581  Economy / Lending / Re: When does a Ponzi scheme end? on: August 02, 2012, 07:47:59 AM
Let's look at a 7% per week, 3,300% per year scheme, i.e. one with an extremely high advertised yield.

Its debt grows at an exponential rate, but the debt plays only an indirect role here. What really matters to the Ponzi scheme operator is the heap of money he is amassing.

Let's not. At this point, anyone who doesn't understand how a Ponzi works hasn't been paying attention for the past 16 pages.

Next, the critical flaw: full assumption that Pirate is running a Ponzi, with zero flexibility in that assessment whatsoever. It is 100% impossible to be 100% certain of a Ponzi until it either blows up or is proven to not be one. Since neither of those events have occurred yet, your arguments have been made ad infinitum and won't change anything.

It's time for the naysayers to keep the Ponzi potential in mind and start exploring other explanations, like those offered dozens of times. Try some positivity and expand your mind a bit; it does wonders.

You're wasting your time/bits.  They really are 100% certain in their minds even though there is no publicly available certain proof.

If you're worried about rewarding current miners, then why aren't you suggesting CPPSRB?

Somebody should link to "Association Fallacy" on Wikipedia. It would be a welcome change to all those "Ponzi" links (like we've never heard about it before).

585  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: August 01, 2012, 10:39:19 AM
My point with my post was not primarily to have Pirate identity outed. It was more that the impression from this thread that an in-group of people was playing with an out-group of people was beginning to annoy me - with small hints and the giving out of small dots requiring each and everyone to spend time connecting all the dots (i.e. who is pirate on this picture). It is this kind of behaviour that I don't find particularly professional.

Now imagine a group of people claiming that anyone that did meet pirate will somehow be responsible for pirate's actions, simply because the  person(s) met him and now you can understand why some people are intentionally vague as to their meeting of pirate.  They don't want to deal with the BS.

Wow, you are taking those idiots seriously? Just let me state that in no way would make you responsible for any of Pirate his actions. Was that actually unclear for anyone? People that state such things have completely lost any connection to the actual world.

I get that, the important bit is the "They don't want to deal with the BS."  Regardless if its even remotely accurate or not, people continue to spew tons of crap, completely unrestrained.
586  Economy / Lending / Re: Bryan Micon's List of BTC Ponzi Schemes that should not be listed as "Lending" on: August 01, 2012, 10:08:08 AM
Hey assmunch, if you had bothered to actually do more than about 2 seconds of research, you would have found the posts about my mining farm, pictures and all.  You aren't the first troll to attempt to call me a ponzi. I've bought tons of gpus, bfl and other gear.  I hadn't replied until now, because mainly, you're a waste of my time.

588  Economy / Securities / Re: Imsaguy's PPT (7% starting whenever Pirate gets around to changing things.) on: August 01, 2012, 01:44:50 AM
If you want in now, I can handle you.  You just won't have access to the subaccount website until midmonth when Pirate makes it available.  PM for a deposit address.
589  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] BFL Singles on: August 01, 2012, 12:07:56 AM
Hiya,

Have BFL singles that you would like to sell?  Have a place in line for BFL singles and tired of waiting?  Have your receipt handy and send me a pm.  We'll work out an equitable deal.

That said, all of pirate's detractors here on the forums are on a witch hunt. If I confirm or deny ANYTHING, they will twist what I say to fit their point of view and keep the flame war going. So, I am in the unenviable position of "damned if I do, damned if I don't". The hostile environment created here is not conducive to sharing information in a way that is either helpful or respectful.

Hello Folks, Had some serious issues with my machine after being in Vegas last week. Payouts are going out shortly.  I'll process all withdrawal requests thereafter.

Oh really? http://www.talentzoo.com/digital-pivot/blog_news.php?articleID=6221

Quote
The argument for punishment is that many of these games take years to master to the point where the online character begins to effectively navigate through the virtual world. The players invest their time, effort, and money into building their online personages, so many courts are looking at the thefts in much the same way they would look at the theft of any other valuable possession. In 2008, a group of boys in the Netherlands attacked and threatened a RuneScape player, so that he would turn over a chain and amulet. The Dutch court set a precedent in the case, stating that virtual goods are the same as real goods, and the boys were convicted of theft.

In general, courts globally seem to be treating virtual crime just as they would any real-world crime: If a person is found guilty of stealing, killing, ruining, or otherwise destroying an online-gaming experience for a person or group of persons, the penalties enacted will be similar to punishment of real-world crime, with noted exceptions. For example, killing an avatar will not be met with a life sentence in prison. However, the monetary loss sustained by the player will be comparable to real-world money loss, and criminals will end up with fines, probation, or even jail.

The lesson here: If you can't to the time, then don't commit cyber-crime.

Now you need to quote the US Case Law.

It doesn't fit in my thinking at all. So the screenshot is either fake, or taken by someone who has actually dealt with Chen Jianhai.

Occam's Razor says that

Anyone using that as a postulate in a theorem clearly doesn't actually 'get' Occam's Razor.
594  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Look at a pirate, eye to eye if you dare. on: July 29, 2012, 09:05:20 PM
Looks mostly the same as it did when I first invested many months ago.  Now the interest rates are lower, payouts are less often, and it's still a great return.  Nobody expects this to last forever and pirateat40 has demonstrated several times he will adjust his interest rate down as his profit margins are squeezed by competition.  I have had several private conversations with pirate and I am fairly confident of at least two legitimate revenue streams he has, and I suspect two others.  None are illegal as far as I know, and despite weeks of screaming, nobody has been able to provide one scrap of evidence to the contrary.  I will not provide more information about what I believe he is doing other than the obvious (gpumax) because competition will reduce his profits and thus my payouts.

I guess that means you've been paid off Roll Eyes
595  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER - Coinbuck - BTCLOT.com on: July 29, 2012, 08:58:17 PM
Actually, with a proper setup, it actually is near instant.  Perhaps you should hire a better tech?

He is working off hours during weekend. Normally our setups take up to 1 hour. Also the datacenter we are working with doesn't provide much support in weekends.

But thanks for the tip that is something that I can work on, but with the prices we provide our budget is tight.

If you're using Hyper-V, you can make a generic vhd that you sysprep and when its time for a new machine, you just copy the vhd and run it.

Do you think setup a server is instant ? Our tech was working way before you open a ticket.

P.S. It is not my mission to please every idiot on the planet. Just saying as it is whether you like it or not.

LOL. Just saying it is as it is?  Where's your documented proof its a ponzi again?  Oh right, a couple of hunches.  Oops, wrong V-.

Just because I'm affiliated with a PPT doesn't mean I know for certain Pirate is or isn't legit.  All it means is I got in before everyone else and have had access to rates that people that got in later didn't have access to.  Your logic skills sux0rz.

LOL did imsaguy just admit he was being paid extra, and had no knowledge of BS&T legitimacy? Do any of you remember just who was extremely intent on defending BS&T in the flamewar?

This thread is becoming priceless.

No turd, its because I had enough to qualify for the 7% and many other people don't have anythat many btc.

Yep, rehearse your little speech for the cops. Guilty or not, I do not know. But in the list of defendants on this, yes, most certainly.

I like how you skipped over the first bit about STFU and verifying what he looks like yourself.  Instead its easier for you to keep talking.

Do not play "idiots" with us. Say that you have met that guy with moniker pirateat40 and are satisfied that he was present here and that that you are satisfied that he is indeed the same person who runs this ponzi and that as supposedly "respected community member with a good reputation" vouch for him etc... Or say that you have not.

OR how about you get off your lazy ass and do it your damn self! Smiley

Lets make a list with who is on the payroll of pirate or has any personal interest in any of his operations:
- Chaang Noi (Goat) ช้างน้อย (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- BurtW (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- PatrickHarnett (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- dollartrader (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- hashking (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- imsaguy (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- ineededausername (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- bitfoo (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- pay.btc (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- gigavps (runs PiratePassThrough Bond or is affiliated with one)
- ...
who else??

Good start. It seems like automatic scammer tag list the moment the ponzi implodes as well as list of scammers for all the criminal reports that will be lodged eventually when this indeed blows over as many think it will.

Now a little exercise for all the readers. See the posting history of individuals mentioned above. See their mission  here for yourself.
