2621  Other / Off-topic / Re: HOW CAN I GET SOME MERIT POINTS ? on: September 03, 2018, 10:22:04 PM
Why to you want browny points?

Says the guy with the most points in the thread.  Cheesy

For all others who are looking for their first points, I'd suggest going where the old timers hang out. They're the ones with 1000s of merit points at their disposal. Those who don't have 'em can't give 'em.

The Wall Observer thread is a good place to start. While it's a bit of a trollbox and often quite off-topic, it's also the heart and soul of Bitcointalk and the unofficial hangout of old school Bitcoin HODLers. In fact it's the place where GameHyuubi first drunkenly coined the term HODL.

If you wade through the BS and look past the silly charts and GIFs you might learn a bit. If you post something they deem worthwhile, you might be surprised at how the merits flow. Just don't spread BS yourself or try fishing for merits. They'll be on to you like that.

Starting unnecessary new threads is not a way to get merits. Posting new links to topical news or other websites and adding new insights to existing discussions are excellent ways to get merits.

Remember, it's the quality of the post that counts.

Maximum money is at 50 years old i think.

Maybe for wage-slave employees. For those who have money work for them, 50 is just the beginning.
2623  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hodlers are unscrupulous parasites. Here's why on: September 03, 2018, 07:56:00 PM
what the OP is talking about is not HODLers.. but fiat investors.

HODLers hold and want to keep bitcoin.. HODLers can even spend bitcoin. but they then get more bitcoin because they want to stay with bitcoin as their main currency.. what they have as their assets is majority bitcoin and not much fiat. and they dont wish to hold fiat..

but those only looking for a great time to exit bitcoin and be fiat rich are not HODLers

i think insulting HODLers is wrong. call what your describing by its real term and insult them.. FIAT LOVERS

Bang on.

I consider myself a hoLDer (with apologies to GameKyuubi). I hold Bitcoin not to cash out into fiat, but to continuing to hold as many coins as possible.

I buy whenever I can get a good price, be it from a market dip, or an OTC buying opportunity. I spend only as necessary, and then by buying fiat only if there's no other way. When I bought a house in Mexico last January, I paid about half in cash and half in Bitcoin. Too bad my dental surgeon won't take Bitcoin. I'll be forced to sell some coin(s?) in November to pay for my implants. Hopefully I can do it with the coins I bought this summer.

Being a hoLDer since the days of double digits, I've obviously done OK for myself but I'm still looking forward to possible serious wealth in the future. That wealth won't be in the form of fiat currency though. It will be in Bitcoin.

I didn't get into Bitcoin originally as an investment, it just turned out that way. I got into it after a friend first told me about Silk Road. It wasn't the availability of contraband that fascinated me. It was the weird cryptographic money they used.

I was already a big fan of decentralization and peer-to-peer networking. When I first heard of Napster, it wasn't the free music that interested me. It was the concept of file sharing. I watched as file sharing slowly became less and less centralized, first though Kazaa and Limewire, then Bit Torrent, then Magnet links and multiply redundant cloud-based trackers.

I watched as Wikipedia went from being one of the least dependable sources of information to being one of the best. The site itself may be centralized but the content is not. It is provided and vetted by a worldwide decentralized community of volunteers. Any bullshit is quickly called and removed. If there is any controversy, we hear both sides of the story.

This is what I call the real New World Order. It includes open-source software, crowd funding, and anything else that's not under central control but controlled by the citizens of the global village. Its money is Bitcoin.

Bitcoin HODLers (there I said it) aren't the problem. Fiat lovers are.

A slightly late good morning Bitcoinland.

I see we touched $7.2k... currently $7190USD/$9380CAD.

Hopefully we've seen the last of sub-$7k. I still think the bottom was in last time it went under $6k.

Onward and upward. We've certainly had all the buying opportunity we need. Time to earn some profit.

The trick is to have the money come to you. I believe it was Warren Buffett who said that if you're not making money while you sleep, you'll work your whole life.

I like this part, and it sounds good in theory while remaining difficult in practice.. unless you prepare for a decent amount of time to get to that stage of passive income... and living within your means... if your passive income increases, then your means can increase too.

That, living within your means is a big part of it. Losers spend their money before they earn it. They take on mortgages and buy merchandise on time. They're losing money while they sleep paying compound interest.

Those who skimp on luxuries, hold off on buying things they don't absolutely need, and invest their money in things that earn more money are already compounding in their own way. When you must buy something, buy high-quality used stuff cheap.
2626  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 29, 2018, 09:40:58 PM
Being rich is having money: being wealthy is having time

Time and money are negotiable.

Too many people waste their time chasing money. Others waste their money trying to buy a little time.

I try to get ahead by trading cheap city dollars for cheap jungle time. Money comes easily here but time is always short. Down there there's lots of time but little money. When I go down I take money. When I come back I'm re-energized by the time I bought down there. That's what traders have always done, transport commodities to where there's more demand.

The trick is to have the money come to you. I believe it was Warren Buffett who said that if you're not making money while you sleep, you'll work your whole life.

More on ass eating:

It seems that ass you're going down on might be a fox.

What colour is yours?

Green and orange.

...now I once again hear that nagging evil feeling that I should sell and take profit and stop being such a greedy bastard...

There's nothing wrong with taking profit. Just why do it in fiat? Keeping your profits in Bitcoin makes more sense.

Sure, by all means live a little,  buy yourself a treat or toy or something, but keep the bulk of your profits where they'll continue to earn money.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Nice to be back over $7k... currently $7087USD/$9150CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Dog days almost over?

I'm new here. Why does this thread have 21,000 pages? All I see is random charts and pictures of cute animals.

Because:

This thread is the spice of Bitcointalk.
2631  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 24, 2018, 03:07:40 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Flat as a pancake... currently $6514USD/$8502CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Right where we were a week ago. Ho hum.

What do the Wall St Observer guys think of this?

https://medium.com/@super.crypto1/4th-dimension-bitcoin-manipulation-cartel-can-it-be-burnt-no-way-c53de65c166a

Bitcoin being suppressed by cartel

Great read. Thanx for the link.

This thread is basically now 100% DERP.

I temporarily lose IQ points reading this gibberish.

Worst thing about corrective bear markets: derp.

I know what you mean.

2633  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 22, 2018, 03:48:03 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Nice leg up last night... currently $6654USD/$8670CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Looks like solid support at $6k.

Classic. Life of the wage/debt slave:

Week days: bed-> car-> cubicle-> car-> couch-> bed

Saturdays: bed-> lawnmower-> car-> mall-> car-> couch-> bed

Sundays: bed-> couch-> bed

Get a life!

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Not much to say. Sideways is sideways... currently $6457USD/$8442CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Oh, the dog days of August. Kinda reminds me of Aug 2013 or Aug 2015.
2635  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 15, 2018, 11:19:20 PM
Jeez, I remember Notlambchop.  That guy had issues.  Also ShroomsKit from around the same time, if not before.  The trolling back then was way more entertaining and didn't seem as racist or xenophobic.  Or maybe I just got less tolerant with age.

Actually the original Shroomskit wasn't all that bad. I think a troll bought his account.

Other hilarious trolls from the past included Proudhon the comedian, the ever-cynical ElectricMucus, and the dual-personality Jaroslaw with his alter-ego (though he claimed no connection) Walsoraj. Fun times.

I almost forgot the pathetic Kwukduck. Still good for a laugh.

I can overlook a little racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia or other political incorrectness. The idiots who spew that crap just make themselves look bad.

Where I draw the line is personal attacks such as commonly used by NLC and MTC. Also NLC's constant pedophilia references and posting of geriatric porn images were a little too much.

This can be a fun place but it does tend to bring out the scumbags too.
2636  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 15, 2018, 10:41:00 PM
I actually do not have anybody on my ignore list So

My list......
.....

At least I have an ignore list, but it's just 2 names...

Notlambchop

Matthecat.

Oops, I guess I'm a little out of date.

Actually, a lot of the posters on other people's ignore lists can be entertaining at times, just occasionally tedious and boring. Even our resident gold-

(and silver)-bug bigot isn't as obnoxious with personal attacks as the 2 above were.

Instead of putting people on my ignore list, I keep a mental do-not-feed-the-trolls list.

Good morning Bitcoinland. Long time no see.

Got flooded last week and I've been busy cleaning up and sorting out the water-damaged from the salvageable. Barely got to take off enough time for a dinner date and concert on Saturday. ZZ Top blew away both 38 Special and the tribute band calling themselves Lynyrd Skynyrd (only 1 original member).

While we've had a few ups and downs over the past week we're still pretty much where we were a week ago... currently $6475USD/$8530CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Hopefully we're back on the rise again. I wanna see at least 5 digits by the time I have to sell some coin in November to pay for my next round of dental surgery in Mexico.

Go Bitcoin go.

2638  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 06, 2018, 11:52:28 PM
There's no easy solution and personal security in cryptolandia (we talking about bitcoin, right?) remains an evolving target.

Even printers are now a vector to attack your computer through. HP is releasing firmware patches for vulnerabilities in its printers.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/08/03/hp_printer_malware/

Old news.

My printer has only ever been connected to PCs without internet access and then only through an actual cable. If there's no ethernet cable and no wifi card there's no way to get in.

People get lazy and complacent and leave themselves vulnerable. Everything about paper wallets being the most secure form of cold storage goes out the window if you're careless about leaving images of private keys lying about.

I think print-spooler buffers have been a target for years.

For certain purposes it's necessary to determine the logical cross-bearings of the concepts which we take for granted. But honestly, is there a single not obvious thing in here. You really thought I needed a reintroduction to basic financial literacy by way of cringe-y homespun wisdoms?

Now I'm even more morose!

Geeze. Sorry about that. I didn't mean to bum you out.

I'll admit the writing style is a little "cringe-y and homespun" but it left me feeling happy after reading it.

Maybe xhomerx10's suggestion will work better.

My sister bought me a book by Mark Manson recently.

I think it would be a good supplemental read when you finish with Jimbo's suggestion.

You mean this one?

http://v1x0r.com/downloads/Books/SelfHelp/The%20Subtle%20Art%20of%20Not%20Giving%20a%20Fck.pdf

Thanx. I just grabbed the PDF. Will read.
