281  Other / Off-topic / Re: The pirate ponzi fiasco on: August 30, 2012, 04:39:28 AM
I noticed that some people communicated with Pirate using PGP-encrypted messages, which is smart.

Ah, so you're already reading the pms.  Good to know.
282  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: centralized post of pirate payouts-It is over. Pirate@scammer admits default on: August 30, 2012, 02:05:30 AM
It seems I can't log onto #btcst anymore.

It isn't anything personal, you need to be registered with freenode's nickserv to join.  They've been having trouble with flooding as of late.
283  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Hashkings Lending,Deposit 1.25% INSURED, ALL PPT ACCOUNTS CLOSING ON 8/19 on: August 30, 2012, 01:07:13 AM
The deadline for submitting the PPT information requested will be Thursday 10pm CDT.  Thanks.

oh c'mon... Big Brother is that night.. How about 11pm?
284  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: August 29, 2012, 05:49:41 PM
Does anyone know what the situation is with pirate as a "partner" in gpumax?
I presume it's possible one of the other devs could take away enough info to set up a clone elsewhere...

AFAIK, zux is the real person behind gpumax as far as dev goes.  But then again, I could be completely wrong. I seem to be good at that lately.
285  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: August 29, 2012, 03:51:41 PM

For the record, I consider gpumax a better credit risk than BS&T - hell, if it does default surely someone can set up a clone.

CoinLab seems to be halfway there.
286  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Its Official Pirate Has Defaulted!! on: August 29, 2012, 03:50:04 PM
It doesn't need to be repeated.

Class act.
287  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk.org Privacy Question on: August 29, 2012, 02:57:53 PM
Thank you all for the help. I am starting to understand how it works around here.

Nothing to do with this site in particular - any Forum that uses a DB (and are there any that don't?) will always have the entire history of anything stored in the DB in the DB log (this is how DB's that support ACID tx's work).

Even if the log is truncated after every backup it is common practice to backup the current log along with the DB so that if all backups have been kept then it is always possible to do a complete rebuild of the DB from an initial DB and all the backed up logs.

That will depend on how long the backups are kept as well.  If its only a rolling 4 weeks, for example, and the logs are also truncated after 4 weeks, realistically, there's a 2 month window.
288  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 29, 2012, 02:17:47 PM
One approach to the "who owns how many shares" challenge, (I may suggest this to Nefario if he doesn't already have something else in the works):

- Allow an asset Owner to generate a "certificate" for a number of shares. Which then become "locked" in their account.
- They can unlock the shares at any time, which would invalidate the certificate.
- The asset Owner can then distribute a public key for the certificate, allowing someone else to verify they own the certified number of shares
- If at any time the certificate becomes invalid, any "subscribers" to the certificate, would be notified. (And it would show as invalid in the web interface).

This way if someone here for example wanted a seat on the board, they could email a request to the Issuer, who in turn requests a verification certificate for 5000 shares. They respond with a public key. Then the Issuer can use the public key to subscribe to  the certificate, and issue board member status accordingly. If the user decided to liquidate their shares they could do so without any "delay" but the Issuer would be notified immediately that the certificate had been invalidated.

This allows validation of share ownership, and it also allows maintaining privacy of the shareholders.

Very nice.

Hopefully

and yet they still haven't given him the scammer tag.  Huh WTF !!!

There are still some very reasonable people who think he'll pay back most/all of the BTC. If he loses both Matthew's bet and Vandroiy's bet and he hasn't at least started a reasonable repayment plan, I'll give him the scammer tag. (It's only symbolic at this point, anyway -- no one's going to be tricked into trading with someone involved in such a high-profile controversy.)

Passthrough operators will not get scammer tags unless they broke explicit contracts.

happens and then

BTW, the forum has lots of good IP addresses logged for pirateat40 (he never used Tor) and 4077 PMs to/from him. This should help the investigation. I'd prefer to release this stuff privately to police, though I may release it publicly in a few months if no police officers contact me about it.

won't be needed.
290  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pirate accomplices on: August 29, 2012, 12:27:46 AM
Yeah, because the only bump he hit was that far into it... until just that point, he didn't need to adjust inflows of capital at all. Oh and is his completely legitimate enterprise still offering compounding interest while shutting down? That's the most mind boggling part, he admits he doesn't have the BTC to pay it all out yet doesn't announce interest of 0%.

What's with putting your text above the quote?

Pirate did at one point pay interest every 3 days instead of 7.

alright so just deal with it basically.

who's working on new forum software?

lulz

Huge update, more stalling:

[22:45] <gribble> pirateat40 was last seen in #btcst 5 hours, 14 minutes, and 26 seconds ago: <pirateat40> EskimoBob, no one wants it over faster.

the suspense is killing me.

It's getting better:

Code:
<pirateat40> Notice:  If you are a PPT operator please contact me via PM.  Thanks

And when was this supposedly posted?  I don't see it on #btcst anywhere.

Check the topic out Wink
293  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Putting your money where Pirate's mouth is. on: August 28, 2012, 10:04:06 PM
A default will be construed to have occurred, if at any time prior to October 1 2013, 00.01 UTC, BTCST will be late by at least 14 calendar days, in disbursing either any regularly-scheduled interest payment, or any withdrawal request, by a valid account holder of BTCST.

The last regularly-scheduled interest payments went out on Monday 13th August.  So the payments that were due on Monday 20th August are currently 8 days late, and will be 14 days late on Monday 3rd September.

I don't know the date of the earliest unpaid withdrawal request.  Perhaps that's where the date of September 1st comes from.

Aye.  Its the first withdrawal that is the earliest deadline.

The suspense!!!
295  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 28, 2012, 08:27:00 PM

Do you think this address is plausible?
https://blockchain.info/charts/balance?address=1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM

It's cashed out about 220,000BTC since the collapse.

NO!

The user controlling that address is not pirate40!

Angry

1)  really?  seems like it

2)  any proof it's not?

I actually asked Maged about this earlier but haven't heard back yet.

A few weeks ago, I secured a place with friedcat's ASICminer.  I have BFL hardware, but I'd prefer to not keep my eggs all in one basket so to speak.  I'm continuing to research additional areas of expansion. Availability update coming shortly.

You all are dumber than a box of fraking hammers.

One:
No rich idiots exist that buy 10% over price.  Period.  Certainly not enough to move 500K BTC a week every week into perpetuity.

You're already missing it.

OK, so what is it? I'm honestly curious about what wrinkle turns the madness D&T describes into a totally winning business plan. What's to lose? Pirate's shutting down anyway, and even though many continue to deny it was ever a Ponzi scheme, you know that hope is fading every day.

Scroll back a few pages where someone asked me the same question and I replied.

You talked about OTC trading with 5% margins on both sides, and then some whales came in.  Please don't assume I'm Micon--I read these threads.

What did D&T get wrong?

No, after that...

Dear elux:

I'm pretty sure Maged knows what he's talking about on that part. But still, I don't understand if people have data, why don't they share it. I mean, you guys are asking for proof of pirate business, but you don't provide much on your part either.
I wish that they would, but I'm not authorized to.
300  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pirate accomplices on: August 28, 2012, 05:29:59 AM
I'm a little late to the conversation here, but I've done a considerable amount of reading on this matter over the last few days.  Frankly, I've yet to see any substantial information on pirate's business model posted anywhere.  I've seen many who claimed they knew what pirate was doing, but nobody provided any specifics (for the typical dubious reasons).  The most detailed info on pirate's op I've been able to find is in this post:

You didn't find shit.  It was in this thread about a page up.  I've already offered my guesses as to whats going on in other threads.  If you're so lazy that you want me to do the work for you, I couldn't be half assed.  My job isn't to defend pirate.  My post history is freely available and I'm sure within the last 10 pages you can find something that'll suit your fancy that you can properly distort.

I've been a pretty decent sport about answering questions as neutrally as possible and all I get for it is a bunch of trolling and people insulting my intelligence.  It isn't much encouragement to continue the dialogue.
