261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why *some guys claim Monero is the BEST coin ? on: September 30, 2014, 03:14:41 PM
Just another (cloned) coin whose supporters somehow believe it is "the future of cryptocurrency" (as usual).

I own zero Monero and I'm not interested in changing that at this point or anytime soon

Its actually a fork of Bytecoin.

LMAO. How is that not a clone then?

Okay thanks for clearing all that up SyRenity. We appreciate it, though in the future, please try to maintain better communication with the community in periods such as this.

Are you joking? I have been here saying all of this the entire time?!? I don't get no respect!!

I specifically mentioned SyRenity & Boris, as the people who should maintain better communication in times like these. If you check my previous posts I acknowledged both you and samsmith16 as keeping communication up during the developers absence in this thread.

Although you gave us some info, it wasn't enough for anyone to grasp the situation. If you look at the rest of the community's responses to my posts, you'll see that we continuously asked for more info, but all we got is the same  "We are testing new PoT implementation, bear with us" statement re-phrased multiple times.

There were some key questions which SyRenity managed to clear up :

Q : Why was the network put offline?

Quote
A : This was done as an emergency measure to avoid possible forks with the PoT stability issues that we have discovered, while we are working on a proper solution for them. The intended pause period was expected to be a day at most, however unfortunately re-working the PoT took much more time than planned, thus causing the extended delay.

Q : Was it stopped Intentionally? How can you stop a decentralized network Intentionally?

Quote
A : Foundation own nodes where stopped, which form for the moment the majority of Crypti network.
Naturally people running their own nodes are not affected by that, however the main services (exchanges, etc...) are working with Crypti nodes.
Once we get the Windows version out, we certainly looking for a change of this situation, where Foundation nodes are the minority.

Q : What will be the next version coming out 0.16D/0.17 and will the Windows Wallet be released?

Quote
A :  We will release the new 0.1.7 version (both Linux and Windows) to the wide circulation.

(Boris kept on saying that 0.16D would be coming out to fix bugs and 0.17 would come later with Windows Wallet in tow. We now have confirmed that the next release will be 0.17 not 0.16D and will contain the Windows Wallet

Q : Does this now mean that the network will remain down for however long this PoT fix takes, possibly weeks?

Quote
A : We are working to restore it to fully functional order as soon as possible, with the target to have it up and running within days.

Before SyRenity posted we barely knew why the network was down, let alone when it would be online again. He came and he answered most if not all of our questions, which is what we've been asking for the past 4 or so days.

like I said I believe you are very toxic for every coin you enter. I think you should be quiet if you want to "help your investment"

Instead of having the developers working hard on the code you rather have them come here to hold your hand and explain what other people on the team has already said over and over. To top it off, you try to spread fud in here too. Gratz man you get a clap on the shoulder from me.

What? getting things cleared up is helpful. this summery is very helpful. Thanks @wulf.

I deleted post since I don't want to waste time on this guy. I'll put my energy elsewhere. But you'll see

Are you still unhappy with the way our little discussion about the design contest ended? Let me break down your post and answer it section by section :

Quote
Instead of having the developers working hard on the code you rather have them come here to hold your hand

All I asked for, along with many other members of the community, was for a simple proper update that answered the questions we asked. SyRenity literally came in here and within 10 minutes answered all of our questions. Had that been done earlier you would've seen less anxious community members posting, thinking what the hell was going on.

Quote
explain what other people on the team has already said over and over

GreXX, kept us updated every now and then, but it was not until SyRenity cleared everything up that we fully knew what was going on, for info on what questions he answered see the above quoted post.

Quote

I have never once posted or spread FUD in this thread. I may have criticized the Crypti Team, sometimes eavily in the design department, but never once did I post FUD about them. I hope you do realize that there's a difference between FUD and criticism.

is there any set date yet for the official distribution?

Sometime in the next 3 days as BETA starts in September after being delayed in August.

I thought distribution was from the 15-22 October

Status update

First of all, I'd like to apologize for us not providing ongoing updates regarding the forging nodes being paused.
This was done as an emergency measure to avoid possible forks with the PoT stability issues that we have discovered, while we are working on a proper solution for them. The intended pause period was expected to be a day at most, however unfortunately re-working the PoT took much more time than planned, thus causing the extended delay.

Thanks the Foundation members who did their best communicating this to the community, while us being focused on the PoT.

The good news is that we done with the Pot re-implementation, and now running private tests before we deploy to testnet for Foundation and IRC members to give it a try. Provided it passes them, we will release the new 0.1.7 version (both Linux and Windows) to the wide circulation.

SyRenity, we have been hearing this line for the past few weeks. Does this now mean that the network will remain down for however long this takes, possibly weeks?

Was it stopped Intentionally? How can you stop a decentralized network Intentionally? is it decentralized?

Exactly, I don't see how the devs could have just stopped a live network to test new code. I don't even know why they are testing new code on a live network, but anyway...

All we've heard is that the devs are testing a new implementation of the PoT algorithm, but how that causes it to stop a live network, I have no clue whatsoever.

@Devs, we are waiting for a proper response to this.
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Crypti | XCR | Ͼ | 3 PoS algorithms | Ed25519 | 2nd Gen Source on: September 28, 2014, 06:04:01 PM
@ SyRenity & Boris

This is the 4th day now where there haven't been any blocks on the network. What is going on? The thing is you say that, this is due to the PoT forging "difficulty" between Windows & Linux, but that was a minor bug, which you could've fixed in a TestNet. How is it that it affects the main chain? Are you trying to fix the PoT forging on a live network? What is causing the blockchain to go 4 days without any blocks?

If you actually gave us a legitimate reason as to why the network is "down", then we would understand, but you guys have virtually said nothing through this whole period. GreXX and samsmith16 have been the only ones on here posting, and even then most people still don't know what's going on.

The rest of the team's lack of communication during this period has been downright terrible, it's as if you guys think that having the network down, without a single block in 4 days is no cause for worry. A tiny update at least would be nice

GreXX posted earlier today that the network is undergoing testing with new code, using different operating systems, different speeds, etc.

In other words, the mechanic is test driving your car after installing the new engine, so you have to wait a little longer for that trip to the mall.

The question then is, why is it being tested on a LIVE network. Testing such as that should be running in TestNet, never on the the live network. I really don't think they would be incompetent enough to stop a running network to test new code, when they could do the same in a TestNet. There must be some other reason for them to stop a live network.

I don't like the logos from 99desings, neither the last one.  Cry

I wasn't suggesting that the logo I posted above should be used at all, I was just trying to show the different fonts that could be used for it. Though I do think that it looks a ton better than the 99designs logo's.

The bottom line here is that the team excluding GreXX need to catch a wake-up in design. You guys got it lucky with your previous designer as he knew more or less what he was doing, Crypti the way it currently looks is a testament to that. GreXX is your creative designer and he's in charge of design and I know that no creative designer, given the appropriate amount of money, would post something as big as logo design on a "contest site".

As you all can see how terribly the community has reacted towards these designs, hopefully now you learn that you simply can't skimp on design. You guys have over 750 BTC, why don't you actually use it? Give GreXX the opportunity to hire a proper design team and get Crypti's branding done properly.

What I'm posting below is for the community to see. I've come up with an outlay for Crypti's whole design process, based on a $15 000 budget and a 2-month time frame. $15 000 is about 35 BTC at the current exchange rate, which is really not that much considering how big of an impact Crypti's branding will make.

STEP 1 : Establish Branding Guidelines

This whole step is about laying the framework for other designers. The way to do it is to create branding guidelines that other designers can follow. This helps establish a brand image and design style which other designers can continue. For this you would need to hire a branding specialist to design Crypti's brand image and design guidelines and create a design kit, which is basically a bundle of all branding design assets. The cost for this is around ~$3000 - $4000
The branding guidelines would be the logo, color palette used for design and defining the design style used for Crypti. It would be in the form of a write up such as these (Very Important Look at Links Below) :

http://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html#

https://www.behance.net/gallery/9028077/google-visual-assets-guidelines-part-1

https://www.behance.net/gallery/Google-Visual-Assets-Guidelines-Part-2/9084309

This is by far the most important process, as it will be the foundation for the rest of Crypti's design. With these guidelines any designer can create designs that match the rest of Crypti's design aesthetic.

STEP 2 : Main Website Development

Now that you have your branding guidelines established and design foundation set, you can move onto your website. For this you hire a specialist Web development and design team. You provide them with your brand/design guidelines and they design and code a site that matches Crypti's branding guidelines, it's a pretty straightforward process. The cost for this is around ~$4000

STEP 3 : Wallet UI Redesign

Now that the website is completed, the next step is the new Wallet UI. For this you'll need to hire a UI/UX designer and simply provide him/her with the design guidelines from Step 1. The designer will put together some mockups for you and once you approve a final version, will finish and export the design. The cost for this is around ~$5000

All of the designers I've provided will fit into the allocated budget for each step, I would know as I've asked for quotes on design work in the past (where I needed to work with other designers). Now I want, you, the community to take a look at the designers' work here and compare it to the types of design that we saw on 99designs. You'll notice a HUGE difference in quality.

@Devs, I have provided multiple possible designers to choose for each stage, as well as a plan itself to help you guys get through the whole process. The ball is now in your half of the court, the community wants to see better designs.

@Community, if any of you want to see Crypti's logo and branding to be on par with the work done by the designers above, then post "We want better designs!"

Here's one I made.  I prefer simplicity.

That's actually not half bad, heck of a lot better than the ones on 99designs.  Just I think it looks better inverted, currently it reminds me a bit of a re-cycle logo Tongue

Current logo.

Logo Update

While you are waiting patiently, help us narrow down our Logo contest entries to a winner! We have moved on to the finalists round and created a poll out of some of our favorite options and we would like your opinion on the current choices.

Please view the poll and entires here: https://99designs.com/logo-design/vote-m1000k

We would love to hear your feedback. Keep in mind we will be making the final choice, but we would love to hear your thoughts!

GreXX, to be honest, none of them really look that great. The fonts used in a lot of them are either too bland or simply unprofessional. #52, looks the most professional, but it's very bland and doesn't really relate to Crypti all that much. #47 by afterclouds, stands out more but the font used in it in't that grand.

Well we are in the tailoring phase to help them improve the designs so we can pick a finalist. These are the kinds of things we can tweak now that we have ideas of the look.

I cant vote becasue there is not a "NONE OF THE ABOVE" choice.  Can you add one?

I simply don't get it.
from the blog post: "We will add the link here and post it in the BTT Thread as soon as we open the contest. "
I've inquired myself for this link couple of times, then when finally got a response it ignored the ongoing contest.
Please note that I do not care about the contest prize, or the glory of contributing my skills. I've invested my own free time. I didn't expect much, but one can clearly see I put some efforts. So a nice "completely off course, please fuck off" PM could be nice.

Those choices you got there are typical 99 designs style, not in the good way.
stylized≠professional. sorry those are amateurish ready made concepts. If you are the ones that need to give those guys ideas how to make them better, I hope your design skills are good.

Totally agree. What I don't get is that you guys have over 750 BTC, which as you said you intend to use within one year, but you revert to a cheap freelance site for your designs, where you pay at max $ 250 for a bunch of horrible designs.

I know that GreXX is your creative designer, and he would have asked for more of a budget, but to the rest of the team, what does it take you to realise how much of an impact design actually makes.

Okay, as I mentioned earlier I didn't really like any of the new logo designs. I've adapted the current logo to create the one below, if you notice the "C" has been edited slightly to look less chunky. I've kept the Crypti font as I really like it and I've tried to keep the same color scheme as the current one. So just to show you guys what I mean, here it is :

#Take note I didn't have access to the actual font used in the current logo, I had to re-create it in Illustrator so that's why the fonts may look a bit jagged and rough. Also I just re-did this in about 10 minutes so the quality isn't all that good, when i have more time I'll redo it proper.

So you think #52 is "bland" but not our current logo or the one you just posted? What is your definition of bland?

I think Crypti's current logo, suits Crypti a lot better than #52.

#52 is what you call a generic design.  It doesn't relate to Crypti in any way, it has a font that is very similar to other widely used fonts, and the color's used in it are from a "general" color palette. What this all means is that #52 is a design that can be applied to any brand, wheter it be a food brand, bank, newspaper etc. It's not tailor-made for Crypti, I wouldn't be surprised if the designer who posted this design also uses it for another contest.

I agree that this is a major issue - it looks as if Crypti is in trouble.

You can't shut down the transfer ability of a network whose only function is to transfer information (for three days at that!). Delays, in my opinion, are expected and fine - especially if the team is extensively testing the upcoming features. This, however, is more severe - here the technical ability of the team is coming into question... I would not cash out even if I could, but my confidence in the team is the lowest it has been so far.

Hope Crypti pulls through!

So noone can transfer any Crypti anywhere since few days. That is not healthy for the project.

@ SyRenity & Boris

Could you please give us an update on this? I don't mean to be harsh, but all we've heard is that things will improve soon and the new version will fix all the syncing bugs. The problem is that the "new version" has been around the corner for a couple of weeks new along with the Windows Wallet. That isn't a problem though, the problem, is that we haven't had a single block in close to 3 days and we've heard almost zero technical details about the issue itself.

Not having a single block in over 3 days is a MAJOR issue, it means that no funds can be sent through the network, and 3 days without a block is a long time in the crypto-community (I know how cliche that sounds but it's true). Please give us some technical details about the matter, all we know at the moment is that you guys are making modifications to the PoT forging mechanism.

The key thing to note here, is that we are fine with delays, but what essentially has happened here is that the network has been virtually shutdown for over 3 days. We are all well aware of the fact that Crypti is new software, and there will no doubt be bugs, but you can't go for days with the network at a standstill. Please give us a bit more insight into the problem.
