2721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They will try to stop Bitcoin on: November 12, 2021, 10:09:57 AM
This is sad news if it actually get through parliament. The European Union is trying to be more eco friendly with their energy usage. Which is a good thing. There is a huge shift towards renewable energy sources and away from fossil fuels. So why go after crypto currencies now, wouldn't it be fine if crypto currencies are being mined from ecological friendly energy? High energy usage is one thing, but there are much better places to try and reduce energy consumption. We can't live in a world where we don't use any energy. I really hope the EU is not moving towards a crypto ban.
2722  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: Corona on: November 12, 2021, 09:43:06 AM

https://www.tagesspiegel.de/wissen/globaler-wettkampf-um-ein-mittel-gegen-covid-19-die-streng-geheimen-foerdermittel-fuer-den-coronavirus-impfstoff/25848586.html

@Mauser
https://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/whistleblowerin-berichtet-von-datenfaelschungen-wurde-bei-einer-studie-zum-biontech-pfizer-impfstoff-geschlampt/27768504.html

2723  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs. Bitcoin on: November 10, 2021, 10:06:19 AM
Owning real estate and owning bitcoins are two very different things. With bitcoins we have an asset that will likely rise in the future and can make us profits in the form of selling them again, but there is no monthly rent we can collect. With a property that is rented out we are getting money each month, but also need to pay some bills. The chance of appreciation in the property market is not guaranteed and depends heavily on the location. In both assets there are risk involved, for example there could be damages in the property and we need to renovate it. This could ruin our profit for many years.
Most of us here on the forum agree that owning a mix of real estate and cryptos is the best approach. If we already have a property in the family that is paid for and we just need to manage it than of course keep it. But let's say we only have 20,000 USD to spare right now. For this money we could make a decent investment in the crypto market, but we will not get any real estate for that money. Only with large amounts of debt we could afford to buy something, which is very risky in my opinion. I prefer bitcoins to real estate.
2724  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Gedankenexperiment! Bitcoin Kurs in der Zukunft! on: November 10, 2021, 09:57:36 AM

2725  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What would you think of Meta (Facebook) allowing bets in the metaverse on: November 10, 2021, 09:36:30 AM
Just changing the name of Facebook into meta won't be doing much if they don't try and change their image as well. Going into new sectors might be attracting new customers if they haven't been involved with Facebook before. Betting might be one of those areas to get new social media market shares. The question is what is the target group of Zuckerberg now. Does he want to be more active in the 20+ age group or does he want to focus on the younger geverstions. Facebook is more for the older generations, whereas Instagram focuses on all age groups except for kids. For a social media company to remain on top its crucial to involve the younger generations. Betting might be a big counterproductive here because the parents could become afraid of their kids to lose money with betting. Using the current market share to get into gambling is one way to boost profits, or try and increase the market share by engaging more people in social media.
2726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a chance for Bitcoin Recovery? on: November 10, 2021, 08:56:38 AM
It's very astonishing how well we can track the scammers and where the funds went. Via IP adresses there might be a chance to find out where the scammers come from and maybe even a name or company behind. But only if they are based in a country with a strong legal framework there would be a chance to get the money back. If the hackers are based in China or Russia I don't think we have a chance to get the money back. Also the coins where transferred very quickly, so going to the exchange and claiming that we got hacked won't help much.
I find it very sad that there are still so many scammers out there in 2021 and we have almost no chance of getting our money back. There needs to be a some kind of international supervision on the Internet that helps people who lost money. A Internet police that fights back against these criminal would be awesome. If every country just gives a few million than there could easily be some independent international agency that tracks scammers and hackers and works with national police to get them arrested. The world today is probably too divided to get it done.
2727  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Time To Invest In Low Prices Alt Coins. on: November 09, 2021, 07:52:47 AM
Quite interesting to see that most people here go for shit coins. I had the same idea, if there is a new meme like we had in the past with doge coin than there is huge upside potential. There are other good alt coins out there but making returns like shitcoins did in the past is hard to beat.
As for bitcoins I think we can buy them any time, there is no perfect time to buy them. Sure if you managed to get bitcoins below 10,000 USD then it's awesome, but now waiting for prices to drop so far down again is not realistic. The long term trend of bitcoins is upwards. Once we reach the 100,000 USD mark buying at current levels was a good deal again.
2728  Economy / Economics / Re: What's the best advice? on: November 09, 2021, 07:44:13 AM
With the way crypto world is going now and everything is techy futuristic what advice would you give your children when growing up?

Gaming as we know it can now give you monthly payments and as a parent would you allow your kids to get into this just for the money making? To be honest kids are more good at gaming

As parent I would want my kids to be happy and do things they enjoy. Gaming seems to be a big part of today's generation and that is fine. The interaction kids have with each other in today's world seems to be normal with Discord and Twitch. If my kids are good at gaming I would encourage them to go into streaming. There can be made a lot of money on YouTube and Twitch, even if it is just being done part time while at university or in the evenings after work.

As for crypto currencies, I think it's normal to engaged with them in today's world. Growing up and not knowing what cryptos are is not an option anymore. Even my grandmother has heard of Bitcoin before. That is why I would not gift my kids fiat currency when they grow up but rather make a crypto wallet for them. This will force them to get used to crypto currencies no matter what. And when you already own something you get much more interested.
2729  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Never Be in a hurry on: November 09, 2021, 07:30:54 AM
This is a good reminder for all of us, never trade in a hurry. The market offers us opportunities every day, thinking that we need to react quickly of we will lose is just in our head. There is no need to rush a trade, better to be absolutely sure we are doing the right trade. Even if prices move and we missed out on an opportunity we shouldn't feel bad. That's the beauty of the crypto market, there will always be another chance.
Another thing is that crypto currencies like many other assets tend to move in cycles. So if we want to buy a particular coin for a certain price than we just wait for the prices to come back. Acting in a hurry is usually based on emotions rather than critical thinking. When it comes to trading a good strategy is important.
2730  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do spectators now know better? on: November 09, 2021, 07:04:31 AM

-Is there a possibility that spectators of a sport like you and i with no professional training can develop a better understanding of a sport than some professional coaches of some teams?

I would definitely say yes, hardcore sport fans know everything about a team and will question often the decision of the coach. Good fans know the strength and weaknesses of all players and would be able to coach a team for a game. The difference between the coach and the fan is that it's the job of the coach do make decisions everyday. Being able to manage a team through the whole season is a tough job. It's hard to live with so much competition in the top football leagues, there is not much room for error. I don't think that the average fan would be able to be coach for a long period of time.
As a spectator it always easier to comment on a game after it, we know what went wrong and had more time to think about it. For the coach he has to make such kind of decision within minutes and he doesn't have all the information yet. If a player is having a bad day the coach could substitute him, but what if another player gets injured and he used all his substitute slots before? There is also the problem of favouritism, a coach might have a stronger bond with a certain player and will use him even if he is not performing 100%. Such decision will make the fans very angry if the team loses the game.
2731  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Strategies changes with time on: November 08, 2021, 12:58:11 PM
Trading Strategies are not constant , it changes with time. If we think the particular method we were taught in the early stages during trading will still work for the market over time, we may keep on losing because the market changes with time. One particular strategy of trading can't be use all the time.

It depends a bit on what kind of strategy you are following. If you are looking at short term trading with the goal of taking advantages in market inefficiencies, then you are right. There are many traders out there who looking to make a profit, every strategy that works well will attract others to copy it. It's just a matter of time for the higher demand to move prices against us and make a strategy not profitable anymore. These strategies I would say are usually based on technical analysis, trying to find trends in the price movement that will continue in the future. But if we are looking at more fundamental based strategy I think they are more consistent in the future. A solid crypto project with many investors today will not just disappear overnight. A very good indicator for me is looking at past success, if coins where successful in the past its likely they will keep remaining the same if nothing changed.
2732  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Gedankenexperiment! Bitcoin Kurs in der Zukunft! on: November 08, 2021, 12:43:40 PM
2733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to my bitcoin if I die today? on: November 08, 2021, 08:47:34 AM
That's a very difficult question. Like you said yourself with cryptos it is all about privacy and security. There are so many scammers and hackers out there that storing our information openly so our loved ones can find it is not an option, the security risk is just too high. There are two issues here, first we need to store the actual password and seed to access the wallet and secondly we probably need to give a manual for our loved ones how to actual access the coins. Giving access while we are still alive might not be the best idea because they could just take some coins if they need money.
The two savest ways would be to store all the information in a bank private box or with a lawyer if we make our will. If we have other important things to store than a private box at a bank would be the best approach. In the case of our death our loved ones would be contacted and they can access the box. It won't be a free service but depending on the size of our portfolio it's an important thing to do.
2734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 8 reasons to start playing blockchain games on: November 08, 2021, 08:26:00 AM
I would like to give it a try with the games you recommended here. When it comes to games I am the best at shooters, jump and run is not really my thing. Still pretty new to the blockchain games and just wonder how profitable you can be with the games. As a newbie will you not the be losing money in the beginning? I know that in CSGO there are some sites where you can earn skins if you play on their dedicated sites. Unfortunately there is a lot of randomness involved in which skins are valuable and which aren't, so the profits can be very high or just be 3 cents. A bigger problem I faced is that there are a lot of smurf accounts. Very good players who make alt accounts just to get matched again against beginners and then completely dominate the game. Are there similar issues on blockchain games?
2735  Economy / Economics / Re: Fuel prices hitting an eight year high on: November 08, 2021, 08:08:02 AM
Fuel prices together with grocery prices are the most direct way the consumers feel the rising inflation. We all see the prices at the gas station change each week. But its not only fuel prices that are at so high levels, its all type of energy prices. Economist say it was just a matter of time for energy prices to rise. This winter will be very interesting because it could get very cold and people will need more fuel and heating. The big problem I see in my country is that wages are not rising together with higher living costs. The big fuel companies and OPEC don't care about the average consumer, for them it's all about their bottomline. The higher prices could easily be offset by increasing production but for them it's about maximising profits. Unfortunately we don't have any choice, during winter there is no chance to take the bike or walk when it's freezing and raining outside. We are stuck with the prices at the gas station and have no alternative. Officially there is no fuel monopoly, but the prices at all the gas stations are pretty much the same.
2736  Economy / Economics / Re: Firefighters pension fund invests 25$ million in crypto on: November 07, 2021, 05:13:26 PM

Do you agree news like this have a positive impact or are they indifferent in your opinion?

I really hope that news like this have a positive impact on the crypto market. It's another asset manager that goes for the crypto market. Like you said yourself, 0.45% of their assets is not a lot to invest in crypto. For them it's probably just a form of tail risk management. If crypto markets keep rising than they are invested and will profit of it. And its another way to get rid of your access cash. Most of these large investment funds have fixed limits of how much money they can invest in stocks and bonds. So going for cryptos can be a way to get around such restrictions.
25m is not a lot for the crypto market, the direct effect on the prices should be marginal to indefferent. But there is a longterm effect as well, all the other asset managers and pension funds will read about this move and face some dilemma now. Should the consider investing themselves or not. If the fund will make a good profit of their crypto holdings the other funds who didn't buy any will look very bad.
2737  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I fail in trading on: November 07, 2021, 05:02:10 PM
Losing money in trading is part of the game, everybody who trades for long enough will have a bad week, a bad month. It's like with everything else in life, there will be good and there will be bad days. What is important for a trader is how we deal with our failures. Losing money is painful and should be avoided as much as possible. But if it does happen we need to be very critical about it. We can make the right trading decision but be unlucky about the timing. Before selling any position and realise our loss it's important to evaluate our position. Maybe instead of selling quickly we can just hold our position for another few weeks and make back our loss without trading. That is why we should judge our success or failure on a longer time period. Looking at our profits every day can be misleading. Better make averages across all our trades and see how well we did this year or last year. Also it is important that if we take a loss and sell our position that we realise what actually went wrong, maybe there was a problem in our decision making that we can correct.

2739  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Gambling increase due to the pandemic, stats, UK on: November 07, 2021, 10:48:33 AM
I would expect that the gambling activities in other countries also increased during the pandemic. A few of my friends who never really where big gamblers in the past started to play poker and other casino games online during the lockdown. There are a few factors which helped the casinos boom in the last two years in my opinion. First of all a lot of outdoor activities where cancelled, together with bars and restaurants being closed, made it very hard to relax after work when you are stuck at home all day. Just watching TV every evening is too boring and doesn't make me enjoy my evenings. Personally I also started signing up at new casinos since the corona crisis. I miss going  to a real casino and enjoy the atmosphere.
Another factor that fueled the casino boom is the pandemic and its negative economic impact, many people lost their jobs and financial security became a big question again. Having something like gambling where we have a chance to win a lot of money can provide some sort of comfort and relief. Even if we never manage to win big, just by having the chance to get millions we can dream again. It feels like every month there is a new extra high lottery jackpot attracting more abs more people. The only sad part is if the number of people who are addicted to gambling will also rise.
2740  Economy / Speculation / Re: What make people panic sell? on: November 07, 2021, 10:33:52 AM
We humans are herding animals, we like to be in groups and follow each other. Our ideas need to be validated by others, nobody likes to be alone with his ideas. The confirmation we seek either comes through friends and family who encourage us or through the news. Reading positive or negative news have a huge impact on our decision making. That is why the sudden panic sells are so devastating, once a large enough group of traders start dumping their coins it is going to affect a lot of other traders. These events are not rational, it's pure emotions that take over and make us run for the door. Withstanding a panic sell requires a good stomach because nobody wants to be left without a seat when the music stops. As soon as there is a big drop in prices I find myself also struggling with the idea of selling my coins. Even if I still believe in it, my brain tells me to sell now and just buy them back at a later stage for cheaper. The problem is that we don't know when the floor will be reached, with the last crash BTC dropped down to 30,000 USD, but who knew it wouldn't go down to 20 or 10,000? The risk with the panic sell is that we have to rebuy at a later stage for much more.
