2541  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin climbs the price level to 27k, what do we expect next? on: December 31, 2020, 11:26:21 AM
I want to see whether we can get to 30K by the end of this year. Only a few hours remain now and we need another $1,000 to take Bitcoin over the 30K level. After so much of disappointment in 2019, I never expected 2020 to be such a good year for the long-term investors. And in all probability, 2021 is going to be even better. And who knows? We may even touch six-digits by next year.
2542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Had you sold your Bitcoins ? on: December 31, 2020, 11:16:10 AM
Just today, I sold BTC0.05 from my stash for around $1,400. I have been doing this for the last 2-3 years now. Back in 2018, I decided that every year I will be selling around 20% of my coins. But the prices were really low in 2018 and 2019, and this meant that if I had held on to those coins, then I would have got better returns. But I have no regrets. I still have plenty of coins remaining in my wallet.
2543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are people buying BTC @ $27000+ idiots? on: December 31, 2020, 11:05:11 AM
The more mature a market becomes the "safer" it is to enter. People that thought the market was not ready at 4k may think its good to go in now.
This is what you see with the big institutions as well. They need liquidity to put their massive funds into it. The higher the price, the more room there is to buy big.

The institutional investors have mopped up a lot of the available supply during the last few months. This is beneficial for the other investors, because these investments reduce the overall volatility. Institutional investors such as Grayscale are unlikely to dump their coins, and this means that the chances of a price crash gets lower. Also, these investors can be expected to store their coins more securely when compared to the institutional investors. A lot many times, corrections occur when hackers dump their stolen BTC in to the market.
2544  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 31, 2020, 10:53:46 AM
KL Rahul is most likely to play better in the shorter form of cricket so it is better to let it be then replacing Mayank with Rohit is the best choice now because Rohit is more consistent when opens the inning which could be continued in the test format as well. Vihari is a decent batsman who can fit into multiple batting positions so keeping him in the squad and encouraging with more chances can help him to grow up further so in the long run which can be really good for team India.

KL Rahul is a very exciting batsman, but he needs to improve on his maturity level. And regarding Rohit Sharma, he is like the no.2 player in the Indian team and he is the automatic choice when Virat Kohli is not available as the captain. BTW, I am not a fan of Hanuma Vihari. He has some good performances to his name, but there are more deserving players out there.

ICC released the list of their winners of the decade and I agree with all of them. Check the link.

https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/1956755

Kohli and Perry dominated by snatching several awards and they totally deserve them. I was especially impressed with Perry who is one of the few female Cricketers who is awesome in almost all departments.

MSD winning the spirit award was epic too. ICC nailed the winners in my opinion.

Ellyse Perry is like the equivalent of Steve Smith in the Australian women's team. I really doubt whether she would have been this much successful, if she was playing for any of the other countries. Cricket Australia takes good care of it's women's team, unlike other boards such as the BCCI and the PCB. There are a lot of talented female cricketers in India, but they never get the same amount of opportunities.
2546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: The Broken Promise For The Hunters on: December 30, 2020, 05:35:06 AM
Yes. I think there is no need to complain in times we don't receive tokens as rewards because we know in the first place that being a bounty hunter has no guarantee to earn profits or rewards either we got scammed or the project failed to reach its market cap. But it's always a blessing to be rewarded though after all our hard works and efforts for the success of the project.

The bounty hunter needs to do some research on his own, to find out whether the project is capable of achieving the soft-cap or not. Sometimes, the projects keep soft-cap at unviably high levels, and as a result of this the project fails to get investment. The bounty hunters suffer in the end, as no one is going to reimburse all the hard work they put in to promoting the project.
2547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple the next bitcoin? on: December 30, 2020, 05:23:07 AM
This thread was created a few months ago when there were no issues regarding XRP, so I think the question on this thread is still possible,
But after the rumors about XRP a few days ago and many exchanges delisting XRP, that question becomes impossible, without investor support and big exchanges it will be difficult for altcoins to stay on top of Coinmarketcap.

One month back, XRP was trading at 4,200 Satoshis per token and now the exchange rate has gone below 700 Satoshis. This means that those who invested in this shitcoin got a ROI of -85% in just one month. This is meltdown of historic proportions. And hopefully this incident will teach the investors to stay away from the other overpriced shitcoins, which are still available in the market.
2548  Economy / Speculation / Re: I bought BTC at 23.5K$ on: December 30, 2020, 05:13:21 AM
Right now Bitcoin is trading at around $28,000 per coin, and therefore the buyer is already at a profit of $4500 per coin or close to 16%. If the user doesn't want to take anymore risk, then he can immediately liquidate his holdings. After the tax cut and exchange withdrawal fees, he'll still get around 10% ROI. But I would recommend holding the coins for another 3-4 years and a target of $100,000 can be set for the long term.
2549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Be Excited about the rise, be wary about the scams, and loss on: December 30, 2020, 05:03:24 AM
I have been around here for more than 8 years and I can confirm that there will be an uptick in the scamming attempts, whenever the prices start going up. The users need to be extra careful at this point. There can be several types of scams, including phishing attempts, password stealing and identity theft. Before sending your coins, confirm multiple times that you are doing the correct step.
2550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Litecoin Ready for a Major Breakout? on: December 30, 2020, 04:53:14 AM
I saw a thread claiming that Litecoin has overtaken XRP to become the 4th biggest cryptocurrency, in terms of market capitalization. I checked Coinmarketcap, and found that the claim was wrong. But only around $300 million separates the two cryptos and I expect LTC to become no.4 sometime soon. The destruction of XRP seems to have opened new avenues for Litecoin.
2551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc do you need to secure your future? on: December 30, 2020, 04:43:15 AM
I'm a Simple and cheap living human ,so i guess 10 btc is more than enough for me to live forever,as i am health conscious and Never been hospitalized seriously my entire life.

LOL.. do you have 10 BTC in your wallet? I would assume less than 0.1% of the Bitcointalk users will be having more than 10 BTC with them. Even most of the earliest users have sold their coin holdings many years ago. Only a minority has held on to them. And with institutional investors mopping up most of the available supply, the number of coins held by individual investors has undergone a decline.
2552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are the benefits of buying XRP at present? on: December 30, 2020, 04:33:25 AM
Since the price of XRP is the lowest at the present time, what is the possibility of profit if I buy it at the present time? This project will not be in the market and will go away.

From what I have seen during my 8+ years of association with cryptocurrency is that investing in XRP at this point will be a loss making exercise. Once an altcoin goes down by 70% or 80% in a short duration, the chances are that it will never recover. It will be interesting to see the reaction from the XRP promoters. If Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen are quietly dumping their tokens, then it is a massive red flag.
2553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LTC has replaced XRP for the 4th place on: December 30, 2020, 04:23:23 AM
it was only a matter of time until the ripple was knocked out of the top 10. sooner or later they will become worthless altcoins. I think 2021 will be the toughest year for Ripple and its investors. if other major exchanges follow Coinbase's footsteps, XRP will be over.

Centralized cryptocurrencies such as XRP should not be having any place in the cryptocurrency sector. On top of that, XRP promoters have always indulged in market manipulation, by creating artificial scarcity for the tokens. Litecoin deserves a place in the top-5, since it has been around for such a long time. Also, the LTC developers have done a commendable job, in updating the code and weeding out bugs.
2554  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 30, 2020, 04:06:25 AM
Congrats to India on winning the second test match. Now they have all the momentum going into the Sydney test match which looks like it will go ahead now even with the concerns of the virus. It will be another pitch that should suit India and this gives them a chance to go 2-1 in the series as I just don't see India playing as well in Brisbane as like I said Australia have a very good record in Brisbane and haven't lost there in years. I also think Warner will come back into the Australian team which could help sure up the opening spot and Will Pucovski could make his test debut.

Pucovski didn't made a lot of runs during the warmup matches. But given the horrible state of the Australian batting lineup, any new addition should be welcome. What bothers me is the poor run from Steve Smith. Just like India, who are heavily dependent on Virat Kohli, the Australians are also over dependent on Steve Smith. But the Indians were able to win a test match even without Kohli, while the Australians lost despite Smith playing for them.
2555  Other / Politics & Society / Re: All Canadians to be vaccined. Trudeau orders 40 million vaccines for 38 million on: December 30, 2020, 03:56:10 AM
I read somewhere online that around 5% of the population are completely against vaccinations and won't get the corona vaccine. This sounds very promising because it only takes 60-70% to achieve the goal of herd immunity. But 40 million vaccines seem a big low in my opinion. I thought it takes two shots of vaccine to actually get immunity. So this would mean only half of the population could actually get it.

The mass manufacturing of the vaccine is progressing at a very slow pace and none of the countries have reported more than one million vaccinations till now. Even Russia, which promised to vaccinate 2 million people by the end of December has missed that mark by a long distance. There are multiple risks here. First of all, the vaccine is not that easy to manufacture. And secondly, the storage and transportation is very difficult, as it needs ultra-deep freezing. And finally, many of the countries haven't yet came up with the list of priority individuals, who needs to be vaccinated first.
2556  Economy / Economics / Re: 2021 not Looking good on: December 29, 2020, 01:32:07 PM
Indications are that the COVID 19 situation is getting worse. The more contagious strain of the virus (which was first reported from the United Kingdom) has now spread to more than a dozen countries and the full impact of this will be visible within the next few months. I expect 2021 to be worse than 2020, with more infections and deaths. And we can expect another economic recession as well and the stock markets may crash to record lows.
2557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple the next bitcoin? on: December 29, 2020, 01:22:04 PM
As per the latest figures from Coinmarketcap, only $0.5 billion separates the 4th ranked Ripple from Litecoin (which is at no.5 in terms of market capitalization). Now remember that XRP had a market cap of $30 billion until last month, which has been reduced to $9 billion in less than five weeks. That is $21 billion, vanished almost overnight. I was expecting this for quite some time, as I always thought that XRP was overpriced. But never thought that this shitcoin would die out so soon.
2558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc do you need to secure your future? on: December 29, 2020, 01:12:35 PM
1 BTC sounds like a good amount, but at current levels not many of the new users would be able to afford that many. Especially for those in the developed nations, this sounds like 10 times their average annual salary. But in most of the developing nations, the cost of living is also low. So we can argue that they don't need as much savings, as say someone who is residing in the United States or the European Union.
2559  Economy / Economics / Re: I lost my job, how about you guys? on: December 29, 2020, 06:42:11 AM
When there are losses for sure there will also come towards us to fill all that losses. We may have lost our jobs during these hard times but eventually we will regain that after we can have a vaccine next year. Time will surely heal all these struggles and we will get our lives back. We must be strong and courageous.

This is the wrong attitude. If you have lost your job, then that means that you don't have necessary skills to survive in an economic recession. The best way to move forward is to gain new skills. And this is the optimum time, as you have plenty of spare time. If you wait for vaccination to get completed, then you may sit idle for one or two years. And even after the situation returns to the pre-COVID levels, the job market may remain in a depressed state for some more time.
2560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Appeal to Everyone to secure your future on: December 29, 2020, 06:32:05 AM
Making small investments in Bitcoin is good. But at the same time, you need to keep your expectations low. Right now Bitcoin is trading at $26,400 per coin and its market cap is around $500 billion. Unlike what happened in 2013 and 2017, I don't think that it is possible for Bitcoin to give 20x or 50x returns anymore. It has already attained a high market capitalization, and therefore any future returns will be moderate.
