and, for Barca, I could bet on a 3-1. The range makes little sense now.
2470  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will be the next big industry move? on: March 17, 2022, 10:33:36 AM
Most of the trend today is relayed on the world of NFT so there's an instance or chance might be they will adopt this kind of a trend right now afaik there's a thread too related to the Gambling and metaverse and also the virtual reality due to pandemic many people now are would like to entertain with this trends its the new meta of the gambling industry well looking forward on it lets see.
The pandemic has given the idea to everyone about the metaverse. And now that it has become a trend, everybody is thinking that it can be applied to almost all things that we do in our lives which includes gambling. Well, it's really possible but to see that it happen is what we have to be patient of. In the moment that we're discussing, we have no idea on what particular crypto casino is going to have this feature to attract more customers get into them just because they have their casino in the version of metaverse.

I personally love the way things are right now and a change to Metaverse which everyone here is talking about and since everyone it is talking about some crypto casinos can take it seriously and make it reality.I am a traditional gambler which just plays sport betting and slot machines most of the time with some fewer times roulette and blackjack.I am very very happy with the huge variety of the slot machines by different providers and even if Metaverse becomes a reality in crypto casinos I will still keep playing the traditional games.I don't like such dramatic changes in most of other industries as well, change is good but not always, why change something that has proved that it works great for something which you don't know how it will go ?
The metaverse is, of course, wonderful and interesting.

But there is one, as yet unresolved question.  The fact is that there are already more than 100 or even more than 200 projects of metauniverses. But we live in the same real Universe.  If this set of MetaUniverses does not unite into one large Metaverse, then they will be some kind of fragmented garbage for a narrow circle of users.
And accordingly, the casino in each of them will be just bullshit incomparable with the usual existing physical or even virtual casino from our universe. Smiley

In my opinion, very large financial investments are needed to create a full-fledged Metaverse.

We need powerful servers, 6g communication towers, virtual reality devices, programmers, designers, etc.

Government support is also needed.  Only a large IT company can make such investments.  I'm talking about companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Xiaomi, etc.

Therefore, there will not be very many Metaverses.  There will be 5 - 6 - no more.

Virtual reality devices need to be much more common and made much more affordable. The popularity it should have by now just has not happened. As far as investors go, I believe that a sufficient enough investment into that area could be made if it were adopted more by the people, instead of hoping for big investors pouring money into it. In fact, if Mark Zuckerberg can't make the cut by pouring his money into Metaverse, then what chance do other investors have?

I don't see the need for 6g when we can barely get everyone onboard with 5g....

I agree, it seems that 5G is just too many G's to lift of and reach escape velocity, to put it in a funny way. There is also a concern for safety related to the slow implementation of the technology since the speed of data transmission makes it more difficult to control. On regards to gaming, I do not see how the internet of things may give business opportunities to gambling, but I am eager to see how the industry uses it.
2471  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Blame Game in gambling on: March 17, 2022, 10:23:49 AM
When I was 16 my mom and dad was already clueless with most of my activities outside the house, even inside to a certain extent. So it is difficult for them to know whether I am beginning to get hooked on to gambling, porn, solvent, weed, guns, meth, etc. So I think there is also the part in which government agencies should be functioning to their full capacity so that these things could be avoided. I can understand how frustrated the parents of the victim here. Their son is dead.

I think if parents are clueless on everything technical, they should get someone (a friend or family member) to help them with that, so it should not be used as an excuse. Also, if a child are allowed to sit behind a closed door ..and participate in illegal activities, then the parent are not doing their job.

I say.... have a open door policy.. when your child are not naked or in need of privacy. They should not be behind closed... because that gives them the opportunity to participate in illegal activities that might harm them.

In our family ...we keep the doors to our rooms open and only close it when we need some privacy. We also spend time together most of the time ... so we do not get time to hide secret activities.  Wink
When the child is still young and spends a lot of time at home, this measure with open doors and the absence of secret activities is certainly effective.
But what happens when your child grows up and begins to communicate more with his friends.  His friends and acquaintances, especially those who are older, can also teach him how to play online casinos.  Here, you can't stop it.
Especially if he began to spend a lot of time outside your home.
And it is during such periods that children can become addicted to gambling.  And here you can’t even come up with such effective ways as “open doors”

I think it is actually easier that children get in contact with gaming and betting in the off-line AKA real world than on-line. They will wager with friends at sports or even play occasionally if they manage to enter a site with fake ID or the like. The exception is actually the gaming industry in which sometimes games may introduce forms of betting or staking that may lead youngsters into the activity unadvertedly.
2472  Economy / Gambling / Re: Join a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms on: March 17, 2022, 10:16:17 AM
If I say here I am not saying to boycott the Bolobo Russia platform because there is no connection between the war and the actual platform site.  Doesn't look like one with this I think it needs to be distinguished between the Chuar platform site and the battle and when mixing like the battle platform here
you always have your rights which site to play with and which to Boycott , what i wanna know is why supporting those sites? are you regular players of those casinos? if you are going to play with those then you must believe that supporting the listed  site would let the Russian government collect some funds to support their War against Ukraine.
<snip>

I'm always against war, but I do not think it is a right thing to do to "boycott" every Russian casino. I mean, there are possibly Russian online gambling site that operates really well and innocent (no scams, etc.) which gives good service to their customer. I do not think that they should also be directly affected by this war that started by their president Putin. However, I think it is true that the Russian government collects tax from these licensed casinos, in which can be used to fund their invasion.
Everyone has their own way of choosing which gambling site they will use to gamble. After all, people are now smarter in choosing the gambling site so maybe we don't need to boycott the gambling sites in question, but we can just play on the sites that we have played and play with the choice of gambling sites you like.

Yes, Putin can levy taxes from these licensed casinos, especially since we know that Putin has the power to do that. So let the people choose what they want and rest assured, the war will stop soon.

In fact Putin has made many companies that were having earning in foreign currency buy rubles forcibly or else. This means that if you play with bitcoin or with USD or with EUR in any Russian owned casino or even if you spend your money in any Russian owned company of any short your money will be going to finance Putin's economy of war and kill people.

I cannot help but to add here the instructions to make a white flag out of a Russian Federation flag. Thanks to suchmoon.

Feel free to pass this on to any Russian soldiers you know:

Just for Putin's soldiers and officers, please notice that you can cut your flag with anything, you do not really need scissors. I suggest that you use the edge of a rations can, these seem to cut even when you do not want them too and can cut the flag perfectly.

Do not die for Putin. Live to see your family again.
2474  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russian Invasion of Ukraine[In Progress] on: March 17, 2022, 09:33:00 AM
That wasn't the question. Why would someone cramp that many people in the middle of nowwhere. Any cellar in a house is saver, even the subway.
If have no idea if even a single person died there, if so it looks more like a sacrifice like Normandy .......

No, that's exactly the question that needs to be asked instead of your straw man bullshit. Why bomb a theater? Why bomb civilian housing for two weeks so they become homeless and have to shelter in other buildings, such as a theater? What about people who don't have a "cellar", open season on them?

Subway in Mariupol, yeah right Roll Eyes

I see four possible answers
-It was Azov that blew it up (seems to be Russian argument)
-It was used by UA side to attack from, so its a fair target for RU.
-It was a RU mistake
-RU side just decided to risk its plane and use a bomb on civilians instead of targeting nazi Azov (because Putin craves more innocent blood)

The scenarios can be debated by the keyboard warriors.

What concerns me is why 350.000 people are still not allowed to leave Mariupol!! Why people who seem to care so much about human casualties, are not outraged that 350.000 civilians are forced to stay in a besieged city with a humanitarian crisis? Is the concern for their safety still the official reason for calling off evacuations? But then how come 20,000 residents have left Mariupol in private cars so far? Why only letting few thousand go per day is fine but not all 350.000 in buses? Who benefits from keeping civilians in the city?

Shouldn't everyone concerned for innocent civilian lives be talking about this, and putting more pressure on Red Cross/UN to make sure people can evacuate so things like this won't happen again?

Or another answer: terror tactics or just destroying anything big enough to group people, which, in my view, is the most likely possibility. It has been confirmed that there are a large number of schools across the country that have been destroyed, the "mistake" or the "false flag" options are just not realistic.

A number of Putin's generals have been demoted due to lack of progress, the ones that take over have seen how Ukrainians do not seem to be going anywhere on their own volition, so terror and mass destruction are now on the table.

Re Mariupol, the problem is that Putin's army does not seem to be abided by their own words. From refugees that made it out of Mariupol, the "green paths" are kind of green-grey, meaning that some of the people seeking safe passage have been massacred. And that is civilians fleeing. Killing them is an act of hate, madness and desperation that does not look like the typical coldly calculated and propaganda-covered action by Putin.

There is no comment of any refugee being forcibly retained in Mariupol. As you say, there is a balance between fear of getting killed on the road and fear of dying of the bombs and people make their choices. Some, the elder, the sick,... they do not have a real choice.

The hypothesis of the Ukrainian army or any of it groups threatening civilians is not realistic. They are fighting Putin's army and cannot afford to divert efforts nor have a hostile population under their feet. Also, Putin's army has shown little regard distinguishing between civil or military targets - any tall building is considered a risk and blown.

On Putin's army suffering an significant number of losses, it clearly matches the strategic outlook regardless of destruction tweets and Ukraine's own information war. The war is no longer a blitzkrieg. Putin is facing determined resistance and, while there are undeniable gains and advances from his troops, the price being paid may be just unaffordable politically and economically.

Seems like Putin is winning in territory at the cost of loosing very valuable equipment and even veteran soldiers he may not be able to replace - even less if the country is sent into an economic recession. He cannot risk loosing too many planes, as, in his imaginary world, the NATO can easily use that weakness to attack and gain full air superiority. He cannot afford withdrawing troops from other borders without risking inferiority. The so called reservists that artificially rise the number of Putin's military are not trained, lack leadership and cannot be supplied (they are the definition of cannon fodder).

Despite all this Putin will not (cannot stop). He may "win" in some form the war (territorial concessions), but all indicates that he will loose the peace, and, unfortunately, it will be the Russian people, whose only fault is not being able or not wanting to risk getting rid of this government, the ones that will pay with poverty and ostracism.
2475  Other / Politics & Society / Re: UN condeming Genocide in Ukraine Could we See the rise of a Second UN on: March 17, 2022, 09:11:09 AM
IF the US uses the UN to condemn Russia one sided of Genocide while ignoring the Genocide in Donbass that Caused the war.

...

FAKE. The reason for the war is not a "genocide" of any short, that is just the usual propaganda you are pouring in all your post. There was an armed conflict sponsored by Russia in the Donbas unrelated to language, race, religion or culture.

The only reason for the war is that Putin wants to have control over what happens in Ukraine to feed his court of oligarchs and cronies by using the same "mafia style" of business model they have successfully implemented in Russia. An this is not just saying, we are talking about many journalists killed, people poisoned with Polonium even abroad, opposition leaders and even anti-war protesters are incarcerated while Putin hides in his bunker and speaks even to his closes circle across a 5 meter table.

What could potentially happen is not a second UN, but a simple expulsion of Putin's Russia from it as it he has show little intention of becoming a peaceful and prosperous estate, but rather chosen war, invasion, aggression and bullying towards his neighbours. What good is to have Putin in the UN if he despises it?

2476  Economy / Economics / Re: Putin next steps and where it may fail spectacularly on: March 16, 2022, 07:00:40 PM
Putin knows that his troops are destroying residential buildings and deliberately shooting at the peaceful civilian population of Ukraine. The captured Russians directly say that they received an order to shoot at the civilian population, shoot at women and children. Now in the south of Ukraine there is a stubborn struggle for the city of Mariupol, and after unsuccessful attempts to capture this city with 400 thousand inhabitants, it is simply destroyed by Russian rockets and artillery. Agreements on the provision of "green corridors" do not work, since at the agreed time the Russians begin shelling the city. Ukrainian intelligence has clearly established that Putin personally instructed not to release the civilian population of Mariupol and not to allow humanitarian supplies into this city. Putin is a killer of the civilian population of Ukraine.
That is all because he is 70 years old and he has gotten whatever he wanted until this age. When you have that kind of hubris, and that kind of power for 70 years, then you turn into a maniac whenever someone tells you that you can't get something.

I mean think about it this way, if Ukraine didn't put up this much resistance when it was crimes (there was still a war, but Russia was more successful) then Putin thinks how come he can't do it now? This is why I believe that we should not be surprised that some maniac at the top of a huge nation with nuclear powers and a big military can't really end up comprehending he is doing something bad, that is because he doesn't really see it as a bad thing, since he is a bad person as well, what he does seems normal to him.

There is plenty to talk about when you are seeing a crony government, living on crony business, extorting their own countries into making them even richer. And it is that bunch of old men, not only in age but also in mentality and in the way they conceive their relation with other human beings, just the ones that send the young and poor people from the most remote regions of Putin's Russia to die without even telling them what they are doing and without any reasonable argument since their country, their lives, their families nor their culture is being threatened in any ways.
As a citizen then you wont really be having any choice but to deal with it because there would be no other way except if you are flying to other country which does have better jurisdiction but if not then we are seeing

...

Freedom is not free. French revolution, the fights with the British kings, the Russian revolution, the Chinesse revolution and many other cases did start with people deciding they wanted something else and I am seeing very little of that in Russia, although there is some.

One of the things they could start by doing is selling their tanks and vehicles (to me if possible) and do not die for Putin.
2477  Economy / Economics / Re: Putin is trying to coerce firms into doing business or else... on: March 16, 2022, 06:57:22 PM
Let's take McDonalds for example. Say the company decide to leave and then Putin seizes the assets, what is he gonna do with it?

I think that it's not the best example.
MacDonald's works as a franchise business. So the owners of the actual restaurants (hence the assets) are (probably) Russians.
They were paying for the rights and recipes and parts and MacDonald's was actually having all the contracts right so the suppliers keep sending what's needed where's needed.

However, there's nothing for Putin to seize in MacDonald's. Maybe from other businesses. But going on this track he ensures Russia will become a big no for... basically every goods and services that matter (but I'm no longer surprised; I'm curious how long will it take until most Russians get to understand what happens there).

Just used McDonalds since I don't know what other foreign brands have presence in Russia but I suppose there's still the problem of seizing their assets - how do you liquidate it if no one outside is going to buy it?

...

Judging for Putin's usual modus operandi, he will seize the assets, give them to one of his mafia bosses oligarchs to open a local version (McPutin or Vladpple) and get his cut of the business to buy more flats in London, a larger palace or a couple of islands or archipelagos that he fancies.

He can get very creative and quite persuasive when he wants to take someone else's stuff as you can see right now in Ukraine.
2478  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia Declares it is ready for war with American and European countries on: March 16, 2022, 06:49:12 PM
As an American, it's easy for me to look at the Russia situation and blame them for trying to ignite a war.  It does appear to be a bit of a double standard though.  Russia has been fairly open about the military defense systems surrounding their country making them uncomfortable
...

Not trying to defend Russia, but ...

I have seen all over the forum "I am not with Russia but...". Firstly, this is not Russia, this is Putin's version of Russia.  Secondly, "feeling uncomfortable" is not a morally or legal valid excuse to attack another country with the intention to change their government.

Now, I do get there is a point on not throwing rocks at a bear, however you cannot let the bear decide what you can or cannot do in your country or else you will never be free to progress, change and evolve as a nation.

On the NATO argument, there is no argument. Putin knows perfectly well that NATO would not accept Ukraine as a member - it is simply too risky. This is all about Putin trying to get a strategic hold on the Black Sea and trying to incorporate Ukraine, a large food producer, into their crony envelope of oligarchs to steal from Ukrainians as he steals the resources of the Russian people.

The only thing that Russians forget is that even when it comes to oil they can't do shit without western equipment. The first Russian artic platform was 20 years decommissioned Conoco oil platform,  most of the drilling in northern Siberia was actually done by western companies, see the associations with BP and Shell, and what is not western is made in South Korea.

As I know, what concerns the oil and resource research is quite good. At least I've heard they got decent specialists. Also, I agree with your general statement that in globalized world you can't do shit alone (works for any country) but situation with Russia is a bit different. This time there is an external reason for that and since Russia becomes more isolated there is no fear of loosing foreign investors because they already lost them due to other reasons. This rule only applies during the times of free trade.

On the oil extraction business, it is certain that the extraction, processing and even transportation has become a very specialised business. Even large companies depend on a selected group of technologists and know-how companies. This is nothing like we nationalise and next day we just open as usual. And on the financial side, it is pretty much the same, it is not only the huge investments required, it is the ability to manage efficiently those fluxes of money without loosing them to corruption, inexperience and inflated supply-chains.

If the military invasion of Ukraine by Putin's army is an example of how things are managed in his government, I can already tell you there is plenty of GDP to be lost.
