241  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pirate wants to settle with individuals for less. Don't let him do it. on: August 31, 2012, 05:22:51 AM
I think PPT operators should bear in mind that if they choose to negotiate with pirate on behalf of their investors, they'll probably be leaving themselves wide open to liability if the investors are not happy with the outcome or if they do not vigorously pursue any and all means possible to recover their investors' money, up to and including taking legal action against pirate.  I'd strongly suggest that the PPT operators seek legal advice regarding their own position should they advise their clients not to deal with pirate directly.

I don't think PPT operators are even considering such a thing. What we're seeing though is outright -blockage- of client information. Chaang Noi is refusing to allow his own clients to contact Pirate even if they -want- to. That's going to make calling my bet a bit difficult to say the least, if everyone got paid except Chaang Noi's clients due to his stubborness.   Undecided

Matt,

I hope your not setting up to win the bet on a technicality.. If the investors don't get at least 90 percent of their money back and it was agreed by the investors and Pirate, (including all interest owed up to the minute of the deal, (if there is one)) then he is in default and is fraudulent.. Now, if Pirate says, i ill give you guys 50 percent as long as you take my deal. I would consider that being held hostage and he is in default.. The way its written, if Pirate doesn't pay at last 90 percent back and its agreed upon by the lenders, then Matt would win.. Anything less, then the bettors would win..Plain and simple..

AR

90% would be a loss as well, the bet was that pirate would repay 100% and nothing less.

Well considering the bet doesn't have an arbiter, its a sucky bet anyway.
242  Other / Off-topic / Re: Matthew is renigging on his bet. He doesn't recognize Pirate's debt to Goat. on: August 31, 2012, 05:21:52 AM
Pirate owes the investors.  If he pays the investors of the PPTs whose operators do give him the information he asked for, then who do you hold responsible for him not paying the rest?

Personally, I don't think pirate can pay out 100% of investors because I believe that there will be some investors who won't lodge a claim if it requires revealing real life information about themselves.

It will be interesting to see what pirate has to say after the midnight Friday deadline passed.  When Goat asked him on IRC for the contact details for his lawyer, he implied that information would be made available on Friday.

Quote
<Chaang-Noi> pirate, can you make your lawyers phone number public? i want to have somethings confirmed.
<reeses> that might be the smart move, because you can say things now that fuck you into piercing your corp. shield
<pirateat40> Chaang-Noi, those details will be available on Friday and all communication will be by certified mail.

I'm curious about what he means by that last part and whether his lawyers will not be communicating with anyone by phone or email.

If nothing else, I'm sure if it goes legal, the first set of documents would be sent certified/registered, with additional correspondence between counsel done via other methods.

how can he block them?

i don't see how he can stop lenders from telling pirate their own account info.

oh good, now I can tell pirate about my bitcoin max account that had 40k coins in it.  I even have a screen shot to prove it.  Roll Eyes

WARNING: If you give pirateat40 a signed reciept for passthru bonds, you're fucking yourself over.

He will give a quote less than what you are owed. Stick with your passthru operator for a maximum settlement.

Are the PPT operators willing to accept full legal responsibility for obtaining a "maximum settlement", up to and including suing pirate on behalf of their investors?  If they're going to claim to represent the interests of their investors, then they need to be willing to back that up and gain authority to negotiate a settlement on behalf of their investors.  If they aren't willing to accept that legal responsibility, they may well find themselves in a very tenuous position if they obstruct pirate's attempts to negotiate with the people to whom the money is actually owed.

Chaang-Noi plans on suing if necessary.

And charge the legal expense to the fund?  International lawsuits aren't cheap.

So if Pirate does not pay Goat out according to the agreement but pays everyone else, you will lose your bet with Matthew.

So cancel your escrows and void your bets. He is not playing fair.

Trying to set a new record for most threads started in a day?
246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are micro-transaction such a problem? on: August 31, 2012, 04:31:38 AM
I wonder if it's really that bad. In a way, won't they actually help this market discover the true price of a transaction?

I don't think that micro txs are the real issue (the pricing of tx's using tx size and coin age stops spamming without fees) but instead the handling of a large # of txs and in some ways we can thank SD for giving the system a bit of stress as it is now obvious that further development (much of which is already underway) is needed in order for the system to scale up (which will be necessary if it is to ever compete with the likes of a payment processors such as the current credit card ones).

Well, sendmany was a good first step.

The guy hasn't confirmed his identity. most of this makes no sense.

the people on the forum seem pretty certain of his identity, even going so far as to call previous employers.. I'd say thats enough info to send him a certified letter.

I will only have my lawyer send certified mail to other lawyers :/

LOL, now you're just making excuses.

249  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 22/459 on: August 31, 2012, 04:18:18 AM
Code:
[19:16] <@pirateat40> Total Accounts Repaid: 21/459 (subject to required information)

Since he's paying out again, it might be a good idea to start a new thread.

update: 22 now.

Since there's been no confirmations of payment, maybe 22 is the number of the BTCST accounts he bought off the original account holders at discounted rates.

Or maybe those are the accounts he paid 200% to.

What are your thoughts about Pirate if he pays back some accounts and not other. Like what if he claims he needs a list of information about people before he sends coins? Would that be scamming?

That's scamming.

"Hey, I would love to pay you back, but first you need to give me your credit card number, expiry date, and mother's maiden name."

He asked for three pieces of information:  forum/irc nick, address, balance.  Everything else is just fud.

Still what pirate is really asking for is illegal and scamming.   :/    This wont end well.

Please tell me how its illegal for him to ask for that.

I don't know about illegal, but it's unethical. His obligations are to the pass-through operators. Not the individual customers of those operators.

My lawyer said don't do it. And my lawyer want to talk to Pirates. Pirate wont give that info up Sad

Then send him a certified letter.  Its not like he wasn't dox'd all over the forums.

Based on what?
There is no other reason. It would be easier for Pirate to pay the operators directly if he wanted to pay a full amount.

Well, based on comments by certain ppt bond operators, the bonds could be redeemed for potentially less than what they're due, even with pirate paying 100%.

255  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 22/459 on: August 31, 2012, 01:24:25 AM

Yes, but adding "(subject to required information)" as a qualifier doesn't make any sense; either he's paid back 22 accounts or he hasn't. If he's saying that there might be some accounts that won't be paid if they don't cooperate, he should spell it out.

I think he did already.. just some people don't consider it possible to comply.

Oh that's cute  Cheesy

A pass-through operator posting pirates self-published info.

Yeah, because it wasn't witnessed by 256 other people or anything.  Roll Eyes

It's pirate's credibility which is in question here not inau's.

My post mainly addresses the irony of that happening.

Here's the thing, as long as the number keeps going up, its going to hit someone eventually that will post to the forums.  So as long as the number is increasing fairly regularly, let's just sit tight.

Any new quotes from irc?

Evidently there's a new script and it says 22 accounts have been paid out.
