Smooth, take note that Anonymint seems to think that Monero's distribution model is suboptimal. In fact, he shares the exact concerns that I brought up several times over the last few months. Setting things up so that you have to rely on donations was clearly a mistake.

Monero would not have one tenth of the current support if it had any had of shady or scammy background as the case of other coins, marketcap at this stage is an illusion. Comparison with communism is ridiculous, monero is an open source project that do not aim to make anyone rich quick not even the developers, it should be obvious by now.
It has nothing to do with current market cap! Monero needs the best talent if it is to succeed. If you want the best people to put forth effort, they need to be given a stake. How can you get people like Anonymint to contribute when the funds for development are so scant?

By... donating?  Peel off 1% of your stack  and send it in! Tongue

Yes.  But only with a way back machine.

Update!!

Well I lost it all. My hard died on me. I was able to sync with bitmonerod (thanks for the help by the way). However, my .keys files went down with the hard drive... 534 Monero's!! almost a year worth of mining down the drain.

Well, i still have 1.5 KH/s worth of mining power. Back to the drawing board....

Word of caution to all - BACKUP/SAVE your stuff! Don't be me!!!

That sucks.  I lost btc that way.  Education Costs.  One way or another.  On the bright side, it is extremely unlikely to happen to you again!

Re entried with most of my trading stash around 0.002 Smiley

Yep.  I got tired of waiting for another 10% drop.  The invisible wall could just as easily cause a spike of that or more at any time, and the name of my game is accumulation, not crumb catching.  Might have had even more by waiting, but I will just get more XBT and still buy at 0.0018 and down, should we go there.  If not, I have more XMR than last week.  Mission accomplished.
The world and privacy are still going to shit.  Buy more monero.
2505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 07, 2015, 08:42:33 PM
what you mean with polo trap ? ??   this spike was a good buy order ... now without offial gui for wallet etc.. no news .. price is correcting normally to 0.0015 maybe or more hopely, tons of monero are mined and pushed to markets everyday .

just sell now and buy moar xmr cheaper  Cheesy

Yep, sell all you can!  50 cents is a pretty good buy, for me.  But it takes sellers
and of course, there are fewer mined every day.  This trend I expect to continue  Tongue

But if it drains your already scarce battery resource I doubt many people would keep it running when there's little incentive.

mine is plugged in most of the time as well.  i'm not saying everyone would be altruistic, but i think alot of ppl would be especially since there would be no cost except for minor wear and tear on the phone.  for me, i replace my phones once a year so it's not a big deal.

no doubt there are always those who ask not what they can do to help the network but only what the network can do to help them.
Leave an old phone plugged in in the corner instead of gathering dust in a drawer somewhere.  Small, cheap (paid for) node.

We . . . might team up with some guys here to build the first Monero ATM Smiley

Have you seen http://planet-capital.com/ ? Looks like they are planning to support trading multiple crypto-currencies. Perhaps you could collaborate and add XMR support to their platform.

XMR atm would be awesome!  I'll never see one here in the middle of nowhere, but we can dream!
2508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: May 01, 2015, 01:49:09 AM
Few observations.

Bitcoin has maintained a sustained downtrend despite:

- Good attributes
Bitcoin is probably the most perfect form of money. It's extremely divisible, eminently transferable,  and vanishingly scarce. Its cost of storage is zero. It's indestructible.
People are investing in an eyeglasses retailer called Warby Parker (started in 2010) at a 1.2 billion dollar valuation.
http://time.com/3842342/warby-parker-valuation/
Having superior attributes is good but does little to spark growth.

- Merchant "adoption"
Bitcoin has many big-name merchants participating in so-called merchant adoption. Merchants accept USD and Bitpay sells bitcoin. It also has a significant number of black market merchants using it.  All of them endeavor to hold bitcoin for the least amount of time possible. We shouldn't be surprised that this isn't propping up the price.

-Vastly improved accessibility
People around the world can buy bitcoin quite easily these days. There are ways to buy bitcoin at any 7/11 in some countries.

Counterparty has not recovered from its sustained downtrend despite:

- ZERO inflation.

Therefore, the following arguments regarding XMR:

1) adoption is lacking!
2) inflation is killing the coin!
3) the superiority of the coin's attributes will speak for themselves eventually!
4) XMR isn't accessible enough!

are beginning to appeal to me less and less.

Instead, I am beginning to think that the most successful coin will give its users some kind of benefit for HOLDING it. Both Darkcoin masternodes, BitShares "yield" for bitassets, and Proof-of- stake (in general) provide this motivation in arguably flawed ways, but the idea that there should be motivation to hold is sound, and I've come to believe that this is the final key to unlocking viral growth of bitcoin.

With regards to XMR, Crypto-Kingdom is currently the only thing that's proving that motivation.

Not sure I understand. You mean something over and above the massive exponential value increase? It will happen, or the project fails.
2509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: April 30, 2015, 01:09:17 AM
Yup that's true.. We are gonna be new wealthy elite n gentlemen in coming period of time. I suggest to BTC community that whatever income you possess at present invest it in Bitcoins itself. So after 5 years down the line you will see the profitable results.
It's a great Feeling to hold an bitcoins it was a wise decision to invest in a bitcoin and this is just an beginning
Still the best days to come at present i am investing everything in bitcoins because the scenario would be different in next 5 years and i ll be a rich guy for sure.

I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything, but please consider the possibility of Bitcoin not succeeding, or even failing horribly. This is still a possibility, and not a very slim one, actually. Make sure not to live in a dream world that only revolves around Bitcoin succeeding. That being said, I hope that you are indeed right Smiley

Yep.  Bitcoin is going to run up against some major fungibility issues if tptb have their way, which could hamper long term success.  I'm pretty sure mid term it will fly, though.  If you are counting on bitcoin to make you wealthy, don't forget to take profits along the way.  Better a few birds in hand than an empty bush  Wink
2510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 30, 2015, 01:01:24 AM
How many Monero do I need to have in order to be called an XMR whale?

100k would do it.  1/2 of that, maybe a dolphin.

edit:

>1% of the existing coin supply IMHO.
about that, yeah Wink

2511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 29, 2015, 02:54:06 AM

I guess im speculating on future utility if you want to be technical about it but I need something like monero because the chances are very good that i will need something like monero in the future.

If I ever actually manage to become wealthy I will be so fucked. The government will take so much of it. They take a lot now but its not just about how much they take now its about the trend. If the trend holds, people justify it now, but it will be almost incontrovertibly criminal in the future if the trend holds and we have to prepare for the future. Monero offers some amount of protection from this. What else does? People should be clamoring to this project just for self defense reasons.

This says it all.

Sure, I've got some PMs and various other preparations as well, but the farther we go, the worse it gets.  I've even come around to the thought that that old stand by, Land, is not going to be able to preserve or provide wealth in the not too distant future.  Privacy is required.  I'm open to other ideas, but at this time, I don't see a better proposition than Monero.
2512  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: April 29, 2015, 12:19:16 AM
The negative interest rate hall of mirrors is screwing with people's minds enough to wake them up from the Central Bank manipulated price-perception fantasy dream. The monetary CONfidence game may be coming to an end ... feels to me like the Rubicon has been crossed.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comment/jeremy-warner/11569329/Jeremy-Warner-Negative-interest-rates-put-world-on-course-for-biggest-mass-default-in-history.html

nothing new, it seems at this point the reality could simply go beyond the fiction. at least for quite a while. just look at varoufakis exiting negociations by the small door.

I disagree, what is novel here is a mainstream financial editor/writer willing to threaten the centralbank mind-control mantra and say specifically, "This is really, really, f$#%ed up". Fiat money is based purely on perception and Keynesians write papers on "behavioral economics" that fuel the manipulations, jaw-boning, market operations, etc that target price controls. If the illusion begins to dissolve it is over, that is how fragile the current situation is.

What is depressing is it has taken the prospect of negative nominal rates to start this. Negative real rates are what really matter, that is financial repression. We have had negative real rates for years, but most people seem OK with that. It is only when the nominal rate goes negative and people see that their balances will go down, that all of a sudden it's an issue.

An educated populace would have balked at negative real rates. That fact that we collectively didn't says a lot.

There is a reason  that we find the 'average' person to be stupid.  It is not an illusion.  It is merely perspective.  Most people are not suited to academic learning.  They are suited (in wool?) to following, and we can't have a trend until they do (follow), regardless of right/wrong/need/want.  The truth is, they HAVE been 'educated'. It is just that our little minority disagrees with the particular indoctrination with which they were so easily placated.
2513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 26, 2015, 04:21:15 PM
I've been holding my XMR religiously since I bought at the top.. still waiting to recover my investment. I was so unlucky.
When will XMR reach ATH again?

If you bought at the top, you could have cut your average price nearly in half with 10% more investment at the bottom.  You'd still be waiting, but more comfortably.  You can still take it down considerably, with the price below 25% of the top...

I know I took advantage of the bottom to average down, but with less effect as I didn't buy anywhere near the top to start with. Feels good to be in the black  Grin

Now how did you get off ignore?!
2515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 21, 2015, 01:35:53 AM
what is considered a large stash of moneros these days?

18400 ish  is where I start to call it a large stash (0.1% of total emission before tail inflation begins).  Even still, that's only about $15k today, which is peanuts for many.

There are clearly a number of whales with 10x that out there, but they will diminish as price rises.

2516  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: April 20, 2015, 04:03:55 AM

So why would anyone trust a Qualcomm hardware bitcoin wallet built into their smartphone if it was proprietary?

Most of the masses (as yet uninvolved in bitcoin) don't care.  I don't suppose its a great way to store your life's savings, but I think most would be willing to risk their spending money without a qualm.

@saddambitcoin, @myagui, thank you for your replys. It turned out I did make a new address at mymonero. I guess I'll have to take a better care of my stash. Is there an exponential term for Ambarresed? I'm getting old....

I dread the day I'm so old I don't recognize my age related failures. I have a sneaking suspicion it's closer than I think. Smiley

It might be a relief when you no longer recognize them  Cheesy  Ignorance is bliss... ?

When I get there I won't get headaches anymore thinking of the circular logic here rite? Tongue

I don't  Wink Cheesy

OK, so I don't know if this is OT or not but here goes.

What's your opinions on BTC next stable price? I will have to be buying in again and obviously want to grab BTC as low as possible as it's nothing more than a vehicle to XMR for me.

I am very curious as to how many monero holders take this stance. Are you "All in" or do you hold some xbt?

I know it's heresy to ask how much btc deep these "all in"ers (or anyone) are as it infers approximate xmr holdings, but my curiosity begs the question still.

I don't believe in BTC and won't even be bothered to call it XBT as most of the world doesn't know or even care what XBT means and barely knows what BTC means. I think it's retarded to try to rename something that is just getting a foothold in peoples mind. But I think XBT (happy?) will be gone in under a decade as the Blockchain will (If it hasn't already) be completely mapped and when that happens then All hell will break loose as LEA and Lawyers will be going apeshit over who owns what. It's already been shown by Coins being blacklisted from exchanges and gateways like coinbase collecting user info, the writing is on the wall.

Nomenclature semantics aside, I simply find interest in the motivations of different xmr investors. I share many of your concerns for btc (happy?, Tongue) and have gravitated to Monero for similar reasons. I believe bitcoins fungibility is fundamentally broken. It's development has also failed to remain agile, miserably. However I still see significant gains to be made down the road. I still hold a strong belief that for Monero to make it, bitcoin has to make it first. The public will be too cynical of cryptocurrencies if bitcoin fails. If crypto is to happen, it rather needs to succeed then fade into the background as something superior takes over. Otherwise I think some kind of state sponsored cryptocurrency may be the more likely outcome.

EDIT: Don't want to be OT. Looks like 0.003 is quite determined to be the price of monero right now.

All of this.  BTC is broken to me, but I still expect and, I suspect, require it to soar for a time before the masses realize its dangers and limitations.  Before this happens Monero needs to strengthen and grow in preparation for the exodus from BTC  Cool

There will always be a new, freedom-loving frontier. It's not America anymore. It's here. It's called the internet.

Space.  The Final Frontier.
